recently visited the Lord Nelson Pub in Ipswich, and it was a truly enjoyable experience. The pub, located in the heart of Ipswich, has a charming and cozy atmosphere that makes you feel instantly at home. The interior combines traditional and modern touches, with wooden beams, dim lighting, and rustic furniture that create a relaxed and welcoming vibe. The staff were friendly and attentive, greeting me with a smile and ensuring I had everything I needed throughout my visit.

Saturday 16th April 2022 I visited this Ipswich pub on the water front, which sells ample beers straight from the barrels. This pub has to be one of the best pubs to come to in Ipswich to drink real ales Great interior, easy listening jazz music, honest decent local following, and good staff Saturday 16th August 2024 This pub again revisited by me This great pub as before had a good range of gravity real ales on offer, and the pub was a good eatery place A decent, well-used pub for eating and drinking tonight It is a pleasure to come and drink real ales in when in when drinking real ales in Ipswich tonight

Absolutely poop On arrival we enquired about the kitchen and if they were still serving. This was approx 7:45 on Saturday. Was told yes, serving until 9pm. However there was a "large" table of 10 which were ahead of us. No worries we thought so we ordered a drink and sat down. 10min later went to order food and were told that the chef was overwhelmed with the table of 11 and we would have to wait 30 min before attempting to order. The woke waitress refused to take our order despite us saying that we were happy to wait. 20 min later we were told that the kitchen would not accept any further food orders as the chef was overwhelmed. We left taking our business elsewhere. A quick tally for the four of us would have been >200 quid easily. Would not recommend anyone to come here. Oh and Up The Villa!

I went for the best pub food around! A basic lasagne was served with fresh salad, with crispy garlic bread. A pint of real ale to wash it down and substantial change from £20. Absolute bargain and not to be compared with those boozers who sell mass-produced frozen offerings for slightly less. Great value for me!

I've eaten here twice in the last couple of months. Both times were in the evening and the meals were enjoyable and good value. As a sailor, I was entitled to 10% reduction on the food bill, which is a real sweetener. In addition there were four to six keg beers available. I find the atmosphere and the staff very good and when in Ipswich will have another meal at The Admiral.

Sunday lunch here was absolutely fabulous. My partner wanted the roast beef and I was going for the roast pork, both with all the trimmings. However, when I ordered I was asked how I wanted the roast beef, well done medium or rare? Stunned, I quickly changed the order to 2 x roast beef , one medium and one rare for me. It was probably the most memorable and tasty Sunday roast beef lunch I have ever had. I also ordered the Cauliflower cheese as a side to go with it which was cooked perfectly, not hard and not mushy, just perfect and baked cheddar on top. The kale, roast parsnips, carrots, roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding were all wonderful. The beef was plentiful and sliced thickly. Wow. I highly recommend this place to anyone wanting a high quality Sunday roast. All the craft cask beers were perfectly presented also if you are a real ale drinker. Each pint was tip top.

We have visited the Lord Nelson on a few occasions, in fact every time we are in Ipswich. We always look forward to going. Its an old fashioned friendly pub. Sadly, this time we noticed how expensive it had become just for a glass of wine and a glass of beer. We were going to have a meal but the prices for pub food we though were very expensive. We appreciate that costs have risen but even where I live we do not pay these prices.

Outstanding service from the bartender/waitress and the chef in the kitchen. The pub may not look very nice from the outside but this is the furthest from the truth once inside, it is a very warm and welcoming place. My wife and I have some food allergies and when attempting to place an order the waitress came over to our table to ask what mains we would like, then went to the kitchen and spoke with the chef to confirm what we could eat. After she checked we asked about the sweet chilli and coconut chicken as we hadn’t spotted it before, she came back to say that the chef couldn’t 100% tell us what was in it as the other chef had cooked this batch so wasn’t confident with serving it. We found this to be excellent customer service, we bought them both a drink each. I had the gammon steak with pineapple and my wife had the scampi. We both really enjoyed our mains. They were also serving apple and pineapple crumble but the chef let our waitress know that the crumble contained butter but he offered a change and used biscoff biscuits to make the crumble instead. It was delicious!

Lovely ancient building with good quality decor. A log burner and romantic lighting makes this a couples date night go-to. The beer (cask ale) is perfectly kept and poured by delightful young, local staff. Spotlessly clean and the food is pub classics to a high standard. Tonight’s special was ‘crab linguine’. Well worth a couple of beers, just expect above average prices and nearby opportunist parking charges if you’re driving.

This has fast become my favourite place for a Sunday roast in Ipswich. Generous portions of meat and vegetables and usually a crumble of the day to finish. I generally have a red wine and my partner has a guiness. The guiness is good (apparently it varies from place to place but this gets the thumbs up). Serves until 7pm on a Sunday. Prices are reasonable.

Very shocked at how this pub has changed for the worse since l moved away last year. No hand drawn beers here like there used to be and a "new" menu with a limited choice of dishes and very expensive. Eighteen pounds for fish and chips is well above the going rate in my opinion, regardless of quality. The beer l ordered, Mighty Oak Pale Ale, tasted acidic and past its best, and really quite unpleasant. I had arranged to meet my cousins here for lunch and drinks next weekend, and l am now quite relieved that they have cancelled due to personal issues. I used to love this pub and used it regularly when l lived in Ipswich, and had some great times here. I will not be returning.

First off, this is a nice old pub - a proper pub. Thought we’d give the food a go one night. To be fair, the food was pretty good but for the prices, you could have gone to a ‘proper’ restaurant and got pimped up versions. I think they need to realise they are a pub and price accordingly. But, to reiterate, decent enough food.

We have not been able to get to our favourite pub due to a physical ailment that prevented my husband from walking. We were so excited to be able to finally get there and immediately decide fish and chips were needed. We’ve eaten this dish many times before but on this occasion I was disappointed. The fish was lovely but the chips tasted as if they’d been cooked a lot earlier and were actually only lukewarm. The prices had crept up I think because three fish and chip meals, two pints and a white wine spritzer costs £71. Not for the faint hearted I think. That sort of money is a lot for a meal that was at best only very average so I think next time we will just stick to the beer. I might add, their beer is always excellent and the service this time was also a lot better than it has been in the past. Other times we’ve eaten it’s taken far too long to clear the table and dirty plates had been pushed to the side for well over half an hour after we had all finished. We continue to visit purely because it’s one of the only decent pubs for miles. The waterfront pubs are really just places to be seen rather than venues that have real pub ambience. The real atmosphere of a traditional pub is fast fading and the Lord Nelson is one of only a few that still have this genuine warmth.

We attended as a party of 7, prebooked for the festive menu. The restaurant was very quiet but our table was not set up ready for us. A waitress arrived and handed cutlery and a poor excuse for a cracker. Starters finally were brought out which were quite acceptable. Our main course was a different story 6/7 had the hanging turkey which was stone cold and the vegetables were barely edible. The desserts were OK. I will not be returning any time soon.
