The George in Leeds

We had a great experience when we recently visited, we were welcomed and looked after well. We were very pleased with the choice of food and the quality. Thank you for making us welcome and we will be back again soon

Never been to this place before , I went fir a script reading downstairs. The manager/ owner man was so kind and sweet thoughtful, good convocation . I highly recommend this place for history the pleasant company and the chatty kind staff .

The drinks were reasonably priced and nice at the establishment. The whole place needs a revamp though as very dirty in places and carpet loose from the stairs.

I didn't stay at the hotel so I could t comment on any of the rooms. However I did have my wedding reception in the bar. Nathan was the bar staff and wow how great is he. Lots of conversation lovely and kind. Stuck to covid rules and guidelines but still made sure our evening was as wonderful as it could be. Was attentive and made sure we had everything needed. Allowed us to control what music we had and didn't complain at us once. The bar was lovely was decorated perfectly for us before hand. Let us take our own buffet and just made our evening the best experience. If you're just wanting a quiet casual drink or somewhere to go on a night out, are having a function and just want a nice drink I would highly recommend this place. Nathan is great and will do his best tk meet your needs honestly the best time I've had and not just because it was our wedding but because of wnathan and the George thank you so much!!

The toilets were gross and I told the guy behind the bar, who turns out is the manager, but he was run off his feet so didn't get to replace the toilet roll for a long time (2 toilet trips) because people kept coming to the bar. Maybe get another member of staff? Nathan was so accommodating, lovely and apologetic but needs an assistant!

*BAR REVIEW ONLY* Gone downhill massively in recent years. Beer averagely priced for the centre of Leeds, spirits perhaps a bit too pricey. Bar staff usually friendly, but can be overwhelmed if there is a sudden influx of customers. Used to be able to book a bar downstairs for functions which was very good, but unsure if this is still possible as the pub has changed hands in recent years.

During the pandemic going on we were supposed to stay on the 30th of this month but we now can't go and they refuse to give us a refund no doubt we will be looking for something else to stay in Leeds for the next visit

It's nothing fancy. It's a couple dozen bunk beds and a unisex bathing hall on the second floor of a pub. It's cramped, slapdash, and eclectic. But I loved it. I felt safe, and I met so many personalities with so many great stories to tell. If you're a weary traveler looking for a drink, a hot shower, and a place to crash, who would prefer wholesome conversation over privacy, I'd recommend this hostel.

I had a lovely stay at The George Hotel. The people who work there are super friendly and accommodating, the prices are amazing given the standard of the rooms (I haven't seen them all but the room I was in was lovely, very comfortable and kept warm all night) and the bar downstairs has a great atmosphere, it's the perfect place for a drink before a night out or just somewhere to relax after a long day out. The hotel a beautiful old building with lots of original features and artwork which adds to the feel of the place. I will definitely come back here when I visit Leeds as you can be sure of a warm welcome and a very comfortable night.

My first hostel, expect what you expect from a hostel. Really nice people. Shower, WiFi, light english breakfast, totally awesome! Slept here better than in any hotel I stayed. Really enjoyed it 💖

Nuevo propietario desagradable, grosero y ofensivo. Cerveza turbia y con sabor a vinagre. Se le negó un cambio / reembolso y el propietario se volvió abusivo, así que nos fuimos.

Tuve mi 40.a fiesta de cumpleaños en este pub hace 15 años, y parece que no ha cambiado mucho desde entonces. Llamé un miércoles por la tarde después de una visita al hospital cercano. Yo era uno de los dos clientes. Se estaba tocando música rock, no en voz alta pero no a mi gusto. Lamentablemente creo que necesita una reforma. No puedo decir que me apresuraría a regresar.

Nice stay for short duration. Location is good. Lack of privacy though as there are open dorm beds and locker to keep any luggage is far from rooms. Rest all good.

受付はバーでするお。10人部屋に泊まったけど部屋ちょっと寒かったお。ぼくは暖房器具の近くのベッドだったので寝る時は問題無かったお。キッチンやダイニングなんかは無いお。WiFiは早くて快適だお。シャワーはヘッドが取り外し出来てしかも暖かいお湯が出るお。でも一定時間経つと省電力のためかライトが消えるお。暗いお(＾ω＾;)

For once in my life I was lost for words. Expect the worse and you'll still be extremely shocked. Massive difference in hotel and hostel, big difference in continental breakfast and a slice of toast. States TV bath or shower and toilet in room, theres in actual fact a bed a bunk bed and a radiator that don't work. Damp rooms, and shared unisex showers and toilets. Staff seem nice but I wanted a safe place to stay for the night not a friend. Won't be staying again. To say I was out of my comfort zone would be a understatement. Detol bath and the ready. No locks on the doors, very old and run down place, walls tissue paper thin. I'm raiting as 1 because there's no lower option.

Found myself stranded in Leeds and got a room here 10 minutes before lockup. Very reasonable price, room was spacious, clean and bed was comfortable, staff were very polite and cheerful. Breakfast a bit anaemic but free. Seemed LGBT friendly. Would definitely recommend!

Exactly as advertised on the website, lovely and friendly owners. I stayed here over the weekend with 8 friends and it was a perfect location with good sized clean room.

This was a good pub in the past, traditional ales and good atmosphere - clearly lost its way. Poor beer selection and no hand-pulled? In these times and in such a traditional looking pub. Guinness off. Bloke behind the bar was polite. Somebody rescue it

Would prefer to stay in a camping..dirty (see photo as an example), very basic breakfast, noisy, too warm and uncomfortable beds.

Great exactly what I needed for my stay facilities were clean and was extremely easy to find and get to. Would definitely recommend if you are looking for a place to stop in Leeds

I've met a lot of good people in here and the hosts made me feel like in home. Kind regards to the staff!! It's very cozy and central.

I stayed there for some days and definitely would choose it one more time if I ever visit Leeds again. The location is great (it's pretty easy to go everywhere around the city centre walking from there), the rooms are nice and the staff is really friendly and helpful.

Poor. No atmosphere. Toilets ether not working or filthy! No music!

I have never stayed at a backpackers b4 so thought I'd stay there over #leedscarnival2019 I went to Thoresby High School for Girls on Gt George St and this was part of my #childhoodmemorylane

Epic perfect location. Bargain no thrills and Julian the bar man was a legend.

Stayed twice. All wonderful staff apart from the manager. Absolute nightmare. Double booked and very rude.

Solo estuve una noche, pero el personal fue amable a más no poder, llegué antes de la hora del check-in pero me dejó entrar a la habitación para dejar mis cosas. La localización excelente para ir a salas de conciertos y estar por leeds. El único problema que tuve fue con el código para entrar a la habitación, que me tenían que abrir los demás huéspedes porque no funcionaba la cerradura.

Unfortunately we had an extremely bad experience, first of all got directed to the wrong room in which we found a girl sleeping, this straight away is appalling. Not only for us but for the safety of the young girl sleeping!! We eventually got our room and found that the sink was broken, there was holes in the walls and this should have all been apparent when looking at the door numbers.... they were little pieces of paper sellotaped on. I don’t have the option to put no stars so had to put one, but this is by far the worst hostel I have ever stayed in... avoid.

Stayed here whilst working away. Exactly as expected cheap accomadation in a city centre, only issue is bar onsite closes early and the staff try rush you out.

Clean place to crash for a night. Nothing fancy but has all you need for when you're wasted and need somewhere to sleep.

Basic, but it is cheapest around so to be expected. Nearly didn't get in as I arrived at 2155 (check in until 2200), and the guy was about to leave.

One of the best Place to live in city center, for single or with family traveler, staff was nice, provide neat and clean environment, provide complimentary breakfast also... Even they have Bar as well....

Hola, debo ir al george de leeds con mis 3 amigos que se hospedan en la habitación con cama doble de lujo. ¿Hay un baño en la habitación? Si no son ellos uno en el mismo piso? Solo se cambiarán y tomarán bebidas antes de salir por la noche y en algún lugar para dormir y refrescarnos por la mañana.

Very poor slow service. Staff seemed totally out of their depth. Ran out of larger and didn't know what a shandy is.

Its dodgy hotel. Booked this place on 2nd of February 2019 and rang for a late check in but when i arrived at the hotel no one open the door despite calling a hundred of times. Paid my money but didnt get any thing back from them . They are scamers. Don't book here they take your money .

From the moment I arrived, Steve was exceptionally nice and welcoming. The George is in a fantastic location with many shops and attractions only a short walk away. The George was clean and quiet and I highly recommend to anyone looking for a place to stay in Leeds.

Was charged twice for my stay. Called and Emailed multiple times but all I was told was “can you come back to Leeds to collect the payment” two days later. Emailed again twice and have been ignored ever since. Kerry was really friendly Not a fan of paying double the amount for one night stay.

All of the workers are illegally hired and don't pay tax the entire business is a mess don't drink there it's unclean with a massive fly problem

Great place to stay but you pay for what you get. Do not book through another site ring them I got double charged. No evening food worth mentioning but the customer service was brilliant, friendly and helpful.

Gone downhill. Noisy drunks, inexperienced bar staff. Will go elsewhere next time.

Great pub with friendly down to earth townfolk

An experience to say the least!...

I don't know what I was thinking about when I booked this hostel. It is a massive dump: the room stinks, bed sheets don't seem to be clean, rooms are cold (heaters don't work), the floor is sticky, the carpet is dirty, bathrooms without paper rolls. When I arrived there was nobody to attend and the doorbell didn't work, so I had to phone the owner. I booked a private room for 280GBP, 5 nights, but when I arrived the owner gave me another one which was cheaper (230GBP), but at the end I was charged for both (280 + 230 GBP). They told me that I would be refunded but I am still waiting after one month. I paid 230GBP, and later they automatically charged me 280GBP to my credit card. And a month has already passed. The room was the saddest thing I've ever seen: it consisted in a 8 m2 with one bed, a small mirror, a litter and a stinky carpet. No chairs, no wardobe or a small table, no towels. Internet signal in the room was very very weak. The breakfast was also very sad: a pot of Nutella and Butter that seemed to be opened 3 weeks ago, cutlery wasn't even clean, and the less I say about the cereals the better. I ended up buying my own food in a supermarket in order to have some decent breakfast.

The beer was sour tasting. Washing and bedding piled up in the bar! I won't be returning.👎

After travelling from Glasgow looking for a decent place to stay I was informed of a well affordable place to stay, upon arrival I was greeted by the host (Charlotte) who was easily one of the nicest people to meet in Leeds, kind, caring, and made my stay comfortable! Thank you very much!

Well, where to start, the delights of this place were so overwhelming, broken glass window in the room for free air ventilation? you got it , un- hoovered floor? you got it, no mirrors or facilities in the room, you got it (just the bed and plastic rubber plant and dirty wall paper!), steep three flights of stairs to your room, you got it, shared male and female shower/toilet facilites you got it, wash your face to the delights of a young man straining on the neighbouring toilet?, again you got it! belta, working showers? don't be silly !! (they'd certainly never seen flash/cilit bang!) and then the power seems to cut off on the first floor after a certain time ! There is "ironing facilities"? yep, on the smoke and B.O stenched landing! Proprietor looked better to be selling the Big Issue, as scruffy wasn't the word And don't even get me started on the breakfast, self service of clear cookie jars of cereal (contents of a hoover bag more like) and pick the bread out of the Warburtons bag yourself ! and make your own tea, kettle was literally from the kitchen and dirty, (made Dot Cottons Kitchen in Eastenders look like the Hilton!) We quickly scarpered down to the local Wetherspoons as we couldnt trust we'd come home alive to tell the tale if we consumed any food on the premises. so if your a refugee/asylum seeker/ student with no morals/cleanliness standards, then bingo this is your jackpot perfect stay Very mis-sold on the website of "lovely hotel" After a few days no doubt the proprietor will take this down off the site, ( if they know how to get it done that is !!) But I'm a not a bakery, I don't sugarcoat s---

Absolutely horrendous, “hotel” doesn’t even let you know it’s a hostel, on all information it says the word hotel. Me and friends turned up all the way from Bolton, looking forward to a girls night out. There was a stranger in the room, shared uni sex toilets, the room hadn’t been cleaned, there was no sheets on one of the beds. We did not feel safe leaving our belongings in there. When we was getting shown to “our” room the lady had to appologie for the mess as there wasn’t enough staff on to clean the room!!!!! How dare any place like this deserve to even have bedrooms, health and safety would have a field day! How is this place even allowed to state it’s a hotel when it is far from the word hotel. There’s no reception, you walk into a smelly pub with stale food sat out that’s probably been there for days, you don’t even get given keys, the side door to the pub/HOSTEL was left open all night. I just can’t believe this place is advertised on booking.com as a hotel and not a hostel which is obviously very misleading to anyone not from around Leeds. As soon as we saw the state of the room we walked straight out and went back home to Bolton. However the two female staff was very friendly, helped us find a car park etc.

Worked in Selby for 8 months. The George proved to be a very welcoming establishment with genuinely lovely staff. It is a place worth visiting, the food is lovely as well.

Brilliant staff and some great deals on food and drink. Good outdoor area as well.

Good beer, a bit expensive but efficient friendly staff

Meals were typical pub fare, however they were freshly made and tasty. Very surprised that the food was not stodgy and mediocre. The price was quite cheap, and the food was good. Loved the friendly staff and the great variety of music being played.

Loved our meal at The George yesterday in Leeds,tasty,good service, just one thing niggled me,there was five in our party and four of us had the offer 2 starters and 2 mains for a set price you could also have drinks in this but although one of us wanted a beer and one wanted a mocktail we was told that it had to be 2 of the same yet on our food order we could have 2 different things just couldn't see a difference to be honest and did put me off a little having said that I would definatly return

Decent beers (lagers and hand pulled) and friendly staff. The food looked ok, though we didn't eat. Well worth a visit.

I don't care if it's absolute vodka. £15 for a double is innapropriate for a pub. A warning beforehand might have been nice.

Went to a Bowie tribute night, expecting a singer, but just got a repeat recording of his songs, disappointed 😥

It was expensive. The Kirkstall Pale was cloudy but it's not meant to be. The staff were chatting among themselves and didn't seem keen on customers.

Function room great drinks meeting olace casual food

We went to the George and spent all evening drinking great beer and listening to great music. A real traditional pub, didn’t have food but menu looked great and I will definitely try it next time I visit.

A proper Pub, perfect if you get a bit fed up with all of the fancy bars and just want a nice old school pub.

Lovely pub! A real pub where you can feel at home. Charlotte made me a hot drink with Drambuie and lemon when I was suffering with manflu.... manfully! I always feel comfortable here and love it's so near to the city centre.

Still have a soft spot for this place. Just wish it WAS open on a Sunday evening. Just needs to be busier. They could get hospital staff back in regular if they had a discount scheme if nhs I.d badge was shown

This pub has very friendly staff always ready to help but unfortunately they do not serve food they are waiting for someone to be appointed. They have most sport channels for everyone to watch.

Wonderful steak cooked to perfection!

A neat pub that has a little more than meets the eye. The barman was extremely friendly both times I was there, and there is always something going on, from FIFA tournaments to karaoke.

Private room for parties staff were great

Unfriendly staff. Not helpful. Over an hour to wait for food! Only wanted a burger!!
