A group of friends met up at the Three Cranes for lunch - on my recommendation as I have eaten here before on a number of occasions. Three in the party had fish and chips underwhelming. I had the corn fed chicken. This is quite the worst meal I have had in a long time. The chicken was tough and tasteless and it was swimming in watery butter. There were vegetables on top including some sort of mushroom which, frankly, was tough and inedible. Mixed in with the buttery liquid were some leeks which just didn’t complement the meal at all. The waitress then brought more vegetables in a separate dish but far, far too many for one person. She didn’t come to check how the meal was so I ploughed on. I must have left half the food and, eventually, I expressed my disappointment to the waitress who informed me that she would tell the chef. I am wondering if there has been a change in the chef in recent months? We shall not be returning to the Three Cranes any time soon.

Superb sandwiches for lunch accompanied by fantastic chips. Good choice of food. Very tasty bacon, Brie, and mushrooms, in Granary bread. Generous portions. My wife had equally delicious cheddar and chutney. Great choice of 6 real ales. Friendly staff, great speedy service. Dog friendly, lovely garden to sit in. Very enjoyable and good value for money. Just had to write a review

Not sure if the chef has changed as we usually have good food at the three cranes. Our chips were overcooked, hand cooked chips and skinny fries, fishcake was like rubber and had to return it, 2nd one not much better! Will not be returning anytime soon, sadly, feedback provided to manager. On a positive the Shiraz wine was lush.

We found this lovely tucked away pub by chance and decided to try lunch. We had the sausages and mash, fish and chips and a rhubarb crumble and they were all delicious, home made, hot and reasonably priced. The staff were pleasant and sitting outside looking at the lovely village was a delight.

Wonderful evening here to celebrate a birthday. Don’t expect common or garden “pub grub”. Our meal was fantastic, a superb menu plus a “ board of the day”. I must admit we indulged a bit (ok - a lot) on our starters, which were brilliant, before our mains came. Portions are, in my opinion, quite large, and we were full mid meal. We will certainly be returning, albeit no starter to enable us to sample the dessert menu. Must give our waiter a mention. Lovely young lad who was so attentive without the annoyance that some waiting staff seem to have. Our meal, including drinks came to just under £140. That, we felt, was excellent value for the four of us for such high quality cuisine. Highly recommended.

Called in for an impromptu lunch while visiting area. Friendly welcome, good drinks selection, good variety of food on menu, good service all at a reasonable price. Food was well prepared and presented. Arrived at about noon and was shown to a window seat in the restaurant, became quite busy for a Tuesday lunchtime with some obvious returning customers. Would definitely call again when in the area and would recommend to family/friends.

Super menu choices for meat and vegetarian / vegans. Started with sharing continental platter which served warmed bread and a good selection of meats, cheese and accompaniments. Enjoyed Sea Trout ( fresh fish option ) which was soft, delicious and served with a really lovely hollandaise sauce and asparagus. Accompanied by a selection of table potatoes and fresh vegetables. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the service was very good. Staff friendly and the pub has a lovely atmosphere. Would definitely recommend and will visit again without hesitation. Thank you to all involved.

After enjoying such a fabulous Christmas lunch here last year we thought we would do it again this year. We were not disappointed! We were a table of 4 and booked last minute which was no problem at all. We had a welcome drink of sparkling wine while we perused the menu. Three of our group chose the Traditional roast turkey with all the trimmings and I chose the Braised pheasant with sloe gin and chestnuts. All plates were plentiful and were perfectly cooked. We had side dishes of beautifully cooked vegetables (not in my photo as could not fit all on plate!) We rounded off with choosing from a selection of homemade desserts which were bliss. Wished we had time for starters as well but our guests were pushed for time, such a lovely selection to choose from. There is also a cheese board as an option and liqueur coffees. We finished our meal off with a Christmas port. All I can say is what a wonderful lunch time and thank you to Cliff and his attentive staff, see you again for Christmas lunch 2020!!

Mid week lunch after a long dog walk. We sat in the rear garden (not to be confused with the tables out the front on the High Street), with the dog. Most, if not all, the tables had easy to erect parasols. Bowls of water for the dog were also outside. We ordered two Brie, Bacon and Mushroom Sandwiches and they were delicious! Lots of filling between chunky bread (white or granary) and came with large chips and a salad and I thought the cost of £6.50 very reasonable. The food arrived quickly and all staff were polite and friendly. I will definitely be returning. I note the previous reviewers comments on the car park, and yes there is limited space as it is shared with neighbouring businesses but we parked on the road directly outside.

Lunchtime end of April 2019. Main menu meals (not cheaper specials). Very small portions and at £13 each, not cheap for lunch. If we had wanted cheap there are plenty of £5 meals around! We are NOT big eaters. Salad was no bigger than a starter. 3 x 1/4 orange segments, a couple of carrot strips and leaves - VERY POOR - rubbish in fact. Fishcakes - well, it was a bit like "hunt the fish". Terrible again, mainly potato, tasted of smoked fish but it was difficult to find any. Not worth complaining, will vote with feet. We will not be returning.

We have just had supper with our two young grandchildren in the Three Cranes. The food was delicious and the service could not have been better. Two of us had what was billed as homemade steak and kidney pudding - and it was just that! Full of tender steak and plenty of kidney in a light suet crust. The portions are generous. It came with potato, if wanted, and very fresh properly cooked veg - cooked but not massacred. One of our grandsons had an excellent steak and the seven year old had a smaller portion of scampi and chips. I have been an occasional bingo caller, but not in Turvey, Bedfordshire where you can choose to eat at the Three Fishes or the Three Cranes. We stopped first at the Three Fishes for the possibility of a beautiful summer’s lunch next to the river. No lunchtime menu, no lunchtime specials and the “full menus” left on the bar were covered with grease or sauce. Apparently they had done battle in the garden! The menu was a choice of fried food or loads of carbohydrates. Where were the exciting summer salads? The tasty healthy options? The fresh fish evocative of the river run and promoted in the pub’s name? The fact that there were smokers outside spoiling the country air and what might have been delicious aromas, we left and sought out the Three Cranes. Not that we wanted to eat crane!

The waitresses were lovely and we received a very warm welcome and we were offered either the restaurant or garden to eat. We decided as it was a nice day to sit in the garden. We both ordered Roast Beef with Yorkshire Pudding, The beef was flavoursome as were the vegetables. There was a small amount of gravy over the roast and extra gravy in a jug was delivered to our table. The horseradish sauce was delicious. Staff came to check with us that our meal was ok. Lovely pub, tasteful decor. Staff pleasant. Food average, sharing platter of meats over priced. Bread heated in microwave so like rubber. Steak okay

I visited this place before moving to the village over two years ago. I had a bad first experience but since then have been back many times to eat or have a drink. The food has always been spot on, the staff are friendly and...

This is great. A pub that concentrated on home cooked food. Good quality and nice service. Small choice means fresh food well cooked and served. Always chef specials well worth choosing.

Enjoyed a good meal here with friends last week. Fish particularly is good option. The pub was smartened top a couple of years ago or so. In the winter there's often a fire going and the atmosphere is homely. Friendly helpful staff.

We went in here a Friday lunch time and as soon as we walked in we got a lovely welcome from the barman which then made us want to stay and have lunch not just a drink. We had a lovely meal of good quality fresh, healthy ingredients and there was a good choice! The customer service again from the waitress was excellent very attentive to your needs and smiley and likeable! We just walked in not knowing what to expect and walked out thinking that was a great dining experience! Thank you to everyone at The Three Cranes. It may be worth booking as we got there for 12.30 and it became full by 1pm.

The restaurant is nicely laid out, the dining area is spacious, light and airy. Large tables easily accommodated people, plates and dishes without being cramped. The young service staff was attentive and courteous and the service was speedy. The restaurant consistently has an excellent fresh fish menu with a wide selection of standard fare, well done and presented. Ok my last visit I enjoyed a hake fillet perfectly done, crusted with herbs (the chef had chosen a blend heavy with tarragon which match well with the fish and held up well against the accompanying garlic prawns. The accompanying veg selection included new potatoes which of course had to be dowsed in the prawns garlic butter, an absolutely delicious endeavour. Finally we finished with a brioche and fruit pudding with warm custard. The entire meal was delightful, and well served. The 3 Cranes is an excellent choice in the area for a casual upscale meal, especially if you are in search of great fish options.

We only stopped for a quick coffee and cake. There wasn't a vegan option but as it's December I wasn't expecting the bistro to have one. My mum had a delicious lemon drizzle cake and then the manager popped off and returned with a slice of coffee and walnut vegan friendly cake. Great service, great cake and great coffee. Thank you 😊
