The friendliest staff and best fried bread this side of the Pecos River. The full English breakfast is top drawer but the fried bread wins the prize! Love this place!

This place seems to get very busy and I can’t understand why. Reasonably priced, especially for its location, seating inside & out. Great menu for all, Veggies included. Staff asked about allergies before taking payment. Really nice yummy food. Perfectly cooked and assembled. Don’t like the silly cups and pots bother I prefer a mug of tea but that aside. Pukka!

Ordered ‘salad with a selection of cheeses’ £9.55 I received two slices of pre-packed cheese cut in four triangles spread out on the plate and a small sprinkling of pre-grated cheese from a bag. Processed with no flavour. This was low quality cheese. Little bit of salad but oddly, copious amounts of raw sliced onion. Half a par-baked baguette. No dressing or coleslaw. They said they had run out of food due to a busy event weekend. If that’s the case, take certain choices off the menu, or go shopping Monday morning and replenish produce levels. Don’t charge the full price for a cobbled together meal made from cheaply priced left overs. And it took an age to arrive.

Me and my mum come here for lunch on average once per week. We always have the cheese and ham panini and it's almost always delicious! It comes with an ample salad garnish and a little tin of coleslaw. There's a lovely warm atmosphere and the views looking out onto the sea are very pleasant indeed! Prices are reasonable for what you get. The cafe is always very busy when we are there , so clearly a popular lunch spot. Decor is tasteful and light and it always looks clean and tidy. Staff seem busy, but polite. We did have to remind them about the forgotten coleslaw on a couple of occasions, but it was promptly bought out. It seems granary bread for the panini's has stopped and now serve only white which is a shame - but apart from that, happy customers!

Lovely restaurant and coffee shop adjacent to the sea front in Lowestoft. I have visited the Thatch many times in the past and I find the food and the coffee excellent, and the surroundings beautiful. I don't normally write reviews but I visited yesterday for coffee and was served by a very pleasant and courteous young lady wearing glasses. I don't know the young lady's name but she was extremely polite and considerate, which, with the excellent coffee, served to make the visit a very pleasurable experience. I would recommend the Thatch to anyone who appreciates nice food, coupled with old world charm in a beautiful location.

I’ve walked past this pretty thatched restaurant on the seafront south of Lowestoft town centre many many times but have never been inside. It was packed at 1pm on a Friday afternoon in March but there were a few indoor tables available so we were able to sit. They really need more staff. I queued to order for about 15 minutes but once at the head of the queue the staff were friendly and helpful. We sat and had our drinks. Unfortunately my glass was dirty with a lipstick mark on the rim. We then waited another half hour for our food to arrive. First impressions were good. I had the scampi with chips and garden peas. My husband, however, ordered the bacon and cheese burger and chips which was supposed to be accompanied by coleslaw - which was missing. This was quickly remedied by the staff. It was then he discovered that there was no bacon either. But by this time he was hungry and we were fed up of complaining and just ate and left. Not an experience we will be repeating in a hurry.

Called in for breakfast on a cold February morning, Asked for a vegan breakfast which sadly they don't do but, and here's the big plus, the staff were amazing, they rallied round, looked at all the ingredients on the usual vegetarian options and managed to get me something tasty and filling to eat. My wife had a breakfast wrap which she said was delicious, hot and tasty ( so was the wrap! Bonus points for me 😁) Really friendly place and a must visit if you are in Lowestoft and feel peckish. This is the second visit for us and both have been very pleasant, we were too late for the breakfast offer so it was suggested that we share an all day breakfast which was more than enough for us both, you get 2 sausage 2 bacon 2eggs, beans,2hash brown, fresh toms, and 2toast. Price £12.95 so worked out cheaper than the 2 breakfasts we would have had, food was brilliant nicely presented and nicely cooked. The staff were really nice the young man that served us was very pleasant and was really helpful he even offered to take a photo of us when he saw me struggling to take a selfie of us. Both times we have visited the staff and the atmosphere were great will definitely make this one of our regular places to visit. Really gone downhill hill since it changed hands. The place should be renamed the Thatch Kindergarten. It was full of noisy and badly behaved children. Food going everywhere. Shouting and screaming. Running around the place. Such a shame. They have even taken away some of the best tables to put a dj set up with lots of TVs around the place. Why does something that was so good go downhill. Yet another good thing that will not be visited again

The roast beef accompanied by Yorkshire, roast potatoes, parsnips, pig in blanket and an incredibly tasty gravy, great depth of flavour. The beef was also very tasty as was the nutroast. We all enjoyed, our meal. Apple pie the only dessert choice, but assortment of cakes, scones available. Nice coffee, to finish our meal. Polite waitress. Well worth a visit.

Went here for a quick Sunday lunch, whilst visiting the beach! We were told there was a wait, but he wouldn't give any clue as to how long. We guessed about 45mins which would have been fine. However, when after an hour we were told another 20minutes, it then arrived 1hr 30mins later which I find unacceptable, especially when others who just had sandwiches and chips were served first. If they had said sanwiches are quicker we would have had them. We were only having fish and chips so nothing too complicated. They also couldn't possibly do just the children's one first! As he was very fed up after an hour and wanted to be back on beach! But the food was nice, though you can really go that wrong with fish and chips!

This is a fantastic spot to go for lunch. On sunny Summer days it can get quite busy and you may have to wait a while for your food to arrive, but this and the possible wait time is told to you when you order at the counter. The reason is quite simple. All food is freshly prepared and cooked when you order it, so you will get some of the best food you can have. I had the fried Haddock, chips and peas. My wife had Flame grilled chicken breast with chips and salad. The fish and chips filled an oval plate and the chicken was cooked to perfection and displayed well with a very nice side salad and plenty of chips. Although we had to wait which we knew in advance it was definitely worth the wait. The place is very clean and tidy and the staff are all very friendly and well presented too. You also have the choice of dining inside or on one of the many tables outside.

We visited with our 2 children at about 5:30pm on Monday, after reading reviews on here, it's a pretty little thatched building overlooking the sea, with its own putting green. To get the only negative out of the way, the very first thing the lady asked was whether or not we would be planning on ordering coffee at any point as she wanted to start the end-of-day clean downs on the machine, which bearing in mind they don't actually close until 7pm, I thought this was a bit of a bad start. Thankfully it went back up in out opinions very quickly! We ordered 4 soft drinks, 1 tuna deluxe sandwich, 1 crayfish & smoked salmon deluxe sandwich, 1 coronation chicken deluxe sandwich (which were all served with fresh cut chips, large salad and homemade slaw) and 1 Cajun Chicken Salad, which came to just over £45.00. Everyone was really impressed, I personally haven't eaten that much crayfish and smoked salmon in really soft, thick white bread before, and it was really good! Its very clean, clean toilets, and a great place to overlook the sea whilst you enjoy your food. They have a kids menu too, but ours at 9 and 7 opted to choose off the main menu, and very nearly cleared their plates. Unfortunately it was too windy for us to brave the putting green, maybe next time, but there is a small kids play area outside too. All in all, we would definitely return in the future and recommend.

This is our third time at visiting the Thatch and yet again we had the most wonderful meal, served by brilliant people who worked there and felt comfortable and enjoyed every moment.I checked as always we can sit outside and eat with our dogs, thankfully the weather was on our side and was told we could as usual and never once were we made to feel uncomfortable. The food was gorgeous, plentiful and we always order a meal for our dogs (we always take separate plates and cutlery for them) and they made us feel so welcome. There is a lady with very short hair who has been there for quite awhile now (I am not sure if she is the owner) but every time we order from her she has been so helpful and so kind, she is a credit to this establishment. The guy who works there too was equally so.We have already booked to come to stay again in Norfolk next year and as always the Thatch at Lowestoft will be our first point of call, it makes the beginning of our holiday.Thank you all so much and god willing, we will see you all again next year.Love Tracy, Nick, Myrtle, Molly and Douglas. xxx

Today me and my wife decided to have lunch at the Thatch followed by a walk along the beach with our 2 year old and 1 year old triplets. After loading us all in the car, paying for parking and finally arriving, I went in to make a space at a table for our triple pushchair. Bearing in mind we have visited you with the children in the pushchair many times before so I knew space was not a problem. I then went back out to help my wife in with the children. The only tricky part is getting the pushchair past the counter if there is people getting coffee re fills. So we waited until the queue had diminished although we still have to go through sideways. The guy at the counter looked at us in discust and abruptly said " I don't think you can fit down there!" I said I had made a space at a table but he still wasn't happy. It's not so much what he said but more the attitude that came with it! Most people with decent customer service would have probably asked if we needed any help. Anyway we decided to leave rather than look even more humiliated in front of your customers. I think the man realised that we were not happy and came outside to speak to us. We told him of our issues and his rudeness and he basically put it down to health and safety.....I'm a manager of a swimming pool and my wife is a manager of a fitness suite, I'm sure we know plenty about health and safety his excuse I'm afraid was a cop out. We asked for his name to which he spelt out John C O N N O R...another great piece of sarcasm. I can only say how disappointed we both are and what a waste of what could have been a lovely day. Not forgetting the many more times we would have spent there. I just hope anybody with a double pushchair wouldn't get treated the same

The Thatch is a regular haunt for us, especially on a sunny Friday afternoon and the weekends. The selections of wine is good, though a white wine bottle cooler on hot day would be beneficial. Food and drink for all occasions, whether you want just a coffee (free refills) or a cream tea, hot and cold lunch and dinner or just sit back and enjoy the seaviews, and people watching, with a nice bottle of wine, and great company. The staff work hard to ensure you're served as quickly as possible. Lunchtimes on a weekend can be very busy and you may have to wait 20 or so minutes for your food, but the staff will always advise you on any delay - it's nice to be informed.John, is especially welcoming of guests and if you're undecided on what to eat, ask him... he's had to try almost everything on the menu :-)All in all, a good place to spend time eating and drinking.

Popped in with the wife one Sunday morning when we had little to do and a sunny day to enjoy. Hadn't been here for years and it was almost of the radar. As with most places like this I was expecting a place designed to get the Quid's out of the tourist pocket without giving much of an experience in return. Wrong, good service and great food with really well maintained surroundings. Yes, it s a tad pricier than your average greasy spoon but this isn't your average greasy spoon. Happy to give this place the big thumbs up.

Four of us had a working lunch here and found it to be a very pleasant, friendly and well situated little coffee shop/restaurant. The service was accommodating and friendly, the food was delicious and the view was world class. My bacon and brie wrap was probably one the best and tastiest I have ever had and my colleagues spoke as highly of their meals. My orange juice was cold and fresh. The prices were reasonable but good service and good food take your eye off the price. It was a hot day so sitting outside was a given and they have a large grassed putting green which I am determined to return to some time.Lovely place and I will be back

The Thatch is in a stunning location right on the sea front. It is a good place for your average meal for a family. My pork dish was not brilliant, meat tough and soggy potato thing with frozen green beans. A bit expensive for what I had. Then I had to remind the waitress about my dessert, after waiting for ages.

I love this place, its small and cute and the food is so good. I tried one of the specials on the board - a special fried chicken wrap - I expected it to be just that but instead a huge plate of food arrived, the large wrap was accompanied by a huge salad and a pile of chips! Great value for money! Service with a smile too which is always a bonus! Looking forward to visiting again when i'm next in the area!

Very impressed with the cleanliness, service and general appearance of this lovely building. However I was very disappointed on arriving for breakfast on a Sunday and ordering from the menu a vegetarian breakfast only to be told that it was not possible due to the separate cooking equipment costing too much to start up. There were about a dozen customers in at the time. The staff I cannot fault they were efficient and accommodating to my requirements and so polite.

We are regular visitors and we have enjoyed every visit. there is a good menu and a great choice of specials. the cakes always look good but have yet to manage to fit one in. It is very busy during the summer season. I love breakfast on a cold winter morning over looking the sea. We are always made to feel welcome.

The food was nice, not exceptional, but the prices were very reasonable and it was a perfectly pleasant place to eat, with a lovely exterior. There is a counter-based service.

Have been here a few times last year for food and coffee, and again came here for coffee this year. The location is great, nice putting green next to it. Staff always pleasant. Coffee good, free refills too which is a good deal- but cakes so disappointing. They look super, but fail to deliver in a big way. Apple slice- wishy washy bland sludge. Cheesecake- bizarre to say the least, can't tell what it's made of but not the normal style or even the baked version, very synthetic with awful aftertaste. Bakewell tart- tonnes of bland pastry, a millimetre of jam inside, with nonexistent almond taste and boring icing. Cream cakes all with synthetic cream! We left over half of each one. Sort the cakes out by getting a new supplier and its a 5* place.

A warm cosy place on a bitterly cold day with a strong wind. Service was quite slow but the paninis and burger were tasty enough, if slightly expensive.

Had coffee here on a Sunday morning and it was lovely. There is a little kids play area to keep them entertained and plenty of outdoor seating for when the sun is shining... Good coffee and nice muffins/biscuits. Will be visiting again when back in the area

We had an amazing evening here on the 08/11 with 28 of our family members for a surprise 21st birthday meal. From the initial booking the staff have been brilliant, catered for all our needs & looked after everything brilliantly on the night. Big shout out to the chefs! With 28 different meals, not one mistake with the food was made! The food was exceptional, all brought out at the same time, and thoroughly enjoyed by all. Massive thank you to the lovely staff that looked after us on the night, and even though we were the last people there, didn't rush us at all! All the staff were super polite & helpful & are a real credit to the restaurant. We will definitely return for our next family event! Thank you Blue Boar xx

We used to go to this cafe years ago and always enjoyed our experience. Unfortunately today our experience was not a good one. Felt like I spent more time queuing for drinks and then back for food than sitting down and enjoying the experience. The menu seems somewhat downgraded from when we went before (very limited - no JPs or salads etc.). In the counter pastries (sausage rolls and tea cakes) sold out by 11:30. But for us we ordered 2 x bacon, cheese and tomato paninis (£8ea with no salad garnish!). I think the photos show the problems, as one of the guests are in early pregnancy I am really disappointed this grey spoilt meat was served. They didn’t come round and ask how the food was like most restaurants do, so we took the plate up the girl looked confused and took it to the kitchen they offered another one (noting no apologies given) but spoilt meat was enough to put us off and they did complete a refund for the one that was off quickly. Such a shame but to be served off meat is pretty terrible for a well established cafe. Won’t be back, which is such a shame. Note: we are not people to complain so this is a rarity. The shop however is still a lovely visit.

As a stranger to the area, checked the website that shows the shop was open. It wasn't so went to the other shop at the other side of town, where the food was excellent ,the staff friendly and very busy, good luck to them. They deserve it.

Great halloumi burger at this friendly seaside cafe. Sunny Sunday in October. Dog friendly outside. Lots of choice in menu. Very busy which is usually a good sign.

I visited here with my daughter and her family, and it was a treat of a place. The Sunday roast was delicious and the Yorkshires to die for. The staff were attentive and friendly. The puddings were glorious. Will definitely return.
