The Thatch Restaurant With Rooms in Melton

Visited the Thatch with my wife for an evening meal & overnight accommodation. Booked as a result of a recommendation by a friend & reviews given by people who have previously visited. The whole experience lived upto expectations. The welcome from Sammy (owner) was welcoming & sincere. Food was of a very good standard, service by waitress (Megan) excellent. The accommodation was both good value & clean / more than adequate for our requirements. Would very much recommend & hope to visit again

We had Sunday lunch, nice roast pork and enjoyed the red cabbage and cauliflower cheese. Bread and butter pudding not so good. The fire was not lit despite it being a cold dark day and it felt a little chilly at our window table.

Sunday lunch for the two of us-very pleased to see there was an option for a smaller portion -as older diners’ have smaller appetites! Also delighted with the option to have a carafe of wine. Very good food nicely presented and good service on a busy Sunday-thank you!

Cannot express how wonderful this beautiful village pub is. I’ve visited several times for Sunday lunch and was always impressed. Today we went for my little boys 1st birthday. The staff was extremely accommodating for 35+ people who came to celebrate my little boy. Great communication throughout. They went above and beyond. To accommodate for such a large party is always a risk however they excelled my expectations. The food and service was 10/10. Would highly recommend. Thank you so so much. Bethany

We have visited the Thatch for many years with the late owners and recently the new owner. But this was our first visit since the new chef joined I must say I was very impressed I’m not saying anything was wrong before but he has improved the food massively and is a great addition to the Thatch. Having had a pleasant meal here in the past and seen recent reviews I had high hopes, sadly I was very disappointed with the overall quality of our food. Service was slow, there were not many vegetables on the plate, and no sauces offered. Desert was small, uninspiring and appeared commercial.

Really enjoyed our Sunday lunch the food was all absolutely delicious. The cocktail menu had a wide choice to choose from the pina colada were very good We had a crayfish cocktail then roast pork 👌The wine menu was a very reasonably priced and extensive lovely relaxed vibe the staff were all attentive and really friendly we will definitely be back

First visit ,actually made the booking on line , quick response too . We booked a lunch for 4 people . Lovely setting , nice and clean , warm welcome , great food , average prices and a nice menu, something for everyone. Recommend anybody to go , and we will be going again

Just recently moved to a village nearby & been to the Thatch 4 times now, so I thought it was about time to give credit where credit is due. The first 3 visits were on Sundays & was recommended by our builder, & we were not disappointed, hence another 2 Sundays with family in tow these times. The roasts are very tasty, meat cooked to perfection, huge homemade Yorkshire puddings, coliflower cheese to die for & gravey like mum used to make, delicious. So we popped in again last night as it was the steak night Thursday. Again, the meal was to die for, very large steaks with all the trimmings, absolutely fantastic. The puddings are naughty but nice, managed to try 4 different ones so far & all of them are generously sized & delicious. A bit about the staff, again we can not fault. All very polite, friendly & happy to serve girls, always in sight should you require anything else. Had a long chat with Sam, the owner at the bar, when we arrived & what a lovely welcoming, friendly lady she is. She is obviously putting her heart & soul into her new venture & we have to say we think she's getting it right. Keep doing what you're doing, Sam & the whole team. You've got a lovely restaurant that we certainly want to keep coming back to. Thank you all very much. Nearly forgot because you don't see them, but the chef's are I suppose the unsung hero's. Along with the nice ambience at the Thatch & the lovely welcoming friendly staff, the food has been spot on, on all 4 occasions we have visited, so thanks to you too. Simply fantastic! We went to the Thatch for a family birthday and it was top notch in every way. We were welcomed by the courteous staff at the door and invited to the bar taking our drinks into the sunny beer garden. Our order was taken outside and we were invited in some 15 minutes later. The meal was really tasty and the steaks were cooked as requested. Service was excellent and we never felt rushed or over pampered - it was just right. Keep doing what you are doing, our new 'go to' special occasion location!!

Took mum there for her 95th birthday meal. We received a really warm greeting when we arrived and help with her wheelchair too, nothing too much trouble. Our starter, main meal and desert were all delicious and beautifully presented. The staff were really friendly & attentive. All in all a six star rating would be appropriate. Highly recommended.

Had an excellent Easter Sunday lunch here. The service was prompt and friendly. There was an excellent choice of food and a good wine list. Portions were generous. Very enjoyable

Haven’t visited this establishment for about twenty five years and was reasonably impressed. I went for the meat pie chips and veg which was very nice, as was the desert and starters. Only slight disappointment the coffee served afterwards was not very hot, due I suspect, to the cups not being heated prior to making. Would visit again.

Probably the best Sunday lunch we’ve ever had. The service was really good as was the ambiance in this lovely restaurant. The roast lunches were delicious and plentiful. Highly recommended and looking forward to our next visit.

We ate here on our first nights stay in near by Shelton. What a lovely dinning experience beautiful tardis like restaurant with lovely tables and comfortable chairs. We were shown to our table and given the menu to peruse, not extensive but something to suit...

We have been visiting The Thatch on Bottesford for many many years. The current owners Kerry and Paul have brought it up to top drawer dining whether you are there for lunch, Sunday lunch tapas menu or Al a Carte menu you cannot fault it...

Nice surroundings albeit olde worlde building and decor. But probably original. We both ordered the crab appetiser which was excellent. We also both ordered the fillet steak which we specified as medium rare, but more rare than medium, and they were both cooked to perfection....

Had a family celebration and booked in at The Thatch. This is my 2nd review of the thatch, which I don’t normally do 2nd reviews, but this had to be done. As last time the great ambience and warm welcoming owners/staff. One thing I want to say this time, as busy as these guys are, you wouldn’t know as the service is impeccable. You really feel you matter. I think the thatch has that perfect balance with their service, all timings for courses, attentive but not overly and all seem happy to be there. The place is also spotless too, as I said in my last review. So in to the food. I had an the smoked fish to start followed by a chicken Brie and cranberry pie and a sticky toffee brûlée to finish. The fish was spot on, then the main arrived. That pie was again no ordinary pie. Made and cooked to perfection. Most of us had the same dessert and it stopped us all in our tracks. It was one of them “oh my god” moments. So perfect place, perfect service, perfect food. What more could you ask for.

1st time visit to a place I have passed on a regular basis. A lovely dining experience. The food was very good, the staff were engaged friendly and attentive. The place is well presented and has excellent attention to detail. A well stocked bar and a good choice on tap . I was hard pressed to pick fault. We will be back .....

We were there with a group from Friends of st. Wulframs.I had the panacotta starter, hubby had the prawn tienne. My savoury panacotta starter was amazing. John had the steak and ale pie an individual pie with beef from the local butcher. Amazing. There was a big party of us. The service was excellent. We sat down on time at 12.30. Most of us had 3 courses and coffee and we had finished by 2.30pm. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Nothing was too much trouble.

My husband & I came here for lunch with a group of friends,some of us had the set menu and some the al a carte no one was disappointed the food and service were excellent,we would certainly like to come again.

Went to The Thatch at the weekend and once again what a great evening, food presentation superb and the the food itself was excellent washed down with a bootle of Persecco and Champagne. Took 2 of our friends from Exeter and my sister in law from Glastonbury and they all stated what a lovely experience they had, from relaxing in the wine bar with a drink whilst reading the menu to the meal itself and the service from the extremely competent waiting staff.

It's really good when a restaurant has excellent deputy manageress who works with the staff in a really friendly manner. The restaurant was busy and despite that the staff ensured that meals and drink were not delayed.

We had a reasonably wide range of food which seemed to go down well all round.. no complaints anyway.

The Thatch wouldn't normally be on our radar (about an hour away from home) but our son bought us a voucher for Christmas, so we worked this visit in with a trip to Belvoir Castle. And we were very grateful for his recommendation.

From the moment you walk in the door you are welcome whether you are going for lunch, just coffee, alacarte, tapas or wine bar the service and the food is always top notch. The Tapas Bar had been recommended to us we were not disapointed, you have a choice of up to three dishes per person, £4.95 for one and £12 for 3 you can have sides if you want but believe us you won't need them. Tapas is open wed, thurs, fri, 12 - 2pm and 6pm to 9pm. It was very busy there is lots going on around you with restraunt and wine bar and friday evenings are also jazz night. The bar is well stocked. The wine choices are good. Well worth a visit. Oh and if you can manage one the deserts are fabulous.

Decided to try the tapas menu and were certainly not disappointed. A great variety of dishes, all excellent flavours and well presented. Good value for a different night out in excellent setting. Very relaxed and well looked after by the staff. Would certainly go again.

Came here to celebrate my Cousin's birthday. The fish and chips are oustanding and the pie that my niece had, she throughly enjoyed. We sat outside in the beautiful gardens before delicious meal. A really lovely place to "just be"

What could be nicer than a Bank holiday Monday family lunch out? Almost anything if the Thatch was the location! The liver was over cooked & jus cold & tasted of vinegar. Fish had been frozen & wasn’t fresh. Sorbet was full of ice crystals. Ham hock starter just awful! Service was good but heaven knows who was in the kitchen - they shouldn’t be!

A lovely place to visit for a meal or just to have a drink . Staff are very warm and welcoming great food and service. I can highly recommend you try the tapas for something slightly different

Went for Anniversary meal, always a good experience although group of men drinking at bar were noisy and swearing a bit which spoilt having drink before we ate. Starters were lovely, I had beef for main and was a bit tough but husbands pork was really tender. No room for pud!

Last visited in September 2017 probably not possible but this place has only got better. Usually when a place expands the quality of food & service suffers, not the case with the Thatch great food and excellent service. Congratulations to the owners this place really is excellent, we have a local village pub on our doorstep but would sooner drive fifteen miles to the Thatch (enough said).

I can not recommend enough about The Thatch in Bottesford. The owner Carrie and her entire team including the chefs are amazing. If you are around Nottingam please detour to come and try the food at The Thatch.

We wanted to take our friends out for a meal. They live in Grantham and recommended The Thatch. We started with gin & tonics which were extra nice then we all had a really enjoyable meal, lovely food. The staff were very friendly

As a surprise my other half’s Mum n Dad took us to their regular haunt The Thatch. The ambience of this place is the first thing that was surprising. It looks very oldy worldy from the outside and sure enough has that feel when you walk in, especially the fire place area, but it has a very up to date look. Then you walk through and realise how big this place is, in a good way. Now firstly this place is spotless, and I mean spotless throughout.

Took my Dad here for his birthday. Relaxed atmosphere, staff were very friendly. Ordered from the 3 course set menu. Portion sizes where just right and food was cooked beautifully. Waitress was very attentive. Would definitely come here again!

What a lovely venue for Sunday lunch. Lovely white linen tablecloths, cosy warm atmosphere. very helpful and friendly staff in a delightful setting. But the best bit must be the food - thank you chef - the roast beef was delicious, home made large Yorkshire pudding with fresh veg. Chocolate bread and butter pudding - just heaven. Go !

On Monday we went to The Thatch to celebrate New Year's Eve. We had a fabulous evening, Kerry and Paul are the perfect hosts and work well together with their staff. The meal was faultless, each course timed to perfection and the entertainment created an excellent atmosphere to welcome in 2019. We feel very lucky to have this little gem on our doorstep. We will certainly be booking for the next New Year and will be sampling the newly opened tapas bar.

After having Christmas Day lunch hear in 2017 which was excellent ,we rebooked after eating our lunch for Christmas 2018 .

We visited this restaurant during the summer and we had a fine meal, and were looking forward to our next visit. What a disappointment. It did not start well with dirty cutlery having to be replaced, and when ordering a bottle of sparkling water for the table were told that they did not have any! If that had been the only issue it would have been a minor inconvenience. However, the standard of food had dropped dramatically. One of our party had a lamb shank which mostly comprised of fat and was probably the smallest lamb shank I have seen served in a restaurant. On top of that the pies were bland and uninspiring. We made our concerns known to the staff, but nobody came to investigate our concerns save to give us the bill. We could not recommend this restaurant anymore, and unless we hear that there has been an improvement we will not be going back. Very disappointing.

Went out for Christmas dinner with a group of friends. The prices have increased and the standard fallen. The starter and pudding were obviously bought in and not made on the premises. The standard of those were not great and pretty tasteless.

I organised a Christmas Meal evening out for 30 of us from the site I live in Langar.

Seems ages since we were here last, I'm sure they've had some alterations with a bar at the back of the building, only say that because it's the first time we've been in there....

On arrival they could not find us on the list, which we booked by telephone,we where then seated at a table and we ordered some wine,eventually they ask if we where ready to order which we did,half an hour later they brought the soup which we ate, after another lengthy wait we where served with the main course, after this we ordered a dessert which we complained to the manageress still had not arrived after another twenty minute wait, she said they where very busy.

Visited last night for our wedding anniversary and husband's birthday meal. Been it's of times before and thoroughly enjoyed the food as we did last night. Well except my cold mushy peas! The only criticism was it was all very rushed and not a relaxing evening. There is a difference between good service and feeling like your at McDonald's. 35 minutes to eat two courses it could have come on one plate and saved washing up!!

My hubby & I took my parents to the Thatch for my dad’s birthday. Service was very good from the moment we arrived until with left. My hubby & I had 3 courses whilst the parents had 2 courses. My dad & I had the chicken & mushroom pie for main course, all homemade, pastry thin & crusty, whole button mushrooms & plenty of tender chicken in a creamy sauce. My Mum has the cod in parsley sauce & hubby had the beer battered fish & chips. All good portion sizes & all 4 plates were left clean! The desserts were very nice as well. A very enjoyable meal & value for money.

Not cheap but sheet luxury. This is certainly a place i would return to and have done.The food is excelkent. The service is good and the atmosphere is relaxing. Warning it is not a place for children. It does not cater for them specifically and I feel the ambience is too adult. Lunchtime weekdays is better value.The price seems to go up in the evening (although it's the same dushes!) For adults who want some peace tranquility and quality food i can recommend this one.Not a big car park though.

visited last night for the steak night,(we have eaten here several times before) from when we first arrived Paul was very attentive, funny as always, the hostess came and said hello when we arrived and told us about the menus and said she would come and let us know when the table was ready. Sat and had a few drinks at the bar which was very pleasant due to the cosy surroundings and great atmosphere. Paul recommended which bottle of red wine would go best with our steak, this was taken through to the table before we got there, the hostess came and took us through to the restaurant, which was equally as charming as the bar area, the steaks arrived within minutes of sitting down, we both had the fillet which was amazing !!!! we have dined in many restaurants and I have to say this was the best steak we have ever had !!!! would highly recommend to anyone to attend the Thatch if they like experiencing good food, great service and an extremely warm welcome.

Called in on spec very quite so easliy found a table in this charming resturant.Staff very friendly and accomodating giving personal attention to detail.My wife ordered the Salmon which looked as was Im told delicous whilst I ordered the Crayfish cakes and Ragotini as a main.My dish was wuite bland and next time I will order the "fish and chips" which looked huge and appetising.Value for money good and will call back but as I said will not oder the same main.

I have visited this restaurant on many occasions and have been so pleased that I have not hesitated to recommend it to friends. So when we had visitors from Australia this was the first choice to take them for a meal. Unfortunately, it just seemed like a different place and left me very disappointed.

Very lucky to have been twice in a week, so different dishes, drinks and experiences. I can only report good things :-) Perfectly positioned starters, and amazing mains (Sea Bass, not a fillet but a whole fish). Some great red wines to wash it all down with, and a couple of local beers! Oh a super friendly waitresses to complete your evening.

Warm friendly welcome. Stayed for three nights in a lovely atmosphere. Spotless white linen in bedroom and restaurant. Twin beds very comfortable. Quiet at night ensuring a good sleep. Enjoyed delightful breakfast each morning. No personal experience of the restaurant at lunch/evening but it is very popular which speaks for itself. An extensive bar. Me and my husband took our parents here for a family get together. Never been before, walked in and was seated in the living room. Was cozy and staff were friendly and attentive, brought our drinks and menu over. Great selection of gins! Were taken to our table in a very smart extension looking out into garden, the Sunday lunch was amazing! The lamb and beef were so delicious and so was the gravy. We took our daughter to celebrate turning 10 years old. Wow they made her feel so special. First impressions were good. Well furnished and designed, pristine white table cloths and napkins. Staff very friendly and helpful. Tasty and filling Sunday roast which was enjoyed by all of us. Next time we go to Nottinghamshire we will revisit.
