Brought my daughter and my grandson for Breakfast on Saturday Morning The breakfast was really tasty and my grandson loved helping himself to the pastries. Michael our server was very friendly and made us feel really welcome We will definitely be coming again

Nice pub, food was a little slow to come out, even though it wasn't that busy, but was definitely worth the wait.

We love this place, it's the 3rd time this year we have stayed here breakfasts are very nice and so are the staff they are really helpful . We have disabled access room and they are really spacious, we are looking at coming again in November

We had the carvery meal which was at the normal standard that the Mermaid offers. There was a choice of three meats together with a Yorkshire pudding, stuffing, vegetables, and potatoes. The roast potatoes were not crispy, and the gravy was very thin without much flavour. The vegetables were slightly overcooked. The price has increased considerably - Gone are the days of two meals for £10!

We ate at the Mermaid on the first evening of our 3night stay in the area. The food was reasonable but the carvery was very tired and really we shouldn't have been sold tickets to queue for it. The beef was suitable for repairing the soles of walking boots. I mentioned this . My plate was taken and it didn't come back!! The manageress apologised. I had a free sweet but was disappointed not to have a hot meal after a day of travelling.

Sadly, I went when Ipswich town was playing, and halfway through my meal, supporters using pub toilets, so trying to finish my meal with people walking by my table was not the atmosphere I was after. At no stage do I blame staff. Finding somewhere to park was a nightmare with supporters using it. Never go to pub on home games, unless walking. Staff were great could not fault them.

Before visiting a nearby furniture store we decided to have lunch at the Mermaid on Yarmouth Road in Ipswich. We both chose the roast with a selection of vegetables, stuffing and Yorkshire pudding. Delicious. Thank you Becky and Chef Ryan.

Went to celebrate my Mums 80th birthday, carvery was not up to its best, had a med plate buffet ,most of the veg was a bit dried on the edges where it had sat around for too long the beef had a nice flavour but was very grissly and chewy the roast potatoes were under cooked hardly browned at all,the Yorkshire puds were tough and hard to cut the cauliflower cheese had a lack of cheese sauce and the gravy was more like stock and needed to be thicker and have more flavour ,so all in all a disappointing experience

Had Ultimate Burger. Fab ! Cooked by manager....tku. Best burger I've had out dining.

Not much on the menu for fussy eaters, especially if they don’t enjoy chips/fries, you can’t get much here unfortunately. They seemed to have changed their menu and have decreased the amount of options of food available to order overall. Food was clearly reheated and tasted like it had been done in the air fryer, which is not always the best option to cook food in, as it makes the food taste worse. the place has gone downhill since the last few years i came here a while back. I won’t be returning as i have before which is upsetting and disappointing. Me personally i could cook a better roast than what was served here, not to be rude, but the food quality needs to be improved.

Honest David's reviews. Updated 18.08.2024. Well we thought we would give it another try! And nothing has changed! Except two things.... they are now charging more for the same nasty meal. Cokd yorkshires, 3 small bits of turkey, and it could well have been the same roast potatoes and veg from 2 years ago. Totally disappointment again. Added to this it was match day and there car park was totally full.. and I mean FULL... and the pub was empty! I mean 4 people in it. We had to park in the range car park and walk to the pub, again not happy. And then to add insult to injury, they weren't even showing the ipswich game, so to sum up, terrible food, no parking and no atmosphere at all. Sorry but we won't be coming back again. We went for the carvery.... not good, meat we hard a d had been out a long time, the Yorkshire pudding (you only get one) we so old it was horrible, peas were dry and I stood for over 5 minutes waiting to be severed.. there was no one else waiting either. Once we had eaten the plates weren't even taken from our table! Sorry but it just felt as of no one cared. Old review 01.10.18 Been here servers times since visiting Ipswich. The place has a large car park right beside it so no silly parking problems. Once in the bar area you are greeted by a large bar offering most types of drinks. Staff are ok. Maybe not overly friendly on some occasions but might just of been having an off day. We don't buy the carvery which they offer but buy off the menu, prices are reasonable and the food is always ok. A main meal each is all we normally get which fills us up. So we haven't tried the sweets or starters so can't comment on them. All in all its your normal Marston's (hungry horse/flamming grill) type pub.

WE arrived after 8:30PM to stay the night before the match and were welcomed as Liverpool fans with no issues (unlike many hotels/pubs close to grounds). The service was excellent, the food was brilliant after a 5 hour drive and the bed was so comfortable. (My son wasnt as keen on the pullout bed but hey .... I paid !! :) ) I hope that you got BT sport working again before the match started and we look forward to coming over next season as it was a really good experience from start to finish. Came for a carvery with family on monday 12th, as a late dinner, was not disappointed either, sat outside in the nice garden, food was really nice, meat was lovely, lady on the bar and the chef on carvery were brilliant, chatty, welcoming, really nice, apologies I don't know there names. Returned today for a meal before heading back south, again really really good. Thank you very much guys.

Stayed here for one night, great parking. The check in was OK, I was told that as the room was cheaper I would get a part refund.... So I gave them my card but what they actually did was take the amount rather than refund. Then they reversed it and said the refund would take 3 - 5 days.... Guess what, no refund. So tbh that was all pointless. The room was clean, bed was pretty good, good size room and was quiet. Just bare in mind there is no reception where you sleep, you check in, in the pub.

Visited for breakfast whilst in the area, decent meal for the price. Returned a couple of days later for the carvery, again another decent meal for the price.

Food was great . Me and my girlfriend both had burgers which were very nice and non greasy. Staff nice and friendly. Over all a great experience.

Burger n chips were excellent. Not greasy n were very tasty. Staff were very helpful n friendly. Tables n pub clean. Brightly lit, makes a lovely change. So many other places are dim n dark. My birthday today, so a lovely end to my day. Was going to treat myself to a dessert but dinner was so great, I'm full up. We live 30 minutes away but would definitely visit again. Went for a quiz night that was being hosted. Ended up having drinks and food. Great pricing and food was excellent, better than I expected with it being a Sunday and not choosing the carvery. A slight wait to order at the bar, but staff were kind and patient. They actually looked like they enjoyed working there

10 of us Stayed here for couple of nights to celebrate a 50th birthday . Rooms lovely , clean and spacious. Had lunch first day and breakfast in mornings very good ,service great. Staff very friendly . We walked into town and waterfront ( 30min) cabs very reasonable . A lovely weekend.

Very tasty and enjoyable food accompanied by excellent service and relaxing surroundings. Somewhat quiet, hence only four for the atmosphere.

Lovely, polite staff. Comfortable room, comfortable double bed. Plenty of pillows. Lovely to have tea and coffee facilities in the room but would have liked alternative milk too. (Almond/lactose free) and a bottle of water. There was only one hand towel and one bath towel for the two of us. Recommend the Chardonnay at the bar. Very good cooked breakfast. Overall, lovely atmosphere, excellent organisation and easy to book. Plenty of parking. Will definitely visit again. 😊

Staying here for a family wedding. The staff are friendly and very welcoming. Food was good and atmosphere very family orientated. Special mention to the two women on reception and behind the bar.

Came in for a couple of drinks with a friend, ended up staying for some food, the burger i had was delicious, perfectly cooked, and my server amanda was a delight, answering all questions i had quickly, and efficiently.

It's a nice pub/restaurant, I'm using it quite a bit now I'm spending time in Ipswich, staff are good, ordering food and beer is efficient. Beer a bit expensive and a small choice but good quality. Good selection of food and a very good carvery.

Just been in for a group function with buffet. Staff are really friendly, great selection of drinks and really pleased to see low alcohol ale for the husband who had one as he was driving. The buffet was amazing. Lovely selection and something for everyone. Would absolutely recommend The Mermaid. Thank you Liam and team.

Not for me, was expecting a little better than received.

Stayed in the hotel for a couple of nights. Room was clean and bed comfortable. Breakfast was the usual choice of cereals, various cooked breakfasts and croissants. I had a cooked breakfast. I didn’t want the black pudding or mushroom and was very pleased to be offered an alternative. Extra hash browns! Also had dinner, Hunters chicken washed down with a cold pint of Guinness.

Lovely lunch out for my birthday 🎈 Staff were attentive and friendly. food arrived quickly and was lovely. Family had the carvery which was all a bit dry but they said it was tasty.

Ok....So.... this is a gem of a pub.... Carvery and extensive menu with daily specials. Always busy. What sets this pub out from others locally is the staff. Liam, Shannon, Leo to name but a few. Everyone goes the extra mile to make your time here special, and that is worth its weight in gold. The food is as you would expect from a high turnover carvery, and believe me when I say, ITS GREAT.... the team here go above and beyond to make your visit memorable.

The staff are great, helpful and friendly. The food has much improved from the last time we came. The burger was juicy and full of flavour. I was actually too full to order dessert which rarely happens. The kids chose burgers and chips which they enjoyed. We sat at the back near the kids play area which made dining less stress as they could play and run about outside instead of waiting at the table. The kids made some new friends as kids do everywhere they go.

It was ok but had a lot better. furnishings need a refit looking a bit tatty

We had a lovely time, the food was lovely and hot and very delicious. I paid by debit card and used my Tastecard for 25% off the bill and the 25% discount didn't come off our bill for some reason. So we approached a member of staff to show them our receipt and she asked her manager about it. They offered us all free desserts or to do a refund of our previous transaction to then incorporate our desserts in the 25% off. So we decided to have free desserts, which were delicious 😋

Rather good pub, went there for a Carvery and on a Sunday. Good selection of vegetables which were all rather fresh and lovely. The food was also extremely good value for money.

Ordered a carvery at 8pm not realising the carvery finished at 8 however Ryan the chef was super accommodating in making sure fresh meat was available and all needs were met

Good alriound pub ....and good food and not silly little portions

Ordinarily I would be giving the Mermaid a 5 star review (and have on multiple previous visits). This was meant to be a wonderful Father's Day weekend meal with my daughter - but the mood was soured by comments from Dave at the carvery. He made comments to my daughter and myself about the size of portions we ordered. While it may not have been intended to come across as offensive to me it came off as misogynistic to my daughter, it was almost off-putting enough to discourage my daughter from eating. Otherwise, we have no complaints about the service or the food - Craig and Jay were accommodating and welcoming, and the manager also offered some and a heartfelt apology compensation. However, when Dave came out to apologise himself - he offered a reluctant and dismissive apology (excusing his comments as, "I was just trying to make conversation") where he refused to make eye contact with my daughter, whom he had offended.

As always, lovely staff so friendly and helpful. My daughter has allergies and this is always are safe place as we know what she can eat and we always get amazing food and service. I have never had a place wipe a table twice for people with allergies and this was amazing. I honestly can’t thank this place enough. Best place I have ever eaten and always such a lovely atmosphere.

Chefs there have to be the rudest staff I have ever. Sure I turned up 10 mins early for my order so knew I'd have to wait a couple minutes, I was then told I'd have to wait even longer by the chef as he wasn't doing my order till 8pm, despite the app I was ordering from staying 7:45 pick up. The FOH then tried arguing my corner and the chef raised his voice at me and her. can't fault the FOH as she was very apologetic and should be commended for her way she dealt with a difficult situation. But that "chef' needs a serious attitude check.

Food was 10/10. Liam, who served us, was extremely friendly and helpful. Really nice setting and a nice little play area for kids. The burger was amazing. Really lovely place

Went for a family birthday dinner. No problems booking at all. I suspect the chef was off and someone had to stand in. Beef was nice but the veg left a lot to be desired, peas looked gross and we had to ask for a couple of veg to be restocked. Not the best I've had there to be honest.

Chap at the counter was lovely and chatty, quality of food was very poor indeed! Beef tasted off, roasties were nasty, mash had no butter, gravy was goodish... Will not be returning.

Me and my family have been here multiple times and we have never had a bad experience here. Prices have gone up slightly but are keeping in line with everywhere else, not expensive. Friendly and attentive staff and great food!

Lovely meal, when paying Liam asked me if I had a voucher, which was great as I had forgotten all about it! Only downside would be general decor, the staff obviously do their best and toilets were clean, but decor in all areas of establishment are looking bit tired.

The prices have gone up. I waited ages at the bar to be served. There was only 1 member of the team. I paid and the girl did my drinks but walked off before giving me our tickets for the food so had to wait ages for her to come back. My teens were getting really irritated by the waiting. We got our food, but when I was served, there were no roast potatoes so I asked politely if I could wait and the chef got really edgy with me telling me I'd have to wait. Which I knew. I was just asking politely. Then he gave me the thinnest slithers of meat. The people behind me were given a lot more. They had also ordered medium plates. Kind of annoying. The potatoes also tasted weird. A little lagery, not sure why. Some people may like that, I wasn't keen. They're not normally like this. The drinks were both in different sized glasses, same size and prices but one coke and one lemonade, obviously this caused arguments between my girls. The prices have also really increased since my last visit. Prob won't visit again. Wasn't enjoyable. Sort of felt like I was an inconvenience and whilst trying to do a nice thing for my family, ended up listening to arguments.

Second lunch visit since the reopening after refurbishment. Nice town pub with pub classics on the menu. Well cooked, not expensive and no long wait time for the food. Two decent ales also helps. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Free parking.

Nice food Reasonably priced, friendly and polite staff but £6.80 for a pint of lager is taking the piss, that's airport price or London etc, so will not be going there again for that reason.

Came in with some friends for some food (the majority of which was lovely!) but when asking for a medium steak, was given what looked and tasted well done. On top of this we were greeted by a lady (unknown name) who acted hostile towards more than one of our party - she can only be described by having short hair/pixie cut, medium height and in her 30’s. She was quite rude and we caught her making faces to other members of staff while gesturing towards customers. The other members of the team were faultless!

Ok for cheap meal, We had a carvery, there was plenty there but not much meat and it was ok for the price. Unfortunately they don't sell alchol beer.which is why I gave it 3 stars overhaul
