The Tavern in Perth & Kinross

My partner and I came so we could have a last meal before it closed. We arrived at 12 because we reckoned it would be busy with it being the final day. We were told the kitchen didn't open until 12.30 so as we had found a seat, opted to have a drink. We ordered food at 12.30 (pie & chips and a burger) and over an hour later it eventually arrived. Also people that came in after us got served before us. No apologies for our long wait. It is maybe a good think that it has closed now.

Waited over an hour and 15 mins for 2x soup and a toastie when asked how long it would be told we were at the bottom of list and would be a while yet.. honestly! People cancelling food orders and leaving .i heard the lass who was taking orders say .. "that makes it easier on us!" Would not recommend for food if its busy!

Our favourite stop for lunch any time we’re near Perth. We discovered it just after Lockdown with strict protocols in place. Todays visit was the opposite. Friendly, welcoming staff who allowed us to chose our own seating. The food is fantastic, so we’ve come here every time we’ve been in Perth since. The Cullen Skink is a must for me every time.followed by a Strawberry Sundae. My wife loves the chips (fries) served with the skins on. Great food, nice atmosphere, subdued music(good stuff) and friendly accommodating staff We will be back, many times Kenny & Clare

Almost died of thirst! Straight to the point. I'm not sure what their target audience is so forgive me. I visited this place to drink, not to eat. So we took out seats at the bar, as is normal in Scotland, and we drunk our initial pint. We wanted another, we waited at least five minutes before we were fortunate enough to flag down a passing member of staff. The previous five minutes were spend standing up, waving bank cards, shuffling empty pint glasses, to no avail. Apparently standing at the end of the bar, speaking to their pals and Messing about on phones was more important. This scene was repeated again, and again till we moved on. Now, the venue itself is nice, clean, well furnished. But it was empty and I'd imagine that a good part of the reason why is that the service at the bar is so tardy. If you are going to be a pub, ensure that your punters are kept watered.

The curry looks lovely on the pictures but when we ordered it it came out on a small plate with a very small portion. Macaroni was not that great either quite a small portion and the salad was wilted.

I was with my partner, for a birthday tea. The staff are pleasant and efficient. Although they are a bit scruffily dressed. The food was enjoyable. It is very central and convenient for buses. The only thing letting this lovely pub down is the ladies facilities are an absolute disgrace. It won't stop us going, though.

Great food, great drinks, lovely atmosphere, and friendly staff (and locals). We only popped by for a drink initially, but when we saw the food on our neighbouring table, we decided to order pizza too - and it was delicious. We happened to still be there when some local musicians came in for a 'jam' session - and so we decided to stay, and it was wonderful. The evening was one of the highlights of our holiday - thank you all.

Popped in for an anniversary lunch. Main courses were fish, chips and salad and macaroni, chips and salad and both were excellent. Ordered the cheesecake of the day which was flake cheesecake and it was served with icecream and strawberries and was divine. Also had a bottle of wine and 2 cocktails. £56 for 2 mains, 2 desserts, a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc and 2 cocktails in a city centre pub is superb value for money. Friendly helpful service. Will definitely be back

Absolutely unprofessional! Waitress was very persistent on telling us that she finished at 6pm and that there was no real chef in!!! She made me feel very unwelcome at the start of the night! And certainly didn't make it better throughout the night! ("She was there till 7pm") even though she made it very clear to us that she finished at 6pm! We tried to order food and she told us to "hurry up" as she finished at 6pm and the menu was reduced cause there wasn't a real chef!!! Am pretty sure when John Byrdon owned the place this would have never happened and if Peter was in the kitchen! I certainly would never be rushed! Just because she finished at 6pm!! Absolutely unprofessional and shocking!! Certainly wouldn't be eating or bringing my customer here again!!

First impressions were really good and cosy and the staff were lovely too, knew there drinks which was impressive. The food was everything we needed. We especially loved the garlic bread and the wrap! Would definitely recommend and what makes it even better they are dog friendly

First visit to this very welcoming eaterie on the main drag in Perth. Being a soup lord, the standard choice of 3 was welcomed. The lentil and bacon was selected, the distinct lack of visible bacon was annoying, but to be fair it was quite tasty. I went for Steak pie., Not my ideal presentation, the pastry cooked separately and plopped on top, not giving that soggy pastry taste I yearn . the meat was tasty enough and plentiful. My friend had the chilli and enjoyed it. Pleasant staff, with the waiter showing interest and asking if everything was fine. Would definitely recommend and return.

We were just nipping in for a Beer 🍻. The food looked lovely, so we decided to dine. We weren't disappointed, proper food at proper prices. Staff were great, friendly and the service was second to none. A must for any visitor to Perth.

Superb fresh haddock, just fell apart. Great to see a pub not using frozen fish......cooked to perfection. Great venue for above average pub grub....with the Mod band playing in background.....

We enjoyed the excellent service from friendly helpful staff, the food was brought promptly and was very tasty and well presented. We liked the atmosphere and decor of the place, traditional with a modern twist, and we enjoyed the music. Good value too.

Two of us came in for a late lunch, I order the chipotle chicken wrap which was supposed to come with sour cream and lime - which never did. The chicken was very tough and chewy and all that was in the wrap was tough chicken, tiny amount of cheese and some bland chipotle sauce. Partner had fish and chips which was exceedingly average. Batter was very pale and soggy. They also ordered a pint of lager that tasted stale. Would not recommend and will not be returning.

El pastel de carne dio en el blanco magníficamente cocinado y sabroso, seguido de un pudín de caramelo pegajoso, simple y muy bueno. Volvería si volviéramos a Perth.

Eaten in a few places round Perth area, and this has been the best meal of them all, deliciously tasty steak pie, no fuss, not pretentious just good honest food and excellent service.

Nice and cosy pub. We went there a half hour before they closed. The waiters were so nice even though was nearly the end of their shift. We ordered margaritas, which tasted amazing. I will come back soon and would like to try food there.

Had a lovely meal , they even have me a half portion even though they don't usually do that after lunch time , I had steak pie green beans carrots and mustard mash .. all delicious , my partner had fish chips and salad which was lovely too , staff were all very friendly , would thoroughly recommend it

Went in for a meal last night, 3rd time we have eaten here. Once again could not fault the place. The staff are brilliant, warm friendly, very welcoming, nothing is a problem. Food is good pub food, tasty and very reasonably priced.Good selection of drinks. Places is clean and feels upbeat. Always surprised it is not busier than it is, it definitley deserves to be.

Having visited here 3 times since moving back to Perth and trying it as The Tavern and not Scaramouche. I found it disappointing. 4 stars for food and atmosphere, minus 2 for the two out of three times here, strange men have sat at my table without permission. One actually grabbing my hand and squeezing it so tight I could not let go because I didn't give him a kiss.

Visited this pub on a previous trip to Perth and again on this trip. Enjoy the relaxing and comfortable atmosphere. Staff is very friendly, service good, prices reasonable. Enjoyed a very nice salmon dinner on a previous trip. This time enjoyed a wonderful Highland venison burger. Located on South Street between King Edward Street and Scott Street. Good pub to relax and enjoy a drink or dinner. Will definitely visit again when in Perth. Recommend.

Dropped in for lunch today and was impressed by the food and waiter. The young chap who served us was very friendly and welcoming . The food was great pub food and not cheap ingredients like some other pub lunches. I would recommend. Pork and apple burger was lovely as were kids chicken nuggets, freshly fried more like a chicken in batter.

Two groups of extended family one travelling from Edinburgh and the other from Aberdeen met in Perth. I chose the Tavern because it was central and because it had good reviews. We were not disappointed. All were very happy with their meals. Three of us had fish and chips.My mom had the small portion which was just right for her. The burgers were also very good as was the sticky toffee pudding. Good friendly efficient service and good prices as well.

Called to see if our wee Scottie would be made welcome at lunchtime and Derek who answered the phone was fantastic. Confirmed pub was dog friendly and advised on type of menu available. He gave us directions and reserved a table for us. Food great (pie, chips and beans) prices very reasonable. Cannot praise highly enough, keep up the good work guys.

The pub is centrally located, the food is excellent and very good value. The staff are helpful and attentive without being overly so. It has a good atmosphere and good music. Being female, I am even quite happy going in on my own. My only bugbear is that the ladies needs a major refurb.

Found this place by accident and glad we did. Friendly barman/waiter from the moment we walked in out of the rain. Despite serving on his own he couldn’t do enough for our party of 8 and had a great sense of humour. Food was excellent and a great place to try haggis and other local food. One of our party was vegetarian and was happy with the home made veg burger. Could not fault this place at all, just a pity we live 9 hours away or we’d be regulars. Definitely recommended!

As soon as we walked in, we were welcomed by the serving staff. They were extremely polite, friendly, and accommodating. Reasonably priced as well as lovely food. Would recommend.

Was just passing this pub and noticed they had a good choice of food on offer and as it was close to lunchtime we decided to pop in.staff were very polite,chatty and smiley which was very nice,food was fab,we both had the soup with a toastie and could not fault it,would defiantly return again when next in the area.

Great food (we had a burger and mac and cheese) with good prices, but the service was the thing that really stood out. Welcoming bar staff, super attentive and friendly throughout. Smooth payment. The staff just seemed really experienced as well as really nice. Will be back when we’re next in Perth!

Had a quick stop off in the city for a couple of hours last weekend and was looking for a place for lunch. As I was not familiar with the area I was just going by appearances. They had a menu board up outside which was the first thing that attracted us. It looked like a typical old man's pub from the outside but we popped our head round the door and were pleasantly surprised. It was really different indoors; spacious and modern with quirky touches. Took a seat at one of the roomy booths at the front with views outside and just as we were making ourselves comfortable and looking for our table number to order food, a lovely waitress was right over to the table with menus and taking our drinks order.
