My wife and I had afternoon tea in the billiard room and thoroughly enjoyed it. The waiter Jonathan was really pleasant and helpful. The classical background music added to the atmosphere. Well done.

So disappointing. Booked for afternoon tea . This included access to the house which we toured beforehand and found quite fascinating and delightful. Tea room however is "below stairs" . After following a maze of dark corridors we arrived at what looked like a converted store room with a handful of people drinking coffee from paper cups. After the opulence of upstairs it was so austere and unwelcoming. We were ushered into the "billiard room" for the tea service. This room was even worse. The "view" was of a stone wall; no curtains or carpets; wooden chairs without cushions; it was reminiscent of a 1950s seaside BB dining room without the coloured tablecloths. There was some dreary harpsichord music on the audio system, presumably to remind us we were in a stately home. The waiter did bring us some chairs with padded seats, which helped a bit but as there was only one other couple in the room the atmosphere was dire. Definitely not somewhere you would want to linger. The food was OK, although nothing marvellous. We had pre-booked and I suspect it had been prepared quite a bit earlier as the sandwiches were quite dry. I expect when the weather is better and you can sit outside on the terrace it might be worthwhile, but don't go in the Winter, or Spring, or Autumn.

Coffee was okay. Used to be a barista and the Cappuccino was watery and lukewarm, no foam and milk over steamed. Only a couple of cakes to choose from and no indication of prices anywhere. Staff didn’t smile, they didn’t look like they wanted to be there. The lady in the central room looking over the gardens was polite and friendly in contrast. Put a damper on an otherwise lovely walk around the gardens and house.

We arrived at 11:30am for coffee. Tables and chairs on the terrace overlooking the parterre garden beautiful. Went into the Terrace tearoom to find 3 members of staff discussing last nights dates or television. Told it is table service, went and found a seat asked for 2 capachino, we were never offered a menu or anything. Coffee arrived, had to ask for sugar? What kind of circus are they running? When we came to pay the till contained 2 £1 coins, the rest of the change was in 20p pieces. Bear in mind this “cafe” opens at 11:00am. When we sat down there were 2 other couples. Forward planning is not rocket science. There are 3. Sets of steps to the terrace, 1 sight says wait here to be seated, no staff to seat you just a very lonely sign. This should be the best place for coffee in Harewood House as it is it is a disgrace and a prime of example of how not to run a cafe! I will return when hell freezes over!

A great example of how not to run a tea room. Staff were young and friendly but no one was in charge. We were shown to our table, ordered 2 G&Ts, one salmon sandwich and one beef. G&Ts arrived. Over half an hour later no sign of the sandwiches. Could tell that other tables were not being served either. Went in to check what was happening and were told that there was no creme fresh for the salmon. So we switched to two beef sandwiches. If we hadn't chased, I have a feeling we would still have been sitting there as there was zero communication. When the sandwiches finally arrived another 15 minutes later (that is 45 minutes for sandwiches!) they were uninspiring - just a 4" long section of a bought French stick with a couple of slices of pre-sliced beef inside and a few salad leaves alongside. I asked for salt and pepper to try to get some taste but was told that they didn't have any... No excuse about being busy as there was only one other table occupied when we sat down. But others had to wait ages to be seated even though there were plenty of empty tables. Paying the bill was a fiasco as well with a long queue and seemingly no idea of what anyone had ordered. Very expensive as well. Such a missed opportunity as the location is wonderful. Avoid...

The staff are friendly and efficient. They have been wearing masks even before it became compulsory this week. Sitting on the Terrace, with Red Kites flying overhead and geese honking down by the lake makes for a nice afternoon. It is also nice to have a mini bottle of wine a little later, but the Terrace shuts a 4.00 pm.

A wet day so everyone was in the small inside cafe. Poor waitress had to serve. Get drinks, clear tables, and man the till! Poor girl. Despite, she coped well. Good well filled sandwiches. Chocolate run of the mill but with flake and cream. Other drinks ok. Room clean if cramped.

Outside tables have a wonderful view of the gardens but when we visited on a VERY hot day, insufficient umbrellas/shade outside so forced to sit inside a rather cramped area. Well filed but quite pricey sandwiches. Scone cream and jam tasty. Only one young man serving who had to do everything from preparing T&C, collecting plates - and payments! There is another food location at the Courtyard beyond but we hadn't realised that when we ended our tour of the House.

Went for the first time for my son's birthday to give him a treat. The atmosphere was the first ick, sadly. Using outdated fabrics and an odd table and booth layout. And during a time they should have been busy, we were one of only a few. For much of our time, we were alone. Their cold stone for the ice cream was severely broken, and it looked like it was filthy, or sludge, coming out from under it. Only positive for the atmosphere is the display of all the sweets. They did look really good. Tables had empty dishes on them while the girls in the back didn't look very busy. The one was polite and apologetic, and didn't seem to know much about what was available or not. The other was quiet. For food....sub-par. Taste was alright, brownies for the fondue were really good aside from being a bit old/dry on the edges. They were out of half of the things we asked for. Many of the drinks, including OJ, were missing. We had to go to their cooler ourselves to see what they had, which wasn't much. Same when ordering, I ended up not getting anything for myself and had to modify my son's chocolate fondue order because they didn't have enough cookies for the order. This place has potential. If they modernized it, make it more sleek and professional to match the style of the menu, deep cleaned, updated their equipment, and actually trained their staff, and had better product management....this place could be a hot spot easily.

We’ve just been to the art gallery café for lunch we won’t be going back. They sell scones but they’ve run out of jam What kind of business can’t even organise going to the shop and getting a pot of jam. Leeds city council should be ashamed of themselves.
