Lovely pub, well done interior and great staff. Cracking selection of beers and a great selection of roasts. I has the Wild Mushroom Wellington with all the trimmings. BANG ON!

Landlord couldn’t have been friendlier. Food was good but cold. Took forever after ordering and then the staff let it sit in the dumb waiter whilst they chatted and ticked off tickets. A shame as everything else was good. Great new decor etc.

The Earl of Derby has been my favourite local since it opened. We finally tried their roast dinner on Sunday with our family and it surpassed our expectations. I had the vegan option, which is always risky, but it was the best I’ve had in London. The mushroom wellington topped with tempura mushrooms was delicious, the carrots sweet and crispy, the roast potatoes were cooked perfectly and the gravy was addictive. I didn’t have a Yorkshire pudding, which is pretty standard when getting the vegan option, and the greens were left un-buttered compared to my friends’ veggie option (these were the only part left on my plate!) My friends also got the cauliflower cheese which they said was the best they’d had! It was all delicious and the staff were so kind, funny, and attentive. We didn’t feel rushed and just had a perfect afternoon. Thank you Earl of Derby team/Gengellys! 💜

Nice pub in a quiet area, great hamburgers!

Such a great spot to spend a sunny afternoon and evening. Beautiful bar with dark wood and backlit shelves. Music is great but never too loud that you need to shout. Recommended

I originally had my doubts about this place, but it's turned into a really nice pub. If they could stock one or two Belgian beers at reasonable prices (no, Leffe doesn't count) then it'd be even better.

Stumbled on this restaurant/bar as we hunted for a place that was dog friendly. How lucky we were. The burger I had was one of the best ever. Highly recommend. Would come back for sure.

Twice we’ve booked to go here for a roast and both times they’ve run out of the only vegetarian option (by 3pm). Today they also ran out of lamb with the only option being chicken. Waste of time booking, would go somewhere where they actually have food!

A delightful venue for birthday drinks with good food and drink but unnecessarily loud music drowning out otherwise convivial conversation.

Nice pub. Nice staff. Mushroom pie didn’t taste great and for £13 without chips (which were £5.50 for a small bowl) the food was not good value. Would probably go just for drinks next time.

The Earl of Derby has been transformed into a great experience venue. Update Jan/Feb 2024 the pub's been radically transformed and hugely improved by Parched Pubs taking over a really attractive purpose built public house. Good range of beers. Great food by Gengelly's kitchen, the people working here are all switched on and seem to be there because they like people, which is what makes a great pub! Below 👇🏻 are my observations of the pub under its last operators. I did this around 2018 I think: Pub that has lots of so many potential attractions in itself but tends always to fall short of the mark... 4 cask ales. Cloudy and vinegary lines not cleaned, whatever, off, but still being served, so bad, undrinkable, massive disappointment.

Incredibly attentive staff, excellent food (particularly good Wellington) and decent Guinness. Also one of the few pubs that serves Murphys.

Funny old place. The Earl of Derby (or The Telegraph, or whatever the heck it's called) has passed through many hands over the last 10 years, and nearly ran itself into the ground. But enter the current landlord (landlady?) who seems to have captured the zeitgeist of the place and it's crammed. Can't see it myself - the food is ok, but not over the moon, and the ambience is the same as it ever was. But hey, it clearly works, and it's really good to see it back on its feet. Long may it reign.

Fabulous atmosphere and food, friendly staff - what more can you ask for?

Really enjoyed a Wednesday evening here! Don’t often eat at pubs but the food was really good - we had the vegan spaghettini putanesca, the half chicken on braised beans and the burger. The chips were excellent too. Really good choice of pints on tap including alcohol free and hepcat Gipsy Hill. Will definitely be back

Came to listen to live music and was not disappointed. The beer and vibe was good as was the band (The Nunhead Folk Circle). Worth a visit.

Roast chicken for Sunday lunch. Great service. Food, good quality. On a Sunday, I would recommend to book for a specific time slot. Enjoy. 😁

A good local boozer with local beers (Gipsy Hill, Five Points), and good food. Lots of screens for sport, and a good, diverse mix of customers. I can see why it's so popular!

Good food but be prepared to pay £6.40 for a Guinness..

Been going to this pub on and off for 9 years now. It has now been taken over and has had a decent makeover. Visited on Friday evening and it was like visiting a nursery or crèche, babies everywhere, screaming, crying and causing havoc. It’s a pub!! On a Friday night I do not want to be surrounded by this!! I wlll not be returning. It’s a pub for adults at night time, not babies and breast feeding mums. Sorry I do not get it and don’t agree. Friday night is adult time.

In an area that is spoilt for choice this place needs to do much better. I advise you go literally any where else in the area. I went with two friends, we all ordered at the same time and only two of us go our food. What did arrive was miserable looking and over priced. On asking the bar staff when they thought my order would arrive, they said I hadn't made an order. I then asked if I had been charged £12 for a soda and lime and they looked shocked. I had been charged and my order not put through, No apology, no offer of a refund. The staff are rude and unhelpful and the menu terrible, go down the road, there are plenty of other options. This all happened with only about 6 people in the entire pub, and there were 3 staff on shift. Shoddy slapdash service.

The pub seems to offer a commendable selection of vegetarian options, and the service is noteworthy. A good selection of beers and wines. Could pay attention to the taps in the ladies toilet as they are not working properly, also the hand dryer. Would definitely come back here.

Tastefully refurbished Victorian corner pub taken over by Parched London in June 2023. The spacious, muted interior consists of two rooms connected by arches at each side of the bar. The front room has a semi-circular bar counter, jukebox, and a mix of high and low-level seating; the rear room has mainly standard tables and chairs. There is also a large upstairs function room and outside seating to the front under large canopies. The kitchen is run by Gengelly's with a menu focusing on pies, chargrilled meats and fish, weekly specials, and Sunday roasts using fresh & sustainable organic produce. DJ nights on Friday and Saturday.Excellent food and atmosphere. Dog-friendly 🐕 The staff are friendly and knowledgeable about what's on the menu & which beers to choose to compliment your meal. Relaxed atmosphere & an open fireplace to keep warm in those winter months. Definitely will return & I highly recommend a visit.

Great food!! (Oyster and Portobello mushroom pie, burger, sharing chips) sadly no leek bhaji that we had heard so much about. Sadly not enough near staff for a night when all the tables were booked or taken. Otherwise.a great night.

Went here for a comedy show! Had a bowl of chips whilst waiting for the show to start. I have no complaints about the food, service, or atmosphere. I will definitely visit this pub again.

It's such a delight to have a good local, and the food is delicious but it is just so so unfriendly and the food is so slow every time. We've come here as adults and with our child and I've never been patronised and so actively criticised by pub staff. My daughter was told off for walking around the pub in the afternoon. It is strongly pitched as an adult only space so be aware if you come as a family in the day time. Secondly I have never waited less than 45 minutes for food, even when I've put my order in as soon as the kitchen closes. It just takes the kitchen ages to get their food out. They used to have a children's menu and twice gave us food so late we had to leave within 5 minutes of receiving it.

The perfect cosy vibe, when nearby Skehan's is too rowdy to visit.

Food here is ridiculous. Came for a the burger the other week which was out of this world. I used to think blacklock did london’s best burger but I now think it’s here. Went today for the Sunday roast. Huge portions & meat is phenomenal. Can’t wait to go back. Thanks.

Great place, but afraid we waited for well over an hour for Sunday lunch with 2 small children (we were warned it could take 45 minutes, to be fair). Will not return with those delays, but clearly doing very well and food great.

Friendly staff and a relaxing atmosphere. It is important to note that if you don't book a table the day before , sunday roasts are unavailable to casual walk ins, as i was disappointed to discover today.

Came in at just after 6 on a Monday. Were the only customers. Ordered food and drink. A family came in with a dog that was constantly barking, ringing throughout the entire pub. Incredibly stressful, for me, and presumably the dog. Still no food an hour later, partner went to get another drink. Then a member of staff came over to apologise for the wait for food and offered us complimentary drinks - but as I wasn’t drinking alcohol and still had half of my soft drink, and partner had literally just paid for a new drink for himself, wasn’t much use to us, so we declined. Food arrived about 15 minutes later and was very nice. Family and barking dog still very much in the pub at 7.45 when we left, despite signs saying no children after 7.30. Food was great, but I won’t be rushing back.

The renovation has added to the atmosphere, nice to see the place so busy. The kitchen is smashing it.

The interior looks beautiful after the refurb and the selection of drinks is great. The staff were really friendly and clearly care about the pub. They were playing bossa nova music which I found a little at odds with the atmosphere. Food was good, but I was surprised to pay £12 for a burger that doesn’t come with chips!

Became immaturely hostile when informing me my dog was no longer welcome in their pub. Accosted by a member of staff and then security as I was saying goodbyes...get a grip guys and learn some basic customer service skills, adiós.

Was totally impressed with the quality of the food at a very reasonable price. The team are incredibly friendly, really welcoming vibe. Will be back!

Popped in for a very decent pint of Summer XPA from the Brockley Brewery on my way to Peckham. What a lovely renovation of an and corner Pub! Great understated decor and an airy feel to the place although I'm certain it'll feel cosy in winter. Staff were really nice ( I was the only one in there though as they'd just opened so maybe they took pity on me). I'm looking forward to going back with friends and trying the menu.

Asked one of the staff if anything else could be adapted and she said as a vegetarian herself she’d just been eating the bread for lunch. Also the taps in the ladies loos are put on backwards. Small details like this hints there’s much work to do before the new earl of derby will be up to scratch.

Cracking food, chips and leek bhaji are 10/10. Bit spenny, the only vegetarian main is almost £14 and it's just salad, and some of the pints are approaching £7, but it's doable for cheaper (wine is normal price) and also am glad to see new a new proper pub pub open Front garden is a sun trap 🌞

Exactly what I want from my local. Comfy and recently done up, the staff are friendly and welcoming. The vibe is relaxed and the food is cracking. Give the leek bhajis and chips a go. Outside space as well for the warm weather. Also a good place to bring your dog!

Good Telegraph Hill, New Cross pub about 10 minutes walk from Queens Road Peckham. Only one cask beer on handpump when I last visited but I am assured they usually have two or three real ales. Outdoor seating in a garden to the front. The pub has recently reopened having been closed since August 2022. It has been acquired by Parched and tastefully refurbished. Food is provided by Gengellys and is made up of pies and chargrilled meat and fish. All of this has certainly had an impact. Before the pub closed there were usually only a handful of customers. When I visited on a Wednesday evening it was packed!

I understand this quintessential pub has been closed for awhile. I was pleasantly surprised as entered into this refurbished pub. The evening was pleasant and atmospheric; staff were approachable & served you with a smile 😊 Drinks were reasonable. I will definitely visit again.

I really like the location and atmosphere of the pub. However they do not have any non sweet ciders, they only have inches and old mout. Nearly all pubs in the area have medium dry ciders such as Aspalls or orchard thieves.

A cracking proper pub with good old fashioned weirdness. Decent choice of beer and a nice outdoor terrace for Summers. We were there for the Thursday evening open mic night. Very well run with lots of quirky and interesting music with some top quality too. Excellent sound system.

One of the best pubs in terms of welcoming their guests, making a connection and knowing the people around you. The owners are amazing people, helpful and kind The bar staff are fun and make efforts to know you. There is amazing live music, quality singer songwriters performance every Thursday. There are other fun activities like comedy etc Do visit this pub and you will come back again and again....!!!!!

Great pub in back streets of nunhead / new cross. Recent new owners have done us proud with a new menu. Can be quiet but great for families and can get happily lively with locals and students Recently, much more lively with the owners doing a grand job of daily events, including great open mic acts and charity comedy nights

A little gem of a pub and much bigger than it looks from the outside. The telegraph was the venue of my niece's 18th birthday party. and the staff were very helpful, friendly and accommodating.

Great independent local. Live music, comedy, real ales. Lovely exterior. Real shame this pub isn't more famous!

Popped in with family for dinner. Super welcoming -even though we were early doors and kitchen not quite open yet. My little boy said the home made chicken nuggets were the best he had ever had. Will return to check out the different menus like pizza night and fish & chips. Lovely warm and friendly local pub.

Went to The Telegraph the other day, the Management team were so lovely and welcoming and they have a great selection of Beaver Town 😁 We will be visiting again soon.

A nice traditional pub is a slightly in between location between New Cross and Telegraph Hill.
