Have been avoiding Harvesters- especially this one for a while. Decided to try it again to see if it's any better. There was at least a 5 minute wait at the entrance door for someone to take us to a table. The place only had about 3 customers so it wasn't very busy at all. We were shown to a table, which we very quickly changed as it had a severe wobble. This MUST of been known to the staff as it should be wiped quite a few timesaday? The new table had smears of I don't know what but we just stayed on that table. The waitress was very good and any criticism is NOT aimed at her. Order taken and the starters arrived. The mushrooms were the same as before. Bite into them and your mouth is instantly flooded with hot oil. Revolting. We ordered garlic bread and what arrived was more like a very poor cheese on toast prepped by a 3 year old. Everything was stuck together and prising it apart resulted in one piece having no cheese and the other double sided cheese. Onto the mains We ordered the Classic Chicken Burger. This was mostly Luke warm at best but simply tasted burnt. No other flavour. The Bacon with it was like cardboard and also was very burnt. This came with Luke warm frozen chips which were equally tasteless. I did order a pint of Stella but didn't drink it all as it was very bitter. The pipes definitely need cleaning. Overall it's a 2 out of 5 as the Waitress was efficient and nice plus the Salad bar was good- it's hard to muck up a salad right? Will be giving all Harvesters a huge swerve for the next couple of years then see how they are........ If they are still in business

Had a lovely time, great service from all the servers and great food lovely and hot. Drinks were good too. Will definitely be coming back again soon.

Went in for the English breakfast and was very dissapointed with the bacon. I ordered extra bacon instead of sausages but the bacon that came out was well overcooked and burnt to a crisp. The breakfasts are usually good so hope this is a one off. Cant believe a cook would serve this up and not expect it to come back. Everything else was fine.

We booked a table for 10 today, and it was ready as soon as we arrived. Our server Viaren was absolutely fantastic, made sure all order's were spot on, even with our daughter who has coeliacs, very friendly and chatty too. Also the food was put out very quickly, which ten hungry people were very happy about.

Only took three different cups to get a couple of tea with my breakfast. First cup leaked due to massive crack. Second cup covered in tomato ketchup. Third cup ok. Service not bad and food ok. But overall won't be going back. Basildon is so much better...

Our server Karen was very helpful and polite. She made sure everyone was OK with out meals

Arrived at 7pm table booked online wasn't ready had to wait in bar for 15 minutes we ordered our meals which was gammon steak with jacket potato and ribs also with jacket potato both potatoes were black inside and we were told that they were unable to be replaced as they were the last two potatoes available. The sweet corn was also not edible and tomato was dry . Why food of this poor quality would be sent from the kitchen is beyond my belief . My husband was a chef himself and was amazed by such poor standards from a reputable company. The serving staff were very good but the evening was spoilt by the quality of the food.

We had a lovely Saturday dinner , catching up with family while enjoying a lovely meal . Tarryn was super attentive and checking on us frequently throughout the evening while having a super positive and friendly attitude. Genuinely enjoyed our visit !

Absolutely brilliant, food was amazing, even the husband who can find fault with anything was impressed. Our waitress stayed much calmer than me when he had to sit under every air con unit until he found one he liked. 5 stars all round.

Dropped in for lunch, wasn't expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised. Food was great, air conditioning was really relaxing on a hot day. Service and drinks were good, will be back soon. Thank you.

Second time in a week I’ve visited. The first time was great, but this time not so. Nachos served with tasteless cheese sauce. Ribs burnt and no meat knife given. The ice cream deserts were half melted. Staff weren’t happy when my partner asked for the chips she’d ordered either. Salad bar was mostly empty and the bread rolls were dry and stale. Very disappointing for a birthday meal out. And I’m in no doubt they’ll just reply with the standard “ we’re sorry blah blah blah, but we will improve “

My biggest feedback would be regarding the address that is provided on the comfirmation email because I clicked on it, followed it and found myself 15 mins away from where I needed to be and them had to pay the low emission zone fee of £12.50. This also caused me to be late which caused me alot of stress. Please update your confirmation email address for Grays because it is wrong and I wish I had entered it into google like I normally do as I was only at Lakeside at the time which was 5-10 min drive avoiding the low emission zone. Well priced menu with reasonable options to choose from. The artmosphere is peaceful and beautiful. I did not like the eat all you can dessert though. It wasn't as fresh as it should be. I could take a third spoon of it. But I would go there again for everything else

Great food. The service was awesome. We've visited the Harvester in Grays many times and Eloise is a fantastic host.

Had a lovely time catching up with friends. Food was tasty. Bival was frienly, helpful and polite and made us feel relaxed and welcome during our meal.

We are regular harvester customers however we recently have seen a massive decline in the chain. It used to be a value meal but now it is expensive and sorry to say not worth the money. We bought a chicken skewer at £16.95 to have 4 small cubes of chicken. It was a rip off. The original combo which used to be a good size is now tiny, I got chicken which was barely bigger than a wing and 4 small ribs. Sorry but nandos is better value and better quality. This will be our last visit for a long time as value for money doesn't appear to exist in this chain anymore. Very disappointing. However the staff as ALWAYS were helpful and work very hard! Well done to everyone who works here, shame about the food

Abi was our waitress, she was really friendly and approachable. She did an amazing job as we had allergies, nothing was too much trouble. We had a fab time. Please pass on our sincerest thanks.

Service and food spot on! Tarryn (our server) was so good, nothing was too much trouble for her! Even when we forgot to order starters, it wasn’t a problem, she just delayed the mains by a few minutes

I brought my daughter here for her birthday. We had a large group of 22 people and Emma our waitress was amazing. Nothing was too much for her and the service was very quick and efficient. Thank you for making what could have been a stressful meal out (like any meal with 10 children usually is lol) an enjoyable evening. My daughter had a lovely birthday. We will definitely be back.

I went there with my grandson and husband apart from waiting 20 minits at the stand waiting for a waiter to seat us the food was terrible the gammon I had was rock hard the half of tomato if that’s what you can call it 2 burnt tiny onion rings around 6 chips and a spine of peas terrible the burger my grandson had was thrown in the bun you couldn’t see the burger in the bun the roll was that big and the burger was small I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy £65 later I would have rather not eaten especially there

Perfect start to a Sunday morning

Food was good. Abi was great but they were a bit understaffed to be fair.

Went for lunch with family was at in bar area as was quite busy, food was amazing and bar staff were great, Verity was very helpful and always kind to the kids. Would recommend for a casual family dinner.

Emma was really friendly and kind. Smiled every time she checked on us.

First impressions great, curtious staff, well presented salad bar, but went down badly from there, food delivered to the table, this being the main the rice was over cooked, the non beef chilli con carne was warm, my partners chicken was watery, desert was fine, could be a lot better

Steak was very tough Portions very small Very expensive in relation to size of portions half a cherry tomato half a mushroom childs portion of chips and a tea spoon of peas. Very velow par scale 1 to 10 3 Bar service also very slow 10 minutes to get served. Staff spent more time gossiping to regulars or friends

Good food, good service. Been here a few times with the kids and I have to say it has the best service of any Harvester I’ve been to. Management are always super welcoming at the desk and service staff are prompt and friendly. Abi served us this time and was lovely.

Not the greatest experience, management and staff seem miserable and inattentive, standing in the corner having a chin wag. Understaffed, 2 waiting staff o the floor on a busy Sunday. Kitchen playing there music with and open kitchen and chef keep coming in and out on the shop floor. Very unprofessional. Food is prepacked, steaks rubbery unable to chew, chip portions small, salad area was in a good state. Lights are bit low kept bumping my head. Service was slow. Had to get up and chase for service.

Appalling service. I booked a table for two with my wife for my birthday meal. I am currently less able due to having a knee operation and walking with a walking stick. It started with me having to stand by the desk for 4-5 minutes whilst the table seater removed dirty plates, cleaned a table seated a couple right next to the front door. Even though there were two ladies behind the bar just talking. I was told we were not able to sat right near the bar which was 8-10ft from the table that the other couple were seated at because I quote ‘we can’t serve you there, and if we let you, we will have to open that side of the restaurant and sit other people there.’ There is are no walls separating this side it’s either walk left or right at the door. He walked past another two seater and four seater table next to them and began to traipse through to the other end of the restaurant to try and seat me and my wife. A lot quicker than I can move and as I see where he was going I had to call out excuse me can I not sit there pointing at the other two tables. I’m not able to walk with ease through a busy restaurant. To be told no I want to turn that into a six seater for a booking of six. There was adequate seating the other end of the restaurant where he was trying to take me that could have been turned into a table for 6 which was rather distressing and made me feel like he just didn’t want us there. As those were the “specific two tables in the restaurant that had to become a 6” I said at that point ok I guess I will have to find an alternative restaurant. Before leaving I asked to speak to a manager to the two ladies still chatting behind the bar to be told the man was a manager. I then explained I couldn’t understand why I couldn’t be sat there for the man and the TWO ladies that were still standing there doing nothing to explain again because they can’t serve people there even though it was 8-10ft away from a table they can serve because there wasn’t enough staff. As a currently disabled person I’m expected to walk from one of of the restaurant to the other to get drinks and salad bar items because the manager is wanting to turn those exact two tables into a six seater and not other tables already in the restaurant. Either they are being extremely lazy, they don’t like the look of me, they don’t want to deal with people that appear to be disabled, or the success of harvesters brand means nothing to them as staff. Regardless I feel very badly treated and will never visit this restaurant again.

Went there yesterday told I needed to wait 10 minutes for the table we ended up waiting 30 at the bar even though the place was practically empty, when we got seated the food we ordered You could taste the oil on the steak and chicken and it didn’t taste very nice so we sent it back very disappointed with this experience. I will never go back again. This is the first review I’ve ever written it was that bad I feel I needed too.

Great service and busy with good atmosphere. Salad bar was bedt i have seen at a harvester for ages. Only gripe was the chicken skewers were a bit overcooked and dry. Wouldn't recommend them!

The food was ok, table was sticky and not cleaned properly, service seemed ok however they did not provide side plates and the salad bar looked old and not fresh .

Bit expencive and they could do a change of menu put something different on their i had a 40% off voucher that helped . The Staff here are better now and its cleaner than it was they also do a nice breakfast which is better value for money than the meals .

On 10/4/24 me and my friend were greeted by Tarryn she continued to serve us for our meal. Tarryn was happy, helping and friendly. We observed her being just the most friendly helpful person to us and all tables around us but also run off her feet was non-stop as well as staying so professional fantastic member of staff. We expressed our appreciation and observations when we had finished. She told us yes she was busy as she was doing the front desk along with her service area.
