I've been to this for pub for lunch and evening meals in the past, and always had fond memories, but on this occasion, we did go on a Sunday lunch time, but didn't want a Sunday roast, we wish we had, my husband enjoyed the fish, but my lasagne was terrible, something I would not even describe as a lasagne, I would have rather had a £1 weight watchers lasagne. The staff were a bit laxy dazy, if having a drink, perfect pub, but not for meals, sorry, I don't usually write reviews, but felt this was needed, £40 poorly spent.

As the title suggests this is an ideal stopping point whilst on a visit to RSPB Fairburn Ings. We understand it has recently changed hands and maybe consequently the new people are trying to attract clientele. We had lunch there and it was good. Nothing spectacular and there is derogatory intent in that statement but it was adequate, the right price and well served by cheerful people. What more could be asked for on a midweek lunchtime?

We have visited the this pub for years but it has recently changed hands and not for the better I'm afraid. The whole atmosphere of the pub, the cleanliness and the food has deteriorated. The pub was almost empty which rang alarm bells straight away.. Usually you would struggle to get a table on a Friday night and the atmosphere would be buzzing. We had problem paying for the meal as our orders seem to have got mixed up and we were paying for something we hadn't had but were assured it was ok because the meal on the computer was cheaper than what we ordered. Also we paid for pint of Fosters when we had only had a shandy but could see the lady was struggling operating the till so just paid and left. The burgers were well below par, not handmade which is what we expected for the price and really strange taste and texture. The lasagne lacked meat, was extremely cheesy and the ploughmans was a ham salad really, no pork pie or scotch egg etc. . We didn't hang around for dessert. Shame as it was so good before.

The owners were very welcoming. The chef even brought some beef out for the dogs.I don't think for one minute the standard has slipped: I really enjoyed what we had and will definitely be back. This place has 2 reviews on Trip Advisor, this one and one on 'The Three Horseshoes' Fairburn. And one set of reviews seem to be better than the other. So this place was taken over by new owners/staff in Oct 15, and this is a hard review to write due to that. Having been here before for years and years I know how good the food used to be. Had I just been here today for first time I would have been impressed, but compared to before it was lacking something. The place used to be packed, which it wasn't (it was empty in fact). The one man who was covering the bar and waiting tables inside and out was very friendly and helpful, but he seemed to running everything alone, despite other people wondering about in the back. He was doing a great job though. The food we had was on the early bird menu (£10.50 for two courses from a set menu) which is on til 7pm in the week. We had garlic mushrooms for starter which came with salad and baguette and for mains gammon, egg, pineapple and chips, and a steak burger with cheese, bacon, salad, chips and onion rings. The food was all fresh cooked and tasty with a good runny egg on the gammon. The difference was that this place used to have The Best Chips, however they no longer have these.Although I loved the old place I would definitely come again, but whereas before I would come for an excellent huge steak with the best chips (as this was a speciality of theirs), now I'd be more likely to call for the early bird menu and get a couple of good courses for only £10.50 in the beer garden whilst the suns out. I can only say go and think of it as a new place, rather than expecting what it used to be. Also there's an off road area that you can park in over the road.

Having read the recent reviews it seems things are not quite what they used to be. However with the nice weather this Sunday we decided to walk across for a pint. Upon arriving there were quite a few walkers sat outside but only a couple of tables occupied inside - the place used to be packed. While at the bar I heard somebody ordering a beef sandwich and although we had only gone for a drink we decided to order the same. I have to say given all the bad reviews it wasn't all that bad. Hot beef baguette and half a dozen roasties for a fiver we both thought was good value and was good food. We have always loved eating here and as it is always full we booked a table for 4. When we arrived the pub was empty which we were very surprised about, but put it down to Easter Sunday and people had possibly gone away.We were disappointed to find the menu options very sparse, as the board was normally full with a variety of options.. It was a set menu of two courses, I ordered prawn cocktail to be told they didn't have any left......So I ordered garlic mushrooms, which were luke warm and not appetising at all. My partner and his mum ordered the tomato soup which again was luke warm. The Sunday dinner was shall we say "the end of the day" roast potatoes very tough, couldn't cut through the skin, meat not nice, lamb very fatty, Yorkshires way too crispy. We mentioned the soup to the waitress who apologised and said it would be knocked off the bill. We again mentioned the fact that the food wasn't up to scratch and we asked if they had finished serving food, to which she replied they had!! Hence we obviously got what was left over. Even the waitress agreed with us and said it had gone downhill.....When my partner went to pay he found that the cost of the soup had not been taken off the bill, but he couldn't be bothered saying anything else.Upon reading other reviews we understand that the pub is under new management, which clearly shows. Sorry to say that we will not be visiting again!!!!

The Three Horseshoes has been a family favourite for years although we only tended to go every three months or so. The place was generally packed. Four of us visited this lunchtime, completely unaware that the pub had changed hands but straight away we realised the staff had changed; no Trevor in his shorts, and no Jane behind the bar. Instead of being full, there were only about four tables with people dining. The meals here have always been a bit on the expensive side (e.g. £7.25 for a jacket potato with chili, £13.95 for lamb shank) but they were always cooked to perfection so we didn't mind paying. Our meals today were very nice too, and plentiful. We ordered a bottle of wine and three glasses - the glasses looked rather disgusting, and the server did take one away without being asked, as it had lipstick marks on the rim. We cleaned the others with our napkins. All in all the experience was as expected, so we will be going again. I hope the new owners are picking up on some of the bad reviews and trying to rectify the problems mentioned.

We arranged to meet some friends here because we had eaten here on previous occasions and had always found the meals to be of good quality with a wide choice at a reasonable price. I had forgotten I had been told that the pub had been taken over and was therefore very surprised to see most of the tables empty, it was always very busy especially at weekends. The food wasn't very well presented, vegetables not appetising and the chips not much better, chicken was quite nice but not worth the £11 price. The staff were friendly but constantly asking if we wanted drinks. We waited a long time before anyone came to take our order and waited a long time for the food to be served. Will not be returning until it improves considerably. It was quite cold in there too which I hate when I go out for a meal.

This used to be my favourite place to eat and have been many times in the past when the old owners ran it. It was always great food and the menu had a nice choice of options. It has recently changed owners and I'm afraid to say I was disappointed with our last visit. I went for my Mother in Laws 70th birthday celebration and there were 5 of us eating. I asked for the mushroom stroganoff and my husband ordered the Thai Green Curry, after a few minutes of ordering the waitress returned to our table to tell us they no longer did the Thai Green Curry and also that they had run out of rice! (this was at lunch time on Saturday). We chose something else off the menu that we had to have with chips. My mother in law ordered the pie which arrived with a Yorkshire pudding on top instead of a pastry topping, we thought it was very odd but nevertheless she ate it. Once her plate was clean the waitress arrived at the table and passed my mother in law a pastry topping saying that the chef had forgotten to put it on top of the pie. We decided to have a pudding and I asked for the jam roly poly, only to be told that they also had no jam roly poly, my father in law asked for the crème brulee and was told they also did not have any crème brulee. He then said he would have the lemon and lime cheesecake instead. After a few minutes the waitress then returned to the table to say that they had just sold their last two slices of lemon and lime cheesecake and would he have the rocky road cheesecake instead. We were told that the chefs had forgotten to take the desserts out of the freezer to defrost in the morning and this is why they had run out. The menu is not a vast menu and has reduced in size since the new management took over and to run out of rice which is a staple ingredient for a lot of their recipes (chili con carne, mushroom stroganoff, sweet and sour chicken, Thai Green Curry) doesn't leave much of a choice. The only saving grace was that the waitress was incredibly friendly and very apologetic. It is quite a pricey menu for what is essentially pub grub and with the limited choice now available and the poor running we will not be returning.

The menu isn't as great what it was - if you like beef or chicken - great, but unfortunately it didn't leave much for me to have. Only 3 vegetarian options - which wasn't all that great, plus when we requested certain food items all we got in return is - we have sold out of that. It was only the start of a Friday Evening and they had already run out of most of the items!!!With that we decided not to stay and to never return.RIP the much loved pub we once knew.

Since the new owners took over, me and my other half have been here quite a few times and each time have been even more and more disappointed!we used to come here all the time when the previous owners had this place and you got what you paid for! Top quality food, cooked to a high standard and happy friendly owners.Sunday dinner is not a patch on what it used to be, it's like the new owners are cutting corners with the quality of their products etc and getting cheaper cuts of meat, but still charging high prices and the portions are smaller too. This place used to be packed on a weekend, but it's getting quieter and quieter.A tip to the new owners, change isn't always for the better, stop trying to cut corners and make more money, you are losing your customers, including us!

My family and I had a nice evening at the Three Horseshoes, the food was very good and the staff very friendly and attentive. I did get the impression that many of the staff were new, however, they were very enthusiastic and will undoubtedly blossom with experience and mentoring. The atmosphere is pleasant and unpretentious, the kitchen delivers good, honest and tasty pub food, whilst the bar is stocked with a varied selection of drinks. My only criticism, and it is only a slight one due to how the manager dealt with it, was that we attempted to order four different dishes (two mains and two deserts) only to be told they had run out. This was dealt with very well by the manager who without prompting removed a round of drinks from the bill by way of apology. It's understandable that these things happen form time-to-time, my only suggestion would be to ensure that the customer is informed of any dishes that have run out when handed the menu to minimise potential disappointment. That aside, a pleasant venue, very good food, attentive staff; I would certainly be more than happy to visit again.

We enjoyed this place 12months ago and felt compelled to go back. Obviously other reviews refer to changes and, yes, there have been some. It has changed from a quaint old fashioned feel pub to a brighter affair. It's a bit of a tussle inside between an old beamed pub and a stab at meeting a newer era. That said, the staff were a lot younger on average, but very friendly! The food was just what we were expecting and presented well, complimented by a great choice of drinks. Will we go back, maybe, but we may explore rather than race straight back. Give it a chance, you won't be disappointed.

The staff were really friendly, welcoming and helpful and therefore I wish I could have given a higher rating, but for me, the rating is all about the food.My meal came with a choice of new potatoes or chips (to share with the table) and a small salad garnish. As I opted for the new potatoes, there wasn't a lot of food on my plate for £11.50 compared to my friends' meals, although dishes of chips were in abundance. As they had run out of my two choices of desserts, I still felt hungry after the meal and had a yearning for something sweet. Therefore, I left the pub unsatisfied and reached for a chocolate bar when I arrived home.I would try the Three Horseshoes again, possibly for a quick lunch or if I didn't want to bother cooking but it would not be my choice for a special night out or occasion. I would imagine it might be a nice place to have a drink or dine in the summer as they have an attractive outdoor area if you like typical pub fayre, eg, scampi, pie, braised steak, etc.

I booked in at The Three Horseshoes for the 4th year running and was so looking forward to a wonderful Christmas Day lunch with all my family as per previous years. The pub was under new management but I had heard from a good source that the chefs were the same and the food was just as good as before..at £65 per head I was expecting a fabulous day----Sadly this was not the case! The restaurant was less than half full and there was very little atmosphere, just a few Christmas tunes playing in the background, no buzz around the place that the previous management brought every year - they did a quiz with a bottle of wine prize and this got all the guests talking and was great fun. The starters and main course were acceptable but average and the dessert was just thrown on the plate-I chose cheeseboard and there were 4 lumps of tasteless cheese, a heap of crackers and a bunch of green grapes - It was just dry and bland and far too big a portion for anyone (my husband has a big appetite and he said he was outfaced as soon as the plate was put in front of him). We were offered coffee and mince pies or we could choose to take the mince pies home -we asked to take them home but never got any in the end! While we were having our coffee the female chef, part of the management team I believe, came out of the kitchen and flaked out on 1 of the back rests face first and the other half of the management team proceeded to tell the guests on the next table that her sister had cooked the Christmas lunch all alone as they had refused to pay the chefs triple time so they had refused to work. Also, just to put the tin lid on it .. they had no ice behind the bar !!!While I appreciate the staff giving up their Christmas Day to serve us I still expected a certain standard when our table had paid £520 for food alone.Sorry to say but I won't be going back !!!

Been to this pub/restaurant on many occasions in the past and we were booked in here on New Years Day as a group of 15.In the past the meals were always large, good pub grub. This is the first time have been here under the new owners. We only had main courses and I ordered the fish and chips which has been a favourite previously. When it came I was somewhat astounded that the portion was actually larger than what I have been used to. The fish was actually longer than the dinner plate. The batter was crisp, the fish moist and chips plentiful and good but as I ate the meal I was struck by three things. Firstly, make the portion slightly smaller as it was almost off putting - I know we're not supposed to moan about large portions!! Secondly, there was a small amount of water on the plate after a few minutes. I could only think that the fish was frozen and had not been dried properly after defrosting so there was residue moisture that came out on the plate. Lastly, and probably most frustrating was the fact it was bland. I know white fish is not packed with flavour but this was tasteless. I think that if they reduce the portion slightly (and cost?), season the batter/fish, make sure it is crisp and dry and possibly cook the chips longer so they are brown, it would have been a very good meal. I do not want to give the impression that this was awful but a few small things would make it so much better. The staff were pleasant and it was not overly expensive. As an additional note, my wife had the sweet and sour chicken and she said it was as good as it had been previously and she would give 4/5.

The postcode brought us to the pub, car park a little further and opposite. As we were a party of 13 on a bank holiday we had pre-booked. The choice on the menu was good, something for everyone ranging from steaks to pies to fish and chips to salmon and including vegetarian choices. Although the main courses took a while to arrive we were in such a big party this is not surprising. Everyone enjoyed their meals. We would come again.

We visited last night and as we have been before we were really looking forward to it. I must say food was excellent but the service was poor, I do know it takes time to settle in but it seemed chaotic at times, and we was told the new owners had been there 2 weeks more than enough time to order red wine!!! As they had ran out( on a Saturday night) inexcusable!! We will return as we love the pub but we hope things have improved. And a bit of advice to the landlord dress a little smarter!!

The Three Horseshoes was recommended by a colleague, especially for Sunday lunch. We took a drive over and were lucky enough to get a table without a reservation, which is not easy apparently. On the way in there was a nice outdoor area which must be nice in Summer. On Sunday's the menu is traditional lunch or fish. We opted for 2 beef and 1 turkey. The food was indeed very good as many reviews have said. The vegetables were fresh and the meat tender, though I have to say I'd have preferred more meat and perhaps only 1 or 2 types of potato rather than the 3 we got. The gravy and the Yorkshire pudding were particularly good. The service was fairly prompt, though we were there early with only a few occupied tables. It was a very nice Sunday lunch all things considered, but suffered from what all pub roast dinners suffer from; none of them are as nice as my Mum's! It was better than most though and certainly justifies another visit to sample the rest of the menu. One improvement would be the signal for their card machine. The landlord walked around most of the property before he could find a strong enough signal to complete the transaction and it took longer than we did to eat our meals. Perhaps I'll take cash next time.

I am a regular diner at The Three Horseshoes and every dish I and my friends have tried from their extensive menu has been outstanding, sweet and sour chicken, lamb shank, rabbit stew and fish and chips being recent favourites. Traditional Sunday lunches too are worth the visit..The portions are always very generous, so don't eat before you go - and such is their local reputation that without a prior booking, you are unlikely to get a vacant table. I visit the Three Horseshoes for a nice night out with my wife or with friends as often as possible.

Both the dishes were exceptional , pub grub at its finest. The service was excellent , very helpful and polite staff. Prices are completely reasonable looking around 11-15 pounds for a main dish with sides included (chips or mash + veg ) Make sure you go on a sunny day and get a window seat if possible because the view is fantastic , a nearby lake where you can take a stroll down afterwards.

I've lived in (East) Leeds for almost 10 years and after visiting Three Horse Shoes for the first time today, I'm kicking myself that I didn't discover it sooner. My Dad was visiting from Essex and told me to book a nice pub for Sunday lunch and so remembering that a friend of my husband's had mentioned a few years ago that this place was fab, I decided to book. Three out of the 4 adults had lamb roast and the 2 children had pork and turkey. The portions were huge (perfect for us as we have big appetites), the meat was melt in your mouth, the veg (including cauliflower cheese and cabbage..yum) was cooked to perfection and the best part of it all...they gave us 2 gravy boats full of the most delicious gravy!! Oh yes, the mash was so tasty and perfectly seasoned too! How could I forget the huge non-greasy Yorkshire puddings which were to die for...?As we were a largish party, a lovely (and funny) waitress took our order and made us feel very welcome. We can't wait to go again...roll on next Sunday...nom nom! As you can probably tell, I highly recommend this place!

A bonus when feeding 2 hungry teenagers!Bit of a negative point, having been a few times over the past couple of months, the waiting time between ordering and getting your meal seems to be getting longer and longer. I know that the meals are all freshly prepared, but waiting almost 45 mins for a salad is abit of a pain. Not the cheapest place for a meal, but a cut above the average pub food.

This pub does fantastic food - i can recommend the steak and ale pie , the braising steak, the steak burger and the hot beef sandwich. Superbly tasty as if this was not enough the ales served are cold and well kept -none of that nasty aftertaste you get with poor hygiene. I was impressed by the hands on landlord and landlady who are constantly checking that everything is up to standard, and on one occasion refused to serve one particular beer as it had only been delivered that morning and needed time to settle -most pubs would have sold it to you no questions asked -but here they care about quality! Its not cheap but then you get what you pay for. Thoroughly recommended.

Me and my other half went here for Sunday dinner yesterday afternoon (12th July 2015).We just called in on the off chance and luckily even though they were busy, we got a table for two straight away. Next time I go, I'll make sure I book in advance though, as this place is obviously extremely popular. We opted for a two course Sunday dinner. I had the vegetable soup to start with and my boyfriend had the garlic mushrooms and they were both yummy.I had beef Sunday dinner and my other half had the lamb, the meat was lovely and tender, it just melted in your mouth. Our plates just came with the meat, roasts potatoes, roast parsnips and a large homemade Yorkshire pudding and in separate bowls we got, cauliflower cheese, mash, carrots, cabbage, boiled potatoes and a gravy boat. I thought this was a nice touch, so you can help yourself to what you want. The service was faultless too and the staff are nice and friendly.Cant wait to go again, but might just have the one course next time as the portion sizes are big too :-)

Walking around the nearby Fairburn Ings, we spotted this pub on the map and decided to give it a try. I am really glad we did! Doesn't look much from the outside, and has a curious side entrance through a back yard and smoking place, (notice says because of windy conditions) The inside is spacious and very welcoming (as are the staff!) With drinks and our lunch ordered, we chatted while we surveyed the various meals brought out by the busy waitresses, looking good we said, and it was! I ordered a fish sandwich with mushy peas and it was enormous! with a few chips shared between 3 of us, very filling. Others had soup (delicious) and chilli CC on baked potato (again, excellent) no complaints. Service was very good considering how busy they were, and very attentive.Smashing find this place, and we will be returning in the very near future!Highly Recommended.
