Best service, best atmosphere and a great place to spend an afternoon

Great atmosphere and friendly staff, my favourite pub in Ipswich for a drink on Friday.

Lovely venue, really nice choice of meals at a fair price. Our waitress Kay was exceptional, made you feel at home straight away, great sense of humour and clearly knew her job inside out. Meals arrived quickly, good sized portions, compliments to the chef too.

Just visited again today, with an friend who isn't local. Sometimes i think i overlook the Beagle because i am local. So credit where it's due, the food was delicious and i thoroughly recommend the fishcakes and sticky toffee pudding (need a little sleep now). But the awesome service (along beautiful smiles and good banter) we received from our waitress Tab, made it an even more enjoyable lunch and catch up. Additionally top marks awarded for checking everything was OK with my allergy. Thanks again I'll definitely be back again soon.

On Arrival we were met by a gentleman behind the bar who looked at us like we were an inconvenience to him pouring his drinks order, which was not a good start to having a meal in your restaurant . When we asked if we could have a table we were told in no uncertain terms go to the hostess counter and they will sort one for you, all of the time we were there he wandered round with a dirty rag hanging out of his pocket with a face like to wet weekend in June. Once we were taken to our table Kirsty took our order and was extremely pleasant, welcoming, attentive and was extremely polite and efficient and the service she supplied was exceptional, a true asset to your business. I have to say if the first face you meet is so miserable it spoils everyone’s evening so would suggest a change to your front of house which would actually make your place more inviting and warm.

Last night we wanted to go for a meal somewhere close to home. We chose to come here and it did not disappoint! It was very busy for a Sunday and staff doing their absolute best. Had a 30 min wait on food between each course but didn’t bother us. We had a two course meal, starters were amazing we got the oven baked mushrooms and sticky chicken. Delicious and hot! Then the mains came out… the roast pork did NOT disappoint, the whole plate was packed full of flavour, honey roasted carrots and parsnips and the cauliflower cheese was an amazing side dish! And I must say it was an amazing portion size. My partner got a burger and he was also very pleased with his too, a decent amount of fries, a couple of onion rings. I wish I had room for dessert! Would go back again 100%.

Food was perfect. Lots to choose from on the menu. Reasonable prices. Lovely atmosphere. Our waitress, (Tab) was the best waitress ever and brilliant with my little boy.

Lunch bar snacks very nice, and puddings lovely. Slight wait for food but obviously needing more staff.

I had a chicken burger without the bun but the chicken was rock hard and virtually impossible to cut so I left it. My friends had fish and the batter was burnt. A very poor meal and I wouldn't return

I love the Beagle for Sunday lunch. A meal with home cooked flavour, excellent Yorkshire so, parsnips and roast potatoes. I always ask for extra gravy.

Food took over an hour to arrive, when it did items were missing others were cold. When we told the waitress she was disinterested and refused to serve us. Was rectified by manager and the waiter we were then assigned was good but will not be going back.

Seated straight away Excellent service the food was first class, and cooked to my specification,and the staff were excellent ,literally yards to walk from Premier Inn virtually attached . Be careful when leaving the exit on B1113 ,they come around the roundabout to the left, and there is a blind spot, due to the bushes to the right, as the council won't cut them back same joint exit for the beagle and Premier Inn

Well I have to say tabs was amazing! The service her attitude towards me jovial but professional made my visit amazing! We need more tabs in places like this! We visited here , just for drinks so we cannot comment on the restaurant or food. However from arrival at around 8.00pm to departure, not one of the staff showed a smile. From ordering drinks , at £40 , per round, x 3 , there was no pleasant smile , social chat, nothing. As someone else has previously mentioned its seems like an arduous task to be providing service. I've never worked behind a bar and can imagine times can be busy. But come on. Provide a smile to your customer's. After all, it costs nothing.

Enormous area to dine but nicely sectioned. The staff were amusing and friendly. The food good and served promptly.

Absolutely shocking. Booked a table for 17:00. Was told to wait at the bar and to grab ourselves a drink. We waited for a further 25 minutes with no response from staff. Dealing with an hungry stressed child, staff could see he was Distressed. Always thought highly of this place but will definitely not be returning.

Will give anther go but last time was not up to standard hopefully they will keep it to par next time

We are not local but when we are down that we we always eat at the beagle, great food and Tab was a fantastic server a credit to the beagle

Had a lovely lunch meal. 2 courses & a drink only £23 each. Meal made all the more wonderful due to excellent service from Tabs......she even put a candle in my friend's dessert as it was her birthday, so thoughtful :)

Food was very good, although brocoli was very hard but when this was pointed out they fixed it immediately. Excellent service and nice to find some alcohol free options.

Was served by TAB, she is an amazing waitress and made our experience 10 x better. Very knowledgeable about the food, extremely helpful and was very understanding! 10/10 would recommend and will most definitely be returning.

semi frequent flyer here however the service tonight was terrible. i understand if there is a delay with food however the waitresses were extremely unapologetic and quite frankly rude. as i said previously a delay with food is one thing, but watching the tables around us who sat after us receive starters AND mains before we had even received our starters was irritating and then being told it was the soup that they were waiting for. Soup! an hour! The food was ok, some aspects could have been hotter but it was the terrible service from rude staff tonight that let the restaurant down!

The car park was very full, so struggled to a space. All staff were helpful and friendly. The table, atmosphere and food were all excellent. We moved to the bar area after eating, which was comfortable and relaxing.

We were staying in the nearby Dog friendly Holiday Inn and wanted a local Dog friendly pub.. . The Beagle was nearby and so off we went. We wanted to walk with the dog but couldn't as there was no footpath and had to book a taxi.. . Which was a shame. The bar area is a cosy relaxing area and very Dog friendly with water and snack area. We decided on the comfy leather sofas as our dog loves a sofa. We chose a few starters and lamb and steak for main.. . The Food was great and the staff were friendly. A great overall experience

Ordered via just eat, phone the restaurant and the lady on the phone was terrible, i mean terrible customer service, laughed and said she didn't know what more she could do. Ordered before the restaurant was open and won't have our food until 4.50. Lesson don't order via just eat !!!!. Better be good food 😒 Update food is going to be even later 3.15 now!!!

terrible want a refund. restaurant blaming you for a driver. never using again via just eat. food was terrible too and I have told restaurant who should be contacting you

Ordered sirloin steak, waited nearly 50 minutes. And asked for a medium rare. Steak turns up cold and very well done. I'm not recommending getting a steak in this pub. Kitchen chef should know how to cook a steak.... worst steak ever tried. Mushrooms were heated in the microwave.... avoid

We just had the most beautiful lunch,we all had different mains and all 3 were beautifully cooked and generous amounts of lovely veg. Tab our lady that looked after us was attentive on the ball and delightful . Will definately be back.

First visit. Really impressed! Lovely atmosphere as you walk through the doors and we were welcomed and seated straightaway. We were served by a lady named Tab who did everything to make sure we had a lovely meal. Will definitely visit again soon and highly recommend.

Ordered food same time as my daughter and think they lost my order as it took ages . My daughter had already finished her food but that wasn’t the only thing .it was my first time at beagle. Was just about to walk in doors and ask and staff member were food I ordered was when brought it out say oh we are very busy in kitchen . Don’t know how long it takes to fill a wrap and do chips but felt like ages . Then had to go back in to ask were cutlery and sauces was . which she said outside which means help yourself and not I will just get you some and would you like any sauces . Some in end I found were sauces and cutlery was keep outside and checked fridge for mayo which was none and couldn’t find vinegar . By time got back to my table I felt very disappointed and not wanting my wrap and chips . Beagle hasn’t lifted a great impression for my first time there .

Lovely old pub, ample parking, wheel chair accesable, 1st class traditional English food, friendly service definitely going again

A family member came over from USA for a visit and we all met up at the Beagel for lunch. Although it was pretty busy the service from our waitress was excellent, the atmosphere very pleasant and the food delicious. Between us we had the smoked Haddock and spinach fishcakes, the avocado salad, chicken and vegetable penang curry, a pizza and fish and chips. We also enjoyed several deserts including mini pudding with coffee, mango and passion fruit eton mess and vanilla creme brulee. My meal was gluten free as I'm a coeliac and the waitress was very helpful. A lot of the dishes on the menu had a gluten free option so I had a lot to choose from.

Eaten here over many decades! Quick welcome,taken to table and given menu. Orders taken effectively. Food arrives very quickly, nicely presented. Staff come round to check all in ok. Restaurant used to do dark couldn't read the menu, but now very light with added lights. All very clean. Large amount of tables outside.

Thanks for fitting us in Kirsty. 4 hungry kids fed very fast!

Lovely food, great attentive service

Firstly, the food was absolutely excellent. Delicious, hot, absolutely tip top. However, the service was just poor I’m afraid to say. It took half an hour to take our order and only after we had complained which was responded to in an impolite way. All in all the meal took over two and a half hours, which was mostly waiting. I prefer a leisurely meal but there was just four of us and this took it to an extreme. In addition, whenever we asked for empty glasses to be taken away it was again carried out in a rude manner. We heard our waitress ask for a review from another table. She didn’t ask us so maybe she already knew there was little point. Again the food was excellent but sadly the service left too much to be desired. I would avoid.

Busy Saturday night but bit of a disappointment

We had the most excellent service from Tab, very attentive and caring. Food was superb too.

Working away can be an absolute pain but to find a nice pub with good food and beer is an essential. This pub ticks ✔️ all of the above

The restaurant appeared to be understaffed, as we had to wait for about five minutes before being seated while staff while walking past and through us. When the waitress finally approached us, she made no effort to engage with us, no eye contact, no smile, just a flat 'You okay, guys?' while searching on the computer. Wouldn't serve my 19 year old brother a beer even though he was sitting having a meal with four other adults. Took ages to take our food order, then even longer to receive the starters. 'Crispy potatoes' with the fish dish turned out to be hard boiled mush while the fish and prawns themselves were of course flavourless. Served with a 'Creamy white wine sauce', runny slop. Fish cakes were extremely dry and bland, presumably all from a vacuum pack in the freezer. The bacon and mushroom sauce I had with my steak didn't resemble either of these ingredients, it was just dark coloured water. Overall, it was an underwhelming experience that left us wishing we had just cooked at home.

The wonderful waitress named Tab shared her fanny with me in the restaurant and it cooled me off to the point that I loved my meal thank you very much

Turned up at 5.30 hardly anyone eating. One member of staff behind the bar. Ordered quickly. Waited for our food which took far longer than it should have done. Food arrived cold and dry. Mine was ‘edible’ just. My partners was not. I’d finished mine and his still hadn’t arrived!!! Poor poor poor!!!! No one seemed to care about our issues or any one else’s. It’s was a Monday !!!!!!! Not acceptable

We went out for a family meal last night which we thoroughly enjoyed. The food was really lovely and the restaurant is nice with a cosy vibe. Our waitress, Ella, was really great as she was helpful, kind and funny and genuinely went the extra mile to ensure we had a good night. Thank you very much for such an amazing and enjoyable evening and we will definitely be coming back again. :)

A drop in quality over what they used to be, based on this latest visit. Hunters chicken was rubbery and dry, poorly battered. Sea bass was overcooked and also dry.

Great food & great service. Our waitress was Lauren, She was very polite, friendly & helpful. Definitely eat here again.

I love this place and stay at the premier inn next door just to eat here. I stay away a lot with work and it’s nice to eat somewhere were the food doesn’t taste processed. Everyone is always friendly and this evening Kay went out her way to look after me. Thank u all again & c u soon.
