So I’ve been here once before, I didn’t really enjoy it last time and left a review then I had a message to say under new management so I thought great location I’ll try again. Firstly the grounds are looking way better! My food was excellent, I had soup of the day starter which was so tasty defo have again, fish n chips main lovley really well presented my son said the redmires burger was the best he’s ever had!! And he never says that to anything new. Unfortunately I ordered a side salad it was brown ish lettuce with some little tomatoes in am sure it doesn’t usually look like that, well I hope not , my daughters pie was rock hard and burnt which happens that’s fine it’s a busy pub the staff was straight on it apologised and didn’t charge her for it and offered another , I would definitely come again and again staff are amazing food was great just some little mishaps ❤️

I don’t usually pub at 1pm but we were with a walk group. Nice slightly smoky atmosphere (open fire) and warm, popular, relaxed. I had a lovely no beef burger, my partner nachos, a reasonable bill £20. Another guest praised the scampi. Sometimes portions are over powering , these just right & great chips. Varied menu and good drinks choice.

Found the place really dirty and in desperate need of a good clean and a makeover. If it wasn't for the fact we had been recommended this place, we wouldn't have stayed based on first impressions. Waited well over an hour for food. If we had been told this on arrival, we wouldn't have waited as we had other things planned for the day. Once the food arrived, i can't particularly say it was worth the wait. The gammon was sooooooo salty, the chips tasted like they had been overcooked in old oil and the plate was swimming in grease. It was really cold where we had been seated and because of this the food went cold really quickly. The staff were really polite though and the view from the garden area is beautiful. We wouldn't return though.

Went to get a coffe yesterday. As I walked in I noticed the place looking not clean, needed bathroom, went in and I was absolutely shocked at the uncleanness. Both the women's toilets were blocked full of..one can guess what, tried to pull flush, didn't work. Didn't even use the toilet as i would have had to clean the seat first! As I was exiting a woman with a child was entering,I mentioned the state of the toilet and for sure she also didn't use as I noticed her exiting few seconds later. I mentioned this to some guy who was behind the bar and he said reg the state of the toilets...yes I know, was shocked by his total disregard attitude, the excuse being that he had just taken over the place. Surely the first thing to be cleaned B4 a service and during is the toilets. I did not stay for a coffe as he was very rude. I have been on a few occasions quite some time ago and never expected this kind of uncleanness. Definitely won't be going back.

Have always loved this pub and hope to see it flourish. Food was good but the baby change/disabled toilet had no heating so was freezing. The ladies toilet was well heated in comparison which seemed an odd priority.

It was really busy again which is always a great sign. A pub with warm fires, good beers and decent food at very reasonable prices. Beef Sunday roast was excellent today. Loads of really good quality beef. The banoffee cheese cake wasn’t quite as good but still very nice. The base just blended in to the filling a bit and it just wasn’t quite right. Staff are absolutely superb and Grace gave us a warm welcome and hospitality today as usual. Prices are reasonable for good solid food. Dogs, warm fires, decent beer, solid food, good prices, great staff. Pretty much what a semi rural pub should be. Would definitely recommend it’s lovely.

Overall a lovely atmosphere and great service as always. An area that could be improved is the vegan offering. I appreciate I am in the minority but 2 of the vegan options had sold out... I think that is a sign that they are growing in popularity maybe a menu consideration for the future. I personally prefer meals that are bean/lentil/mushroom and veg based rather than 'fake meats' and the non-veggies in my famiy always have some so maybe look at doing these as sides and/or mains to appeal to a wider audience. Thank you for a lovely evening.

Fantastic countryside pub, easily accessible from the 51 bus. Cosy fires for the winter, and stunning views across the Rivelin Valley from the beer garden. New-ish team, who are clearly working really hard to make a great success of this place.

Hate to leave this bad review but today cannot be ignored. My sister organised for a large group of us to eat here, and having visited before, we thought we could rely on good service and lovely staff. Having pre booked earlier in the week, the food started coming quite quickly which was great. Sadly, as there was a few of us, some members of the group had finished their meals before others had even started theirs. Not the best but we understand there was a lot of us. The food was tasty though and we really enjoyed it. We then ordered puddings - these were mainly good, however the biscoff waffles were completely inedible - you couldn’t even get a knife through them. It then came to the bill. We all queued to pay for what food we had eaten, and it got to the last few members of the group and the waitress said ‘there’s £137 still left to pay’ - impossible, as there was only two meals left to pay. After a lot of arguing with this waitress and another girl who popped out of nowhere (saying she was a manger), it was realised that meals had been added onto our bill, despite the fact they weren’t extra - we just asked for them because they hadn’t arrived yet. Mistakes happen, and we’d have been absolutely fine if they said ‘I’m really sorry, we messed up’. But the girls didn’t admit to their mistakes and just argued with us. The manager said ‘well these are on the tab and the meals still need to be paid for’. She added no real value to the conversation and to be honest was absolutely no use. The waitress was much more professional and understanding. I asked to see the latest receipts of what we had just paid, and then they finally realised that the tab hadn’t updated too. The manager would not admit to her mistakes and wouldn’t apologise - despite the fact they were essentially scamming us out of a lot of money!! They also didn’t apologise, and clearly just didn’t want to admit their mistakes. No doubt they also won’t admit to their mistake if there’s a response to this review. Shoddy customer service, particularly from the manager, and it’s left a really bad taste in our mouths. Will never return.

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience here! The food, service, atmosphere was lovely. We booked for 8 people including a child and we were placed in a comfy seating area next to a real fireplace (very accessible to our older family members near a disabled bathroom). We were kept warm the whole time. The drinks were served immediately while the food was served within about 20 mins. Our daughter played outside in the kids play area which we were so thankful for! A 3 year old can be tricky in restaurants without anything to play with. The food was well priced and incredibly tasty, I suggest the fish and chips! The only thing that wasn’t the best were the women’s toilets, there was water everywhere when we visited. Nevertheless, we will be coming here again, thank you!

We had a lovely evening with friends here on a busy sunny Friday evening. The food was great, staff were friendly and all in all a great atmosphere. Service was slow and food was about a 45 minute wait, but we were well warned and had good company. Having a park to keep the kids entertained was brilliant- though food can only be ordered to tables with table numbers (therefore not the ones surrounding the playground area). There are some outdoor tables that overlook the park but none close enough to run after younger kids if they have a tendency to sprint. (The park isn’t enclosed and there is access to the main road through the car park, or on the other side there’s access to the valley). The food when it arrived was great! Staff were friendly. The place was nice and clean.

The staff were amazing, very attentive (including in-meal courtesy checks), and are clearly happy to be working in this establishment. The prices of food, and at the bar are reasonable (particularly the £9.50 lunch menu), and are comparable (if not slightly below the local competition). There is a huge assortment of lager, amd hand-pulled/ draught ales. Furthemore there is a very large selection of non-alcoholic beers, ciders and spirits (alongside some premium soft drinks). Parking is wholly adequate, seating is available inside and outside, and the views from the outdoor seating areas are absolutely stunning (day and night). Later overheard the member of staff who denied us food mention how she need to relax with a drink and saw them sitting around drinking moments later so appeared they just couldn't be bothered. Came here with my family for a drink and to keep the little one entertained however on arrival we saw some kids around 12,6 and 7 throwing woodchips on the slide to the point you couldn't slide down it properly, climbing and hanging on the tops of the smaller slide making it unusable for the others (not the staffs fault but thought I would mention it.) We also went to get a ice cream, asked for a couple of different ice lollys until they finally had one, you'd think they'd tell you before hand but nothing. Went into the bathroom also and that was dirty (now this is for the women's bathroom bare in mind) but none of the toilets flush leaving a fowel smell of fermenting pee and the toilet roll was completely used up and on the floor. The taps we're unusable, one of the taps didn't work for seemingly no reason and one of the caps came off and didn't screw back on, there was soap all over the sink and the floor was dirty.

Since being taken over it has become quite run down, the toilet are particularly disgusting - womens toilets had only 1 of 4 taps working the rest were broken, since we're filthy, none of them flushed, horrible festival type smell and to top it off, a lovely amount of flies. Inside is in desperate need of a lick of paint, carpet is very worn and it seemed very dark even on a glorious summer afternoon. Staff seemed a bit nervous when serving. Outside feral kids were running about screaming, literally screaming, running inbetween tables, rubbish under tables, older children throwing woodchips all over and down the slides, running up and blocking the slides so none of the younger children could go on anything. For some reason the lawn was being mowed right next to the playground so bad times for any hay-fever sufferers and anyone sitting near it as the grass was flying everywhere. I used to come here quite a lot but can't say I'd come back any time soon given how it was today.

We decided to visit here after seeing it was under new management on Facebook to which Me and my family had a great experience. The food was cooked perfectly and presented really well. They were very busy and the food was still brought to us In a good time. We sat out on the back were there was a playground for my 4yr old daughter to play on while we took in some of the amazing views. A final praise for the staff who were very friendly and couldn't be more welcoming. I will be revisiting very soon 👍

First time we have visited since it has reopened. The children had a lovely afternoon playing on the park area, making friends with other children there. We enjoyed lunch on the terrace as it was such a lovely day. The cauliflower wings and chicken burger were my favourite. The grass was being cut and other areas of maintenance were ongoing but this did not distract from a delightful time. We will be back soon.

Good local pub, with sports theme and large projection TV towards back. Serves food, burgers, wraps, chips etc. Food menu has recently changed, think there is a new caterer. The menu seems to have less variety than previously, with less vegan and vegetarian options. Quiet place for lunch, believe it is a favourite evening place of locals and student population of Crookes.
