The tea room looks cute from outside but sadly the quality of the food does not match the decor. It was cold inside, the coffee machine was not working and not all items on the menu were available.

This used to be a lovely place for afternoon tea but in the years since we last visited it has lost its sparkle. It’s such a shame but it appears that the new management don’t have a passion for vintage tea rooms. It wasn’t as themed as before, not so quant or pretty, I can’t quite put my finger on the difference. The staff were polite but not friendly - and I’m sure the lady who used to own it / work there used to wear a vintage frock! This could be overlooked if the food was good, but it wasn’t. Simple sandwiches made with cheap bread, hard scones, a stingy amount of cream and no butter, shop bought cake. The coffee was a cheap instant - awful! The lady overheard us talking about it being weak and did make us more, but it was still terrible as it was just cheap coffee. At £17.50 a head it was way overpriced for what we got. I could have easily made something better at home and for a lower cost. Homemade cakes, a range of teas and freshly brewed coffee are what it needs at a bare minimum. We won’t be back!

My sister was visiting from the States just after our mother's 95th birthday, so I ordered a takeaway afternoon tea and we got out all my mother's antique tea set and tablecloth that hadn't seen use for decades. Absolutely perfect - thank you so much Vintage Tearoom for the lovely fresh sandwiches and delicious cakes and cream teas. And juicy fresh strawberries, where did you get them this time of year? Very generous portions - we couldn't mange it all in one sitting. And so much care taken in presentation.

Wanting to take our friend out for her birthday, we decided on afternoon tea. I found this little hidden gem on the net. On entering I was a little disappointed that it was smaller than I thought. But we were served by a very obliging young lady, asked for our preference regarding sandwiches and cakes. We said we'd like a variety. There were 5 of us and they certainly delivered a variety, 2 pots of tea which we were asked if we wanted topped up or fresh. Such a quaint little tea shop with mismatched cups and saucers, but of a vintage type which added to it being a 'different' sort of tea shop. The decor is 'vintage' too, with lots of posters/pictures from bygone days as well as hats to try on if you want to, possibly with the idea of a photo being taken. First time, but certainly not the last! Absolutely delighted with the whole experience.

What a lovely afternoon tea we had. I took my Mum there for a treat and I must say it was lovely. The sandwiches were lovely and fresh. The scones were delicious. There was just the right amount of food, I also liked the fact we were asked what cakes we would like, so there was no waste and we was given a box to take the leftovers home. I will definitely be returning as the owner made us feel very welcome and I will also recommend me this to friends.

My 2 daughters, mother and I make it a yearly occasion to have Afternoon Tea at a different place. We had spotted this tea room on passing and thought we must try. I'm sorry to say we were so disappointed. On arrival the lady in charge seemed very nice and said we could choose a table. There was only one table taken by three ladies so we chose the table in the window. The table was bare other than a table cloth and a sugar bowl. The lady came to us and asked if we wanted tea or coffee, we opted for tea. She came back with a stack of mismatched saucers, cups, plates and cutlery and left them in the middle of the table for us to sort. She then brought 2 teapots over and milk. The tea was awful, weak and watery. My mum had to ask for it to be stronger. We received 1 cake stand with very plain sandwiches, cheese, ham & egg. Scones (shop bought) a small amount of cream & jam for 4 people (no butter) and a large slice of cake of our choice. I know the tea room is vintage but it didn't seem very hygienic and even the waitress didn't seem very presentable. To sum it up, at £64 for 4 we felt very cheated and disappointed. We left feeling very deflated. Sorry but we will not be returning.

For part of my wife’s week of birthday treats I booked afternoon tea here. On arrival the owner was away at a local shop to get some bread as she had run out, no problem here. Just after we walked in we were followed by customers who had come in to collect takeaways, which they had to wait about twenty minutes for as they hadn’t been prepared. My wife opted for the menu advertised afternoon tea while I decided to have a ploughman’s. Our food was served almost thirty minutes after we had arrived. The afternoon tea consisted of six quarter sandwiches, two plain cheese, two plain ham and two tuna in place of the advertised egg sandwich, one scone with cream, a slice of cake and a small bowl of crisps which appeared to have a tuna flavour about them and no sausage roll. My ploughman’s was very nice but we were very disappointed with the set afternoon tea. The owner was very pleasant but indicated that she had problems that day and we heard her telling another party that she had run out of several foods. So at £24.95 for our food we didn’t consider it value for money and certainly not the experience we had hoped for.

This was our first visit, and I don’t think we’ll be rushing back, sad to say. We had taken our granddaughter for afternoon tea for her birthday. On arrival we were given a small bowl of crisps and a small bowl of sausage roll, cut into small pieces. I don’t think the sausage roll was homemade, it definitely didn’t taste like it. We had a pot of tea and a pot of coffee and were asked what cake we would like from a choice of 4 different ones. I thought it was unusual to be asked what cake we would like as usually you’re just given a selection. We were also asked if we wanted fruit or pIain scones - again usually there’s just a mix of different ones on the cake stand. Both the cake and the scones were very, very dry, and I would have thought shop bought. The sandwiches were nothing to write home about, cheese, ham and egg mayonnaise. Usually I would expect a bit more than a plain cheese sandwich in fairly stale bread for afternoon tea. I’ve had afternoon tea in a few different places and this was the poorest I’ve had. We paid £64 for 4 of us and I certainly don’t think we had good value for money. The lady that served us was very nice, but I didn’t feel we could say anything at the time as it was quite busy in there, with hindsight we should have done. I’m upset that our experience was not what we expected, we live local to the tea rooms and like to support local businesses, but if we want afternoon tea again we’ll be going elsewhere.

Have been to the tea room on many occasions and can only give them praise and positive reports. Have just been to the small garden centre joined to it and the couple running it couldn't have been more helpful. We came away with a boot full of flowers for a very reasonable price. They gave us lots of useful information ans advice. We will be returning to the tea rooms and gardens and would thoroughly recommend both.

The lady that runs the tea rooms is very friendly however this does in no way make up for the tea. We were a party of six and all thought the same. We started off with warm cocktail sausage rolls in dishes which was quirky but welcome as it was a cool and rainy day. The tea (no choice) came in far from dainty pots and the cups and saucers were on the whole dainty but mismatched. The best was yet to come the sandwiches could only be described as something you'd find at a street party similarly the cake( which you had to pre select) came in large not dainty slices and were rather dry. The best part of the whole thing was the scones which were dainty and warm. We were all disappointed and needless to say won't be returning. It does appear that the proprietor has never experienced a true afternoon tea. We weren't expecting the Ritz but it could have been so much better

I recently visited The Vintage Tearoom with family who are not from the area. We had a lovely afternoon tea with plenty of fresh, well-filled sandwiches, sausage rolls, delicious homemade cake and warm scones which came with lots of jam and cream (we asked for extra cream- this was no problem and we were not charged extra unlike other places we have visited). We drank plenty of tea and coffee which we found out was all included in the price of the afternoon tea making it excellent value for money! The decor is certainly different and we all loved the hollywood wallpaper mixed with the vintage themed photos which perfectly suits the tearoom’s name. The staff were friendly and very accommodating- nothing was too much trouble. Overall, we had a lovely, relaxing experience - really enjoyed the 50s background music which made our visit all the better. We will definitely be returning and weather permitting on our next visit we would love to sit in the well kept , dog friendly garden.

Cheap bread, egg mayonnaise was lacking any mayo flavour and was tasteless apart from the taste of cheap spread. scones were so dry they were inedible. husband who is a coeliac asked at the time of booking if they could cater for this to which he was told yes. yet when we were given our scones he was told oh you haven't got any but you do have some cake which was already included. yet still charged full price for a piece of boxed Tesco carrot cake and apricot tart and no scones. gluten free issues aside, Worst afternoon tea we have ever experienced, Staff were polite, just extremely poor food.

After a few minutes of us chatting two very laden cake stands were delivered to our table packed full of tuna, egg, cheese, ham, cheese and tomato and ham and cheese sandwiches with salad leaves, tomatoes and sausage rolls then topped with huge home made scones, strawberries, jam and clotted cream, fudge and choc cereal treats!!!! By the time we had eaten all of this with the bowls of crisps and non alcoholic 'spritz' we were all completely stuffed and then were asked which slice of cake we would like!! Needless to say we had six slices of cake to take away X this was a lovely afternoon tea, nice surroundings and very nice staff so we will definitely be coming again - thank you very much ☺️ x

we visited for a special anniversary afternoon tea. we walked into a lovely room but were told we have a large booking so you are in here and were led into a small plain annex section that smelt so badly of gloss paint that all the doors and windows were open. we said it smelt and were offered to sit in the other section but told we would have to be finished by 1pm due to another booking we did not want to be rushed so did not move. I ordered egg mayonnaise sandwiches which had no flavour and just tasted of cheap butter and plain egg, no mayonnaise flavour at all. I had to request salt and pepper to try and make them edible which didn't work so they were not eaten and left as was the dry shop bought sausage roll and scones which were so dry they were also inedible. the carrot cake and tea was nice but that was about it. my husband who booked the visit advised he was a coeliac at the time of booking and was told that they could cater for a gluten free afternoon tea. He was given gluten free sandwiches which were nice but then told we don't have scones for you and was given a tiny piece of tesco carrot cake, tesco apricot tart pot of cream and jam yet still charged for a full afternoon tea. we have been to many small tea rooms who have been able to provide a gluten free scone and homemade gluten free cake with the gluten free food aside, this is still the worst afternoon tea I have ever experienced. I did raise the above points with the owner who basically said they had served 63 scones and I was the only person to complain. yet my daughter felt the same and so do other reviewers on this site.they offered a free cream tea but it was so poor I declined as I would never go back there and would never recommend to anyone. also toilet door needs a lock on it

My friend and I had a lovely afternoon tea and 'vintage experience'. When I say vintage experience we came out of there full of cake, cream and jam but also full of by gone memories with the music played. We had a lovely time trying to put names to tunes etc.We had the traditional afternoon tea which consisted of tea or coffee, glass of non-alcoholic bubbly, scones, jam, clotted cream, sandwiches with some delicious chutney in some. Handmade chocolates and a big slice of cake to finish. Unusually there were also sausage rolls served with it. This is a very tiny criticismn and I mean small but I found these to be a little dry and tasteless. Suggest either remove completely or replace with perhaps cocktail sausages on sticks, or minature pork pie slices. For the area I did find it a little pricey but saying that we did have the full tea and there was absolutely loads. There are cheaper options on the menu and it isn't deterring us coming back in fact we have booked to return in May. One thing I would suggest is advertise your lovely chutneys and chocolates on the menu saying these are for sale as they are so nice but not seen properly. All the staff are a credit to the owner, courteous and helpful - nothing appears to be too much trouble. In a nutshell give it a go it is well worth the trip for not only the food but the atmosphere too.

This is a small and relatively new vintage themed tearoom. It has a nice buzz , good selection of cakes & serves afternoon tea ( not tried on this occasion) .Yes it is a little unfinished in places, but it is fun and quirky. Coffee & walnut cake very nice. Cream scone nicely decorated when served. However the coffee needs some sorting out, served in a little vintage pot, but instant coffee. With so many coffee shops now the game does need upping here, buy a filter machine or use a French press but real coffee is a must.Go not because you want a dainty afternoon tea, but to support a local business .Well done to the friendly helpful staff, but please get some real coffee.

From the quirky decor, large variety of food and lovely chatty staff, I had a brilliant time from start to finish, and I even returned 2 weeks later for another meal! The food is gorgeous, and the traditional tea is also a lovely touch to any meal. Personal touches like the crockery and the gifts for sale around the room also added something special and different to the place. Went here for my husbands birthday after purchasing a Groupon deal.We have been for many afternoon teas and I'm sorry to say that this was the poorest we have experienced. It is a vintage tea room, however we thought it was a mess, wires hanging out a ceiling that looked like it could fall on you at any moment, and newly plastered walls, yet to be painted. The tiny sandwiches were filled economically and the sausage rolls were obviously not home made and on the small side.A previous reviewer mentioned a large slice of cake, however our portion was definitely not large. The scones, once again were tiny and did not taste home made.A very disappointing experience, although the ladies there were very pleasant.I don't know if portions and quality were affected by the fact that we were on a Groupon deal?We would not return.

This was mine and my family first visit to this lovely tea room. When we went it was cash only, luckily only 1 min down the road there was a petrol station where we got money out from there. It was a very welcoming atmosphere, the decor wasn't the best (as the ceiling was cracking and wires hanging out) but I loved the cutlery and tea cups (very fancy). The menu wasn't big but we all mange to find something we liked. Each of our food was presented very well on platter boards and bowls. I must say my boyfriend bread stick was quite hard to cut into and my scones were cold (but that's my judgement I like them warm) But I am sure the next time I can ask to have them warmed up. I will definitely be returning, I can imagine it be very good for birthdays as they had an extra room for hire I believe. The table next to us were having an afternoon tea which looked amazing, so definitely trying that next time. Thank you for the staff for looking after us

We were a little early meeting our friends here, but the ladies were nice enough to make us a cup of tea whilst we waited. They are going through a refurb personally I would not open shop with all wires hanging down from the ceiling and the toilet door not fitted correctly the hot tap is very dangerous. It's over all presentation that counts. Once these things are tided up im sure it would be lovely. We had a good selection of sandwiches and a scone which was lovely totally full by the time we had our last cake which we all look home the two ladies at the start of the morning could have been a little more welcoming I found them very hard to approach as a few times when we asked for things their eyes raised up, felt like I couldn't ask for anything in the end. Customer service needs to improve and refurbishment needs to be finished then this would be a lovely place I would visit again.

After reading the reviews we tried tthis for 12 noon tea and cake. Found the atmosphere a bit flat. Nice cake and nice tea set.

Was invited by a colleague for a 'leaving work " breakfast at the tea room. A party of us turned up at 830am to be met by a true feast!A table was laden with meats, cheeses, fresh fruit, cereal, yoghurt, croissants and pastries.3 types of fruit juice were available and tea and coffee were served in quaint tea and coffee pots together with vintage china. Porridge was also on offer and hot pancakes, toasted tea cakes, crumpets and hot toast kept coming with jam, honey and marmalade to accompany it! I can't remember having such a breakfast and served by helpful, friendly staff in a great vintage tea room.We tried our best but despite our best efforts we only made a small dent in the amount of food on offer. We will return to have a further attempt!Highly recommended for a good atmosphere, great food and fantastic hosts!

A vintage style tea room. Prices very good. Sandwiches and cakes good value for money. My friends and I went on a Tuesday lunch time. It was a good job we booked a table as it was very busy which must say something about the place.

I have been here a couple of times now - a really cosy vintage style tearoom. Very good value - friendly and attentive staff serve home-made cakes, afternoon tea etc. This place has a real "family" feel to it and welcomes children. Well worth a visit if you are wanting something a bit different to the standard chain coffee houses!Highly recommended

This place is fantastic. Standout customer service from staff, delicious menu, excellent range of drinks available. Good for mains and drinks as well as coffee and cake. Spacious with interesting decor. Very affordable prices too. Can get a bit noisy, and sometimes feels poorly lit, and chairs are a hodgepodge so some more comfortable than others but there are a few sofa seats, and every time we’ve been we’ve enjoyed ourselves. Overall, feels very inclusive and welcoming.
