This café is housed in the Mansion House museum and occupies the old scullery area. There is also outside seating in a small garden. The service was great and it was an interesting place to sit, but the coffee wasn’t the best. Probably better to have the tea.

I enjoyed my experience at this tea room. The food was fantastic and the setting was extremely nice. However what surprised me was, I was charged a totally different price to the chap in front of me. We had almost the same order but he was only charged £3 where my order came to £6. He ordered cheesy chips and a coffee and I had regular chips and a coffee yet still paid more. Apart from that I enjoyed my food and drink in a lovely clean tea room on a lovely park.

I would like to give the Ladies a big thank you for your hard work. There was a big group of us who enjoyed an excellent drink and delicious cake. We were made to feel extremely welcomed, nothing was too much trouble for them. They put themselves out willingly to accommodate 15 of us. The cakes we all ate were extremely delicious and we all enjoyed ourselves very much. Would always recommend this precious little gem to everyone. Thank you x

Great food. Busy when we visited. The lady who served us who wore glasses and with a short bob was very professional and friendly and seemed to be in control of the service. The two other members of staff seemed lost and clueless. Will definitely return again next time i'm in town.

I will not be coming back.... my food was missing items even though I paid for everything included. I asked for 1 cup of tea and instead got a big pot of tea.. which I then felt I couldn't return it, as it was brewed. And was obviously charged for this too. The highchairs were filthy! My wipes were so dirty after wiping it down, which just ruined the mood of the visit and made me feel quite sick. There was also a 'friend' of the waitress who was talking very loudly and every other sentence they were swearing which I did not think was appropriate for a family environment.

The service and the food we received were both deserving of a higher rating. The food sandwiches were really very good, on a plate it would have been excellant but a cardboard box doesnt quite do it. The young man that served us brought out our tea very quickly. The courtyard could do with a good clean, tidying up, more comfortable seating wouldnt go amiss either. To summarise the food and service is worthy of 4/5 rating its everything else which drags it down.

If you have seen the film you might relate to my experience. If my cheese scone looked like the above picture I wouldn't be reviewing like this. 1 supposed cheese scone, 1 tea, not too difficult you would think but the offering was an overcooked warmed scone served on a cardboard tray with a serrated wooden knife, the scone just crumbled like dry cake so I couldn't spread the butter, it was very dark, didn't taste of cheese at all, the tea was gnats pee even after squeezing it out into my cup, I just left wishing I had gone into the Key cafe and tried theirs instead, will not go back, a waste of money.

We went there yesterday and decided to eat in the courtyard. We were greeted by a very polite young lady who advised us that there would be a 20min wait for hot food, this was appreciated and allowed us to make a decision. We ordered a cream tea each. A short while later we were served by two very polite young ladies and enjoyed a warm scone with cream and jam and a pot of very nice tea in such beautifully historic settings...perfect!

Due to the lovely weather we decided to have our drink and snack in the Courtyard area. In consideration that this is a beautiful historic house this Tea Room area seriously needs attention and investment. The seats are all rusty, the seating benches are scruffy, the paving area needs cleaning / levelling and a planter positioned in the middle was full of weeds and needs a good lick of paint etc, etc. Come on Ipswich Borough Council or whoever is in charge this is not the time to be complacent ..... there are plenty of other good coffee shops in the locality who would be pleased for my (and others) custom.

The staff were busy chatting to each other and were not paying attention to the customers. When we made ourselves noticed the staff were rude. We found a table , but unfortunately was still had dirty crockery on it. When our sandwiches finally arrived the bread was dry. My friend ordered a potion of chips but had to ask for salt and sauce as there was none on the tables. It's very expensive, and the service is poor. Next time we visit the mansion/park we will take a pack up.

I popped in here with my two sons who are 5 and 8 after we found the Elmer elephants in the mansion house. We planned to buy drinks and lollies and sit in the court yard garden. Unfortunately after a few minutes the heavens opened so we moved inside. I bought what we wanted and sat down. So far so good. We were not even half way through our drinks when a waitress came into the room we were sitting down in and got right in my face asking if we had ordered food. I was completely taken aback by her tone and replied that we hadn't. She then abrubtly told me and my children to get off the table as she needed it for people who had just ordered food. I was pretty shocked as were the people who had ordered the food. They were embarrassed and so was I. They said they could find somewhere else to sit but by then I didn't want to stay. I told the waitress that if this was there policy they should have a sign up or tell people before they order drinks. I didn't get a reply as she had already turned her back on me and scurried off back to the kitchen area. I won't be going back as they are plenty of other nice cafes in Ipswich that are far more welcoming. So unless you are ordering food beware they don't value your custom. On the plus side my children have enjoyed embellishing the story to friends and family about the time we got kicked out of a cafe.

My 6 year old loved sitting out the back in the scullery and seeing all the gadgets they had in the olden days. It was chilly but fascinating. Thank you so much tea room for offering cheese scones as a diabetic friendly option. It was fresh and yummy. My friend also loved her Victoria sponge. Tea was served in quaint China cups and saucers, and came in a big tea pot.Staff were patient and friendly. No parking on site but Crown car park or on a Sunday the side roads are available.

Mum had coffee (reasonable) I Earl Grey Tea (Lidl) rip off!Mum had toasted tea cake - burnt but previously nuked? Revolting - staff blamed door being open and their toaster! I had a cheese scone - for some reason this came with a slice of tomato and cucumber and a pot of “chutney” and butter. £2.75! I complained it was “doughy” “did not taste of cheese” was just awful and I LOVE cheese scones - inedible. Got money back.A Booker delivery arrived whilst we were there and for their freshly made sandwiches they use brought fillings! Outrageous! They claim to make scones on site - but cannot boil an egg for egg sarnie!AVOID

The tearoom is housed in the scullery of Christchurch Mansion which should have felt homely and inviting but instead was a bit cramped, dark, dingy and in need of a lick of paint. There is outside seating but this was in complete shade on what was a bright sunny day.

Following a lovey, sunny and autumnal walk through the fabulous Victorian park, we happened across the tea room at the rear of the mansion house and retired inside for tiffin. The welcome was warm and friendly and the cheese scones and tea delightful. We sat in the courtyard in the sun next to a sculpture, rosemary and lavender filled garden. All in all a very pleasant tea stop only marred by the less than pleasant loo inside the mansion.

Ordered 4 hot chocolates, 1 cappuccino, 1 apple juice, 3 sandwiches, 1 pannini, 1 child's beans on toast & a couple of bowls of chips. We were kept waiting for an age (in the cold courtyard because we had a dog) until eventually our hot chocolates arrived but the cappuccino was further delayed because of "a problem with the machine". We had long finished our hot drinks by the time our food arrived (although the woman did not clear the empties while she was at the table.) We were served a pasty instead of beans on toast and when I said that I want sure that this was our order the woman was immediately defensive and rude towards me "well that's what it says on the ticket..." We had to pay for a separate order of beans on toast. The food itself was of reasonable quality but the wait and the attitude of the woman in charge made it taste sour. We will not be returning and cannot recommend somewhere with such poor customer service to anyone else.

My husband and I took my mum here as we were going to visit the mansion and my mum hadn't had lunch. As there's not a huge amount of choice, we tried the tearoom. We all ordered a panini and decided to get a couple of portions of chips to share too. My mum ordered a bacon and brie which she didn't really like as it was really greasy, my husband ordered a coffee which was warm instant coffee made with really limescaled water (you could see it floating on the top). He thought it would be at least a filter coffee at a tea room?? He couldn't drink it and being a stubborn man wouldn't take it back so just threw it away. Our paninis were ok although did take a while to come out. We had all finished our sandwiches before the chips even came out so it then felt a bit pointless having them. It all came to just over £20 which I think is a bit on the expensive side for what it is. Probably wouldn't eat here again.

I have been visiting Fonnereau's Tea-Rooms for years but my last few visits have put me off for good. Both times I have turned up with a paraplegic relative who is highly dependent on my care. The first time I was ignored for the best part of ten minutes only to be told they had no food left. The woman who I can only assume is the manager, was in a complete fluster and the staff were running around like headless chickens but not seeming to do very much at all.
