We have lived in Newquay for 40 years and am ashamed to say last Sunday was the first time we had visited the Tavern, what a gem we have been missing, the carvery was the best we have had in a very long time the staff were pleasant and the icing on the cake for us was there was no invasive noisey so called "MUSIC " overpowering our conversation, well done Tavern Inn we will certainly be making it a regular venue in the future

First night in Cornwall after a long drive, a much needed drink at a very late time was met with a great smile from the bartender and guys at the bar in general, we felt welcomed and were invited to watch an ongoing bet with some lads over a game of pool which was rather entertaining to watch as one of the guys played with a broom instead of que. Big up Rick 🙏🏻

All the years we have been coming to Newquay & surrounding area, can't believe we never came across this lovely dog friendly pub. Warm welcome by barman on entry who said we could sit anywhere with our dog except the restaurant area. We were happy with this as log burner was lite & there was sport on tv in the large comfortable bar area. After getting a drink we ordered our food which was soon brought to our table. Freshly prepared, well presented food & very tasty, also excellent value for money. This is a definitely will return.

Completely taken aback by this absolutely massive, hidden tavern. You'd blink and miss it coming through Newquay but trust me don't miss it. Whilst it's very much got a locals pub feel about it, the service was incredibly friendly and they were more then happy to answer our 1000 questions. We ordered 2 mixed grills at an okay price. The value is definitely in the portion size. Accompanied by MUST EAT!!! onion rings. The chicken burger comes in the same batter as the onion rings. It was so big at first we cut it open thinking it was fish. Don't worry it wasn't. And the crispy juicy chicken surrounded by the crunchy light batter was fantastic. The only gripe, and it's only a little one, is the peppercorn sauce was a waisted order. Thin and very bland. Only thing that stopped this being a five star review. But please please please, go and try the travel inn. You won't regret it. 2 mixed grills, 1 chicken burger, side of garlic bread and 3 pints of coke £80

Good family run venue with good selection of wine, cider and ales. Something for everyone on the menu and they offer taste worthy homemade lasagne and lemon meringue cheesecake that where perfectly created to perfection. This place is a laid back pub that welcomes children and dogs with good display of t.v screens for sports and if you go on a Saturday night you might be fortunate enough to get some live music. Ample seating for large family gatherings. They don't offer table service as you will need to order at the bar. Nice clean toilets which is always a good reflection on the state of restaurants kitchens so 10/10 from me. Booked table for a rare family occasion whilst visiting my parents in Newquay. Reservation was made on Thursday for Sunday lunch for 6 people at 2pm. Although the reservation was confirmed, upon arrival we were told that our table had been taken by a different group who had only just started eating. We asked to sit at a different table but even though there were other tables free we were told they had been reserved for others and we were left standing in a gang way by the bar for 20mins until our table was vacated. After finally sitting down we were told the carvery would not be ready for 15 mins because they needed to cook vegetables. Family member then went to bar to order drinks only to be told they had neither types of beer they wanted, plus they had no Pimm's. None of the adults in the party were able to purchase the drink they wanted. After queuing for the carvery, it was 3:15pm by the time we started eating (more than an hour after our booking). Another party had booked the table for 4pm so had to rush our meal. The food was ok but nothing special. Do not visit if you have a wheelchair user. Disabled toilet is not accessible by wheelchair (need to get up a couple of steps). WiFi credentials displayed behind bar didn't work. Not a great experience at all. There are much better places to visit in Newquay.

Rang first to book a table for 8 for a small post wedding meal and was told that no bookings were being taken and to just turn up and we would be seated. So come the day, looking forward to a nice meal, we arrived and explained what we had been told. Only to be told that they did not have a table to suit 8 guests. We asked if they could maybe put 2 tables together and after a sigh they arranged this albeit with 2 very small tables. we ordered our starters and main meals and awaited their arrival with anticipation. What happened next totally threw me as never experienced any thing like it in any pub before. The meals kept coming and filled the entire table. Thinking a mistake had been made we asked why ? "At peak times and when we're busy, we always serve the starters and main meals together" (there were'nt many people in ), And with an abrupt retort the lady said "It says on the menu "and strode off. Leaving us astounded. some left the starters because the main meals were getting cold. Was'nt even impressed by the quality of the food. I believe the woman was the landlady. Still astounded and will never darken the Tavern again.

bit disappointed as it’s a dog friendly pub but nine of us came to dine with one very well behaved dog,and weren’t allowed to sit in the restaurant. had to sit in the lounge bar on two separate tables. we had rang up to book a tables as it was a large party but they wouldn’t accept bookings…first come first served. food was a bit of a let down as a few ordered the special …bbq ribs. they were chewy and didn’t fall off the bone. the fish and chips came out worst…really disappointing piece of fish. especially as we had dined at the smugglers den inn the night before…the fish and chips there were on a different level. took us ages to find this pub as the sat nav took us all over the place…never done so many three point turns!

I have to admit that I am not the person that comments on anything and everything, nor do I ever right a review of my experience. If I am unsatisfied with the experience, I just won't return again. But ... I have been seeing the Development of this establishment for that past 20 years and treated myself quite often to a night or two in any of the corner or best suites ( highly recommend those ) and enjoyed the ambiance and service this hotel had to offer. Our experience: Arrival to the hotel : We planned to have drinks prior to our meal. Found the bar area as busy as usual. With no free seats in sight, I ask the Brasserie manager if we could order drinks in the main lounge, whereas we been told that there normally is service but he has no clue what they doing today. Not answer I was hoping for. The entrance to the main lounge also been blocked off for some reason. Luckily the wait at bar was sufficient enough to pass the time for a table to become vacant. In previous visits, a relaxed table service was offered but not this time for some reason . Guess it’s an informal 5 star service.. , had to ask for bar menus as neither been on the bar or tables to see what’s on offer. ( also no usual complimentary nuts that used to be offered ) Restaurant We arrived early to our Booking at the samphire and were delighted to be able to be seated, unfortunately without any menus. It took about 10-15 min of us staring holes into the warm air, when I lost my patients and had to get up from the table to ask for menus at the entrance of the Restaurant. Yet again it took quite a while for us to order drinks and food as it seemed to be a chaotic service with everyone doing everything and no restaurant Manager nor head waiter in sight ( please note.. all evening ) . The lack of attention to detail was incredible .. table settings with knives to left and forks to right on every table .. just wow - giggle Food and drinks order done. ( ordered a glass of white wine with my mains, which never arrived ).. Drinks arrived what seamed ages. Overheard table next to us complaining about the slow service too, which been given a small apology but no solution to increase the speed of service ( yet again a lack of management ) Noticed the young waiter being unfamiliar on how to correctly present a bottle of wine and opening it, which I thought should be a training standard for a 5 star establishment. not only did he seem untrained, he also dried his hands in a used napkin left on the table next to him where diners just left. The pork belly starter , was below luke warm which was shame as its been rather tasty. I guess if a portion of this size is sitting on a kitchen pass for mere 3 min, it naturally will loose its core temperature, suggestion.. Next time use a cloche! I wanted to point this out to the service but yet again no manager or headwaiter to be seen and the waiters seem too busy to be bothered. Once they did ask if everything is alright, but by that time we finished what we had on the plate ( which is not a lot if you are hungry ) Unfortunately the main course of the hen and the monk fish not been any better and yet again being luke warm. Dessert of the frangipane tart and pineapple been ok, but yet again no attention to detail, as the dessert been bought out without cutlery being replenished prior. Ordered coffee to be served in the lounge, which arrived with no sugar or spoon and had to be asked for separately. When I paid my bill, I mentioned that the wine I ordered with my main course never arrived. No apology was offered.. A "informal fine Dining " experience. 95% informal - 5 % fine Dining. :-( Over the past 20 years I always chose the Headland hotel for its perfection, attention to detail and impeccable service, this time it's not delivered to its promise which is a shame cause that's what I will remember.. Coming from a 4 to a 5 star .. I expected more ( go back to 4 stars !!! You been better then
