Went for pre theatre dinner and had the deal for 2 courses and a glass of wine each . Had quite a while to wait on our wine arriving but when it did , the red and white was worth the wait . Wife had the trio of pork to start and i had the tiger prawns .. both the starters were superb and had us looking forward with anticipation to the main course . Wife had cod and chips and i had Bolognese linguine . We were quickly brought back down to earth . Wife found a large bone in the fish which as you know leads to every mouthful being chewed slowly and carefully .. just incase . My Bolognese , oh dear ! It was the most tasteless and unappetizing plate of food i have had in a long time . There was zero seasoning in the pasta or the Bolognese . I asked the waitress for salt as there was none on our table , i put some salt on it and mixed it together and it was still tasteless. I ate a little more and was going to send it back when my wife said she would give it a try and i could try her fish as she was terrified of finding another bone . I managed to finish the fish without finding another bone however my wife could not manage to finish the pasta and agreed with me that it was probably the worst pasta dish that either of us have ever had . The waitress did ask if she could get us something else , but by then we both had lost our appetite. Lovely place but dont know whats going on in the kitchen !

Came here on a gift token for a three course meal for two with wine and booked in advance, on arrival the place was deserted and we were given a menu which looked reasonable but that was soon taken away and exchanged for another which was basically pub grub, I’d set my mind on having something on the other menu having already seen it so offered to pay the supplement which was okayed We couldn’t manage s as pudding so assumed this would maybe cover the £8 supplement but obviously the place is struggling so still charged us the £8 All this aside the waitress was very nice and the hotel itself looks impressive but the restaurant was basic with no tablecloths on the tables and basic decor Wouldn’t return

Revisión para cenar solo no nos quedamos en el hotel ya que vivimos en Edimburgo. Bueno, el personal era encantador y amable y el servicio no fue un problema en absoluto. . . . . .

We ate in the Brasserie on our first night in the hotel the soup was terrible and we both left it it was supposed to be vegetable broth but it was mostly barley and lentils and had the consistency of wall paper paste. Our main course was better but the roasted vegetables were very sweet, we only ate there for breakfast after that which was good.

I visited this place for an evening meal, as I was staying in the hotel. A fairly small restaurant which requires booking in advance. My starter of ham hock terrine was nice. My risotto was a little disappointing but main cheesecake desert was the best part, well presented and delicious. Service was good but as the restaurant got busier, it was clear that the 2 staff could not cope. Diners were having to ask for items such as bread. There were some other diners that had issues. The staff kept a smile on their face despite being under pressure. I wasn't offered coffee and was given the bill. It seemed they needed the table. So a bit disappointing and I can see why it is rated so low in the rankings. Most items were reasonable priced but some were a bit more expensive. My bill was just over £40 which for 3 courses and 2 large wines was reasonable.

Visited on a 2 course meal deal. Came on a Saturday evening and restaurant relatively busy, filled up as the meal progressed. Two steak fillets, both medium and pepper sauce. Steaks were really lovely and both of us enjoyed. Followed by two deserts of sticky toffee pussing, delicious. Overall, a great kick start to our weekend. One negative is how difficult it is to book an appontment - had the same issue back in September - you ring opt for restaurant, no one answers, ask for reception and advise of issue and ask to call back.....two hours to book a dinner reservation and very frustrating....and not the first experience so not a one off. Management should sort this out. Scoring less as this was highly annoying. Visited 31/12/15 YB

We went to the Terrace Restaurant for dinner after visiting the Holyrood Palace. Since we were early, the restaurant was not full and we were seated immediately. We ordered the smoked duck appetiser, rib-eye steak with potato wedges, chicken fillet, and the toffee pudding with vanilla ice-cream for dessert. The smoked duck appetiser was delicious. The rib-eye steak was tasty although a little tough to chew. The potato wedges were nicely cooked. The chicken fillet was tasty, moist and tender. The toffee pudding was refreshing and sweet. Service was good with our server giving us good recommendations and topping up our glasses often. A nice restaurant with good food overlooking a beautiful garden. Terrace Restaurant is located inside the Crown Plaza, Edinburgh.

We have lived in Edinburgh for 20 years and this was the worst dinning experience ever in the city. It is such a pity as the room overlooks a lovely garden and it could be a fantastic place to eat. When we arrived at 1pm on a Sunday the 2 staff on duty were not ready. They were still laying the tables. Curiously they decided to lay the tables furthest from the garden and they left the tables nearest the windows empty. The staff were very cheerful but clearly have not been trained properly. We asked what the soup of the day was and the man didn't know. He went off and came back 10 minutes later. We asked what beer they had and again he didn't know. We asked for a napkin and he looked astonished that there weren't any on the table. We had the tomato and basil soup and it tasted like a supermarket own brand. We then had fish and chips and they were the worst fish and chips we've ever tasted. The fish was low quality and greasy and the chips were oven chips. It is clear that there wasn't a proper chef in the kitchen. I think the management of this hotel should be ashamed. I have never written such a bad review before but I feel compelled to make sure people don't make the mistake of going here.

Stayed at the Crowne Plaza and desided to try the terrace restaurant and thank god we did. The Pheasant starter was cooked perfect and the Salmon main meal was delightful, plenty of red wine selection for a 5 star eaterie. Will be back on next visit to Edinburgh.

We had a three course meal first night off set menu the chicken was great whole meal was excellent well presented very tasty and wife described as one of the best meals she had ever had. The price was reasonable i believe £18.95/ person for three courses. The second night we chose the A la carte menu. I had mussels which were delicious, the main course rack of lamb these were succulent with a good variety of vegetables. We were served by pleasant staff that paid just the right amount of attention. I did tip them £5 each night which is the top amount i ever give for their excellent service and so thank you chef for an excellent meal. The staff rather begrudgingly informed me he already knew he was good!

Its too expensive for what it is. The communal dining, i.e. sharing tables, is fine in a cheaper cafe style place, but doesn't really work when they try to move upmarket. The food was OK, nothing special but quite tasty. I think they would do better and be better reviewed if they lowered prices and concentrated on being a good value place for informal eating. They are constrained by being a very small place and don't have any room to expand into. Its hard to write a review as it is not bad, just not that good either and too expensive.

Having eaten at his Leith restaurant and Loch Loch lomandwe thought it was a safe bet. The atmosphere was pretentious and drab. Although the food was well presented it was poorly cooked and of poor quality, the cost was high enough for good food never mind poor. Rack of lamb especially poor. We made our concerns known but to no avail, the public are obviously a cash crop and there is always someone going to go for the first time and be bitterly disappointed with very little left in their wallet.

Booked pre-theatre menu for me and the girlfriends visit to see the opening night of the Lion King. Was told on the phone that it was a Lion King themed menu which, according to the waiter at the end of the meal, had been moved back to the next evening. Both ordered pate to start which was disgustingly rubber like with no flavour. Main was disappointing and didnt seem to be what was described in the menu. Service wasnt very good and we both left feeling a bit let down.Didnt go for the 3 courses as we had run out of time, service was rather slow for a pre-theatre menu.Needless to say, we wont be returning!

Service was quick but very robotic. Our server seemed very forced and un-natural. Food was hit and miss. My wife's chicken was good, but my fish & chips was terrible. Fish was tasteless, batter soggy and oily, pub style chopped salad and I didn't expect frozen chips! Poor value (even at their pre-theater prices).

I must agree with jdoh28 - the maitre'd is great, very professional and helpful. However, when it takes one hour and twenty minutes to eat a three course meal in an empty restaurant without having coffee, especially when you request a speedy service, so you can attend an event. It makes you mad that this restaurant was so slow, that it made me late for our event? We opted for the £25 3 course set meal and ordered all 3 courses at the same time using our tastecard. This didn't speed up service as our meal still took ages to arrive, the soup was lovely, but I was extremely disappointed with the two rib eye steaks ordered, considering I paid a £5.50 supplement for them. The steaks should have melted in our mouths, so why did we have to chomp on them, regurgitate and leave on the edge of the plate. However, the veg with the steaks were delicious and the deserts were quite nice. My wife had previously eaten steak here, which was delicious but the steak quality was very poor on this occassion! Considering we were in this restaurant on our own on a Monday night, the service was disgracefully slow and I guess that is why the restaurant was empty. If I wasn't late for my event, I would have complained - very angry at service and quality of steak!

The cafe is small but doesn’t feel like it sitting inside. The service was great and staff very friendly and quick service. Had a cappuccino which was really good and very big at a great price and Mum had a lovely cake with her coffee which was delicious and very fresh and came with some cream. Will definitely be back & would recommend for coffee & cakes. The people beside us got heated croissants & was saying how lovely they were and fresh also. Thank you for a pleasant coffee and cake.

Service was perfect, particularly Safi (apologies if I've got his name wrong) who was very polite and attentive. Food was spot on, really good and no issues talking us through the gluten free options for my partner. Only improvements we'd say is the chairs need an update, but not something we were super fussed on considering the food and service were so good.

Good lunch in a classy restaurant but with decent prices. Much was reserved, but the friendly staff quickly arranged a free table for us.
