Delicious tasty and lovely space!

Waited 1hr 10minutes for food, had to ask x4 times for our drinks and food. Told false information, In the end we left. Not a nice night for us. Really sad as we really liked the place.

Have been here before for dinner and the food is really good, the vibe is great and based off of that experience I would recommend this place to anyone even non-vegans like myself. However, me and a female friend went in today and noticed that one server was treating our orders differently depending on who ordered them, and when bringing orders to the table this server had a particularly negative attitude when compared to other people she was serving. The first drinks that my friend ordered came with nice coffee art on her matcha, when I ordered the same for her the drinks came out quite messy (I am no barista but it was obvious), even going up to order I felt I had done something to deserve this treatment but cannot think what it could've been, seeing as both me and my friend came in to do some revision, both of us as polite as we could be and I'd like to think we weren't disturbing anyone. This service made us feel pretty uneasy so we left earlier than planned. This is not something I ever do, let alone going out of my way to leave a negative review after the fact. If she didn't like me for whatever reason (my appearance or if I offended in some way) I wish she could've at least stayed professional or had told me what I might've done wrong. Not a nice feeling to feel unwelcome in a place that I used to really enjoy.

Excellent atmosphere and coffee

Great place to go for brunch and they also have a fantastic evening menu. Lovely atmosphere.

The Herb is my favourite café of all time. It cannot be beaten on its incredible and delicious menu, whether you are looking for sweet or savoury. It's quirky and warm and beautiful inside, and the service is always wonderful.

My friend and I ordered our meals and drinks. My friends drink was wrong - she took it back but received no apology only a sigh. My food arrived over 10 minutes before my friends as we ended up eating separately. Her food had seeds and onions on that weren't mentioned on the menu - she has food intolerance to these things. When she spoke to the waiter, she was met with no solution or offer of help. It was a very disappointing visit.

I really wanted to enjoy my experience, but the side room was filthy when we went and that was the only space available. They cleaned it when we asked, but then when I ordered drinks they ‘still’ didn't have peppermint tea which implies it was a known issue that wasn’t solved. They also didn’t add my second meal to the order even though I repeated it twice as I was worried she hadn’t paid attention to it. So I had no food when my friends’ food arrived and was left hungry, and had to wait for it to be cooked after, by which point my friends were finished. I would have been less upset if the waitress apologised or did anything to compensate the meal, but she didn’t seem to care and it made me not even want to order in the end. I still did but wish I hadn’t, because when it arrived it was bland mush. I’d recommend Simply Vegan and WhaleTail if you want consistently good customer service and food instead of this over priced place.

Fantastic food but service so so slow

Eating at the Herbarium is always a lovely experience. The place has a great vibe and the staff are really friendly. The food and drinks are always great and generally well considered 🌱.

Dined here in the evening before going to watch a Daniel Kitson show. Really lovely building with a lovely, relaxing ambience when inside. Service was great from the off. My co-diner had the Greek Spanakopita, I had the Beyond Chick-free burger and we shared some cauli-wings. All of the food was wonderful and very reasonably priced. I definitely recommend and would have no hesitation in dining there again if ever in Lancaster.

First time in a vegan restaurant. As a meat-eater I wasn't sure what to expect. Food was excellent. I couldn't actuality tell that my burger was not meat! Nice range of drinks. Minor point, unfortunately the restaurant was under-staffed at the time of our visit, so service was a bit slower than we'd have liked, but we weren't in a rush. Otherwise would have been a 5-star rating.

Disappointing Shabby chic style, but some worrying issues - significant hole in floor near counter and nails left half exposed (unpulled) in the window frame. Coffee tea and yoghurt good but New York style bagel was stodgy. Most serious problem was being served coffee in a mug with a huge crack - spilling contents over my clothes and the table. Cursory apology and no recompense - we will not return...

Best vegan food I've ever had, really love the selection available!

Went on a Sat night, food was great, service was fantastic and cheerful. We did freeze in the "big room" next to the main bit and it was very quiet (needs music) but we got used to it. Really must get better wine, it was in airplane size bottles. Not enough places for veggies in the Morecambe Bay area and with just a few tweaks this place could be amazing.

Had the Buddha bowl and it was a taste sensation. Very generous portion, excellent Value for money. Side of chips and coleslaw also very tasty. Friendly staff.

Menu looked amazing , but our pancake were rubbery and the apple and pear mix tasted far from fresh .The mushroom and cheese toastie was tasty .Our hot drinks were good .

Recently came for breakfast, service was a little slow even though it was quiet, but the staff are really lovely here. Had an amazing meal which was great value for money, the chocolate smoothie was unfortunately one of the worst tasting things I've ever had, how ever literally everything else was excellent, including my partners mushrooms on toast and coconut latte

Friday evening meal with friends, the restaurant was fairly quiet post Christmas. I had the Greek 'Pie' with salad. I'd suggest some fries to accompany this dish, as it was smaller than the other mains. My wife had the fried rice dish (spicy) with the scrambled tofu, vegetable spring roll and chilli dip. Both were very tasty, a cut above the usual vegan dishes. Our friends enjoyed the Katsu dish and the peppered Cauliflower dish (huge in comparison with the other meals). I thoroughly enjoyed the Cheesecake, my wife liked her very large Berry Compot Waffle and our friends the Afrogato. Reasonably priced for the quality. Improvement would be to equalize the size of the mains.

Would so recommend this place! I came to eat dinner here whilst staying the night in Lancaster :) . All the food is vegan and absolutely delicious - you can tell that everything is prepared with great care. The staff are also lovely and the ambience is wonderful - relaxed, softly-lit and cosy. Between the 4 of us we tried a good percentage of the menu, both food and cocktails, and everything was delicious. We'll definitely return.

Enjoyed lunch here and was fully satisfied. We booked to have dinner but sadly the weather interrupted our plans but we will return as soon as we can.

Food really good but explain to me why they gave us macaroni by accident and then took it off us even when we'd started eating it. Who else was going to have it?! You shouldn't have given us all the mains and starters at once if you were going to get confused. Kinda ruined the vibe

GOOD VEGAN PLACE! If you want Vegan food and drink - this is the place to go. Staff are nice enough and the food was pretty amazing: tasty and decent portion sizes. Only bad thing was the size of the drinks, the coffee's were a little on the small side. Other than that - it's worth checking out if you want to try (or if you are) Vegan.

The whole city was really busy and we expected it to be manic in such a cosy restaurant. It was definitely busy and the staff were giving it their all! We sat in the front bar and they didn’t stop the whole evening. Every customer interaction was smiley and friendly. We waited a bit longer than usual for our food but expected that and took advantage of the after dark cocktail menu while we waited. I had faux grois with gluten free bread along with tempura oyster mushrooms and salads; it was all exceptional. They were happy to make up a mixed plate and accommodate my dietary requirements. We also had the soup and coconut torte. Loved it so much I got another slice to take away and have the next day.

Went for celebration with friends as had heard good things. It was busy in lancaster as it was the lights up event and that's why I booked in advance for 5 of us. When we arrived the waiting staff looked stressed. The main room looked very busy but only with people having coffee and tea etc. We were seated in the side room which was a bit chilly and had very bright lights. There was only us and one other table of 6. We waited and waited and eventually I went to the tills/bar area and was just about to ask if we could have menus but the staff said we'll come to your table and before i could say we've been waiting for 15 minutes they walked off. So sat down again and 5minutes later someone came and took a drinks order , we asked for some cocktails and water. She said are you wanting food aswell? ? Well we didn't book a table just to have some drink!! So she took our order and at least 20 minutes before we got our Cocktails with no jug of water as asked. The food didn't come for at least another half an hour and still no water. We asked again. The cocktails were generally quite nice although the margarita had so much chilli or pepper in it burnt my lips. Someone the food was delicious like the Hassleback butternut squash but my Bao buns were cold and there was literally no fillings, was supposed to have kimchi in and there was none. The Oyster mushrooms which were supposed to be in a light tempura coating had a weird hard coating on, obviously forgotten and left in the deep fat fryer! And there were 4 mushrooms on it! So very disappointed and we spent alot of money there and the service was terrible. They were run off their feet ,yet it wasn't even full. Why would they not get enough staff to cover a night they knew would be busy? So odd. Won't be going back unfortunately as the menu was quite nice. 😕

As a first time visitor to Lancaster I discovered this real gem. So much choice! I had the club sandwich with chips, lovely crispy chips, and delicious sandwich, but too big to finish! My partner had Shakshuka which again was very nicely cooked and flavoured. Very good value and very helpful friendly service.

Great vegan restaurant with friendly cosy atmosphere. Food was amazing, had the oyster mushroom calamari for starter and then the cauliflower with tofu fried rice for main. Really nice cocktails too!

What an absolutely fantastic dish created in-house. The plant based runny eggz dip is created with cashews, tofu, garlic, mooch, turmeric and Himalayan black salt. The two slices of toasted sourdough cut into soldiers is just enough to soak up the dip. Pure nursery food at its finest 👍🏽

A really nice different place to eat true vegan food. A very extensive menu so you can eat something different each time. I go most weeks now as the food is so nice and it is relaxing in the cafe . One thing that I dropped a star is the strange door you enter by. It looks like the place is closed, and a little unwelcoming, the way out is nicer as its a glass door you can see the place is open. It feels a bit crammed especially by the exit door as a few people are coming in that way I guess because it looks like an way in. Just a niggle as I am a new customer in the past I have walked past thinking it was closed.Don't let it put you off the food is lovely when you go in and the coffee is so nice.

Absolutely loved the atmosphere in this place. You walked in and staff made it seem like you were returning to old friends. You felt safe, welcome and staff were friendly polite and attentive. Also let me borrow a phone charger so I was safe home as our train tickets were on my phone! Beautiful little place tucked away in Lancaster central, well worth a visit and good quality plant based food. Cocktails also very good for the price, decent sized !

We always go to the Whale Tale when we're in Lancaster for lunch and feel a bit lost for a veggie place for the evening so I'm glad we found the Herbarium :) I had the Spanish Aubergine with Hassleback potatoes which was well cooked, wonderfully veg filled and hearty and I think sprinkled with a bit of vegan hard "cheese" that DIDN'T taste of coconut! We also shared a cinnamon-y apples and pears waffle which was delicious but I'd get it without the ice cream next time (I am yet to find a vegan vanilla ice cream I love. TBF it's hard to please me with a dairy vanilla ice cream!) I'd also just stick to the great selection of Fentimans sodas or teas: Their Elderflower Spritz cocktail was the only one I fancied but a little too sweet and to me had hints of pear drops. I think it was the brand of liqueur rather than anything in the preparation. I also liked how relaxed it was and we settled in the snug for extra quiet :) I loved the taps in the bathroom 😅 I'd order the aubergine and waffle again! And definitely go back to try some of their "junk food" type mains when I'm in that mood

Went for a wedding meal. All courses were totally vegan and I was amazed at how tasty everything was. The meatballs were totally outstanding. The staff were really nice. I would recommend this place highly

Very surprisingly delicious! I was skeptical of a vegan brunch (brunch to me consist of egg-based foods, generally, and I am not at all used vegan restaurants/food). I highly recommend the breakfast burrito: very filling and delicious. My friend had the big breakfast (or whatever it is called), and it looked great, rich and she was quite happy with it. I definitively recommend.

Do not walk, RUN to the herb! This place is by far the best breakfast I’ve had. Could not recommend enough, I come here at least once a week for the past 6months or so and NEVER have I had a bad experience. Food is always top notch, service is great. The owner is almost around making it feel like a very local and welcoming place. I’m not vegan, I do love tofu and oat milk though. But often I find when places brand themselves as totally vegan it turns me away due to high prices and the mimicry of non vegan food. This place is the opposite of any of that! Yes it’s vegan, but they make their own amazing food and it’s super interesting and not your typical boring run of the mill veggie patties. 1) it’s a great price for what it is (bonus they don’t charge extra for oat milk) 2) the breakfast burrito and not avo on toast are 10/10 best things ever. Could eat forever. And 3) JUST GO, RUN!! GET YOUR HERB ON! I will forever be a big fan of well priced good local food.

We have been here two times during our time in Lancaster - just because the food and the atmosphere was so good. It is a place that welcomes you to stay a bit. Offering lunch, breakfast & dinner as well as delicious cakes and fresh tea. The dinner was extremely nice where we also stayed to play some games afterwarfs

Lucky to be able to visit Herbarium again this week and I’m once again blown away. I have a severe gluten allergy and find eating out incredibly difficult but the Herbarium team are so knowledgeable and caring that I know I’m in safe hands eating there. The food does take a reassuring amount of time to arrive…so you know it’s freshly prepared just for you. And soaking up the surroundings and lovely atmosphere while you wait is always a joy…today we got stuck into one of the board games available. I cannot wait until my next visit…until then I shall have to keep trying in vain to recreate their legendary slow roasted mushrooms at home 😍.

Unfortunately we were waiting half an hour for a smoothie bowl and some toast with hummus at a time when the cafe was nearly empty first thing on opening. We were told this was because 3 smoothie bowls were ordered at the same time, 2 of which were ours. I feel like that's a normal occurrence in a cafe, which shouldn't negatively impact the service, especially when there are only 3 other tables of people in the cafe at the same time, it's not even busy. Then, after having explained at the till when ordering, that my friend who ordered the smoothie bowls was on a fully raw diet, and needed everything raw, the smoothie bowl was served with toasted muesli and coconut all over the top. When we complained about this, the server instead of saying sorry said "but you said you didn't want anything cooked." We never used that language she was just trying to get out of it. When we complained she removed most but not all of the toasted cereal from the top of the bowl before bringing it back, there was still some toasted oats left in the supposedly raw smoothie bowl. It's a good job my friend is not allergic to them. Should have been offered our money back or a totally new smoothie bowl and at the very least when the server came back in the room she should have asked us were we all OK now and was there anything else she could help with. Actually though she avoided eye contact and wouldn't speak. I wouldn't mind if we had been even the slightest bit rude to her but we were calm friendly and polite and accommodating to her offer of scraping off the cooked ingredients in order not to waste the whole bowl of food (which she shouldn't really have offered us it should have been us offering that option) which resulted in multiple bits of cooked oats remaining rippled through her allegedly raw smoothie. The toast and hummus however was absolutely delicious, loads of hummus and the toast remained crunchy, 10/10 for that. Just such a shame that the same couldn't be said for the smoothie bowl and the way the servers were when they had made a mistake. Won't come back, sorry guys the service has significantly deteriorated since last time we were in here

Absolutely amazing! The staff are so friendly and welcoming and the food is always delicious. They tend to everyone, always going out of their way to adapt anything if need be. Such a cozy vibe and a great place to go with friends and family. I would definitely recommend to visit if you’ve not already done so.

Great food & lovely staff. We’ve visited the herbarium a few times and each visit gets better! The food is lovely and fresh, coffee is too. We recently tried via delivery and some restaurants lose quality when delivering, but the herb was still just as amazing!

Decent place, good vibes. Food was nice, especially since its all vegetarian. Unfortunately had to wait over 40 minutes to get our food, which let the experience down. Felt bad for the two girls working as they were very clearly understaffed. Bit of a shame as it would've been lovely otherwise.

Went for a breakfast, I was surprisingly different from all the English breakfasts. Nice and cosy nook with delicious food options. Loved the pancakes and the yoga bowl. The service was great, friend people you would want to chat with. Pleasant experience wonna visit again soon.

Between us, we chose three starters and one main course. The food was delicious, and we’ll definitely make the trip to eat at The Herbarium again. The staff were very welcoming, and kindly gave us a ‘doggy bag’ for bits we couldn’t quite finish…yum!! Please sort your website out…initially, we could only find your Facebook page, and the menus online don’t do you justice…there’s far more choice available.

Delicious food, lovely staff and such a treat to go somewhere where everything is vegan instead of having to look for the one or two items on the menu that I can eat!

We had a lovely, healthy whole food plant-based meal here in June 2023. The menu was nice and varied with a huge selection of teas and other drinks. Lots of lovely baking and sweets. The atmosphere was funky with a cute "hidden" dining area at the back.

I love The Herbarium and was very happy to see their new menu, food was delicious 😋

Beautiful vegan food with plenty of options

We went for lunch/brunch menu. I had the African stew (pictured) which was delicious! And a blueberry bakewell which was delicious. My auntie had a sausage stew which didn't have hardly any sausage so this was disspointing. The service was great and I enjoyed the decor.

Stopped for brunch on our way through after seeing great reviews. Lovely little spot and staff very helpful and friendly. There was confusion with tables and orders but this was rectified quickly and we shortly received our food. Food was very tasty! If I'm ever in the area again I would 100% return.

Lovely and super accommodating we turned up with quite a big group and the staff and owner did everything to make sure we were comfortable and well catered for. The food was beautiful and the Lancaster cider went down a treat.

Perfect spot. Amazing variety on the menu. Food was fresh and full of flavour. Clean ! The service was friendly and efficient.

It's got this vibe that is just welcoming, the food was all around tasty (minus the fake bacon, which was grim), the staff were welcoming, friendly and it just had this stay here forever it's cosy vibes. I can't wait to go back. Little bit more expensive than our other go to haunts, spending £40 on brunch for two with drinks, was more than we expected.
