Situated in a lovely little village, this shop and tearoom are in an idyllic setting. When looking at previous reviews I noticed that the most recent was from 2019, and wondered if the tearoom is still open. On a Tuesday in November it wasn’t, and as the “tearoom closed” sign said just that, I don’t know if they run limited hours or days in the off-season or if the tearoom is permanently closed. I would certainly suggest that you make a phone call in advance of any proposed visit.

We’ve been here before on previous visits to the area and were keen to come again. It’s nothing fancy or pretentious just friendly service and delicious food. Always a good choice of cakes and tray bakes. We also had lunch here one day after a walk. The cheese scones are among the nicest I’ve ever had. Would certainly recommend it

What a little gem of a place. Off the beaten track with three little shops surrounding cafe. Toilets are provided . Not seen disabled toilet as sat outside in garden area. Wheelchair accessible. Would recommend cream scone and what I call proper tea . Dog friendly. Staff are friendly and helpful. Worth a visit

Hesket Newmarket is about as far off the beaten track as you can get and have a post office. Whilst I posted urgent keys for next day delivery I bought local beer, local apple juice, gluten free cake and soup. We could have eaten in and the place was spotless but we did not have time. The gluten free Ginger Bread was moist and fresh. The soup was really good. The ladies who served me were lovely. What is not to like. Support our Post Offices.

We arrived at the perfect time on a Saturday morning and the scones were just out the oven. The aroma greeting us told us straight away. We ordered 2 scones (jam and cream!) and 2 coffees. They were simply the best scones we have had for ages and superb coffee too. In fact if there's 2 or more of you, the cream serving is so generous that I suggest only 1 of you order with cream. Perfect start to our day away in north Cumbria. Definitely worth a visit.

Beautiful village centred around the village green and market cross. Tranquil surroundings. The tea room is clean and lovely pleasant staff. Shop attached which has a range of goods also. Had coffee, wife had a cheese scone also which was superb. We were there around 12.30 and the smell of baking was gorgeous. This is one of those places you should not miss.

Really lovely people running a great local shop and tea room. Go and enjoy. Nothing too much trouble. Worth a stop for a paper and a coffee.

We knew of this little tearoom from previous visits, so were able to make it a lunch stop during a lengthy walk. Straightforward but tasty sandwiches and tea set us up for the return walk. Not open on Sundays.

My husband and I called in for a scone and coffee after our walk and it was very pleasant. It is just a small place, part of the local shop / post office, but the bakes are all home made and very delicious!! I had a plain scone and my husband had a fruit scone, both equally delicious 😋

We had intended to go to the pub at Hesket Newmarket but it was closed. A local pointed us in the direction of the tea shop so we pooped in for a cuppa and a sandwich. The staff were lovely as were the sandwiches, coffee was fine too. Its only a small place attached to the village shop/post office but so glad we found it as we had travelled quite a distance, shame about the pub being closed though.

While our 1 day stay in Hesket Newmarket we also visited the little Tearoom and had a light snack there. What can I say....the sandwiches where made fresh by a friendly lady, there was a good chutney on the cheese and a small salat and bowl of crisps on the side.... I love the thought that ppl living together in such a small community work together and do something for each other and I really appreciate the existence of shops n Tearooms like this one ... Go on with your good work!

The best dog friendly cafe in the lakes. Gorgeous food and the warmest welcome. This is our go to place when walking in the north lakes. All of the food always hits the spot but the cakes are just gorgeous!

Thought we would give this place a try as we saw it when coming back from Lodore Falls a few weeks ago and thought location was good. Booked Sunday lunch for 2 adults and 2 teenagers as a pre-Christmas family lunch out. On arrival no one greeted us and we waited in line at the bar to be told, not shown to, which one our table was and to come back to the bar to order. This is fine but at hotel restaurant I would expect staff to come and take our order - main course Sunday lunch £24.95, burgers the kids had £21.95 so not cheap. Inn on the Lake Glenridding for example is less expensive and far superior in location, class, service and food quality. I ordered roast beef and when it arrived I actually got lamb - no problem mistakes happen - but it did mean i had to wait for it to be replaced whilst the rest of my family ate their meals. When beef arrived it was dried out, as if heated under a grill. No one checked on us during the meal but asked if everything was ok when they came to clear. I told them my beef wasn't great - half of it uneaten - and they said i should have told them and they would have replaced. Fine, but bearing in mind i had already waited for it to be replaced once and eaten after others had finished i didn't really want to go for round 3. My meal was removed from the bill but the experience for a family lunch out was spoilt. We were in the restaurant area that doesn't allow dogs but close to the open doors to the dog friendly area - I love dogs but the smell coming through wasn't pleasant from time to time, especially when eating. Generally i think it is expensive and disappointing for what it is, pub type service and food at restaurant prices. £9.50 for puddings for example is excessive for the environment. A shame as location is great to stop for lunch if walking around Derwentwater but I wouldn't recommend based on pour experience today. As a final comment the staff did seem genuinely apologetic.

I visited Oilys with family and just after the meals were served my brother had taken ill. One member of staff in particular was so helpful and attentive. Part way through the meal we had to leave to take my brother home and the same lady offered to box up all our meals for us as we had only started. Excellent service. The meals were delicious and it is just a shame we had to leave early. Luckily my brother is okay and we will have to go back sometime for a better experience.
