Looks a lovely clean place. Ordered the Gammon. VERY disappointed. The gammon was no thicker than a piece of bacon one soooo over cooked it was almost crispy. The egg wasn’t cooked and the white was just too snotty. At least the chips were cooked well and crispy for the chunky size. When complained they didn’t quibble and refunded me as didn’t have time for a replacement meal.

Visited this bar for the first time a few weeks ago to watch the football and won’t be going back. Although the door staff and some bar staff were pleasant the owner and manager definitely were not. There were tables reserved for staff’s family members and the owners friends, and anytime you were near the tables, the manager would bark at you to not go near the table even though we were not sitting on it and it wasn’t reserved for another half an hour. Don’t let people in to take up standing room if you’re not happy with people taking up standing room. One of our group moved a rope because people, who were sat in the table area, kept having to climb over it with their drinks and it looked like an accident waiting to happen but we got told that if we did that again we would get thrown out and that we shouldn’t ’piss off the owner’. Fair enough if you don’t want us to move something out of the way but there was no need to be so aggressive and rude about it, especially when we were just trying to prevent an accident. It really felt like the owner and manager were really trying to push us into being more confrontational so they could throw us out so we just moved to another standing area away from them then left as soon as the football match was over. Looking at other reviews it seems many people have had a similar experience, as if they don’t actually value paying customers, it’s also interesting to see that some of the good reviews are from people who have photos with the owner. Looking at the responses to negative reviews, it comes across aggressive and defensive just like the way they behaved with us.

Nice bar. Reasonable prices for York. Had the large fish finger sandwich, which was basically a small fish in a sub. Nice big chips, but because of the size they wasn't very crispy. If they're gonna serve chips that big, they need to be double fried in beef dripping to get the chips described in the menu. Overall, I wouldn't go back.

I recently visited this pub with my friends to watch the football and, despite the lovely and polite doormen, bouncers, and some bar staff, the experience quickly turned sour. There was a 'private party' rope to signify reserved tables, which is understandable with the football final being on. My friends and I, along with many other groups, stood outside these ropes, waiting for the football to start. We rested our jackets on the pole where the rope was clipped causing no issues to anyone else. Once the football began, we noticed many customers climbing over, tripping, and falling over these ropes rather than going around them, which seemed dangerous with alcohol involved. Someone decided to unlatch the rope to create a walkway and prevent any accidents, a gesture intended to be helpful, which I must note was not done by me. Given that the reserved seats and tables were full by then, I didn't see an issue with this. However, the 'owner' stormed over, threw our jackets and bag to the floor, and when I pointed out that this was rude, I was threatened with being thrown out without explanation—except for being told, "You don't want to piss the owner off." I was dismissed when trying to explain what had happened, leaving me confused. We were causing no trouble, yet we were treated as if we were. While other groups were smashing glasses and behaving much more chaotically than us, we felt very targeted. We continued to receive glares and nasty looks as we tried to watch the football, eventually moving because we felt extremely uncomfortable. This is not a place that treats paying customers with respect or manners. Instead, customers are met with disrespect, nastiness, and belittling behaviour from ‘the owners’- zero customer service etiquette. This was my first and probably last visit. There are many more welcoming pubs in York where I'd rather spend my money and give my custom.

Big bar owner (Paul Gardner) a complete weirdo. Some context before the complaint: there were five lads: one had a Guinness, one had an Inches, one had a Brixton IPA, two had Cruzcampo’s. One of the bar girls had come round and collected glasses at 43mins into the first half. Hence not buying another drink before half time. Complaint: Paul then gestures at one of the lads, pointing a finger at him and telling him to buy a pint or he’s getting kicked out. Claiming he’d not had a drink at all and then when challenged it changed to half an hour and then down again to ten minutes. It was almost comedic when some of the lads picked their pints up that they had put down, that he claimed they had never bought. Then when the lad wasn’t giving the reaction Paul was hoping for (an escalation of the confrontation) he moved on to another lad stood round the back and started grabbing him by the arm and pushing him around. Getting up in his face and using his size to attempt (and fail) to intimidate him. Resorting to surrounding the group with five bouncers when Paul was not satisfied that he had given the group enough grief. Paul also said to one of the lads that “soft drinks don’t count”. Which was a little confusing as one would assume that those are the most profitable. Of course being an England game means it is busier. But pressuring and intimidating people into buying more pints precisely 2 minutes before half time is bizarre. Obviously as a business you have to make money, but you make money from providing good service not from bullying customers. Further, if you’re really desperate for five lads to spend another fiver each, perhaps don’t have an article put in the York Press about your “six figure” purchase of the premise.

I’m a York resident, and this is without a doubt the Worst Pub in York. Shocking management arrogant and unprofessional. Went in to watch England Final, was told over a week ago, just walk ins you couldn’t book a table. Walked in at 3pm(five hours before kick off) nearly all tables reserved, and if you didn’t have a table you had to stand at the bar. We just walked out and found a much better. Place to watch it Absolutely terrible. Avoid, plenty more and much better pubs to watch footy.

I recently visited The Terrace and had a concerning experience that I feel compelled to share. During my time there, I witnessed three young foreign boys trying to enter the pub. Unfortunately, the bouncer denied them entry. What stood out to me was that, shortly after, he allowed other patrons, who were white, to enter without any issues. This incident appeared to be racially motivated and left a very negative impression on me. As a place that serves the public, it is essential for The Terrace to uphold values of inclusivity and equality. This kind of behavior is unacceptable and does not align with the welcoming atmosphere one expects from a community establishment. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously and addresses the issue to ensure that everyone, regardless of their background, feels welcome and respected. Overall, while the ambiance and offerings at The Terrace might be appealing, this incident significantly marred my experience. I urge others to be aware and hope for positive changes in their policies and staff training

(Let's cut to the chase...and get rid of the elephant in the room. You were part of the group who first claimed they had a booking in a full public house. We don't take bookings so you didn't tell the truth. You then proceeded to play the race card. The level of stupid and arrogance displayed was irrelevant as we were full. People coming in and out of the premises for a cigarette do not constitute white people been given preference, they are already customers. Why did you then follow the doorman down Bootham and the three of you surround him. Disgraceful behaviour! From a dishonest set of people.) Thank you for the opportunity to respond. I am one of the three individuals who wasn’t allowed into the pub, and I would like to clarify a few points regarding the situation. Firstly, we mentioned a booking because we had friends inside with a table waiting for us. The bouncer himself mentioned that the people he allowed in had bookings too, which is why we thought it was necessary to mention it. Secondly, the incident did not involve playing any "race card." What we observed and felt was a genuine concern regarding how the situation was handled. It seemed that entry was being denied based on appearance, which is why we were upset. Regarding the accusation of following and surrounding the bouncer, this is entirely untrue. We did not follow him; we drove past him on our way home. The claim that we surrounded him is a falsehood. I would like to speak directly to the bouncer to address this false claim and clear up any misunderstandings. We recognize the importance of ensuring a safe and fair environment for both patrons and staff. Our reaction was driven by a sense of injustice, not by any desire to be disruptive or dishonest. I hope this clarifies our side of the story, and I appreciate the opportunity to address these concerns.

Went to the England last night with a group of friends to enjoy a nice evening. The lovely atmosphere we had built up was ruined by the manager Paul who was demanding that everyone should buy a drink if they didn’t have one in their hand. He approached me with my friend and said ‘less bobbing and more buying’ even though I had a drink on the table. One of my friends had already had lots to drink and didn’t want to drink anymore but the manager was forcing him to buy more and two of my friends were REMOVED because they hadn’t had a drink in ten mins?! No one was ID upon entry so it seems that the bouncers that were on were clearly just there to make people leave who Paul didn’t think were buying. Horrible management!

The pub has recently had a make over and rebranding to become 'The Stonebow' and looks great! My family and I went for dinner last night and really enjoyed our experience. We were made to feel very welcome by the bar staff and waiters; who were all attentive and friendly. We had a few vegans/vegetarians in the group and the bar staff taking the order made absolutely sure that our order took into account our dietary requirements. The vegan 3 bean chilli burger was delicious and I recommend it! The vegan sticky toffee pudding with vegan custard looked good and my children enjoyed it. We are sure to return; maybe for the quiz on a Monday night!

The service was friendly and quick. The food was good. I recommend the hot beef sandwiches and toasties! Plenty of screens showing all the sport. It's nothing special but does what it says on the tin so happy to recommend if you're looking for a drink and bite to eat and not bothered about it being especially posh.

A great evening out watching the sport and a few decent beers with some work colleagues. Prices were good for central York and the staff made us feel very welcome

Really good quality food and large portions. Share a meal! We had the steak and mushroom pie, and the lamb shank. Both came with vegetables and chips or mash potato.

They had the football on, but the atmosphere was lively, rather than raucous. Quick and friendly service at the bar. The food arrived pretty quickly, was absolutely beautiful, in generous portions, and very reasonably priced. Highly recommended. We'll certainly be going back for a main meal the next time we're in York.

The Corner Pin does not serve food at the moment. The Barman, Greg was amazing, good fun and smiley. He was helpful, fast and efficient and knowledgable about the drinks and the history of the pub.

Noticed this pub was completely empty as we were passing so thought we'd help boost their sales. We soon realised why it's empty. They were unwelcoming and awkward about my friend's assistance dog and said the dog wasn't allowed. We had to explain what an assistance dog was and my friend is registered disabled (not a great , welcoming start). The barmaid put her glasses on and leaned over the bar to inspect his harness before we were allowed to order a drink..... I asked what white wine they had and they only had one. I asked if I could try a tiny taste to make sure I liked it - no that's not allowed either. We promptly left before any more rules could be forced upon us and headed down the road where our custom was more welcome.

Used the little shop by the rail track. I was served by a barista that did not add the beans to the app, did not take into account the discount I had and forgot to serve me the muffin I had ordered when I left. When I realised about all the above, came back to sort this out, and he was neither helpful nor polite. Not a good experience, on a site I have always been served very well.

We go in this pub every time we come to York (which is quite often). We went today with my service dog. We walked in and were shouted back by a member of bar staff and told we could only go in the front bar with a dog. We told her that she was a service dog (she had signs on her harness and I was wearing my badge). She wafted her arm at us and glared and said "Well if it's a service dog , I suppose you can sit anywhere." This was said in an extremely rude tone of voice, whilst still glaring at us. I suggest she attends a customer service course and acquaints herself with the Equality Act 2010.
