Great pub, with history. Lovely staff, great pub grub (battered halloumi and chips), and beautifully kept beer. What's not to like! 😁👍

Saturday 30th November 2024 This real ale pub in Lancaster is an absolute gem a old fashioned unspoilt pub in the centre of this beautiful city. The well looked after pub has cosy rooms where you can drink the plethora excellent hand pumped ales on offer. The Beers are mostly small local breweries. There is a CAMRA DISCOUNT here, and the Landlord is a proper real ale lover

What happened to The Three Mariners? It used to offer such great food, wine and beer. Beer still ok. Only 2 reds available for the roast beef Sunday dinner...oh and "sorry no beef" at 1pm on a Sunday. So sat with a bottle of average Malbec at £21 and booked The Corner House instead. Shame used to be an amazing little pub, great service and good choice of food. Not any more!

This is a hidden gem of a pub in the heart of Lancaster, just a stones throw from the river and round the corner from the bus station. Yet, it's if the beaten track so your would know it's there! Cosy, charming atmosphere with an amazing selection of drinks and real ales, and they also have regular live music. The food is excellent; my partner and I had the lunch menu sandwiches which were delicious. This is one of our regular pubs to visit when we're are in Lancaster and I would highly recommend it, especially if your are visiting the city the time.

Such a disappointment, please avoid and save your money. We arrived with high hopes following the favourable reviews on here but this place did not deliver. The burgers were very dry and over-cooked. Really salty gammon steak and kids nuggets were literally just nuggets and chips, no attempt to incorporate vegetables at all so be warned. I should have taken pics but we just wanted to finish and leave quickly to get away from the pipe smoke. When ordering, I asked if the side of coleslaw could be swapped for a bit of cucumber on my son's order as he doesn't like mayonnaise but was told I would have to pay for a side salad. That seemed a bit over the top and the way it was dealt with just made me uncomfortable so I am glad we just paid at the bar and left as soon as we could. The building might be old but it's not worth it.

Based on the previous excellent reviews we booked for Sunday lunch. We walked in to be met by quite a surly, monosyllabic barmaid who made no attempt to greet us. She took us to our table and did not enter into any dialogue. She continued to be gruff when ordering drinks and food and gave the impression that everything we asked for was a bother. We returned to our table where music was blaring through a speaker above us making conversation impossible. We asked for it to be turned down which she did with more "whatever" attitude. She then came to our table and slung the cutlery down down saying "there you are". By this time we had had enough and cancelled our order. She had to ring upstairs for the manager/owner to come down and arrange a refund. She managed to be polite to him but obviously does not extend this to customers. The manager took little to no interest in why we were leaving despite explaining to him our reasons. Apparently, the previous owner has left who was by all accounts very personable. This was my partner's sister's (visiting from Australia) final meal before returning, which ruined what was supposed to be a memorable last meal with us. It was certainly memorable for all the wrong reasons. We then had to find somewhere else and fortunately ended up at the Sun Hotel where we were greeted by three smiling faces and made very welcome. we experienced great service and a tasty roast. We followed this with coffee at the Music room where, again, we experienced a warm welcome and excellent customer service. We will not be returning to the Three Mariners.

Arrived on a miserable and wet summer Wednesday night with a very soggy doggy after a walk around the castle area and was greeted by the staff member at the bar with a smile and genuine, warm welcome then promptly a bowl of water for Milo which was much appreciated! Service was lovely, gentle and friendly to a point as a sole female drinking I felt quite comfortable. The few drinkers in seemed like locals and were happy to chat briefly across the table. The pub is very cosy, clean and full of character. Initially I was only after a coffee which at 9pm I appreciated wasn't available so the young lady at the bar promptly gave me some suggestions on what I could have including her favourites. Excellent service! Will be back!

This traditional style inn was a very pleasant discovery. As we were in Lancaster we opted for the Lancashire hot pot on the menu, and are so glad we did. It was the nicest one I have ever tasted, tender, flavoursome and served with equally good pickled red cabbage. It made a very filling and satisfying meal. This, like everything on the menu, was also very reasonably priced (about £12 if I remember correctly). I would expect all the food here to be similarly good. The food also arrived promptly. My only quibble is that there didn't seem to be a desert menu (though it's possible I just missed finding it). It is a characterful mid 17th century building, which seems always to have been a inn (although also extended into what was a neighbouring cottage), and built on the site of two even older inns. Inside there is interesting collection of old prints etc telling the history of Lancaster. The atmosphere was friendly, and the staff helpful and informative. The girl at the bar was happy to tell us the history of the building and explain its unusual feature of an upstairs keg 'cellar' (one of only a handful in the country), this allows the beer to flow to the taps through the force of gravity. She also entertained us with stories of the inn's many ghosts. Including the three mariners of the title. These three 18th c characters still enjoy sitting in their customary niche by the fire, watching life go by, and making the occasional friendly comment. While I wouldn't wish to stay there quite that long, I will definitely be visiting the inn again whenever I am back in Lancaster.

I have to start with the bad. We had reserved a table, however whilst at the bar a few walks in did come in. They were greated with a very rude bar lady, who stated 'I am not doing food for walk in's today' in a very unpleasant attitude. I thought it was very rude to speak to someone like that. If I hadn't ordered my drinks, I would of left and so would of the gentleman next to me. No surprise the walk in's left without ordering drinks. Even if you weren't serving food to them, a little respect goes a long way. Even a simple 'Hi, sorry just to let you know we aren't doing food for walk in's today. You are more than welcome to order a drink though'. I would like to add I did see big time gaps between tables being reserved.... Very expensive for the quality of the good and service. I Wouldn't recommend...

Atmospheric Pub with friendly attentive staff and a magnificent selection of beers and cider at the bar. Like many pubs, when asked they were unable to offer a single soft drink without any artificial sweeteners. Main courses were generous portions and tasty. Condiments were slightly confusing with the black pepper on offer out of a second matching salt pot. Sadly our meal came to a premature end as our favourite desert choice had run out and the coffee machine had also unfortunately broken. Took our parents here when they came to visit from down south. We have lived in Lancaster for a few years and had been before for drinks and loved the atmosphere. We ordered at the bar and paid, when the food arrived (after a short wait which I was impressed by) it was cold, the plate felt like it had come out of the fridge it was ice cold and the pie and vegetables were freezing. We asked the waitress (who was the only server in the entire pub doing everything) if she wouldn’t mind warming it up or just putting it all in the microwave to which she replied she couldn’t as the microwave was being used, but she took it and said she’d go try and warm it up. 5 minutes later she came back with the same plate of food and said “there you go” and walked away, by this point we also had no cutlery so asked if she didn’t mind getting us some so we could all eat. When we felt the veg and plate they were both still cold and it felt like the pie was the only thing that got warmed up but was still not piping hot. We were very confused. I was very disappointed with the quality of the food and it’s just standard practice in any restaurant that the food is served hot. If we hadn’t already paid beforehand I would have refused as the food wasn’t enjoyable. I won’t be returning for food!

When the food arrived we were a little overwhelmed at the size , not sure how you would manage one with a main as well but having said that we did manage to polish off all three excellent dishes . Had 2 glasses of white wine to accompany the food which wasn’t bad at all . Have had some house wines that could remove the enamel from your teeth !! Overall a very good experience and one I would recommend.
