Lovely food and service, their real ale are one of the best

Local village pub Immediate impression was not great as no disabled parking spaces near entrance. This continued inside with small doors to enter bar and dining area. Discovered there is no accessible toilet either; cubicle poor as lock broken and toilet paper dispenser damaged. Order at bar which is dog friendly. Not busy Thurs lunchtime time Limited menu but food and drinks good. Waitress friendly. Food only served 1pm to 7pm. Waitress had to ask if chef was cooking at 5 to 1. Not a great choice of seating.

Attended a small get together there. A buffet was put on it was very good. The staff were lovely, the pub itself was pleasant. Will be trying it for a sit down meal in the not too distant future.

Excellent Sunday lunch - selection of meats with all the trimmings - friendly and efficient service - good value for money - first-class pint of Boltmaker, a traditional bitter from Timothy Taylor’s Brewery.

I’ve passed the pub quite a few times but have not been in since I was a kid and with my parents. Went in the other day for a few drinks as well as some games of pool. Drinks were decent and facilities quite clean, pool table is great and although there was a party of around 80 next door, staff still accommodated us fairly and with a smile. Will pop in whenever I’m in that neck of the woods. I can’t comment on food as never tried but the selection the party had looked great and even had a wall of donuts

Recently dropped in for an early evening drink so was very quiet. However it looks as though it could get quite busy. Not an overly warm olde worlde country pub but an open fire was very welcome. Beer selection was limited but a few good real ales, Timothy Taylors Bolt Maker was one. Can't comment on the food as went for just one drink. I wouldn't rush to go back again but would go in for a quiet pint.

Had my son’s 18th Birthday here it was amazing. Angela is an incredible landlady - highly recommend

Staff really friendly, along with the locals. 10 of us had Sunday lunch and all went away completely full as portion sizes were very good. The food was traditional home cooked roast and was delicious. We had 5 dogs with us which was not a problem to them, the Landlord even took photos of the dogs sitting on one of the covered chairs.

Staff especially angela were very welcoming very happy this pub has turned around into an even better boozer! Can't fault it

I have come here to meet a fellow I've never actually met in person before (though I've known him 10 years or so) and having done so have also had a chat with the landlord. Really nice landlord; really nice pub too. Great atmosphere and I must come back again. (I live Staveley way). Yep this is a fantastic pub IMHO. Couldn't rate it higher. ----- Visiting on 6 January 2023, just to add that the place if anything has improved on the last time.... And this time my dog was made welcome too. Happy New Year everyone

Great Sunday lunch, well worth the trip out.

Called after a walk around Linacre Reservoirs. Very quiet for a Saturday lunchtime, only a couple of people in. We sat outside and had food and soft drinks. Fish finger sandwich and bacon and goat's cheese sandwich were lovely and proper home cooked chips were great too. Friendly service, though it may have been a long wait if the pub had been busy. Overall and pleasant enough experience.

Tracey was an excellent hostess, very freindly and accommodating. I had the ale pie and chips which was very good, home cooked and flavoursome. My wife had the homemade lasagne which was also excellent. Well worth a visit.

Got there at 7.45 bought a drink went back for another at 8.15 to be told pub shuts at 8.30. Apparently a new landlord is coming and not a moment too soon

Having checked on Google that this pub was open on a Friday lunch time, spent 30 minutes walking there, only to find that it was closed. I mean, how many minutes can it take to go onto Google in order to revise one's opening hours? As with all pubs who are too inconsiderate and selfish to care whether someone has wasted time and effort to get there, I will make a point of never using that place again. On a positive note, it necessitated a walk on to the next pub, The Peacock, which served good beer and good food, and, having just moved into the area, will become my daily local choice for lunch and a pint.

Lovely pub, in good old cutthorpe. Nice and welcoming. Serves food, welcomes dogs and good customer service. They do have a games room and cater for functions. Plenty of parking.

We've had an amazing experience today for a large party for a christening at The Three Merry Lads.. BJ , Dawn, family and the team made a huge effort to ensure all went well. They surpassed our expections.. Fantastic food, great atmosphere, warm welcoming attentive polite staff , the service was great, and by far best sunday roast in town.. we will definitley be returning... THANK YOU ALL for a fantastic day👍 xx

Nice out of town boozer outside of Chesterfield

Nice friendly pub. Not a chain. Fresh vegetables brought to the table. A vegetarian option if requested. Good portions of meat served. Order at the bar then waitress service after that. Reasonable prices. We’ve been a few times now andIts a nice normal meal, served in a nice normal place.Homemade lemon cheesecake is very nice indeed!Holmebrook valley park is within easy access and also Linacre woods reservoir for anyone wanting a walk.

Not a bad pub, friendly service, can walk in for Sunday dinner which is great if hungry and all other local places are full. Large portions but quality of the food is average and the pub is dated. Disappointing as we are here a couple of years ago and it’s not what it used to be. There are a lot of other pubs close by which I guess the place can’t keep up with. Not bad but not great.

We had been let down badly by another establishment - The Sportsman in Crosspool - so our party of 6 arrived without a booking for Sunday lunch on 27th October. The staff could not have been more accommodating or helpful, fitting us in and providing us with a splendid Sunday lunch which was also a birthday treat for an 83 year old!It was very busy but the service was very good and the atmosphere was welcoming and pleasant.Full marks for this establishment - we should have booked here in the first place!

Absolutely amazing food and a good clean beer be going again very soon

Car park is cramped, the service was poor as we had wait about 25 minutes for our order. We ended up not all eating at the same time because some were delivered as they were cooked but there was a delay on others.

Ordered small portion of salmon fish cake and indeed it was one resembled birds eyes fishcake undercooked peas and lots of fries. Friend wanted cheese onion pie which ten mins later said sold out so ended up with sausage and mash . Due to lots of choice of curry and not really on a hot humid day. Menu small otherwise overpriced for basic food

A strange smell about the place, and they looked at me as if I was mad when I asked if they served coffee at approx 10 pm on a Friday ( they were a food pub after all!!)

This is truly a lovely place to eat as the food is all freshly sourced from local farmers or suppliers. catering for all tastes Gluten Free, Vegan or just normal food. local beers avalable

Had a small gathering last night. Great atmosphere. The landlord/landlady/bar staff we’re very welcoming, accommodating and positive. Great to see the village pub with life!

Called in for a drink as usual with friends after going for a walk with the dogs..sat in the main bar area. The food looked really good so we decided to eat and we were not disappointed lovely home cooked pie for my husband freshly made lasagna for me and our friends had gammon. All hot, tasty and just what we needed after a long walk. Boys loved the beers great choice of wine..unfortunately we had to share a desert because we were so full. Will be back very soon.

Called in after a walk round linacre reservoir. Me and my friend had merry burgers, they were so very tasty. They had a lovely chargrilled flavour to them. The homemade chips were really good but my favourite by far was the onion rings!

We visited on Friday 26th April for an evening meal as a family of 4 we were also in the company of another party of 7 although we didn’t eat together. We enjoyed the home cooked food, all having a variation of pie and chips or burgers and chips. The food was wonderful and worth every penny.. reasonably priced I may add. The only down side was the family who were eating in the restaurant at the same time. One member of the party appeared to be the designated complainer and was rude to the staff and decided to move her complaint into the pub area to create a scene. Absolutely unnecessary and spoilt many evenings I’m sure. The party will probably put a detrimental review on here but I can assure any potential visitors this is definitely worth a visit. The food is amazing and the team cannot do enough to oblige

Had a second meal here yesterday with my son and some friends. The only thing that spoilt it was the language coming from a table in the conservatory. We thought they were having a family argument, but, were actually swearing at the staff. Some people have no class, and once they’d left without paying for any of the food we did comment that it wouldn’t be long before a review was on here. To be fair their modus operandi was very slick so obviously not the first time they’ve had a free meal! Anyway, onto the food.....yes there was a bit of a wait which is to be expected when a place is busy, but, the food was worth it. Absolutely nothing frozen about it. Had the home cooked Steak and Ale pie with proper pub chips! Was excellent, which was the view shared by the rest of the party when clean plates were taken away at the end of the meal. Sometimes it’s easier to complain though and hurt a local business’ reputation online! Will definitely be visiting again!

No words went for a birthday meal with family tonight a range of ages from 5 to 80 orders were taken at 7.30 4 starters prawn cocktail chicken tenders then the main meals that were ordered were pie and chips fish and chips lasagna and salmon fishcakes and three children’s meals two burgers one sausage and chips we waited 50 min before thr starters arrived we then queried where Nan and grandad‘s food was as we’d asked for them to come at the same time as the starters we were told another five minutes an hour and 20 minutes after ordering two pies arrived a further 15 minutes two fish and chips arrived and one child sausage and chips We then proceeded to wait another 10 minutes before losing the will to live and questioned where the rest of our meals were the landlord his attitude is shall we say interesting they have only been open for six weeks and I don’t think we’ll make it to 16 The reason the food was late got blamed on us which I find highly amusing as we could’ve cooked fish and chips in less than half an hour at home The food is not home-cooked as stated it’s frozen dry bland and mainly overcooked We visited the three merry lads in January and had the most amazing meal it’s safe to say we will never be returning I think we’d rather go to a kebab takeaway and attempt anything off the random menu then go to this terrible pub again positives if you haven’t seen someone in a long time and have a lot of catching up to do this is the perfect place to get a meal gives you plenty of time to chat drink loads before attempting any food positive if you like of uncooked food that’s basic what you can buy at Morrison’s or Tesco’s this is the place for you positive large car park loads of parking spaces mainly because nobody wishes to eat here Positive perfect place to go to if you’re wanting to become an anger management therapist Positive great place to diet you have to wait that long for your food you no longer want it

Called in Friday eve reasonable choice of beer and three nice meals, will go again.

I called in for an early lunch on Easter Saturday 2019 and had a smiling, friendly reception. I ate good food WITH HAND-CUT CHIPS (not the packet variety) and lovely fresh salad with my scampi. The young servers were very professional. and I had plenty of food for my appetite. The menu reads like "top-end pub-grub" rather than "fine-dining", so The Three Merry Lads at Cutthorpe represents a welcome revival of tradition at a time when many pubs are closing (or "going posh" to use an expression I understand).

Don’t get to visit chesterfield very often due to living down south but had often driven past this pub in my early days and had always said must pop in and try as looks a lovely pub well 15 years later finally got round to trying and we were not disappointed lovely and clean inside staff very friendly opted for the Sunday lunch it was tasty and plentiful my partner and myself were absolutely stuffed, I hope it’s not too long before Im back visiting chesterfield as will definitely be calling in again.

After reading the previous review I was reluctant to visit this place but thought we should see for ourselves what it was like. Walking in to a clean, well decorated large lounge with the most inviting roaring log fire I was pleasantly surprised . The man behind the bar was pleasant as was the lady who later appeared and served our food. We only had sandwiches but the bread was soft and fresh , the salad and coleslaw was also nice and fresh and the homemade chips were perfect. The price we paid for the food was exceptionally good value for money and I could not fault any aspect of our visit. It is a shame that when one person has a bad experience with a place that future clients are discouraged, as I was, but I am very glad that we decided to lunch here and would recommend it to others.

What a fantastic family pub 😊 lovely food, lovely people and such a refreshing change! First time we've been and got made so welcome by the staff and the regulars. We all came out smiling and will DEFINITELY be going back! 😍 x

I went to this pub recently after the new management and have visited this pub for some 10+ years. On my first visit I was a gentlemen and acted in a respectful manner however this wasn't reflected. The new landlady insulted me. I had never spoke to her before so dismissed it. I ordered another drink and was insulted again. She insulted me a total of three times before I left. What a rude disgusting way to treat customers. Horrible stuck up lady. Disgusted and offended. don't go
