The Calverley Arms in Leeds

Arrived before other family so had a drink at bar , one lager not available on fraught although barman didn’t realise till told. Also kept talking to his colleague every time he asked us something so not listening. Went through for dinner, first waitress nice enough and welcoming , starters came after a wait (but not too long) problem with one , missing an ingredient . Mushrooms lukewarm and the toast was soggy . Problems started with mains MASSIVE wait , 2 steaks ordered and 2 different skewers . Skewers arrived , and was just that ! Lamb skewer 5 small pieces of dry lamb and nothing else . Steaks looked ok, had to find a member of staff to find out why we hadn’t got chips, were brought out after a wait , but no salad or side as told on menu. Couldn’t be bothered to wait again for this so had 5 small pieces of lamb and approx 8 chips for £18?!asked for a refund due to no sides , 1 skewer was taken off menu . Drinks ordered while eating came in dribs and drabs , never were all 4 drinks brought together . Had to ask for bill as declined dessert , apologies from the original waitress , who advised she wasn’t sure what happened. Then I presume a lady who was in charge came to apologise . My in-laws had booked a 2 night stay (not cheap) and thankfully their stay went ok, and they said breakfast was much better . But when a dining bill for 4 with some drinks isn’t far off £200 you expect better . Keep giving the calverley arms a chance every so often, but no more I’m afraid . Such a shame but it needs a serious shake up and a new chef

Éramos 7 de nosotros aquí para mi madre 89 cumpleaños, todos pensamos que la comida era basura y caro para lo que era, esperamos 45 minutos para que llegara y cuando lo hizo era tibia, yo tenía un plato de pollo que era más de £ 18 y ni siquiera un pedazo de pechuga de pollo, mi marido tenía pescado y patatas fritas pan desmigado no rebozado, 2 tenían sándwiches que wernt bueno. Luke cafés calientes incluso después de pedir uno más caliente! El personal era lo suficientemente agradable, pero la espera para la comida no era grande o agradable cuando llegó, con miedo de que estropeó nuestro cumpleaños de mamás.

Este lugar ha mejorado enormemente desde mi última visita que fue hace un par de años. La razón por la que no hemos vuelto antes fue porque era malo pero ya no. Todo el ambiente del lugar es mucho mejor , se sentía acogedor , el personal era increíble , todo amable y profesional. La comida era genial también. La brocheta de pollo estaba deliciosa, la carne estaba húmeda y tierna y la ensalada feta que la acompañaba era crujiente y fresca. El único consejo que yo diría es advertir a los clientes lo caliente que está la brocheta de metal - ¡ay! Hacía calor cuando intentamos recogerlo. Una visita muy agradable - bien hecho!

Estuve aquí un par de veces recientemente con nuestro perro y disfrutamos de un par de copas de vino junto al fuego y tuvimos los aperitivos de 3 bares por 12 libras. Bonito ambiente y la relación calidad-precio para los aperitivos del bar es genial muy sabroso e ideal si solo quieres algo exigente antes de tener su sábado por la noche para llevar.

El trío del domingo fue fantástico y fish n chips genial. Millie, nuestro servidor era burbujeante y amigable mientras que también era eficiente.

Great location just outside Leeds. Ideal for business trips. Hotel looks really good, outdoor seating is a big plus if the weather holds

Very pleasant. Lots of outdoor seating. First went seven years ago and keep going back. Great location away from busy roads. Large gardens. Was served by Lilly last night (18 April 2024) and she was brilliant. And served by Olivia this evening (18 Sep 2024) who was polite, helpful, and a great waitress. Food is usually good. The decor and feel is really great.

Food reasonable standard and price. Waitress service cheerful and helpful but the kitchen has been spectacularly slow for at least the last 12 months: last year we waited 2 hours for food we'd pre-ordered the week before! (With a hungry 3 year old in tow too!)

Excellent meal with colleagues at the end of a very productive day. Service was great too. Delivered with a beaming smile each time the staff approached our table.

Attended for a meal with a friend, been many times before. Food fabulous, I do have a favourite... brisket sandwich amazing. Staff friendly and food is not only fabulous it's well priced too. See you again soon.

Dog friendly pub with delicious food which can be enjoyed as a stop off on one of the many walking routes around on the Calverley millenium way or a little detour from the Leeds-Liverpool canal towpath

We regularly go to the Calverley arms and have always had a great experience. On this occasion we went for my mum’s 70th and were served by Lilly who was so lovely. She’s served us a few times and is always happy and chatty, nothing is too much trouble for her. Thank you xx

Amazing!!! Can’t say enough about Jo, our server!! She was very attentive every morning and on top of my many allergies. She gave us great suggestions and even helped us find places to go for gifts for family!!! Thanks Jo!!! 🩷. The breakfasts were delicious too thanks to Lewis and the other Chefs!! From Eggs Benedict to Porridge to Buttermilk Pancakes with bacon and syrup!! They fueled us for a day of sightseeing and visiting family!!! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!!!!

Great little spot. Friendly staff. Nice food. Clean spacious room. However, the mobile signal inside the property is very poor, limiting me to carrying out any business from the hotel. I had to go outside to make calls.

Nice place. One of the best beer gardens you'll find. But, 2 pints and a soda came to £21.40. Ouch! Quality however is great.

Stayed for two nights at the Inkeepers lodge, had two amazing meals each evening especially the Prawn & Morrocan skewers! Very friendly staff. Thank you for making it an enjoyable stay!

Dined on a very busy Saturday lunchtime. Our waitress Lilly was wonderful. So helpful and friendly. The chefs on duty were Kai, Danny and Amber. The food was really good. One of the nicest meals I’ve had there in a while.

Lilly gave us great service as we celebrated a friend’s birthday at The Calverley Arms today. She made sure we were served drinks quickly then allowed us time to select our food options. After the meal she gave us plenty of time to chat. Such a great venue for celebrations, we’ve booked it again.

Good location, nice interior and lovely grounds. Good for a coffee on a nice day seated outside, we have done this a number of times. Went for a meal… While the team members are quite pleasant, they seemed to be quite understaffed at time of our visit. This service was very slow… We are quite patient and not in a rush, but it was really quite drawn out. The food was mediocre; not particularly bad (with nothing directly to point out) but certainly not good. While overall everything was fine, it was expensive for what it was and they really need to work on the service times. Unfortunately, don’t believe we will be returning for a meal.

Decided to go for a Sunday roast at last minute and found availability here, have eaten here before but not for Sunday lunch. We arrived and were greeted by staff and seated quickly, within 5 minutes our food and drink order was taken by Dan who was lovely, very helpful and friendly! Between us we had the sirloin of beef roast and the rump of lamb plus a side of bacon wrapped stuffing, both meals were delicious and plentiful, great value for money! Food came very promptly also and all staff were so smiley and couldn’t do enough! Really recommend and look forward to visiting again soon 😊

Sunday lunch wasn't up to usual standard

Calverley Arms is a nice pub/restaurant with good parking and gardens.Inside good layout and decor and atmosphere. Dog friendly in bar area. Had nice Sunday lunch. Minor criticisms being cutlery is blunt as we all had diffulculty cutting broccoli and roast potatoes and lamb. Also very noisy coffee machine and veg only luke warm. Had several no sunday lunch meals there, all of which were fine.

The staff were very pleasant and attentive. The food was good but as.me and my friend are both elderly im afraid the portions were too big. Consequently we were both overfaced and wasted some of the food Many places offer smaller meals these days, perhaps it is something you could look into.

As always, it's a joy to come into this comfortable restaurant and get seated straight away, you have to wait awhile for your food,but you will not be disappointed, service is patchy but they're busy, take your time there's no rush, and have a good old relaxing visit, prices are very good..

Amber was brilliant for us. She was very helpful with the wine to compliment the food. Danny and Joe cooked the food to perfection. Overall excellent service. We are always here and this is why we return frequently.

Most expensive drinks we have ever had not a happy bunny

I came to Calverley arms for my wedding reception meal. Honestly the staff went above and beyond for us all to ensure everything was just perfect. The food was to die for the chef even came out to see us. What a lovely pub and great staff. Thank you for making my day so special.

We had such a lovely meal and was looked after by Alice superbly. Alice was attentive but not overbearing and served us with a smile. The food was delicious and plenty of it. Also the manager was a very friendly lady who came to chat us. You have wonderful team members who make you feel more than welcome which is a trait sadly lacking in some restaurants of late. Can’t wait to come back !

We stayed here for a week, we had Jo as a waitress for breakfast Kai and Lewis as the chefs for the week. The food was lovely, everyone is really friendly and helpful

We went after a funeral and they allowed us to book out a corner of the room. They put tea and coffee on for us, which they didn’t need to! Jo was amazing! She was so kind and accommodating! She even came to see us before she finished her shift and said it was lovely to meet us and that she wished us well.

My son and I stayed for one night. What a lovely find. We would definitely come again The Manager on Sunday afternoon 4/8 was extremely helpful despite the dining and bar areas being very busy. Lovely welcome from her and she checked later to ensure that our room was satisfactory. Food was lovely with an excellent selection. Welcomed by Jo for our breakfast. She was friendly and helpful and provided excellent service. Even the cleaner Christine was super friendly. Everywhere spotless after a busy night and everyone super friendly Room was a twin and really comfortable, clean and spacious. Good value for money and late check out at 12.00 was beneficial us. I would definitely stay here again and would use this jotel when flying out of Leeds Bradford. Thank you for a wonderful derful stay. Joyce Carr

Excellent food, nice surroundings. Just had to wait a bit between starters and mains, but all in all, it was very good.

Went in for Sunday lunch with family. Food was excellent as always. I had the pie of the day which was lovely and tasty. Millie served us today. She was great. Pleasant and helpful, always had a smile on her face and was also quite chatty which is always nice.

Millie was a fantastic server- really helpful and attentive. The calamari and the pate were lovely starters. We enjoyed the trio of meat Sunday lunch. The lamb rump was a little tough/ chewy but flavours were good. The cauliflower cheese was a miss for us as the breadcrumbs on top were very hard and it was not very warm. The crumble for dessert was delicious. Overall we did really enjoy the meal. Venue was lovely too!

Fantastic Sunday lunch, big portion sizes and great atmosphere

My best friend and I try to go for our regular lunch together when Jo is working because she always looks after us in a friendly and professional way which we both really appreciate. The food is consistently good and there is always a very welcoming atmosphere, I love the lit candles even during the day sometimes. We always look forward to our lunch at The Calverley Arms and most of it is down to the lovely service we receive. Thank you Jo for making our visits that bit more special.

I like this place very much,, I love to go here a few times I year, its very cozy in the winter and lovely to sit ou in the summer, it's very clean and tidy, and f has a great menu, and very nice and helpful staff, we who usually help me finding a seat and getting me comfy,,, as I'm in a wheelchair and they make sure I'm OK. Thee is plenty of, room for me in my wheelchair and it's very accessible, they have a lot parking right outside the door, so it's very easy to get in. They aldo have toilets in that's accessable. And they don't rush you like some places do,.h All in all, I it's a lovely place to come and eat and have a few drinks Thank you all the lovely staff that works here.,

I was a guest at a wake here on Tuesday, and my expectation were already set quite high, sadly I was very disappointed, firstly the bar service fell short, as new staff appeared to have not been fully trained, and made silly mistakes with my initial order, and secondly the catering for the buffet was nothing short of appalling! … 40 guests at £15,95 per head (£638.00) was an absolute joke, no thought or consideration was given to the food that was pre-ordered ordered weeks ahead, it literally looked like it was a case of, “we really don’t care, but we will throw something on plates for you” … and what you did attempt to rustle up, was a very poor effort to say the least, staff were also few and far between, to the point where guests were having to clear their own tables !! ….. Really ??? This is not the standard or the service I expected at all.

ordered the meal using the webpage, ordered 2 drinks and two meals. Took 30 mins for the drinks to come out and food 20mins after the drinks. Tables outside were a mess. Seems a premium to eat here, which is great as nice surroundings etc, but not when the place looks messy and waiting for ages for food/drinks The funny thing about it is that it asks for a tip when you order, which I did. If I knew service was poor I wouldnt have.

Superb! Spent two nights here this weekend having travelled from South Wales to attend a gig in Kirkstall Abbey. So glad we booked this place! The hotel grounds are absolutely beautiful and hotel/bar interior stunning! The room was one of the best we've stayed in (room 7).. bathroom enormous with two sinks and a divine waterfall shower. Had two cracking nights sleep and the housekeeping girls were fab, replenishing whatever we needed! The staff are a huge credit to the manager Catherine, who herself was extremely lovely and very friendly! Big shout out to two of the bar girls Lucy & Lily. So friendly! And the food/drinks... yes the reviews stating about the slow service are correct, however, everything else makes up for it! Good beer, fab choice and then there's the food... oh my!! We ate on the first evening and then breakfast in the morning. The Full English was hands down the best I have ever tasted! Top quality! Despite the 5/6 hrs journey, would happily come again and we plan to! Thanks for such a wonderful stay x

I travel a great deal in and around West Yorkshire and the Calverly Arms is by far my favourite. The staff are friendly and clearly dedicated to what they do. I usually sit outside to eat, as it has one of the biggest and best beer gardens of any pub in the area. I love how dog friendly they are too, both inside and outside the pub. I’m intending to book my birthday celebration there too, the food’s spot on and they have different areas to book out for big groups. 100% recommend!

It was a nice place but it took an age to get served and even longer for the food to arrive and it wasn't exactly busy!

It seemed a poorly stocked bar. No regular tonic and the bar staff weren’t aware of the stock they had in and lacked knowledge around it. Also very expensive! £9.90 for a glass of wine.

Nice place, good service but the food slightly less than bang average. Can't say I'm going to be hurrying back anytime soon.

The food was ok apart from the bloomer bread that was very doughy and we all left that. The staff were very efficient and professional and although it was a very quiet Monday lunchtime, it was a relaxing atmosphere .

We spent three nights at the Calverley Arms, including breakfast and evening meals. The service was excellent, staff were lovely, and the food was superb.

Lilly our server was extremely helpful as both my daughter and I are coeliac. The food was delicious as cooked by Adam & Michelle. We will definitely be back.

The best pad tai noodles, need to try, the staff not really smile or friendly,went I'm there is only 2 table in the restaurant, probably not busy time,would go again for pad tai noodles

Good food but overpriced and took an eternity to arrive, nice atmosphere but service is a joke - staff miserable and all doing multiple jobs, likely overworked and other than one server didn't seem to care about the customer experience. Camembert sharing starter at £15 was small and only had 5 tiny slices of bread, asked for more and chased multiple times came about 25 mins later when it was cold. Slowest service I've experienced in a long time, both eating at the restaurant and waiting in a queue at the bar for a drink ,(but quicker than waiting for the server at the table). Took 30 mins to bring a few scoops of ice cream for the kids 🤣 Was in the restaurant about 3 hours for a meal that should have been about half that anywhere else. Not good 🫣

Not good 👎 No signature burger ? It's a signature dish how can you not have that ? It's like offering a 'chef's special' but then say 'sorry the chef is not here' Plus the service was colder than the Arctic. ✋️✋️ But of course it depends on your waiter so I cannot hold that against the pub. Dissapointed. Don't recommend 👎 Didn't even want to order and eat anything so I just left. Walking. Alone. Sad. And hungry.

Comfortable and clean accommodation, great restaurant, but more than anything, outstanding staff, with a special word of thanks to Jo and Christine.

You are always greeted by happy smiling staff. Our visit was for Sunday Lunch and We were served by the lovely Millie who was helpful and gladly passed thd time of day with us. The Sunday lunch is not for someone with a small appetite. I went for the slow cooked belly pork. A good size piece of belly pork a long with a yorkshire pudding, garlic & herb roast potatoes, thyme roasted Carrots, glazed parsnips and greens filled the plate. Everything was hot and cooked to perfection. My other half went for the Sirloin of Beef. His came with 4 large slices of beef as well as all the other stuff mentioned. We were not rushed, so by the time Millie came to see if we wanted dessert we had space to treat ourselves. Lots of delicious dishes to choose from. It was relatively quiet when we arrived, but by the time we left it was very busy. Hats off to the chefs Amber & Joe for the wonderful food today and to Millie for taking the time to chat even though she was busy serving other tables. We will be back.

We booked for a Saturday early evening meal. Service was great. Location is good. The food really not that good and quite dissapointing especially as the prices imply good quality. At a different pub locally we have eaten for much less for better quality of food. The burger was ok. Although location is good and we did not sit outside, there could be better facilities for kids on the vast grounds and sitting outside. Some slides and basic playground would make the pub more family orientated.

A charming restaurant with lovely decor and great outside space for eating and drinking. The menu has a very good choice and definitely something for everyone. We were a party of 4 and each of us had something different, all dishes were well presented and the food tasted amazing and cooked to perfection. This was my first visit, but won’t be my last. Service was excellent and all staff were friendly. I definitely need to go back again soon.

First time visiting here. First thing I noticed was a lovely, outdoor garden and seating area. We ate inside, which was also a nice space with lots of room. Food was delicious. Service was good. Prices were reasonable. Would like to return and I recommend to others.

We stayed in room 6 which was a nice size and basically clean apart from a few hairs on the window cill. The beds were comfortable and we slept well until 7.30 when a member of staff started banging and crashing about in the small yard not far below our window. When I looked out to see what was going on the man in question seemed to be deliberately slamming things down as if he was actually trying to make as much noise as possible. Fortunately this didn't happen on subsequent mornings. We liked the fact that extra tea, coffee and milk was available in the drawers in the corridor but unfortunately stocks were not replenished. We knew that we would be returning late when we went out on Sunday evening and would want a coffee on our return so I went to get some more milk as we had run out. There was no milk in the drawer so as we went out I asked the young lady behind the bar if she could arrange for some milk to be put in our room or for the drawer to be filled up. Neither happened so we were unable to have a drink when we got back. There was a problem with the shower as the lever to switch over to the rainfall head didn't work at all and the hose going to the other fitting had a major leak so most of the water sprayed out instead of coming out of the shower head. Also, the extractor fan didn't work, one light didn't work, the shelf above the sink appeared to be missing and water constantly flowed into the toilet. The T.V. didn't work properly and kept losing the signal. I e-mailed the hotel after our stay to make them aware of these issues as this would give them the opportunity to take steps to rectify things for future guests. I didn't receive a reply. Due to these issues I wouldn't stay there again. On a positive note the chambermaids and breakfast staff that we met were friendly, efficient and helpful.

Over priced and food average. Might as well go to a sizzlers pub or one of the other brands

Disappointing meal with friendly but very slow service. We actually felt quite sorry for our waitress as right from the off she was saying “sorry “. Firstly there were many items not available from the menu, food took a long time to arrive even though restaurant wasn’t particularly busy, 2 meals arrived but it was more than 5 mins before the other 2 plates arrived, meals were below average, overcooked/dry and not very hot. We were asked if we would like desserts and a menu was brought to the table but 30mins later no one had been to take the order. When the apologising waitresses did arrive we had waited too long and asked for our bill. Funnily enough that arrived immediately accompanied by the card machine.

Great room, lovely service and a spectacular breakfast! The sliw cooked brisket of beef was so good. I know, beef for breakfast... but it is a joy!
