Great place to stay ! Lovely rooms, very clean and good facilities. Friendly staff and great quality food, one of the best breakfasts ever. Fantastic evening meals, would highly recommend to all. Second visit to this place but will definitely be back next time we visit the area. Well done to all the staff, excellent service and excellent staff and a very good manager !

We celebrated my husbands 65th in the Parliament room. Dina and Danny were really helpful from start. The hot buffet was complimented by all our guests. Room ideal size for our party of 40. New chairs on order as some very dated but that's my only criticism. Everything thing else was great. Thank-you to the Tawny Owl staff we had a great night....

Pre-booked lunches for 20 people. 45minute wait for food that was either congealed from being under heat lamps, overcooked or raw in centre. Waiting staff were so apologetic and we felt sorry for them. 65/70% of meals were returned and having to wait another 30 minutes for replacements By far the worst was a congealed dish that had no pasta shape and was served as macaroni cheese, The diner refused replacement after waiting an hour or more and did not pay for the meal. a half slice of bread being the only thing edible. No compensation was requested and no compensation given. Avoid. First and last time diner!

Setting was nice, pub wasn't overly busy for a Sunday. Very young staff on duty. Sat in the garden as weather was good. Generally clean although there were a fair few tables with empty glasses and plates on. Ordered from the menu with ease and it was good to see the staff openly mentioned about the service charge on the card machine and advised to press the red button to not pay the extra service charge. Ordered our meals and turn around was about 20 minutes. However, the meal arrived and it was wrong. The young man serving clealry panicked and rather than offering to swop it to the correct meal simply offered that the one we had was all he had been given and we could always take the other things off (ordered a cheeseburger but got a Tawny Stack so had to remove the egg and bacon) Food was good quality and standard. Although we appreciate the burgers are freshly made the one did look like it had fought to stay in the pan and lost and was more mince meat than a pressed burger. Over all not a bad experience but for the cost of £64 for 3 of us. It matches some of the higher end eateries around the area and not sure it matched the quality and service. Would come back again for their different events but being on the pricey side would be for special events rather than a relaxing Sunday whim.

We booked a meal for my son's birthday. We have been to the Tawny Owl previously so we were expecting things to be okay. myself and my Partner ordered Breaded Mushrooms with salad and a Garlic dip however what the staff failed to mention when we paid was that that did not have any Garlic Dip left so the Mushrooms were delivered with just a salad. If we had known this when ordering we would have opted for something else or requested an alternative Dip such as the Blue Cheese sauce that they serve with their steak!! We mentioned this to the waitress. When asking for an adjustment to the bill the staff didn't want to know it didn't get better with the main course where my son and I ordered medium Steaks . These were medium rare at best definitely not medium. But with the previous experience there was no point in mentioning it to the staff We won't be back

We were a group of around 50 that had a wake in the Tawny Owl. The food was delicious and plentiful. The room set aside was great, staff were extremely helpful, polite and professional. Would thoroughly recommend. A massive thanks from all of us!

Very disappointing . Had not put our booking in so table not ready . Then they put us(a group of 8) under a loud speaker . No chicken meals available . Omelettes and tagliatelle tasteless. Only saving grace was the bar maid who stayed positive throughout.

Came for lunch with a work colleague can honestly say the food was shocking staff didn’t seem to care on there phones when the food arrived the frozen pale chips were cold side salad was brown can’t believe they even served it this is just poor we’ve only been once before when passing but will be avoiding from now on

Visited here with friends and was unimpressed with the options on the Menu for non meat eaters. The pub itself is so lovely with a great atmosphere but felt they are really behind with the times with veggie/vegan options. The burger was like I had just stepped back in time to the 80s! A plant based burger would really go a long way seeing as it’s 2024! I haven’t visited for a couple of years and it was sad to see they have stopped catering for veggies. Sadly me and my friends won’t be visiting for a meal again :-(

I went with my family for an early evening dinner. The ambience was good, the bar staff provided excellent service and the food was plenty and tasty at a very reasonable price. We will certainly be back there.

Went for a Family Girls night out, twelve of us in total. All ordered food and wow! It all turned up together, the food was hot, plenty of it & can honestly say was superb, haven’t had a meal in there for years. The staff on shift were the old Tawny Team from years ago and it was lovely to have them back together, all happy, chatty and helpful. New Manager is chatty and seems nic with lots of live music and events planned.

I used to visit the visit Tawny Owl but it had gone down hill massively in the last year I saw on social media that a new manager had taken over so thought I would see if it had changed. Oh my word how it has changed. The staff are all so helpful and happy now. The new manager is so helpful, cheerful and very knowledgeable especially about beer! Very welcoming. The food is some of the best pub food I've had. The fish was lightly beer battered and perfectly cooked and my partners pie was perfect. Great crispy pastry! All washed down by well kept Arkells beers. Clean, tidy, warm and inviting. I am so glad it is back to its best, in fact it's better than it has ever been. Certainly the place I will be visiting when I'm back in the area.

Really welcoming friendly staff, nothing too much trouble, the BEST roast dinner we have had in a long time all home cooked to perfection, and compliments paid to the chef, very clean and tidy- despite it being busy. Would certainly recommend to anyone.

Walked in on the off chance. Very busy but a table quickly found, cleaned & set up. Very friendly staff & a delicious/hot Sunday lunch soon followed. Lovely home cooked food & plentiful. well, since covid, I understand the hospitality business`s have suffered. Tawny Owl is magnificent.. 3 or 4 of us have been to them for lunch,at least 4 times recently, and each time the food is really good. Reasonably priced, and well cooked, decent menu to choose for lunch. the staff are so friendly! unbelievable the reception we received. I cannot fault them One fault, we had cheesecake for dessert one day, and the next time we went they didn`t have any! so disappointed ,, a cheesecake to die for. cannot fault them in any way.. try them and see if you can! I doubt it.

In the 20 years I’ve been frequenting pubs, I can honestly say this morning was hands down the worst service I have ever experienced. If the barmaid was having a bad day she shouldn’t have taken it out on our recently bereaved party. I wouldn’t take a dog to this venue.

Upon arrival of this pub it really wasnt clear what i had to do to be covid secure. No one was around to show me to a table, and no one said about track and trace.I managed to find a table in the beer garden which was out of the way as hardly anyone was sticking to the covid rules of stay at your table, people were wondering round to different tables. On the table was a Qr code to scan for the menu and to place an order. I logged to the menu and was greeted by a message saying there is a 45 minute wait for food. I proceeded to order, but after 20 minutes of trying, it just wasn't working. So i gave up and left. It shouldn't be that much hard work to just get some food and drink. All in all I was there for just under half an hour and not one member of staff greeted me.Definalty didnt feel like the covid rules are being taken seriously. Which is a shame as your putting people at risk. Others pubs are doing it much better.

Tried a visit post lockdown 3. Wait for food was around over an hour and the food that was served was inedible. Burnt and over cooked. It does make me wonder why bother sending out such sub standard meals. Left quietly, won’t be returning.

I went with my family and we all got different pub meals! My dad got the Lamb Shank, looked so delicious and tasted amazing! The food was fresh and beautiful. The do all the classic pub drinks. Loved my Violet Gin and Tonic.

We booked for a family meal for five of us and as everywhere else, we knew we wouldn't get the full service we had experienced there before.Frankly, this visit was a disappointment made worse by the staff's laissez-faire attitude. It started as we arrived for our prebooked meal, we were shown part way to table and he pointed and said, "It's over there!" and we had to ask where and eventually he took us to table. Now I appreciate with Covid limitations of service will apply but he just left with no further comment.We sat at the table bemused for a while before I had to walk to the bar to enquire how we ordered anything as no one came to us or advised what to do. The young lady ecplained that all service was now by a scan, which we had no knowledge of. "Don't you have a smartphone?" was her initial response.Having established we needed to have a scanner app, we struggled to order online. At no time did any staff offer any further assistance.Eventually drink and food arrived but was nothing special.Sadly, we will not return here whilst they adopt such a distant style of staff interface, and that is making exceptions for Covid limitations.

Perfect place to come with my wife and two children, The staff cannot do more for you, the food is always spot on, and they serve a great pint. Attention to detail during covid is first class.

Went to The Tawny last night for my Birthday, they now have an app to order food and drink and full table service, they have hand sanitizers when you walk in and markings on the floor, I felt very safe that all the measures had been put in place. After a long time we made an effort to eat at Tawny Owl because for a while - a few years - something had gone wrong with it. We moved to Taw Hill in 2002 and used this place very often in the beginning. This time we were there for lunch a few days ago and as we had booked a table we were directly taken to it. The whole place was very clean and the tables were set at good distance from one another. We ordered a pint of Italian beer Peronei, our favourite one. It was served in good time and was nice and very refreshingly cool for a hot day. Our food was lamb shackle. This was also served in good time with lots of vegetables, mint sauce and the quality and quantity were excellent and it was served in a very pleasant manner with a smiling face. All the members of staff were very polite and courteous. What more can one wish for? We will certainly eat here from time to time. Thank you Tawny Owl.

Hubby and I booked a room and also ate at the restaurant. The room met with all the Covid requirements and then some, as did the restaurant. The room was light, airy and spacious, the bed was comfortable with added facilities such as iron and ironing board, tea and coffee and hair drier. We book a table and ate at the restaurant, the service was outstanding, George or waiter help us to download the scan/QR thing (also good to learn new things) but then printed off a menu also. He was extremely helpful and the service he gave was excellent, being a humid day we ordered cool drinks and with out asking he brought an extra glass of ice, service and food came quickly and my ham and cheese omelette was one of the best I've ever eaten, the ham was off the bone and as I'm watching my calories, I was given a huge side salad to replace the chips. Hubby and I are entertainers and we travel the length and breadth of the UK and this is one of those times when I felt I had to give credit where credit was due. I have read some of the reviews and I'm sure at peak times you will have to wait but this is a new normal now and were all on a learning curve. I will most definitely be booking again. Did Eat Out to Help Out, limited menu, almost hour wait for food, which tasted good, even though we had pre-booked. Scanner code wasn't easy, wish we hadn't bothered.

Booked a table for my son & I last night (eat out dine out) awful service and many who had booked tables were waiting ages just for drinks and then over 1.5hrs for food! With no offer of water or drinks they were taking orders from walk-ins and directing them to the garden and those who had already pre-booked We’re just expected to wait whilst they tried to cope with too many orders! The young waiters etc were trying their best but the manager there didn’t seem bothered and didn’t even offer water or prioritise those who had booked and were waiting for basic food and drinks!will not be returning ever again.

Very controlled social distancing in place, new procedures in place with regards to ordering drinks and food via a QR link to encourage contactless payment, staff very friendly, sanitising stations a plenty. The Tawny Owl has adapted well to the post lockdown regulations. Felt very safe and happy to be back in this excellent friendly pub, well done to Laura and her team

Visited after lockdown and was very disappointed with lack of social distancing and could not get through the front entrance as people were smoking and not social distancing, when we did manage to get into the pub we were told to go back out and scan an app to enable me to get drinks which was situated on a post at the front, after batteling through the people again gather by the front door smoking we decided to leave.

I recently stayed here and made an error with my booking. I truly believe you can judge an establishments customer service by how they handle situations when something goes wrong. The Tawny Owl staff were amazing and helped me fast and efficiently.The room was wonderful and so clean! The bed was comfy and was surprisingly quiet. I eat at the tawny owl regularly and have also rented out their functions room and the food and service has always been brilliant. It’s an absolutely lovely place ran by lovely people.

Staff very friendly throughout the 3 days we were here, Room was spacious, very clean and would give the program 4 in a bed a run for its money winning top spot without question. All meals in the bar were freshly cooked, didn't skimp on the portions and nothing was too much bother for anyone. Attended a surprise 60th birthday in the function room and again couldn't be more attentive with the organisation. There was entertainment on in the bar but you wouldn't know it was on from the room.Will definitely stay again on my next visit.The whole complex is a credit to the manager and staff.

I recently stayed at the Tawny Owl and couldn't have asked for a warmer welcome. The room was impeccably clean, recently refurbished, plenty of hot water and all the snacks and toiletries you could need provided. The full english breakfast in the morning was BRILLIANT. I went on to use their conference facility and again found it all perfect for my day. Highly recommended, thank you Laura and your team! Sara.

Fantastic family meal on Boxing Day for 13 of us! We not want set 3 course Christmas meal and this was the only pub that we could order off the menu this day. All of us praised the standard of the food and the staff. Great food choices on the menu that pleased the young and old in our family. Definitely be back!

First time here for lunch with a group of 5. First impressions were that it was a large pub but with a cosy atmosphere and friendly service. The food was okay, I had soup of the day, mushroom, others had jacket potato with chill, cod and chips, steak and ale pie and vegetable lasagne. We would certainly come again.

My daughter had her wedding reception here. Beautiful venue and could not fault the staff. They were all helpful happy and nothing was too much trouble. We booked all 5 rooms and they were spotless and comfortable. Big thank you to the manageress Laura who could not do enough for us and our family and to her colleague who moved tables countless tines for us and always with a laugh and a smile. Usually visit this place at least 4 times a month just to have a casual drink and occasionally some pub food. Definitely one of my favourite places to go in Swindon for a drink, bar staff are always polite, professional and friendly, always a great vibe within the bar area. Food is always good, I usually just order simple pub food but it is always cooked perfectly and tastes great.Would recommend.

So glad that The Tawney Owl was recommended to me by locals. I stayed there for 2 nights. Excellent room facilities with superb hospitality from Manager Laura and her team. Nothing was too much trouble. Very grateful to them and will definitely stay there again when I'm back in this locality.

Been here befor with a few friends a few years ago and the staff, management and locals where all really lovely it was a brilliant time, this time we went for a meal, the new management ( and same bar lady ) where absolutely appalling and rude, bar lady was constantly on her phone and to busy talk to take out order, management just had a face like a slapped arse and then new generation of locals where loud, lairy and quite frankly disgusting, such a shame as this place use to be a loverly establishment

We held the party last night in the function room. Laura and her team could not have been more accommodating from the booking and organising and setting up to the actual party. Nothing was too much trouble. Food was amazing (too much could have halved and still had plenty so excellent value) and on time and hot! Would 100% recommend even including their brekkie which we had this morning. Thanks all for making it really special x

Lovely clean comfortable hotel rooms, nice thick duvet, hairdryer, tea & coffee making facilities, bathroom with bath and shower over. Lovely fluffy towels, Rio & board. Quick check in. Lovely food in the restaurant friendly staff.

Stay for one night and found hotel comfortable and clean. The room was modern, comfortable bed and very quiet at night. The bar was welcoming and friendly (there was a quiz in when we stayed). Menu was ok. Would definitely stay again.
