The Beagle in Ipswich

We were staying in the Premier Inn next door so booked for dinner here. It seemed very busy when we walked in but we were greeted warmly, seated and a drinks order taken very promptly. The service was attentive throughout and the food was delicious. Definitely recommend.

This is a great pub/restaurant if you’ve never been, located on the outskirts of Ipswich. The food was fantastic, with 3 of us ordering the excellent fish & chips. Service from Tabs was superb, she really was so attentive & funny.

The food was less than acceptable but the service was impeccable. Tab is an amazing member of staff who we hope is recognised and rewarded for her skill and work ethic. Without her we would not of given The Beagle a single star

Dinner after a hard day on the road. Seared Sea Bass with prawns (2) Soggy skin on fish, certainlynot seared. Spoke to waitress, she said they had had some complaints it was a bit dry, so chef was going a little the other way! Disappointed 😥

Came here for a Sunday roast (and a burger). Lovely generous portions...no room for pudding! Everything very well cooked and service was super friendly and polite. The beef was served a bit too pink for the hubby...but he polished it all off all the same and we had a really lovely time. Will be back!

Well……. What can I say but absolutely fabulous! Tab went above and beyond. She deserves a major reward and recognition for her customer service. I flew all the way from Perth Australia to enjoy a good quality meal with family at the Beagle and Tab just made it that extra special. We need more people like Tab. Bloody brilliant! I really do hope you look after her and reward her for the hard work and dedication. She is a true asset to your company. Thank you again Tab you are such a beautiful soul.

Loved it today so much better than the last time and the service was great, Tab really looked after us today, she's a credit to the Beagle.

The whole experience was excellent, the starters and mains were loverly. The crumble was delicious. The only thing I would suggest to improve anything was the cheesecake could do with a little more coulee and pouring cream rather than pre whipped.

Excellent food thank you chefs, excellent service from Tabs (Tabitha) who can actually wiggle her nose!! Our 10th anniversary was made extra special thank you Team Beagle!

We had Tab serve us and she made us feel very comfortable! She made us laugh a lot and sat us next to the heater where we were nice and warm. Food was delish and came very quick!

Lovely family meal out, excellent food choice and all meals tasted fab. Served by Tom, who was super friendly and attentive. Efficient service even though it was a busy Friday night. Will definitely return.

If people don't know the food they are serving is not good why work there is something really wrong

A nice place, away from the city.

Met up with friends for a few drinks ok pub staff friendly. Was mid week so not very busy. Did not have a meal.

You need to sort out the food quality and make sure you don't serve fish and chips cold, hardly any fish in the batter, steak not cooked properly, and very tough. staff are very nice and apologised, can't blame them, they replaced our meal with freshly cooked one but You need to work on your food quality, not sure about the rest of the menu, but we were unlucky with our choice, sorry.

Lovely mother's day meal, thanks to Tom for the amazing service. Really appreciate the attention he gave us!

Sunday 23rd March The food looked amazing, and probably would of tasted so much nicer if it was hot, unfortunately was Luke warm, we had the roast and the only thing that was hot was the cauliflower cheese, which came out separately, The carrots were full length and cut in half length ways so very large which would be fine if they were cooked properly, they were too hard to cut through, the beef was overcooked and tough, Our waitress was absolutly fantastic, couldn't fault her, didn't like to complain about the food as she was lovely.

Met with friends and enjoyed a very nice meal. Tab, our server, was very helpful and patient as we were all so busy chatting! Food was very good and represented excellent value for money. Overall I would recommend and we will be back again soon.

Found by a random road sign thought we would give it a try. Warm welcome on entry. Food was amazing. Service from Tab was amazing. Good quality food at a reasonable price. Will definitely be returning in the future. Can recommend the sea bass and hunters chicken.

Visited on a Friday lunchtime. Food was excellent. Home cooked and very flavoursome. Despite being very busy, our waitress, Tab, provided excellent service, was very pleasant and very attentive. The only reason atmosphere has dropped a star, is due to being sat next to a very large birthday party (this wasn't an issue), so therefore it was a little bit louder than it may have normally been. A very enjoyable visit. Highly recommend.

We had a family gathering for two birthday celebrations and had a fabulous Sunday afternoon. Our waitress Ruth worked her socks off serving 19 people she was calm and very friendly. Well done Ruth.

I didn't like my dish. I had the steak sandwich unfortunately I found the pickled pink onions invisible. But the taste of vinegar was overpowering and made the bread soggy. Having said this, my partner had the hunters chicken, which he enjoyed. The chips were hot and tasty. Despite being busy the waiting staff were excellent.

Wow, I hadn't been for years as it had gone downhill and I never returned. That was until recently when I was completely bowled over. The food, service, and atmosphere was fabulous. I've raved to others and I'm sure they will get booking very soon if not already.

The service (2 waitresses) , food (cook) and drinks was outstanding on the evening of our visit , the 3rd March 2025 . Can’t thank you enough for a pleasant meal . Even managed to squeeze a pudding in too! 😉👌

Lovely little pub, this is our second visit. We really enjoyed the food, although the Halloumi fries were not very pleasant the rest of our meals were lovely. Our waitress was Tab who is friendly and very helpful and welcoming. I think when it does become busy you tend to wait a while in between your orders, but we were not in a rush so that’s ok for us. Overall enjoyable food & a friendly atmosphere.

The food was delicious, we had Kirsty M serving and she was very friendly and helpful.

Food was good and reasonably priced, service was good until the end of the meal. We paid partly in cash and one of the waiters took the change which was £14.00 and just assumed it was a tip. We waited patiently for the change back but it got to about 15 minutes later and we saw the waitress return to the till multiples time and there was still no change given. At this rate we had no other option but to ask for our change. We asked a different waiter for our change he then followed it up, shortly after our waiter gave us the change. However this wasn’t pleasantly given to us it was near enough chucked on the table and she was completely silent, sighing as she walked off. This came across very rude and completely ruined our experience, we definitely won’t be returning.

We have used The Beagle several times and always had a good experience but sadly today the food was a big let down. The steak pie meat was tough and impossible to chew while the sirloin steak was impossible to cut even with a steak knife. The staff were excellent as always and the "offending" items were removed from the bill without argument. The lamb shank was excellent so I'm not sure what went wrong.

Nice decor and clean. My partner had ham egg and chips that he enjoyed. My Mac and cheese was tasty but portion size was very small. There was about a teaspoon of beef brisket sprinkled on top. Considering this was meant to be a main meal costing £17, I had higher expectations. What was presented to me by my miserable server was what I would expect for a child's meal. I did express my disappointment to the staff. Sadly, they were unable to help resolve the problem of my lack of dinner and growling belly after a long day at work. Therefore forcing me to buy more food that I didn't really want, just to fill myself up more.

Good was ok but the service was lacking, very slow. They need servers! It wasn't that busy.

Food was lovely. Would recommend the lamb shank and spring onion mash. We had the crumble for dessert and the banana crème choux pastry was a big hit. The building is beautiful, wooden beams, a fire and fairy lights. Lush. Service was awesome, very attentive and great banter. (Thanks Tab ) Will definitely be back.

Had the Sunday Roast Beef. Good portions, nicely cooked and very filling, but unfortunately when it arrived food was lukewarm and not hot, served on plate that was not very warm. Somewhat disappointed for this reason only as otherwise all nice. Would go again but maybe not have the roast in the hope that another choice would be served hot. Thank you.

I have been to The Beagle several times and each time I have been served by a waitress called Tab.. she is a fantastic waitress and goes above and beyond anyone I have ever been served by..

The food should have been warm as just came out of the kitchen . Had to send it back as the turkey on my meal was Luke warm . The gravy was not nice at all . The staff member called Kay was very nice and attentive though

I hadn't been to the Beagle for a long time then ended up eating here twice in a week. Mixed feelings unfortunately, First time server was very good but food came out cold (scallops)and when replacement food came out the other members of the party had nearly finished. Second time food was hot and very good but server sadly seemed cold!

Brisket sandwiches and chips, good quality and friendly service from Tab, who seated and served us with a confident, friendly style . All good.

As a frequent traveller for work and am subjected to a whole range of levels of service and food quality I was overjoyed to come to somewhere who puts the customer 1st! The food is really good quality - this is our 3rd Sunday dinner in about 6 weeks and everyone has been superb with special mention to the lovely thick refillable gravey!! I must also give a special mention to Kay our waitress. As mentioned i travel every week for work and typically find very poor service from staff. However this is NOT the case with Kay! She has a great eye for detail and notices when we needed more drinks / more gravey / menu for desserts / wanting the bill without us having to attract her attention. Food and drinks were served efficiently without a long wait and also with humour and a pleasant serving manner. This was a lady who was happy in her work and enjoyed on seeing her customers were satisfied - a far cry from typical serving staff who leave you wondering why they ever choose a job in the service industry as they clearly do not enjoy dealing with people! Thank you Kay and the team at the Beagle for a wonderful Sunday lunch (again) and for restoring my faith in waitresses that they can be happy in serving their customers!

Great service from Tab very friendly and efficient and food lovely and piping hot. Four stars.Myself and my friend enjoyed both our two courses each.Only very slight thing is with my 1st cup of tea I got 2 small bite size flapjack pieces and with 2nd tea I only got 1 .Other than that it was perfect.

Food was good, even for slightly awkward diners, service friendly. Slightly expensive over £30 for 1 adult, 1 child meal and soft drinks only, but would go again.

We come on the 17th January for my cousins 40th birthday for lunch. From start to finish the service was outstanding. Our server was Tab. She went above and beyond making sure our visit was great, she also sung happy birthday for us! This was our first visit here and will definitely be returning! Thank you!

Just visited not accepting walk ins. No signage to say no bar food available was told after we had bought our drinks. Absolutely joke. Will be never ever come back and considering they were incredibly quiet. Disgrace and waste of money for the drinks we left!!!!

Been looking fo a decent Sunday Roast around Ipswich, today we found one 😋 Lovely traditional pub with roaring fires and good staff. Food was great, complements to the chef.

As a party of 21, we weren't expecting such friendly, personal service. Kerry was very attentive. Nothing was too much trouble for her. The food was excellent and we were given all the time we needed and never felt rushed. Highly recommend this place.
