We went in as a family of 5 with a wheelchair (having to turned back from another pub which we couldn't get the chair in). We loved it from the moment we walked in - the SA flag on the wall did help, as the well as the Halloween decorations - madly busy but fantastic fun. The staff were really helpful and friendly and the food, although a long wait , it was exceptionally fantastic - obviously made to order too! Look forward to returning, hopefully at Christmas.

this is a little jewel of a village pub, with spectacular views of the black mountains and historic beauty of the previous blacksmiths within. This place is a destination restaurant. The landlord was so friendly and the land lady served up some of the best home cooked food. I can highly recommend the home made madras with real chips and rice. and the homemade pie, peas and chips. We were spoilt for choice and look forward to returning. Thank you for your welcoming hospitality. See you soon

Incredibly friendly staff that make you feel like you are friends to the pub, even though you’re in a tourist area. Menu is typical of a pub but all dishes made with love and delicious!!!! Highlight of this pub is the fantastic staff (family owned I believe ????) but honestly they made us laugh all evening .... (socks and sandals are acceptable, ok?!?!) ♥️

We were staying at the local glamping site in the village and were recommended to visit the pub by the owner of the site. We decided to give it a go on our third night but with me being vegan I thought I'd better ring ahead and check they had some options for me. Surprisingly, the chap I spoke to on the phone said they had a few options. Slightly dubious, we headed down and had a lovely greeting when we arrived by staff and locals. The lady who served us was beyond lovely and as they had promised they had 3-4 vegan options for me to chose from. We loved the place so much we went back the following night. I would highly recommend visiting this cosy little village pub, even if just to have a local ale and a chat with the friendly people you will no doubt find inside!

Thought we would try our local for Sunday lunch. Very glad we did. There was a choice of 3 meats and 4 veg plus potatoes, roast and boiled, plus Yorkshire puddings and dressing, all good quality and very well cooked. It was a buffet style, you were served the generous portion of meat then helped yourself to veg. Warm friendly welcome and service efficient. Would also highly recommend the cheesecake. Thank you.

Stopped off here for Sunday lunch. It’s a little off the beaten track but very easily found. Very friendly welcome by owners and locals. There is a restaurant but you can also eat same food in bar. We had come for Sunday lunch. It was served as a car very, we had beef and chicken. You can help yourself to a selection of accompanying vegetables and gravy. Food really good, home-cooked fare. Really enjoyable. We were pretty full afterwards but managed a homemade fruit crumble with ice-cream before waddling back to our car. There is a good choice of drinks at the bar including some excellent real ales. Highly recommended.

All meals were absolutely delicious, plentiful and filling. The chips, clearly home made, were particularly delicious. My family and I went to the Three Horseshoes for a meal last night as we had heard some fantastic reviews. There were five of us and we were shown to a table in the corner of the main bar. From the menu we selected two Hunters chicken, a madras, a steak and ale pie and a steak and Guinness pie. The meals were delivered within 15 minutes of ordering and looked amazing. Home made chips on every meal and the food was cooked to perfection. Although the main meals were perfect and more than filling we couldn't resist the sweet menu and the home made cheesecake and chocolate brownies were too good to turn down. We were made to feel most welcome throughout and although we were attended to sufficiently, we didn't feel pressured or rushed by the type over overzealous service you sometimes find in country pubs. In summary you get a fantastic, tasty meal and a very good pint in a cosy environment served by friendly welcoming staff. A perfect 5 star eating experience at pub prices. We will certainly be visiting again.

We were a party of 18 staying locally on holiday and we had a lovely Friday night meal at the Three Horsehoes. My friend pre-booked the table and also the meal choices because we were such a large group (it's only fair on any small establishment to do this). She commented on how accommodating and friendly the communication had been throughout. Everyone seemed to have thoroughly enjoyed their meals, good hearty pub grub. I particularly apreciated the fact that all the childrens meals came out first - that was a nice touch as we were able to settle them down and then get our food to be able to eat it hot. The pudings seemed excellent and I wish I would have had space to fit one in but I was stuffed! Home made and goid portions. All in all it was a very enjoyable evening, good food, good service and lovely setting. I would certainly go again.

Visited here on a very busy Saturday night whilst camping in this beautiful and tranquil part of Powys. The Three Horseshoes was the only pub in walking distance, we read all the reviews and were looking forward to our family meal. We were given a lovely welcome and sat in the old farriers workshop which is now a lovely restaurant. The waitress gave us our menus and stated there would be a long wait for food as it was very busy, we didn't mind as we where on holiday and the menu stated that the kitchen was small but they would be as quick as they could. Well having experience of the trade we couldn't ask for more than this, we weren't expecting Mcdonald's. We were served drinks by the barman at our table and when the food arrived we weren't disappointed, really nice home cooked chips, curry and meat pie's, followed by a great homemade lemon cheese cake. Can highly recommend this pub, the lovely couple have only been in the business for 5 month's and are doing a great job, looked after us so much we will return, having read all reviews the negative one must have been from that one that all business's get every now and again. All I can say is we enjoyed our time there, it's not the Ritz, Try it you won't be disappointed, thanks Diane & Richard see you again soon!

The week of the Royal Welsh show - Everywhere was busy and every pub had said we would have to wait for food (Average was half an hour). So we were also told this at the Three Horse Shoes - Velindre. We sat down and had ordered our food. But then after 15 minutes started to think all was not good. A table of 8 next to us were getting unhappy at the delay on food. Eventually, 6 of them received meals which were not at all appealing to the eye. 6 then finished their meals and plates cleared....then the last 2 turned up!45 minutes so far - Another table near us of 4 (who had been in a different pub next to us the night before so we were chatting) were told there was a delay...maybe another 15 minutes... they had been waiting an hour... with kids. But on complaint they did manage to bring out a pizza ASAP. Their food, over an hour wait, split into 2 services, looked grim.1hour 15 in and no comment to us about where our order was - another couple complained - desserts had been ordered an hour before.1 hour 20 - bottle of wine and pint of beer finished. Long past time to complain. Spoke to barman/manager cancel order we would pay for the drink and go. No other option - we had walked to pub (and had drank) - Pack of Pringles for supper! We are offered the meal for FREE as surprisingly it was now instantly ready. I said no. But eventually gave in. It arrived - My meat pie was a pie pot of lumpy gravy...no pie top. I sent it straight back. It repapered with a cold pastry top. My wife tried a chip - cold. So this was so bad we rejected even FREE food. I said I would pay for the drinks, told the barman/manager and then he had a Basil Fawlty moment saying he had been let down, not his fault, got the cook to come out. The customers at the bar had to suppress their laughter. And yes his generous customer service skills for our hour half lost was, to not charge me for the pint of beer, just £15 for the wine.

Not far out of Brecon and not to be mixed up the Pub of the same name in Groesffordd which is no way as good as this one in Velindre. From the Yorkshire Puddings to the Gravy, everything is beautifully cooked and homemade. The Pork was the best I have ever had, the crackling seriously crispy; the others had lamb and beef; the beef just fell apart and the lamb was beautiful; the choice of veg awesome...roast potatoes; carrots; cabbage; broccoli, red cabbage; creamy cheesy leeks; peas... all fresh ... other than the peas (obviously) not a frozen veg in sight; served in separate dishes so you can have as little or as much as you want ...and the desserts ....OMG you just have to make room for the homemade desserts ...... we had waffles in butterscotch sauce; choc fudge cake; sticky toffee pudding which you can have with cream; ice cream or homemade custard..... with more on offer.....all absolutely stunning..... the cost £9.95 for the roast and puddings approximately a fiver..... and in such a lovely old worldy pub with really friendly owners and staff... and for the boys.... REAL ALE.....We are lucky to have a few good pub/restaurants in Brecon area that serve really good Sunday Lunches but this is definitely up there with the Old Ford .....stick this postcode in your Sat Nav, you will not be sorry LD3 0SU

Best pub Sunday roast for miles! The beef was really tender and just melted. The roast potatoes were the best, really well seasoned and so tasty, and the cheesy leeks were sublime. There was loads of other veg and a big jug of meaty gravy. It was honestly one of the best Sunday dinners I have had in pub or restaurant and definitely the best in the area. We really didn't think we would manage to eat all they food that was brought out but somehow we managed it, although my husband did have about 10 roast potatoes!!We also managed to fit in a pudding because there was an irresistible selection of homemade puddings. I would happily travel here from bristol evey Sunday for their roast! The owners were so friendly and the rioja on the wine list was superb and inexpensive! Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Three Horseshoes! We received a warm and friendly welcome and our bar snack lunches were served promptly and piping hot. We've been before and will certainly go again!

My partner and I and our dog visited this pub on our last night staying at a local glamping site. The landlord and lady were very welcoming and friendly and told us a bit of history about the pub. There was a good selection of ales and ciders on tap and the food was delicious, including Jenny's homemade puds! We sat outside to begin with to take in the view whilst we ate and then we came in to enjoy dessert with a few rounds of pool. Would definitely recommend this pub as we cannot fault it in any way, would absolutely go back again.

My husband and I are visiting the area with our children and stopped to eat in this local pub. The food is outstanding - not fussy or over complicated - just damn tasty! We had steak and ale pie and the meat was so tasty and done to perfection - home cooked chips and boiled veg. The pie was packed with large pieces of tender beef - mmmm! We could eat it all over again. Highly recommended by us.

A group of 16 of us descended on this pub on a Friday night and were met with a very warm welcome. We went back on the Saturday night and had a good meal. Our group had dwindled to 9 of us by the Sunday but we all returned for an excellent dinner that evening - incredibly generous portions. Drank copious volumes of the Hobson's Choice and Lancer bitters over the weekend and chatted with the friendly locals. Paul and Jen were the perfect hosts and run a great little pub. If you're in the area, pop in for a drink and /or a meal. You won't regret it.

We loved our visits to this pub, which was just down the road from our B&B. Paul and Jen were very accommodating and even left the kitchen open for a little longer so we could have food on our first night. It has a very friendly and cosy atmosphere with the log fire and the perfect way to celebrate our engagement! The food was absolutely delicious and very reasonably priced. Cheaper and much, much nicer than other restaurants in the surrounding area. Especially the Sunday lunch and scrummy desserts home made by Jen. We had a lot of fun playing pool (which is a rare find in pubs these days!) and loved hearing the ghost stories from Paul and Jen!Thank you very much!Fiona and Dan

We arrived just before 9pm and greeted with a very warm welcome. Beers were great and the food simply amazing, especially as most mains were about £10. The home made chips are some of the very best I have eaten and all meals that came out looked amazing. If you're in the area and want excellent home made meals then I cannot recommend this enough.

I went to the three horseshoes during 1972 on a ponytreking trip with Oldfields School in Uttoxeter. The atmosphere then was wonderful and on return this year it was wonderful to see it lively and busy. Never forgot this great friendly pub.

Great food! It was very busy when we went and had to wait a loooooong time from ordering to service, with a 3 year old not ideal. However it was worth the wait! Obviously home made and good quality food.

Haven't been for about 18 months due to moving house and being further away.Went for Sunday lunch and brilliant, as Sunday lunch used to be. Choice of three roasts, Beef ,pork and Hoggart and veggie option. All homemade food accompanied by generous vegetable selection. The meat sourced from George's Talgarth melts in the mouth, not the stringy tough stuff you often get with a Sunday roast. Good selections of home made desserts.Nice bar area with a Good selections of real ale and ciders. All well kept and friendly landlord and landlady.A breath of fresh air compared to over priced Hay-on-Wye where a macaroni cheese costs you a tenner while a Sunday roast here only costs £8.95.Only proviso probably not for the customer that wants Lambs liver with a celeriac foam at £28- if you want that try the Bull's Head Crasswell, if you choose the one day of the year that it's open !!!

We were staying in the village and close by the pub. It doesn't look much from the outside but we received a friendly welcome. The menu is small but nevertheless there was something to please all four of us. We did have to wait quite a time but it was well worth it, delicious and good value for money.

After reading previous reviews decided to give it a try and was really pleased we did. Would recommend booking as I don't think you'll get a table on spec. It was that good we returned on the Thursday night for the special steak night, 2 x 10oz steaks and a bottle of wine for £35, excellent !!

We stayed here with our two dogs for one night prior to attending the Welsh Kennel Club Champ Show. Our room was really well equipped and very nicely laid out, and very clean. We were made to feel very welcome by all the staff. The full english breakfast was spot on, and they went out of their way to ensure it was ready for us promptly as we had to head off to the show. We will definitely stay here again.

A pleasant meal with excellent service but very quiet, i suppose thats usually to be expected in January. Probably the nicest salmon we've had with a scrumptious cheese cake to follow and lovely white wine too. Waiter had a good sense of humour and kept us entertained on a quiet night and said "don't forget us on Tripadvisor" so here it is! Quickly cooked and delivered to our table with genuine warmth and a smile. Better than our first visit last summer but we don't like to make a fuss as it seemed full of holiday makers and a little short on waiting staff we hope you enjoyed your after work pint Johnny, Dean and Jenny x

Went to find this pub for Sunday lunch, Aug 2021 The pub is no longer operating. Also tried The Dragon in Montgomery which was only serving food to residents at present.
