I was visiting the area for the evening. Always love a flaming grill and as not had one for ages thought why not go to this one. I was told the food wait would be 30-45 mins that’s fine I thought will enjoy a cocktail but was told it was buy one get one free. I got a couple cocktails (purple rain and jammy fizz) and ordered the XL mix grill as there is no longer any challenges on this menu. The cocktails was lovely great taste and not too much ice which most places do. The food arrived in good time under the 30 mins which was a bonus. The hot plate for the meat wasn’t hot and there was a lot of fluid. The chicken and sausage didn’t impress the gammon a bit salty but the beet was a great cut and cooked just right. Chips nice and chunky the peas warm and nice onion rings. I had the peppercorn sauce which looked stodgy when tried it wasn’t that great not much of the pepper flavour. I later ordered the choc sundae which is smaller than they used to be, but still was nice Now the restaurant area was set out well but some of the chairs looks worn and not many matched. The reason I wanted to put this up really was the service. According to my recipe it was Noemi that served me and the area around me and she did a great job. As I said she told me it was 2 for 1 cocktails and very bubbly when talking. As I said both food and drink came in good time.

Apparently they have had a refurbishment. Its a shame they did not refurbish the staff to. Its not rocket science when 5 people order meals the staff decide only to bring out 4 and keep fobbing off where 5th one is. and using "darling" as a way to calm customer went out with del boy (plonkers) Poor poor service. Try refurbishing toilets too! 1970s retro does not work in the loo !!

Returned as new manager has taken over. It has changed for the best since we last went. Food was excellent and the service was very good with a very friendly staff. Real pleasure to go somewhere to receive this treatment.

We went to the Royal George yesterday (19th Jan) for a meal to celebrate our 12th wedding anniversary, was pleasently surprised when Liam showed us to our table and wished us a happy anniversary. Both drinks and food service was really good. A big shout out to the chef (top notch food) and our servers especially Annie. We walked away feeling special and looked after even though the pub was quite full with Sunday lunch diners.

The staff here are always prepared to go above and beyond for every customer. I work at the local care home and regularly bring residents here to enjoy a pub lunch which we always thoroughly enjoy. Staff, facilities and food are 10/10

Very average food, which should probably be expected for the low prices. Had a roast dinner and could tell immediately it wasn’t going to be great. It came out looking like a mass produced school dinner - cheap cuts of meat, with vegetables like you would steam from a frozen bag at home. The roast potatoes were probably the nicest part of the meal. The dessert (chocolate fudge cake) was also not great. You could pick something nicer up for £2 from a supermarket. We were kindly greeted at the door, but our main waitress (blonde/glasses) was pretty darn miserable and unenthusiastic. Would not recommend this place based on the food, though it’s nice and spacious inside, with ample parking.

We came a bit late (with reservation) and one waitress said kitchen is closed just to find out another waitress said kitchen is open, probably because she saw us leaving. Unfortunately we should expect not fresh food, felt like eating leftovers warmed in microwave. But worst thing was they give table next to us to drunk group of 6 elderly screaming, arguing and shouting like they own the place. I would say alright, not staffs fault, but when these people arrived like 30 minutes after us pub was almost empty.. Yeah, thank you for “great” evening, good luck and never again.

We had a family meal yesterday food come out not even warm and was not even that busy food when back then come out even worse 😔 been here before so this is the 1th time it's been poor but the staff was good

12-01-25 - 6pm. Blonde waitress with glasses, has a slapped sour face, rude, stood in front of me like a statue, supposedly to take my order. She just stood there! I asked if the chicken wings were spicy and her answer was they have no sauce on them. So is that a yes or no? As kfc wings don’t have sauce on and they are spicy! Once order placed she just walked off. Disgusting attitude!

We had dinner today as a family of 4 - the lady serving at the bar was lovely! Very kind and sorted our drinks nice and quickly I had a gluten free hunters chicken skillet and it was delicious not many places do a very good hunters chicken it’s normally very bland but this was so nice especially with the onions under! My partner had all day breakfast and mac and cheese and said it was really nice. All food came out very quickly and we all enjoyed the visit.

Over cooked my garlic ciabatta. Very mad, but good atmosphere, I heard jujustsu kaisen from a phone in the background and it made me happy. Next time put the heaters on - we had to eat in our coats and there was an icicle on my mac cheese.Bye

The staff are very welcoming and helpful. Just the right level of attention, ensuring we had drinks shortly after seating and then enough time to make our choices from the menu. The correct dishes were served and the food was hot and looked very appetising. The food was very tasty and filling. Even better value for money than usual as it was on a special BOGOF deal.

The steak and ale pie with mashed potato (smash), gravy and peas was a good meal for the price, the pastry was very good and the meat tasty. My daughter had chips with her meal that she said were soggy, which was strange. However, we were a party of 15 and most were happy with their food, certainly a very reasonable price. The cheesecake wasn't up to their usual standards, it was very dry and inedible. The service was good, friendly staff, food served quickly and everything hot.

Had been looking forward my night out with my friends, would not recommend the Royal George at all, we experienced cold, horrible food, poor service, 2 meals went back twice, staff were not bothered and not curious as to why they were sent back, the chips were cold and the burgers were tough as old boots and also cold, In the end we asked for a refund, after two weeks from our vist, and emails and phone calls we are still being fobbed off and waiting for our refund would rate this 0 stars not the minimum of 1 not even been offered an apology for our rubbish experience.

Fast and efficient service...friendly and helpful staff...nothing is too much trouble even if you walk in without a booking they will always find a table for you.

All the staff at The Royal George were fabulous for Christmas Day. There was a warm welcome upon arrival and the atmosphere was amazing. The food was delicious and plentiful. Well done everyone for making a special day special.

We've been here a few times and every time has been amazing. But, Christmas dinner today was something else! Pure perfection. The food was incredible, the staff were as amazing as always, toptear service. Thank you for making our Christmas day that little bit better!

Went here for a works Christmas meal, only four of us. Ordered via the app all easy and simple to do. Starter came out it was ok, main came out and it was stone cold. Burger was like ice and chips not much better, my friend the same. So sent it back came back out and it was cold again and like rubber it was disgusting and had an awful taste to it. We sent our meals back again and asked for a refund and was told I should get it back within 3-5 days. Waited that time no refund, messaged the pub on Facebook was told to wait till it had been 7 days. Still no refund, messaged them again told to wait until the following Monday making that 10 days. Still no refund. Called up and was told to wait again. I have messaged again and asked if I can just come and collect the cash because at this point I don’t see why I need to wait after Christmas as my meal was on the 14 of December. Not impressed at all!

spent 18 pound here yesterday for a turkey roast .very poor meal .served luke warm .not much gravy .no knifes provided .so we took them off the next table .positive the yorkshire pudding was nice but rest was not great .wont be returning here as it put me off luke warm food 😭😭

Just had a meal with some of my family . It wasn’t particularly busy but waited 40 mins for food after ordering . The chips on one plate were cold . The turkey roast was just warm with gravy that had to be spooned out as it was almost cold and solid .garlic bread was dry and hard could not be eaten or even cut with a knife . We did complain and given a discount but the food was not good especially as the place was not busy . Not a happy customer . The waitresses did their best but clearly the kitchen staff need to step up

It was a great night. Ian our server was fantastic, catered for all our needs. There was 12 of us, they got all food out at a good speed.

Three of us had our Christmas meal here on Friday, we had pre booked our food as it was going to be very busy. We were welcomed by smiling faces & promptly shown to our table, our drinks order was taken immediately & we were asked whether we wanted our meal straight away or would we like a while first. The table was ours for the evening so we didn’t feel rushed. We all had prawn cocktail starter which was a decent portion size, butter packs were solid but not a real complaint. Turkey with all the trimmings for mains, always disappointed to see frozen roasties but aside from that it was a lovely meal. Our table was decorated & we each had a cracker to pull, Christmas music playing in the background & a festive feel all round. No dessert for us so can’t comment on that. We would absolutely re visit

Came here for a xmas meal with my works,I had a turkey roast with the trimmings was very poor no mash potato and the roasts were frozen the turkey was disgusting not cut off a proper turkey that's for sure would not recommend

Good atmosphere, nice staff, and quick service, but unfortunately, the food was overcooked and tasteless.

Hygiene at this place is non existent. Glasses not washed caked in unknown liquids, tables sticky, salt and pepper also covered in unknown liquids. You can tell that the food comes straight from the freezer.

Staff are very warm and welcoming, food is great and a brilliant place to watch live sport highly recommended

I booked up a table for me and my family for a birthday meal and was so angry when I got a call ONE HOUR before my booking to say they weren’t serving food. Now I understand that things can happen but if they saw something happening in the kitchen earlier (the lady told me) I should’ve been contacted way before so I could find another restaurant for us to dine at as being a booking of 6 it can be tricky to find a short notice slot. Not happy

One word. AMAZING EDIT: Visited tonight, Thursday arriving around 6pm, hadn't booked but was ample tables and drinks order taken straight away. Was asked if we had the app or wanted table service, opted for table. :) No phones at the dinner table rule. Long story short, plates collected, no drink refils or desserts offered, and didn't see waitress again to ask. So we went else where for them as I promised the children puddings :) Finally flagged waitress down for the bill and she didn't seem to bother rushing to get it for us, her customer service skills seriously lacked, more communication would have been appreciated before just walking away once she offered a receipt! Shame since my last review was so good.

Looked after really well by manager creating a lovely atmosphere, relaxed , warming and great sense of humour . Table service by Annie who was delightful, friendly, helpful and nothing was too much trouble they squeezed us last minute on a busy day but didn't blink an eye lid over it. Chefs in kitchen did a great job all 9 of us absolutely loved all of our meals. We will back again soon

Had a family meal for my daughter’s 18th birthday 16 people. Lovely food all served at the same time. Staff were very friendly and polite. Would highly recommend for a large family occasion.

We went to the Royal George in Ipswich last night for a family meal. We were a very large group with lots of requirements. A pre-order had been submitted in advance but we had some on the day amendments and the team handled this perfectly. We were greeted warmly and the team provided us with exceptional service. I’d like to make a special mention to Kaci for taking the lead role in handling our enquiries. She communicated well with us and made sure everything was right with our orders. There were absolutely no issues and everything really did run as smooth as it could. We did thank Kaci and team but we thought it was worth expressing this feedback on Trip Advisor also. Highly recommended for accommodating large groups, we have already booked again to go back in December!

I always bring Dad hereafter he has had an appointment at the hospital. He loves the food here, and was even more pleased when Hannah pointed out that they have a menu for seniors offering smaller portions. As an older gent he has a much smaller appetite. Hannah is always very efficient and helpful, and the food is always very good. It’s excellent value for money. I would strongly recommend this pub.

Went to a wake there . Gluten free food is very poor just sandwiches. Which were not very nice. Went to Douglas Bader to wake Monday before, very good. Nice rolls, chicken pieces, potato balls, chips . And as it should put on a separate table so no contamination.

We hosted our late mother's funeral wake here on Friday afternoon. We were a large party of over 70 guests, but the staff were really good, efficient and friendly. The buffet was excellent with plenty of good high quality food.

Came to the Royal George in Ipswich for my daughters birthday and the service we all received was truly wonderful. Annie the waitress went above and beyond and involved others in singing happy birthday with a birthday cake. Definitely deserves a big credit and mention. Just had a really lovely meal. Yes it was busy but we couldn't fault the service. Our waitress was great & as it was a birthday celebration, they were happy to present a cake & got other guests to join in singing. A great atmosphere, good food & decent prices.

Nice pub, service was quick and staff were friendly. Loved my starter, chicken taco, was nice. Lots of food with the main, I struggled to finish it all but was able to take it away in box which was good. Would recommend :)

We went as a family of 5 and one was a baby , more than enough room for the pram and very friendly staff and accommodating. Food was lovely and hot / fresh and good price and Hannah are waitress was excellent, always making sure are food was ok and servied hot . 10/10 and would definitely be going again .

I'm not a local but visit Royal George every time I come to see my dad. Friendly environment, food good and price pretty competitive. They also serve my favourite zero alchohol sparkling wine/prosecco!

I come here every Monday with my family and occasionally with friends. The staff are always friendly and they remember my sons order of cappuccinos and no cheese in his burger. We were served by Hannah today, she's always lovely, working hard and nothings too much trouble.

Just had a lovely Ribeye steak that was cooked to perfection, thanks to the servers recommendation, thanks to the chef too. Brilliant staff that are happy, cheerful and willing to go beyond. Will definitely visit again and recommend to my friends. Huge well done and thank you 😊

I went with my family for a birthday meal and overall the food was great! we’ve always been coming here over the years! we noticed some issues on the bill so we spoke to a lovely lady called Annie who dealt with the situation amazingly, she is such a lovely lady and very professional we was glad she was our waitress for the evening

Worst service i have witnessed. pre ordered food weeks ago as advised by Royal George only to be told on the day that they haven't got 90 percent of the food we preordered left. Management was abrupt , unhelpful and bad mannered. Avoid at all costs

We used to really love the Royal George but it is now under new management and well what a shame! The menu has changed and all the usual staff were no where to be seen which was a clear indicator of new management which was later confirmed by our waitress. Obviously we had reasonably high expectations as only ever had positive experiences at this restaurant but after todays meal we shall not be back in a hurry! I ordered a 8oz Gammon skillet which should have come on a skillet of fried onions. Unfortunately despite this being the description of the meal I received a regular gammon steak which was burnt. Burgers looked nothing like the picture on the menu. Presentation and portion sizes were disappointing. All in all a real shame as there isn’t many good places to eat in Ipswich anymore.
