Another amazing evening at 161! Best organic wine I have had in a while, inventive and delicious menu, and such a lovely buzz and warm energy from the staff. Will be back for more and recommending to friends :)

The food and ambience here is just truly special. What a hidden gem! The flavours are just surprising yet comforting and delicious. The garlic crumbs on the brined tomatoes were wonderful, the chocolate with chili is one of the best desserts I had and the bream With caper butter was just so tender and full of complex flavours but light and I just devoured it. Excepcional meal. The service and wine are also lovely.

One of my favourite places in London! Such a fantastic wine list with something for everyone presented in an accessible and inviting way. Kernel beers on tap! The menu is so thoughtfully, beautifully crafted and prepared. Always great vegetarian options. Amazing hospitality from a team that really care about their place, produce and people. An honest business that is a true reflection of the wine bar and bistro. Dog friendly, baby friendly, conversation friendly. A little community hub in Sydenham. Keep an eye out for their innovative events and tastings! Huge love for 161 x

We celebrated our engagement here. It was one of the best days of my life. Ben and Josh were just incredible. The food was sublime and the wine as always was amazing. We are so lucky to have such an incredible place.

Such a special place. I was there for a celebration meal. The food was exquisite - fresh & imaginative, simple seasonal ingredients beautifully prepared. Delicious wines to accompany the food. Staff were lovely. Nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommend 🥰

These guys really know what they're doing. Lovely food and bedside manner. You get a meat or a vegie option and beyond that, you get what you're given. The portions are unique, beautifuly prepared and (usually) just big enough to fill you up. Huge selection of wine. Can get a bit hot if the doors not propped open.

A lovely small restaurant serving a set menu with a good wine choice the food was lovely but been a person who does not eat meat l thought the starter and main course small and the main course could have done with some kind of veg protein because it was only onion and beans .

Some good dishes, however service was awful, nobody there and had to wait 15 mins to be asked what we wanted to drink, no recommendations, 20 mins and empty glasses to be asked if we wanted food - had tasting menu, empty plates left on table for ages, staff seemed more interested in chatting to there mates at the bar than seeing to any of the needs of other customers.

Came here for my birthday and it was brilliant. Great food. Lovely vibe. Reminded me of a neighbourhood joint in NYC. Will be going back for sure.

Fantastic food, with a really inventive menu that changes each week, with very tender meats and delicious desserts that are full of flavour without being too sweet. We go most weeks. It's great value too, and all complemented by a cracking wine selection. Ben and Josh (who run it) are also absolutely lovely and gracious.

Ordered the cheese and charchuterie boards for £12 EACH and got two tiny plates and some stale crackers... what a joke. Space is tiny and cramped. You're much better off going to The Mustache up the road.

This place is a neighbourhood delight! Fantastic food and wine, which we thought were reasonably priced for the quality you’re getting. Nice vibe too; we had a lovely chat with both the staff there. What more could you ask for?

I ordered a collection from 161 on a Saturday night. It was £27 for one which might seem on the steep side but I got an incredible main meal (spiced walnut stuffed roasted aubergine with kale, bulgur wheat, pomegranate and pickle) and a desert of spiced cake and cream that was big enough for 3 nights! Plus I could choose a beautiful bottle of wine. It was a real treat from a lovely little restaurant and wine bar - highly recommend!

Visitamos por primera vez e inmediatamente nos encantó el pequeño ambiente y nos hicieron sentir muy bienvenidos. El problema es que cuando solo hay 6 personas allí, no deberías tener que seguir pidiendo tu cerveza. Parecen fácilmente distraídos y poco organizados. También opciones muy limitadas para quienes no beben vino. Tuve que ir al lado y comprar mi propia limonada para mi vodka y el único otro espíritu disponible era la ginebra. Los bebedores de vino entre nosotros estaban muy contentos con los vinos. La comida es como cabría esperar: bastante basada en plantas pero agradable. Siento que era un poco caro a las 12 para un plato compartido con aproximadamente 8 rebanadas de charcutería, una rebanada de queso y un poco de hummus de remolacha. Los koftas de ternera eran absolutamente deliciosos y definitivamente la estrella de la noche. Los rollos de salchicha no son como un rollo de salchicha normal y tenían más de un tipo de presentación de samosa y bastante picante y muy caro para 4 cada uno, ya que es una rebanada en lugar de un rollo de salchicha completo real. En general, una buena noche para apasionados bebedores de vino, pero una noche bastante cara si también comes.

We came for dinner with friends last weekend and were not disappointed. The range of French wines was impressive and the waiter picked us a corker of a rioja-style red. Then came the food which was equally as impressive. Highlights were the slow cooked lamb, Nduja on toast and the chocolate and olive oil cake. We are so lucky to have this little gem at the end of our road and will definitely be back for more!

We love this place. Wonderful selection of wine from a very knowledgeable and friendly staff. Their dinner pop ups are always innovative and delicious (they make up for the smaller portion sizes with incredible flavours) plus the regular food there is always changing. Wish you guys still did brunch - we miss your scrolls!

Great atmosphere, we went to a really interesting wine tasting focusing on lesser known Chilean wines... We only sampled the food but was delicious and locally soruced ingredients which Complimented the food well.

We moved to the area this year and this is our favourite local place. The owners are so friendly, welcoming and always happy to offer advice on different wines and what you might like. We've been to a few wine tastings here which have been brilliant, they are always relaxed and fun. The food is incredible and the atmosphere is warm and cosy.

Ooh look! Sydenham has a world class wine cellar. On my doorstep! A gorgeous local independent French-style cellar and bistro, no more than 20 covers, charcuterie and cheeses and a wine list to die for. Only open Thursday to Sunday, which is lucky or my lifestyle might cost me dear... what a joy!

Ordered 2 glasses of wine, 161 platter and lamb couscous Staff were friendly and wine was tasty. The platter was very disappointing, very little cor now much it was. Lamb couscous was delicious.

An absolute gem in Sydenham - excellent wines on offer, always something interesting to try. Few local beers on offer too, which is a nice community vibe. Some food available too for supper. Staff are very welcoming and friendly, offering advice and recommendations. They also run wine tasting, which is informal and informative. Would wholeheartedly recommend visiting for a drink or two.

The owner knew a LOT about wine and recommended a fab one based on what I was looking for. Menu is a little random, but food was good.

Really cute local wine bar and restaurant with interesting selection of natural and organic wines available for drinking in or purchasing to take away. Great addition to the Sydenham food and drink scene. We should all support places like this! Really enjoyed the guest Chef night on Friday 1st of February, and we will be back.

Had such a lovely experience (my first) at 161 Food+Drink today. A wine tasting event, 8 wines, delicious 'canapes' that have probably fulfilled me for the day, and a friendly, personable and relaxed atmosphere. So happy to have found this place and I'll definitely be back!

A welcoming owner spotted us as soon as we arrived, talked through the wines we liked and recommended the perfect bottle. Food was delicious, if a little pricey for main dishes, but it was worth it for such a lovely experience. Great music selection too!

Small place so not a lot of sitting space but if you can get a spot this place is a must. Excellent service with a good recommendation of wines from the staff.

Top destination for beer, very knowledge and great bottle selection

We popped in the other day for the first time as we've been meaning to go for a long while. The staff are so knowledgeable and helped us choose a lovely bottle to take home. We look forward to sitting in and sipping a glass again soon as it's a lovely, intimate space.

I came here with some friends a couple of weeks ago. This is a great place! Really nice food and wine, plus they have a beer as well if wine is not your thing. The people are so friendly that run it as well. It is cosy inside so I wouldn’t bring 10 people and expect a table but for a small group it’s fine, and we all had a good night.

We’ve wanted to go here for AGES and finally made it last night. We were not disappointed! Amazingly passionate staff who were so welcoming and took lots of time to explain the different types of wine. We had a 161 sharing plate and a wonderful bottle of white wine. We had both of the main courses AND desert. All delicious! We will certainly be returning ASAP. It’s great to have such a high quality unpretentious wine bar so close to Forest Hill!!

Have wanted to go here for an age and was left terribly disappointed. Staff ignored us when we arrived. They continued to chat away to each other and we had to go over and ask if we could be served. Food was appalling. Dry and devoid of taste. The stars are for a great coffee.

Good selection of wines BUT... Can't read the board as fans and other stuff in the way and badly written. No wine list only bottles on the shelves to look at but if people are sitting under these shelves it's a bit awkward. Print a list boys stop trying to be so hipster you alienate customers and propel don't know what you're selling remember you're here to sell wines don't make it complicated. Wines are served at 125ml and not cheap. However the wines we chose were excellent. Get a list!

Oh 161 how I love thee. The perfect place got a chilled glass of vino with good friends and great staff. Their house wine (usually about £3/£3.50 a glass) is always excellent but for those wanting to dare Al is on hand to literally hold your hand in the marvellous world of wine and teach you all you need to know. Food wise it is simple and delicious with either tasty bread and butter, olives or bigger dishes that include meat, pulses and many a marvel. Booking is wise but they'll always try and seat you if you rock up. It's a lovely part of the world Oh and they also have cake.

The good stuff: 1) Freshly cooked food, pastries and a choice selection of booze sourced from near and far is to be had 2) It's a cosy place to socialise and catch up with your muckas 3) Great coffee - even if it only fills half a cup 4) Staff are generally very helpfully, chatty and attentive - despite what other reviewers have said. Stuff to improve: 1) It's a tad pricey for what you get - for example it's £6.50 for 2 eggs on a slice of toast with a dollop of pesto for good measure. I like the idea that I'm supporting a small, local business but I still want to see fair value for money. 2) I asked for some pepper to put on my food only to be told that the food was already seasoned and that I wouldn't need any. Surely seasoning food is down to individual taste? Get your shakers out 161! 3) It's carrying a bit of a tired hipster feel. Munching your overpriced eggs on toast off of a cut in half door while lighting is suspended from bits of old string is a bit passe these days. I like rustic charm but 161 just looks old. It could be much, much more with a little investment. Overall, it's worth a visit with friends but I certainly wouldn't eat here.

went to get a take away coffee, a member of staff asked i wanted, then walked off to clear a table, came back, then decided to answer the phone, to which i was getting a little annoyed, I ended walking out with out my take away coffee. This wasnt the 1st time this has happened to me, but thought it may have been a busy morning!

There's a wonderful intimate atmosphere here. I've been several times. The staff are very knowledgeable about wine and charming to boot. I highly recommend a visit.

Usually pop in here for a takeaway coffee on the weekends but went for dinner instead last night and was not disappointed. Menu posted on the board daily, full of delicious choices. Great wine list, friendly staff. Small but lovely.

My girlfriend took me here having raved about her earlier visit with a friend. We went for dinner and sat on high chairs at the side and drank very nice red wine which didn't give us a hangover the next day - quite an achievement in Britain it seems. The place was full and had a lovely buzz - I counted 25 customers - the sort of place you'd expect to see in Barcelona or Paris rather than Sydenham. There was one guy (poss the owner) working the room and his service was excellent - attentive and knowledgeable. The menu was limited and disappointing - vegetarian only. We ordered hummus and bruschetta followed by a risotto made from pearl barley. Never in a million years would I choose to eat food like this - for good reason. This is the sort of food that people who don't like food eat. But on the whole we had a lovely evening and I look forward to going back again. Just hope the menu improves.....

Always helpful in choosing wine. No substandard mass produced wines here, which means you may not have seen these wines before. Great coffee as well.

Nice service, really nice coffee and they have a nice cake and food selection. The Wine nights are also good with a great atmosphere.
