An all round lovely evening, brilliant atmosphere, nice food and a fantastic welcome. I could have stayed all night basking in the heat of the open fire. A real home from home and dog friendly too. I'd recommend you give it a try

Really impressed. We were greeted at the door. My mother has a mobility problem so they seated us in a place with plenty of room. I had the pie. It was good. There was no complaints at all on the mains. The landlord asked if there was a problem with the veg as my mother left her carrots, ( she just don't like carrots ). I was looking forward to the bread and butter pudding ( one reason why I wanted to go ) yes the pudding was nice but a little disapointed on the custard, But the landlord maid amends and apologised sincerely. He wanted all our comments if they were good or bad. He really went out of his way to make us comfortable and to try make it better. The young waitress was very professional and made sure all was OK and to call if we needed anything Yes I will be revisiting

Great little inn for accommodation in the area. We chose this place as it was in a little hamlet of Thornton Curtis. We had things to attend in nearby Hessle but wanted to be in the country. The hosts, Rob & Dean were excellent! The accommodation is very clean and tidy. The food is fabulous and hearty. Most of all the welcome and hospitality from the guys was wonderful. If you like inns then you’re be more than happy here.

Perfect accommodation for the price point! Excellent location for us as we were attending a wedding at Wootton Hall which is only a mile or so down the road. The accommodation is separate from the pub, so no worries about pub noise when staying! Room was very clean, perhaps a little dated in terms of decor, but everything you need in there. The hosts were great, nothing was too much trouble and the cooked breakfast was top notch too!

Thornton Curtis is a small village in Humberside, approx 1 mil’s walk from Thornton Abbey (sadly closed to visitors since pre-COVID) and not far from Humberside Airport. We were a family group of 5 seeking great food in a traditional pub setting. This is what we found at the Thornton Hunt Inn. Usually on Saturdays the kitchen closes at 1.30pm but they kindly stayed open to serve us. We had a lovely relaxed meal and met the most gorgeous intelligent collie called Shaun. The landlord was very friendly & courteous - nothing was too much trouble for our party. If you are looking for a fantastic meal with friendly service in a historic setting and are in the vicinity of Humberside, I would not hesitate to recommend the Thornton Hunt Inn. Not our first visit and definitely not our last.

Absolutely gorgeous home cooked Sunday lunch. Gorgeous wine and friendly landlords and locals. 100% recommend. The pub is so clean and the atmosphere is so friendly. They have a pub dog called Shaun who is so well behaved he doesn’t bother you unless you bother him and then he leaves you to it. Never begs or hovers around your table. Wish this pub was my local. Well worth the drive !

Stood at the bar for 10 mins with nobody else waiting as the staff member was having problems coping. There was only 10 people in the pub and we was told it was a half hour wait for food. I think this was because the microwave had a back log. The food came out so hot you couldn’t touch it for 10 mins. The food was poor, soggy garlic bread and the lasagna was just terrible. The worst £40 I have spent. On top of all this the room was 24 degrees.

Loved this place! Fabulous atmosphere on the Fri eve when I visited. It was buzzing with a mix of both diners and drinkers at the bar. Service was excellent from the welcoming Landlord, the friendly bar staff and efficient waiting staff. There is a large menu of freshly cooked food. I had the chilli and it was SO good. My friend had the fish and chips and said it was better than what he gets at the chippy. Will definitely be returning at the next opportunity!

Have started coming to this pub regularly for a social drink, as it’s a lovely atmosphere with welcoming staff and the owners were also lovely and welcoming! I had a lovely evening meal a couple of days ago and it was amazing! Large portion sizes (with the option for smaller portion sizes) and the food was so tasty, one of the best I’ve had round the area! The dog that they have is also so calm and relaxed, very well trained! Would highly recommend both for food and social drinks!

This pub is great for a meal and/or a few drinks, I couldn’t recommend visiting the pub enough. I don’t live in the village but have been made to feel very welcome by both of the owners every time I have visited, they’re great with absolutely hilarious senses of humour! I will definitely be visiting many times in the future! Plus their dog is the sweetest, well trained dog I’ve ever met. If your looking for a good time, it’s the pub for you!

My recent visit to the Thornton Hunt Inn was an absolute disaster from start to finish. From the moment I walked in, I was met with a rude and unwelcoming attitude from the landlord. It's clear that customer service is not a priority for them, as they barely acknowledged my presence and seemed more interested in scowling at customers than actually serving them. As if the landlord's demeanour wasn't bad enough, the presence of their unruly dog just added insult to injury. This dog seemed to have zero obedience training and was allowed to roam freely throughout the pub. Not only did it jump on tables and disturb patrons, but it also ignored any attempts to control it. The noise and chaos created by this dog made it impossible to enjoy any semblance of a relaxing atmosphere. I attempted to order a drink, but the landlord's dismissive attitude made me regret even trying. It's clear that they have no interest in providing a pleasant experience for their customers. I witnessed them chatting with a select group of regulars while ignoring newcomers like myself, which only reinforced the unwelcoming vibe of the place. Unsurprisingly the negative reputation of the landlord extends far beyond the confines of the pub itself. Throughout the village and among local businesses, tales of their rude and unwelcoming behaviour have become almost legendary. It's not just an isolated incident; it seems to be a consistent pattern that has unfortunately defined their interactions with the community.

My partner and I booked a room for the evening and its safe to say we regretted this decision. Not only are the rooms extremely dated and need a good clean the owner is incredibly rude and ignorant, my partner and I both left feeling completely flabbergasted as to how or why he is working in the hospitality industry. Although this is the only "pub" in the village there are much better options available on air bnb for accommodation. Don't waste your time and money.

After a recent visit i will not be returning. The cleanliness left a lot to be desired and sticky tables and a dog left to roam and approach us while eating wasn’t really appropriate. The staff looked miserable as did whom i presume was the owner, we also overheard a staff member swearing not really what you expect in a small village pub. It’s a real shame as its the only one in the village i believe.

My recent visit to Thornton Hunt Inn left much to be desired. The presence of an unruly dog inside the pub raised concerns about cleanliness and hygiene. The staff's dishevelled appearance added to the disappointment also. Tables and floors were sticky, and restroom conditions were appalling. Visited as a party of six for dinner Saturday evening I have visited this pub before but many years ago and it had a good reputation then locally as I remember. First impressions were great, the place is very well kept and immaculate The landlord was very friendly and chatty, declaring ‘tongue in cheek’ that they all work for Shaun the sheepdog, who is their pet. Shaun certainly set the standard for his team as he is a beautiful dog, very friendly and loves to interact with the punters. The entire evening just got better and better as the food was served, all freshly prepared and ‘top notch’ which served to complement the well kept ales , Timothy Taylor’s ‘Landlord’ and ‘Boltmaker’ We wholeheartedly recommend this unique pub and will certainly return

Went with family for my Birthday meal at lunchtime. From the moment we arrived we all felt that the waitress was very unwelcoming. We asked if we could order drinks and were firmly told we had to order at the bar. Once we had our drinks we were asked to order our meals, the food did come very quickly, it was all very tasty. We had dessert and afterwards it was quickly cleared away by the same waitress. We asked if we could order coffee, she seemed quite surprised at this, then shortly after we were brought our drinks we were told that they would be closing at 2:45! We had a few minutes to drink up and leave. Got to the car and the waitress speedily walked to her car and left before we managed to drive off. Overall a nice place just a shame that the staff don’t greet you with a smile rather than an inconvenience. Unfortunately I will not be recommending them because of this, such a shame!! Two of us called for a pint and dinner around 18.30. Selection of real ales was good and the beer excellent. I chose haddock and chips with vegetables of the day (cabbage and carrots) whilst my son ordered sirloin steak with pepper sauce. All was good with one very big exception\; the cooking of the fish. Both the batter and the fish inside were soggy with cooking fat/oil which gave the impression that it was a little bit 'past it'. I would not risk the haddock again. The prawn cocktail with apple and celery was surprisingly good, as were the cheesy potato skins. The bill for the food came to £40 which was about £6-£7 more than it was worth. Would we call again? Probably but never for the fish and chips (go anywhere in Grimsby and it would be better).

We booked a table for 11 people for my dads birthday, and pre ordered our meals a week in advance. The timing and personal service of our meal/evening was impeccable. Once we were all seated and all had drinks our starters arrived. All 11 starters arrived in quick succession and all exactly as ordered. All 11 starters resulted in clean plates. Then after an appropriate wait, and attention to offer more drinks, our main courses arrived. As with the starters, all meals were exactly as pre-ordered. Everybody in our party was happy with their meals and there were no issues at all. Some had gammon, others cottage pie (a favourite) and others the generous portion of haddock. Most of us had chips, which are homemade and cooked to perfection. The staff made an extra effort with the desserts which made for a really personal touch. We all really enjoyed the meal and evening and importantly my elderly parents really enjoyed the occasion. We look forward to our next visit - which hopefully will be very soon. Thank you.

From the moment we arrived, the unfriendly, unsociable waitress wanted us to be acutely aware that we were not there for the long haul, but due to having arranged to meet someone from overseas with no phone to call the rearrange, we had to stay. The first thing she told us was that lunch was only served until 1.30. This was at 12.50. She asked if we wanted to order, again reminding us that we didn't have long. We explained that we were meeting someone at 1pm so would wait. At two minutes past one she came over again and asked if we were ready to order. Again we explained we were waiting for one more person. When our friend did arrive, she was at the table before she'd had a chance to look at the menu asking what we'd like. The food was very underwhelming, with particular mention for the 'home made chips' which were floppy, wet, and had clearly been cooked in a deep fat fryer 80s style which had the same oil in they'd been using back then. They were a dirty brown colour with bit of other people's old chips on. As soon as we'd finished eating, the waitress cleared away our plates, stating that they close after food service so could we move along now. We had full drinks! While we finished our drinks, we kept seeing her looking around the corner to hustle us along. As we did depart, she came flying into the car park and jumped in her car, so clearly she had her own plans and everything was about that. Would never return or recommend.

Molto buona..

I went with a group of friends with varying food preferences. It has an excellent menu with a wide range of choices. The atmosphere is very pleasant and the staff helpful. The prices are what you would expect to pay in this area of the country. When we got our food each dish was excellent. We will be back

We have visited here, as one of our local eateries, a few times recently. The home made steak pie & chips is a current favourite as well as the mixed grill.

I have visited the hunt for years now and enjoy the food and real ale... Unfortunately it is having a really disappointing phase.... A normally busy dining area shows that customers are voting with their feet.

Went to THI for double celebration evening for a meal for six. Arrived without girl behind bar saying hello or anything and cold and miserable towards us. We were ushered into a corner crammed round a smallish table. The place was quiet (Tuesday) and service should have been excellent. Common courtesy was lacking especially from the woman behind the bar who barely spoke, never smiled and didn't even help as we struggled to find the exit. When drinks were ordered, she put them on the bar for us to collect but didn't say anything and we collected them after they had gone flat. Felt like we were spoiling their night by being there. Waitress was nervous, quiet and struggling, dropping things, reaching over and asking us to pass meals along and dropped a clanger ruining a surprise by declaring, 'you're all having the chocolate birthday cake aren't you?' Doh!

I have to explain my "very good" rating. If you want posh, don't go. If you want chic, don't go. But the Thornton Hunt is a very good English pub, despite my two very brief words with a very taciturn and gruff landlord, who, by the way, wisely keeps out of the bar and leaves the work to very capable and personable staff.

We have eaten here for many years as it is local to us. I can't remember ever having a bad meal but we usually go for gammon, steak, pies, omelette etc. On our last visit we went with family and, on the spur of the moment, I went for fried haddock in batter with home made chips and mushy peas. The pub does cover itself on the menu saying that the dish may contain bones.....but I can't remember the last time I found a bone in fish & chips and so I wasn't really expecting to find one. Unfortunately my first forkful was full of bones and that really put me off my meal. Another in our party had the salmon fish pie and also found bones in that. I will certainly be sticking with my dependable favourites next time when we visit again for the lemon meringue dessert, which must rank as one of the best in North Lincolnshire. I'd still highly recommend this place but choose wisely from the varied menu.

We booked a 1 night stay here for a wedding, so mainly chose the Thornton for convenience. We were able to check in early which was really appreciated. The rooms were very clean and had everything we needed. Small touches such as a bowl of sweets, Aero hot chocolate and a Rocky and breakaway biscuits instead of the usual boring packs were great! We had lunch, baguette and chips...both very nice. Staff were helpful and polite. Breakfast was additional to the price of the room and I did think it was quite pricey. Food was good though and being a veggie, they had veg sausages for breakfast which is always a bonus. Was pleasantly surprised by the Thornton, would recommend and would stay here again!☺

I needed a couple of days of "me" time and, to be honest, was looking at Robin Hood's Bay, but they were all full. This was available and I wasn't disappointed. I enjoyed two days of quiet relaxation. The atmosphere was great, as was the beer and the food! Once you accept it's in the middle of nowhere and as such, isn't open all day every day, then you're sorted. The menu was amazing and excellent value for money. Well impressed. If I were to be picky I'd say the hosts didn't engage with visitors on a personal level very much, preferring instead to make sure customer needs were met in the pub and restaurant, not that that's a bad thing. Maybe I just hoped for more interaction

Menu is extensive and includes favorites plus a few interesting options. All choices were very reasonably priced - in fact the lowest prices I've seen in years. Our choices were well cooked, tasty and decent size.

Decided to go out for an early dinner as hot day and really didn't want to start cooking, arrived back at the Thornton Hunt Inn, traditional pub with a good menu and specials as well. I had a couple of pints of the real ale (Landlord), which went down a treat and likewise my wife had a couple of halves of lager (Kronenberg) very good. We decided to just go for mains and we both had Gammon with all the trimings and we were unable to finish it all off and total cost of food and drink was a shade over £30. Well worth it and on our must visit again list.

this is a little jewel of a place, the staff are helpful and friendly and the food is very plentiful. If you're dining here, go hungry! The beers are good too with the popular Timothy Taylor on tap.

Great food and nice beer with friendly staff in a traditional British pub, what's not to like? Next time I am in the area I will definitely stop off for lunch.

This is a regular local venue for us. Very extensive menu and excellent food with plenty of veggie options. The prices are reasonable too. I love the cheese omelette and I always save room for lemon meringue - it is so light, fluffy and yummy! Mixed grill, gammon, pies etc are all cooked to perfection and local ingredients are sourced. Local beer to boot. Cosy atmosphere. Highly recommended.

My husband booked a meal for us for Valentine's night but I would've enjoyed staying at home more. As someone else said the landlord is not welcoming, stands and glares at you whilst you're eating and the waitresses customer service leaves much to be desired. No sooner had we finished our meal then the waitress came across and took everything away whilst not even giving us time to digest our food. The drinks were pricey (£6.55 for a small glass of watered down coke and a bottle of cider) and the food was nothing to write home about as I came away with indigestion. To say it was Valentine's night no effort whatsoever had been made. No decorations, no flowers on the tables, nothing. A complementary glass of something would've been nice too considering the meal cost around £35. It was so bad it was almost funny. The best part was listening to "Oh Come All Ye Faithful" as the background music -on VALENTINE'S NIGHT!! Will not be going back and will certainly not be recommending the place to anyone!!!

Always worth a visit any time of the year for a good range of home made food. Steak and ale pie is always good as is the fish and home cut chips. Warm Chocolate Fudge cake is particularly good. We have been going to Thornton hunt for over ten years and the food is always of a consistent standard. We always ring and check availability rather than just turn up as the number of tables is limited and it is always popular.

We often visit the thornton hunt inn with living local in a nearby village and we find the staff to be friendly and the food is always top class. Home cooked food which is always of a high standard. Myself and my parter have worked our way through the menu over the past few years. The steak pie is to die for, really high quality meat and the gravy in the pie is so meaty, comes with chips and veg...the chops are lovely too. We can highly recommend the liver and bacon casserole, the curry, lasagne, local sausages and mash. The puddings are all very tasty too, the crumbles, cheesecake and sticky toffee sponge are all really yummy. Its nice to have a local food pub which is great value for money and always has people in eating which says a lot about the quality of the food. We always book as on the few occasions we haven't, we have arrived only to find no tables left to seat us...so i advise to book in

The inn only serves lunch til 2 pm on Saturdays. We arrived at 1.30 and was told we couldn't have food. The waitress was rude! The annoying thing was, there was only one party in the restaurant! No wonder, the atmosphere was dreadful.

I had the fish pie which was full of haddock salmon & prawns & very tasty. It came with a choice of chips or new potatoes which I wasn't expecting given the fish pie has mash, I didn't have any further potato. I had veg instead of salad which was fairly standard. Mum had the battered cod which she said was excellent quality fish, though she ate little of the batter. The chips were home made but nothing special. Fantastic value, however, for 2 mains & a bottle of wine £31.

Ginger haired guy with beard has shocking customer service. May or may not have overcharged for our drinks but then left at opposite end of the bar from where we stood and wandered off playing with his phone. My jaw hit the floor

The Latte was just like hot milk, I couldn’t taste the coffee at all. I asked for another shot, which I was charged for, but it was still too weak. I drink a lot of latte in coffee shops but I’ve never had one this weak.

Friendly staff, good service and plesant sourandings. We normally call in arond lunch time for a breckfast which is reasonable priced and very good. on a nice day you can sit outside by the pool / lake. I think there is a fishing shop and one can fish ? I think they also rent static homes ? you would have to inquire we only pop in for a meal.

Have been multiple times since the new ownership, first time was terrible and I notified the owners as they were new at the time but didn’t leave a review. Been great since until today. Me and my partner (vegetarian) went we ordered soup & sandwich combo (Chicken/Bacon Mayo) and Brie & Cranberry Panini with Chips. Food comes and my sandwich was hot Bacon & Chicken with mayo, but was expecting a cold pre-mixed Chicken & Bacon mayo, but I can deal with that. My partner was about to bite his Panini and thought it didn’t look right so decided to open it and found that it was Bacon & Cranberry with no Brie. We took the plate to the young girl that served us and told them, they took the plate but didn’t get a single apology. And eventually got a replacement when I had nearly finished my food. My partner is vegetarian by choice for over 20 years, however some people are due to health reasons and could cause serious issues. I have been in contact with the owners to pre-warn them of the negative review I’ll be leaving and they have offered an apology and refund. I have declined the refund as we did eat the food eventually received correctly. They also lost out on us ordering desserts and more drinks due to what happened and went elsewhere on the way home. The owners have advised they will be speaking to staff and have made a change on the till to highlight it’s a vegetarian meal so hopefully won’t happen again, but the damage has already been done and will put us off visiting for quite sometime.
