Absolutely amazing start to finish, came here on a recommendation from a friend, greeted on entry and served and ordered in a very timely manner, staff could not be more helpful, and more importantly food was best we have had in a long time, we opted for the scotch egg starter which we were told was a new item, it didn’t disappoint , unreal flavour and perfectly soft egg. Went for Sunday breakfast. We were shown to table by a guy - probably the manager, who took the lunch menus off the table - we expected to be given breakfast menus but he just wandered off. We were left there for approx 15 minutes until a lovely waitress came and asked us if we’d like to order. Obviously we couldn’t, not having seen the menu. Finally furnished with a menu, my husband ordered the full English with poached eggs and I asked for avocado and tomatoes on toast with a poached egg, only to be told that we could only have fried eggs (despite the fact eggs Benedict, Royale and Florentine were all on the menu). The waitress said she’d previously been told off for putting poached eggs on the order instead of fried. Food came out. My avocado on toast was one small slice of bread with 1/2 avocado sliced on top. No tomatoes. I asked where the tomatoes were. The waitress apologised and went to get them. She returned with a cold salad tomato, cut in half on a plate. I’ve seen better food presentation from a 5 year old. This cost £7! The full English was ok. Streaky bacon was undercooked though and sausages were poor quality catering type. All in all, the best thing about the breakfast was the 2 cups of tea. Total bill c £34. We won’t be visiting again. Abysmal at best, sorry!

Been here in previous years (before the current owner too over) and it was nowhere near to the standard it is today ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The breakfast was amazing value for money. Really high quality ingredients, the half breakfast was plenty for us ☺️ The atmosphere was really pleasant with cosy music too. Can be hard to find a nice dog friendly pub but this was amazing. Would definitely recommend to others 🐶🐶

It’s been a number of years since we had a meal here and we weren’t disappointed this time. The lady that looked after our table was Charlotte who was amiable, helpful and friendly. She helped us with questions about the food and the wine and was patient and willing to explain. The atmosphere is very different from the last time in that it’s lively, friendly and welcoming. I had the fillet steak and my wife had the gammon. Both meals were of very good quality and cooked to order. The only personal issue was that the chunky chips were served with potato skins attached. This didn’t spoil the meals but our preference would have been for the chips to be without the skins. The house wines that we chose, a Malbec for me and a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc for my wife, were both of a very good standard. A very enjoyable experience

Booked for Sunday lunch just 2 of us with our dog. Where they sat us was a bit awkward with the dog as felt she was in the way as sat in the middle, so always someone walking past us so we couldn’t relax. We ordered traditional roast dinner which was served on a small plate and I was expecting the vegetables to follow in a serving dish. But they didn’t and on looking it was just one carrot and peas that was served under the slices of meat and a Yorkshire pudding. To be honest I was a bit shocked that it was just peas and one carrot! You would expect to get more vegetables than that with a roast dinner, on a carvery you are offered at least 5 choices of vegetables. The food tasted lovely but just lacked vegetables. I hope this gets fed back to the restaurant as it’s a shame as apart from this, the venue, the waiting staff and quality of food is lovely. It’s just put us off returning for Sunday lunch.

went here on a friday night after booking a table for 8pm. we live local and decided to arrive early to enjoy a drink or two first on our wedding anniversary. the bar was packed and lively with a good selection of quality drinks on offer, including my favourite real ale. we were invited to our table in the relative peace of THE RESTAURANT at 8pm and finally could converse without shouting across the table. the menu wasnt vast but i had previewed it and knew we would both find dishes to our liking throughout the 3 courses. first came homemade soup and samosas, both of which were very nice. we followed up with seabass off the specials for the wife and steak pie for myself. we were just savouring these fine plates by around 8.45pm when an announcement came over the tannoy in the bar area. "the kitchen is closed now so if any of you want to make use of the tables in the restaurant feel free to do so". we looked round and the other couple of tables of diners were paying up and leaving." that cant be right?" i said to the wife, but sure enough a couple came with their drinks and sat at the table next to us a moment later. now the layout of the restaurant meant that half the available seating (furthest away from the bar) was not in use, despite being partially screened of from the one we were seated in. surely they could have sat diners in there and used our area as overspill? anyway we finished our mains and decided to see the sweet menu. "oh,i believe the kitchen is closed now,ill have to go check" said Chloe, our lovely waitress. the time was now 9.05 pm.she returned and said the chef had agreed to make our pudding though service was finished.at this point i sent for the manager. He was no help at all and it did not sink in. All he cared about was his barfull of drinkers who couldnt find a seat. i pointed out id booked for a restaurant meal, not a bar meal but he didnt seem to place any importance on ambience as part of a dining experience. dug his heels in and seemed to think it was acceptable to empty his loud (though well behaved )bar into the area . i asked why they offered a 3 course dining experience and accepted an 8pm booking only to close the kitchen at 9. he blatantly attempted to blame Chloe saying she shouldnt have told us that. i pointed out that he had already announced it over the microphone 15 minutes previously! i was losing my patience at this point and demanded my bill,he brought it in person and offered me a 10% discount, laughable in view of the fact our anniversary meal had been ruined. i paid without further argument and tipped Chloe who had remained professional throughout. shame i cant say the same for her boss. constructive criticism was offered by ourselves for free and we were made to feel totally in the wrong. VERY disrespectful!

Met my mum at The Three Houses as it's roughly half way for us both to travel to meet up. Food was delicious. We had the Sunday roast - 1 beef and 1 pork, followed by dessert of cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding. Very tasty. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. My baby was getting upset and I asked to move tables to a quieter area at the back. The staff moved all my items including my pushchair, which was really, really helpful! It didn't feel like I'd asked too much and they were super apologetic - They didn't need to be! We will be returning 😊 Thanks for being supportive and helping me in my early days of motherhood 😊

2nd meal in a week at the 3 Houses. Amazing, properly home cooked food and affordable too. The landlord couldn’t be friendlier, checking on our meals and chatting with us. The decor may be outdated, but it’s been like this for years and it didn’t stop people flooding in previously! The pub has probably got the best array of draft lagers we have seen and there’s plenty of other spirits and soft drinks for all. It would be a shame to see this place close because people are not giving it a real whirl and are not supporting a great local pub. You can’t get food and drinks like this anywhere else.

Would not recommend the food. Order 2 roasts, which were lacking in quality. The Yorkshire puddings were clearly bought in, the mashed potato had a weird taste. We also order a turkey sandwich which came out on cheap shop bought sliced bread and the children's macaroni cheese was split. This place used to be well looked after but needs a lot of TLC, bathrooms are broken, cobwebs and dust, just need a thorough clean.

We haven’t been here in ages so decided to take our Grandfather. The decor was more tired than I remember and one room was completely out of bounds as it hadn’t been tidied up from a party the previous evening (we were there at 2pm on a Sunday and were the second table in the restaurant at the time). We visited today as a family and ordered 2 starters, 2 roast dinners, a child’s pasta portion and a turkey roast sandwich. We used to love it here but it is now under new ownership and the food quality has suffered as a result. The child’s food was poor - a split cheese sauce for Mac and cheese and peas sat in water in a ramekin for £8. The roasts were of very generous proportion but unfortunately the quality was again poor in terms of ingredients. The turkey sandwich was in thin white bread and soaked in gravy so fell apart completely. I would have expected a nice thick, bread for this sort of meal. It came out as a beef sandwich so I had to send it back and ask for turkey, eventually being able to eat 1 hour after arriving at the table. With 2 beers and a Diet Coke the bill was £71 - we won’t be returning unfortunately

The food and drink is very good here, but a few aspects of the pub let the place down. I had lasagne with garlic flatbread & side salad - all extremely tasty and well presented - and my other half had the pie and vegetables. He also had Bakewell Tart for dessert. The beer was great - I highly recommend it: Ossett Brewery's Yorkshire Blonde. Downsides: the ladies toilets had no toilet paper (sorry 2 sheets left, between 2 cubicles) and I thought the sink was going to fall off the wall. Also, when I was very clearly only about half way through my meal, the waitress came to me and said "Have you finished or are you still eating?" I assured her the latter was the case and then looked at my husband in astonishment - he was still eating too! We also felt the service was a bit slow, they needed more staff on.

Beef and lamb roast meats were very nicely cooked and the meal came fairly quickly. The meal was let down, however, by the roast potatoes, mash and vegetables. The roasties didn’t seem fresh (potentially frozen?) and the veg was slightly over cooked / soggy. Friendly and attentive staff - can’t criticise them at all!

We visited Sunday 9th March for lunch. We were shown to our table (booked for 2.30pm) and it took a while for someone to take our order although the waiting staff kept asking if we wanted more drinks. The pork dinner the 3 of us opted for was delicious, hot and really tasty, however the service was so very slow and given its not an extensive menu I didn't quite understand why that would be the case. We had an escape room booked for 5pm and didn't feel we had time to order a dessert. Due to this we won't be visiting again anytime soon. A shame really, as the food was very good. Just need to up the service, oh and clean the carpet that leads to the toilets.

They actually read my previous review about inappropriate and very loud music and did something about it. We have visited the pub several times since that review in January and every time it has been a pleasure. With the music volume now being set to a sensible background level and even genres which aren’t heavy metal, everyone can hear themselves talk and it is now a place to go to enjoy good beer, good ambience and good pizzas. 10/10
