The Signal Pub in Lewisham

Literally the best Sunday Roast I’ve ever had. A revelation. Huge hit with whole family, teens included, and we are not even massively into roast dinners (out with in-laws laws). So well cooked, generous portions, delicious. A fantastic local find, on our doorstep, and lovely staff.

The three of us had a cracking Sunday Roast at the Signal on March 9th. I had chicken, my other half had lamb and our friend had beef and we loved it! Huge portions and as a side, the best cauliflower cheese in the Universe. We'll be back!

Not bad. Staff alright but needs some vibes

Hosted my 30th birthday party here a couple weeks ago in their upstairs function room and it was awesome. Manager is so friendly and helpful, and really took my mums accessibility needs seriously (unlike any other venue I spoke to!). Answered all questions promptly over email and bar staff were really friendly and helpful on the night. Couldn’t recommend more for private bookings!

Omg these roast dinners omg 😲 just amazing lamb was like butter the Yorkshire puddings fluffy light abd cripsy and that chicken soo moist and buttery nice cripsy crunchy potato's with herbs just amazing and those honey glazed carrot's and they savoy cabbage 😋 😍 staff where very friendly and helpful also the Red wine jue omg 😲 yummy

Just had a lovely roast dinner everything was on point really enjoyed it, the service was excellent a young man served us not sure of his name but he was very friendly and bubbly, if you haven't tried the signal yet what are you waiting for?! I highly recommend it

The veggie roast was one of the best I’ve had! The veggie wellington had a lot of flavour, wasn’t dry and the pastry was nice and flakey. The roast potatoes were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, and the gravy was lovely and rich. The staff were super helpful and very warm and welcoming. Will definitely be back very soon!

An on trend pub in an up and coming part of South London. Got a good vibe. Took a meal with a group of friends and it was fine.

My go to pub. Since Fran took over, I am now someone who comes regularly, I always feel so welcome and looked after. The staff are lovely. For me, it is a gem of a place. It is a great place to chill out and also meet other locals. The pub garden hold some of my finest chats with people I would not have met otherwise. All in all, a very friendly and warm atmosphere 🌟

Another local treasure offering excellent service and food

This is our local pub and I've never been so glad for a pub to get bought out. It used to be a green king and it was so dead, there was always lipstick on the glasses and it was just generally naff. Now it's so lovely, the staff are really friendly and very helpful and the food is smashing. Drinks are expensive but no more expensive than any other London pub, a pint of diet coke will run you about £4.20 and pint of beer is about £7.

Super good Sunday roast!!! To be fair I don't often go for Sunday roast but this was seriously good!!! Will definitely be back.

On a whole when the kitchen is open good food, but very pricey. When I go here it is usually for convenience so expect the cost to be a bit high, if you are wanting a good meal out I would say it is. If you want reasombly priced you will need to look around. The atmosphere is mixed, it is a venue which almost constantly has some form of sport on the tv. This makes it hard to talk sometimes depending on who is playing. I also hope they have fixed the toilet situation, as last time I was there the main toilets upstairs were gone and only the singular toilet downstairs avaliable.

The best pub in Forest Hill! Offering 1st class drinks and food for anyone lucky enough to be in the area. Have a sit down by a real fire and enjoy the events they have in store for you. This is hospitality at its finest. We had the roast beef on our Sunday out and nothing was left on our plates. It was so lovely! Thanks so much to Fran and Teddy! ❤️

Having lived in the area for years I have seen this pub change management 3 times. The first management introduced some much needed change to the atmosphere of the pub by removing the pool tables and creating a lovely, family pub in keeping with the demographic of the area. Unfortunately the service was always slow. With the recent change of management I had high expectations that the service might have been improved. Unfortunately the service was practically non-existent with us having to leave our table several times to place our food and drinks orders. The atmosphere of the pub has also worsened with the multiple large screens booming live sports across the pub. If you’re trying to have a nice family lunch then it will be interjected by men shouting at the screens with profane language. Not what we wanted when eating with our child. The bird-in-hand pub was the pub for that atmosphere but unfortunately it’s now crept into what was a lovely, family-orientated pub. The food however was top notch as it always has been but the service and atmosphere severely lets this place down. I hope one day it returns to how it was.

Over priced and over cooked roast. £58 for two roasts and 2 pints! Hard to get a knife through the potatoes. Only "greens" on the plate was a spoon of cabbage cooked until white with a few carrots. Nice staff and pints though

First time there. It was a Sunday so we all had a roast dinner. Food was nice, and portion size was also decent. We had our 2 year old with us and I would say the pub was kid friendly and also had space for our pram. The atmosphere and decor is very nice. We will definitely go again.

This Pub is under new ownership, and it’s certainly improved 10 fold! The service is brilliant, loads of lovely, friendly staff who couldn’t help you more! The best transformation has been the food…! The Sunday Roast is delicious, definitely the best in the local area (Forest Hill/honor oak/East Dulwich!) the only downside is there are so many TVs that if you’re not a sports fan you cannot escape it… my dad is hard of hearing so it was difficult for him to hear over all of the TV noise. But apart from that, honestly this place is great and so happy for the new owners 🙌

This place is so much better than previously. The new owners (Fran, I think?) are super friendly, the staff are attentive and great and the beer and food is decent. It’s great to have a pub which treats you like they want you there! Still don’t love the tv screens everywhere, but I can forgive that - it’s definitely the best pub in Forest Hill. They deserve to do really well.

It is always very civilized in here. If you're lucky you might get to meet the large cat.

I’ve lived in Forest Hill for 10 years and seen various versions of the pub, from the Hob, reopening as the Signal under Hippo Inns which was great but lost it’s way over time. This is the best I’ve seen it in years. Friendly staff, welcoming atmosphere and an inviting menu

Went for Roast Lamb on Sunday. One of the best roasts we have had. The manager, is so welcoming, friendly and genuinely cares about the pub, customers, staff and food. We will be back!

A wonderful, cozy pub with INCREDIBLE Sunday roasts and the friendliest staff. We had two beef roasts and one chicken and the food was exceptional - incredibly flavourful and generous portions. Fran and Teddy who run the place are super welcoming and I will absolutely be back again!

Eso se sentía perdido recientemente, visitó aquí en enero y estaba en un estado lamentable, mala comida y personal que no parecía importarle. Afortunadamente, este pub ha pasado recientemente bajo nueva dirección y está de vuelta a su mejor momento. El personal es muy amable, la comida es genial (una de las mejores hamburguesas que he tenido en un tiempo) y el interior se ve muy bien después de una renovación reciente. ¡Definitley volverá para probar un asado dominical! Además tiene un gato, lo que no le gusta.

I was there last night with friends. When it was my round, I went to the bar to buy a bottle of the Rosé we had been drinking - the Domaine Pinchinat. I was charged £45 for it. Something didn’t feel right about the bar man’s attitude. I paid for the wine, checked the menu online this morning to find that the wine is actually £36 on the menu. I am livid. I will not be returning.

Good local pub to watch football

Now under new management! Splendid atmosphere with friendly staff and landlords. Nicely designed interior, original wood fixtures with a modern covered beer garden. Highly recommend this place for drinks and/or food at any time of day. Substantial plates made with well-picked ingredients. Pub quiz on a Sunday is a good community favourite!

🚇 Forest Hill 🍺 £5.65 Amstel A Fantastic Locals Station Pub. The Signal is located in the heart of Forest Hill, South East London. The nearest station is Forest Hill Overground which is just across the road. This pub was built mid 19th century and started life as The Railway Signal Hotel. For a period of time the pub was known as The Hob. The Hob had a great reputation as a venue for stand-up comedy in South London. This is a large one bar pub that is split level, with the servery located on the upper level. The decor is traditional with contemporary touches here and there. Above the servery are some huge orange pendants, by the stairs is a model steam engine, my favourite feature is the live train times display above the back bar. The seating is predominantly low level tables and chairs with poser tables and stools near the servery. Upstairs is a function room, there is also a beer garden for the warmer months. The beer selection was good and included a couple of cask and craft plus No and Low options too. I decided on an Amstel, my pint was excellent, price point was pleasingly below six quid. The food menu consisted of traditional pub fayre, plus Roasts on a Sunday, Fish & Chips costs £14.99. The atmosphere here was superb, there were buzzy high street pub vibes with a local neighbourhood feel. The punters were from all walks of life, there were young couples enjoying an afternoon catch up and solo imbibers watching the scores coming in. The service was outstanding, the chap who served us was welcoming, quick witted and spent time talking to us about the pub whilst working his arse off making sure his customers were happy. The Signal has plenty on to keep you entertained. Throughout the week is Live Music, a Pub Quiz, Drinks Deals plus Live Premier League action. Check their socials for info. The @signalpub is a fantastic station pub that is popular with a broad mix of Forest Hill’s locals. The ambiance and welcome from the team make this is such an easy pub to settle into. It was fine. Decent range of beers. They had the football on but no sound. It wasn't busy. They'd run out of the dessert of the day (apple and ginger crumble).

I brought my daughter for lunch during half term week. We ordered food and a drink via the app and I paid in advance by paypal. The drinks arrived after 15 minutes but no sign of food after 50 minutes of waiting. There was one staff member serving at the bar and bringing out the food. I asked where our food order was and was informed it would be 10 more minutes. After another 20 minutes waiting, I went back to the bar and was told that the electrics had gone off in the kitchen and that was causing delays. I asked why they hadn't told me that before I paid for the order and they apologised and offered a full refund as we couldn't wait any longer for the food to arrive. The manager said she would do the refund immediately and pay for the drinks as we had been waiting so long. It was £32 bill and over 3 weeks ago and I still haven't been refunded despite raising a query through Paypal. We didn't even get any food so I can't review it but it's pretty shocking that they haven't refunded me yet.

Surprise birthday party for my partner, staff were lovely and we had the large upstairs room all to ourselves- recommend! Food was delicious- service a little slow but it was a busy Saturday night, all in all an asset to Forest Hill and not over priced either

Wouldn't bother trying to eat there. Had several dissapointing experiences trying to eat here now. Though its fine for a drink. Took 50 minutes for our roasts to come today. Staff didn't warn us about the wait before we ordered and were rude when we asked where our food was. The roast itself was pretty tasty when it eventually arrived. Just not worth the wait and rudeness.

BEWARE!! A VERY DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE Bar service very slow and overall service inadequate. We waited for over an hour for food and when it arrived it wasn't all served at the same time and some of it was cold! Even the condiments supplied were for burgers and not Sunday Roasts which we ordered. Food was very average for the prices charged. DON'T WASTE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY IN THIS PLACE!!

Gone way down hill. Assume has changed hands. No has a Weatherspoon’s type menu. Place is grossly understaffed. One poor bar woman looking after entire bar and table service all by herself during half term week. Food took 45 mins to arrive and was terrible. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

Arrived at 1pm but no Sunday roast as advertised, no explanation given. The place seems more like a burger bar with alcohol. Only a few comfortable seats are available. Not for me this place.

Stopped by with a mate on the way home from work for a cheeky pint and ended up having a few pints in part due to the excellent Guinness. Creamy and smooth. Went down a treat.

I booked a table for two to watch the rugby, when we asked for our table was told by woman at the bar that our table was by the piano, not even bothering to point out the table. Went to the table which is right by the door with no tv’s in view to watch the rugby. The table said William 8pm, which is not my name and we had booked for 7pm. We had to search the pub and eventually found our table. Then went to order food only to be told they didn’t have any fish. Then ordered gammon and was then told no tomatoes after paying they then said we have no eggs. Eventually I ordered scampi and was quite disappointed when it eventually arrived but my partners burger was very good. Also no light in the toilet which was rather annoying and where we sat we could not really hear the commentary for the rugby which was annoying as they are advertising as a six nations pub. I have been coming to signal over the years but was very disappointed it kind of feels like no one cares anymore.

Went in for a few drinks with friends. Was served by Kelly who was always smiling and made us feel very welcome. 10 out of 10. Will definitely be back soon

Hi ! Went there a couple of days ago and this is the kind of pub you want to go back to. From the atmosphere to the food ( especially the food !! ) I am beyond happy to have discovered it. One of the girl, Imane if I remember correctly ? ) were so nice and joyful so it’s a bonus on top of it. Thanks a lot, will definitely come back soon xx

Visited The Signal passing back through into London as looked like a pleasant pub to stop off at and had heard good things in the past. On arrival, the atmosphere was pleasant and bustling for relatively early lunchtime, however the service soon dropped off. We waited at the bar for around 10mins to order with no server around, or any staff for that matter. He then arrived with a coffee having looked like he'd gone to a local high street cafe. Drinks served were all well kept after the delay. Ordering food was extremely slow. From paying to food on table was about 45mins for a sandwich and a main meal. It looked as though the chef was making one meal at a time as it was very staggered and delayed around the pub. Potential staffing/stock issues? I think this may have just been a bad day for the pub as it appears to have a good local attendance with various events. It's well priced and the food was perfectly fine. Happy to revisit with hope for better service next time.

Had a Absolutely amazing catch up with my girls. Kels and iman was so polite and friendly. Nothing was to much bother for them. With service like this and attitude towards the customers we will definitely be back. See you soon

Booked Sunday lunch for 1.00pm, one roast was already off the menu. After ordering told food would be about an hour, then about 20 minutes after placing the order the beef was also off the menu so only turkey available. Food finally arrived 90 minutes after booking and was cold. Felt sorry for the staff who were doing their best but not obviously backed up by their kitchen. Should have been unfront that that they could not deal with our order in good time. The pub is also quite cold so if going in winter wrap up. This was out second visit, the first one was for dinner before Christmas mid-week which was really good.

This is a very lovely pub, there's live music and lots of entertainment. Food could be better though: I've had a roast once and the carrots were not properly cooked, my friend ordered cheese burgers for her children (with a few requests) and they brought everything wrong. It's a nice, family atmosphere but can improve in service and food quality.

This pub used to be a wonderful place to spend an afternoon. But now the comfortable chairs near the fire are gone, along with all other comfortable seating. Loud TVs playing sport add to the disappointment. It no longer feels like a place to spend time with friends. Just order, eat and leave. Can’t fault the bar service though. They were very quick.

Popped in for a couple on the way to John Parris cues . This pub is right outside the train station, you can't miss it. Great selection of beers and I had the Christmas Burger which was lovely... Very nice burger. Staff are great and price point isn't bad. Highly recommend popping in. There's a lot of TV's all with something different on so it's not just showing football which was a relief. The pub itself is quite long.. it's got loads of space and a nice little digital screen with train times on so you can time a quick half nicely before your train home 😀

Had our Annual Christmas Party held here booked a few months in advance, the space upstairs was perfect for 31 of us, the pub itself has its own charm. They were most definitely SHORT STAFFED. Food was being served whilst the previous course was still not cleared from the table, glasses, cutleries, napkins not on the table. We suppose to have our own bar person however it was only during our starter someone served us otherwise we had to keep going downstairs to get our drinks. Food: So we opted for 3 the course meal £27. Beef was served first which for those who had it said it tasted really good, then everyone who ordered turkey had to wait 20mins, kids still waiting for theirs. The turkey was non existent, 2 small slices, they bulked up in veg even had mash potatoes and roast potatoes which is a first for me, food was cold apart from the pigs in blanket. Desserts were questionable, however the Xmas pudding was not bad. Thankfully we had access to music so that cheered us up. Such a shame as the 1 year old was the last to get served.

Great pub near Forest Hill, with good beers on tap, and the food is decent. Definitely, recommend stopping in here if you're in the area!

Came down for a sunday roast with my partner we was astonished with the roast such a range of different meats. The staff were amazing and friendly was so helpful with helping me pick what cocktail i wanted to try. Will be returning again

What a lovely place! Visited here with my friend for a drink and ended up staying for food. Great atmosphere for a cosy catch up and picky bits for dinner. Girl behind the bar was really friendly.

Came here for food with visiting family and was extremely embarrassed. The food was absolutely awful. We ordered chicken burgers and got a microwaved frozen chicken breast fillet (of the lowest quality) on a cheap bun, with a side of almost cooked frozen chips. The chicken was pale and had no juice whatsoever in it. We returned these almost as soon as they arrived and asked for a refund. Another member of the family ordered a pie, which turned out to be a cheap, frozen thing that looked like it was warned up in a microwave. Absolutely disgusting food and a place I will never visit again and will recommend anyone else to avoid

Was in the are visiting friends and they suggested we go here for some food. Food was great and it was made even better by the helpful staffs whisky recommendations. Will defiantly come here again next time I'm visiting.

Maybe we just picked a wrong night, the Roast was very poor and basically a reheat. We have eaten there before last Christmas and the food was good so maybe its changed hands but this has definitely gone down hill. Disappointing !

Here on a Sunday. The service from Jonah was great! He was working on his own (the pub seemed to be very short staffed despite being busy). He managed a very busy drinks bar and food orders for several hours, on his own. Credit to him. Since the pub has been taken over by another much bigger company the place isn't what it used to be.
