Such a lovely cosy pub with a coal/log fire and dog friendly. The food and drinks were very good value. I had an amazingly simple yet delicious burger for £9. My friend had a fish and chips from the light bites menu which was £6 and it did not disappoint. They have darts, board games and a pool table. I will be back! Lovely chatty landlady.

Absolutely love place. My niece as just had her birthday party here. Wow what a fantastic venue. The landlady is brilliant. Cannot recommend this place enough.

Such a warm friendly welcome.. will always support a proper British pub with well kept ale and proper food. Don't complain these establishments are disappearing if you are not regularly supporting them🤷‍♂️

Popped in for a drink Thursday evening with family and I am so pleased we did, the landlady and other customers made us feel very welcome, the pub is comfortable and inviting, we will definitely return.

Called in for a pint with the family had a lovely warm welcome and chat whilst ordering drinks. Very friendly and great atmosphere, a proper pub very relaxed Def recommend to friends

An interesting experience was had at the Merry Lads. We decided to pop in on the off chance, having never been here before, and we were not disappointed. The pub was split into two areas, one to the left near the bar for patrons with dogs 🐕 it had seating and dining and led out to the outside area. There is also an additional separate area that has a pool table. Drinks prices were normal food prices were £10 for two main meals or £12 for one. The quality of the food was 10/10. We had gammon and beer-battered fish and chips. The portion sizes were decent; the chips were large-cut non-greasy and crispy. The gammon was lean all the way through. The music volume was low enough to converse over and of contemporary style.

Called in with friends for drinks and food and we were all pleasantly surprised. The food was lovely and very reasonably priced. Service was excellent with really friendly staff. Will definitely be back.

Local village pub Immediate impression was not great as no disabled parking spaces near entrance. This continued inside with small doors to enter bar and dining area. Discovered there is no accessible toilet either; cubicle poor as lock broken and toilet paper dispenser damaged. Order at bar which is dog friendly. Not busy Thurs lunchtime time Limited menu but food and drinks good. Waitress friendly. Food only served 1pm to 7pm. Waitress had to ask if chef was cooking at 5 to 1. Not a great choice of seating.

Landlady was very pleasant..we both had a lovely breakfast and nice pot of tea which was refilled..thankyou see you again soon.

My recent visit to the Three Merry Lads in Cutthorpe left much to be desired. While the new landlady was notably pleasant, radiating warmth and hospitality, the overall experience fell short of expectations. The service was painfully slow, dragging out an already exhausting day, and the atmosphere was marred by the boisterous conversations of locals, who seemed oblivious to their use of vulgar language. Despite the potential for improvement, particularly with the welcoming demeanor of the landlady, fundamental issues such as slow service and disruptive patron behavior detracted significantly from what could have been an enjoyable dining experience.

Attended a small get together there. A buffet was put on it was very good. The staff were lovely, the pub itself was pleasant. Will be trying it for a sit down meal in the not too distant future.

Went for sunday lunch and we were more than happy, good service from friendly staff. Food was really enjoyable. plenty of everything so much so we could only share a pudding. Only niggle, dining room was a bit chilly, put another layer on when you go 🤣

Excellent Sunday lunch - selection of meats with all the trimmings - friendly and efficient service - good value for money - first-class pint of Boltmaker, a traditional bitter from Timothy Taylor’s Brewery.

I’ve passed the pub quite a few times but have not been in since I was a kid and with my parents. Went in the other day for a few drinks as well as some games of pool. Drinks were decent and facilities quite clean, pool table is great and although there was a party of around 80 next door, staff still accommodated us fairly and with a smile. Will pop in whenever I’m in that neck of the woods. I can’t comment on food as never tried but the selection the party had looked great and even had a wall of donuts

Recently dropped in for an early evening drink so was very quiet. However it looks as though it could get quite busy. Not an overly warm olde worlde country pub but an open fire was very welcome. Beer selection was limited but a few good real ales, Timothy Taylors Bolt Maker was one. Can't comment on the food as went for just one drink. I wouldn't rush to go back again but would go in for a quiet pint.

Had my son’s 18th Birthday here it was amazing. Angela is an incredible landlady - highly recommend

Staff really friendly, along with the locals. 10 of us had Sunday lunch and all went away completely full as portion sizes were very good. The food was traditional home cooked roast and was delicious. We had 5 dogs with us which was not a problem to them, the Landlord even took photos of the dogs sitting on one of the covered chairs.

New landlady very friendly staff good choses of beer,larger and ciders and now doing Sunday lunch’s again which is excellent quality

The meal was beautiful, coked nice, home cooked food and plenty of it. The staff and chef were all very friendly. Will definitely be going back

We ventured over to this pub on the recommendation of some locals after doing the walk down Wyoming nature reserve . We placed our order for a veggie burger and were told 15mins to wait which seemed reasonable . However the wait seemed to be more like an hour and 15 minutes . The owner / manager / staff , not sure who he was offered us a free drink as it was three times the wait we were told. When finaly the meal came the man said he was going to reimburse us for the meal which we said was not necessary however he insisted it was fine. The burger was incredibly tasty albeit difficult to eat as it was falling apart but we felt it was most kind of the man to offer us a free soft drink and the meal complimentary in lieu of the extremely long wait which did make our return journey very late. DEFINATELY cannot fault the hospitality or food so rating based on both of these and how they put right the slow service which was as a result of them being so busy and it being a bank holiday . Thank you for the unexpected kindness and rare hospitality and wrong being put right in such a friendly and hospitable manner.

Proper boozer and good pub grub. Welcoming staff and plenty of parking. Visited with my family including two young children.

We stopped in on our way to our holiday cottage They were very welcoming The food was delicious and more than ample portions. The kids enjoyed their dinners again ample size portions Very reasonable pricing. Lovely experience we intend to make a few more trips whilst we are here

Visited today opening time 12 midday doors not open ,roughly 25 minutes later doors opened and welcomed me in i asked if I needed to book ,no come in ,owner I presume went into the ladies with cleaning bottle ,we proceeded to the bar where a young lady was in slippers and vaping ,got up and served our drinks ,which were out of a fridge not switched on ,and was told the pump wasn't working not beer but pop ,then had to wait for ice as none ready whilst I presume owner was lighting the fire ,to be then told only Sunday menu was available 2 choice of meats ,and not serving anything else,£10 for 5 cans of Pepsi max,with ice . We then booked at the peacock Inn up the road and well what a service they provide.

I have come here to meet a fellow I've never actually met in person before (though I've known him 10 years or so) and having done so have also had a chat with the landlord. Really nice landlord; really nice pub too. Great atmosphere and I must come back again. (I live Staveley way). Yep this is a fantastic pub IMHO. Couldn't rate it higher. ----- Visiting on 6 January 2023, just to add that the place if anything has improved on the last time.... And this time my dog was made welcome too. Happy New Year everyone

The owners couldn’t have done more to attend to our needs, getting us an umbrella to sit out, inviting us in with the dogs and so on. It had a local feel but without feeling unwelcome. Thanks to them for being so lovely.

Came across this quaint pub/restaurant today and called for Sunday lunch. All homemade food, lovely hot and varied meats and veg. Beef ,pork or turkey but you can have all 3 if you want. Lovely puds. Tracey, the landlady,,is so friendly and nothing too much trouble We have found a little treasure in a charming Chesterfield village. Will definitely be back with friends

Great Sunday lunch, well worth the trip out.

Called after a walk around Linacre Reservoirs. Very quiet for a Saturday lunchtime, only a couple of people in. We sat outside and had food and soft drinks. Fish finger sandwich and bacon and goat's cheese sandwich were lovely and proper home cooked chips were great too. Friendly service, though it may have been a long wait if the pub had been busy. Overall and pleasant enough experience.

Tracey was an excellent hostess, very freindly and accommodating. I had the ale pie and chips which was very good, home cooked and flavoursome. My wife had the homemade lasagne which was also excellent. Well worth a visit.

Got there at 7.45 bought a drink went back for another at 8.15 to be told pub shuts at 8.30. Apparently a new landlord is coming and not a moment too soon

Having checked on Google that this pub was open on a Friday lunch time, spent 30 minutes walking there, only to find that it was closed. I mean, how many minutes can it take to go onto Google in order to revise one's opening hours? As with all pubs who are too inconsiderate and selfish to care whether someone has wasted time and effort to get there, I will make a point of never using that place again. On a positive note, it necessitated a walk on to the next pub, The Peacock, which served good beer and good food, and, having just moved into the area, will become my daily local choice for lunch and a pint.

Lovely pub, in good old cutthorpe. Nice and welcoming. Serves food, welcomes dogs and good customer service. They do have a games room and cater for functions. Plenty of parking.

We've had an amazing experience today for a large party for a christening at The Three Merry Lads.. BJ , Dawn, family and the team made a huge effort to ensure all went well. They surpassed our expections.. Fantastic food, great atmosphere, warm welcoming attentive polite staff , the service was great, and by far best sunday roast in town.. we will definitley be returning... THANK YOU ALL for a fantastic day👍 xx

Nice out of town boozer outside of Chesterfield

Nice friendly pub. Not a chain. Fresh vegetables brought to the table. A vegetarian option if requested. Good portions of meat served. Order at the bar then waitress service after that. Reasonable prices. We’ve been a few times now and Its a nice normal meal, served in a nice normal place. Homemade lemon cheesecake is very nice indeed! Holmebrook valley park is within easy access and also Linacre woods reservoir for anyone wanting a walk.

Not a bad pub, friendly service, can walk in for Sunday dinner which is great if hungry and all other local places are full. Large portions but quality of the food is average and the pub is dated. Disappointing as we are here a couple of years ago and it’s not what it used to be. There are a lot of other pubs close by which I guess the place can’t keep up with. Not bad but not great.

We had been let down badly by another establishment - The Sportsman in Crosspool - so our party of 6 arrived without a booking for Sunday lunch on 27th October. The staff could not have been more accommodating or helpful, fitting us in and providing us with a splendid Sunday lunch which was also a birthday treat for an 83 year old!It was very busy but the service was very good and the atmosphere was welcoming and pleasant.Full marks for this establishment - we should have booked here in the first place!

Absolutely amazing food and a good clean beer be going again very soon

Car park is cramped, the service was poor as we had wait about 25 minutes for our order. We ended up not all eating at the same time because some were delivered as they were cooked but there was a delay on others.

Ordered small portion of salmon fish cake and indeed it was one resembled birds eyes fishcake undercooked peas and lots of fries. Friend wanted cheese onion pie which ten mins later said sold out so ended up with sausage and mash . Due to lots of choice of curry and not really on a hot humid day. Menu small otherwise overpriced for basic food

A strange smell about the place, and they looked at me as if I was mad when I asked if they served coffee at approx 10 pm on a Friday ( they were a food pub after all!!)

This is truly a lovely place to eat as the food is all freshly sourced from local farmers or suppliers. catering for all tastes Gluten Free, Vegan or just normal food. local beers avalable

Called in for a drink as usual with friends after going for a walk with the dogs..sat in the main bar area. The food looked really good so we decided to eat and we were not disappointed lovely home cooked pie for my husband freshly made lasagna for me and our friends had gammon. All hot, tasty and just what we needed after a long walk. Boys loved the beers great choice of wine..unfortunately we had to share a desert because we were so full. Will be back very soon.

Had a second meal here yesterday with my son and some friends. The only thing that spoilt it was the language coming from a table in the conservatory. We thought they were having a family argument, but, were actually swearing at the staff. Some people have no class, and once they’d left without paying for any of the food we did comment that it wouldn’t be long before a review was on here. To be fair their modus operandi was very slick so obviously not the first time they’ve had a free meal! Anyway, onto the food.....yes there was a bit of a wait which is to be expected when a place is busy, but, the food was worth it. Absolutely nothing frozen about it. Had the home cooked Steak and Ale pie with proper pub chips! Was excellent, which was the view shared by the rest of the party when clean plates were taken away at the end of the meal. Sometimes it’s easier to complain though and hurt a local business’ reputation online! Will definitely be visiting again!
