Last time I was here the fish and chips was really good. Afraid to say this time my wife had the fish and chips and it was cafe standard at best. I had the mac and cheese and I have to say this was the worst mac and cheese I have ever had in my life. Microwaved with what little sauce there was at the bottom of the bowl. The parmesan was probably fresh about a week ago and been sitting out since then. We won’t be bac. Pity as we are local. Staff (waiter, bar staff and receptionist) were pleasant enough though and can’t fault them at all.

Went for a pre show lunch. Found staff to be slow and seemingly not much interested in serving customers. Sat for quite a while before having to remind staff we were waiting and we were the only customers there at this point. Ordered soup which was very good and tasty but the cheese and haggis toastie I had next was awful. The haggis was cut in slices approx half an inch thick which were cold and seemed uncooked. Really bad.

Great meal and drinks. Had the Brazilian chicken, tacos and nachos with a side of plantain. Service was excellent and even with sending a dish back for being cold, it was handled professionally and still merited a tip.

Food was average at best but the service and experience is so poor! You walk in and no sign advising to wait. No greeting to say, “I’ll be with you in a minute” or “grab a seat and I’ll be over”. So when you do ask “do we just grab a seat”, to avoid standing in the middle of the floor area like a plant, it’s met with a nippy response. Just avoidable. Manager also walked right past us without comment. Place was almost empty and the check to see if they could fit us in, almost made me leave. It never got much busier by the time we left. Only one young waitress with any sign of customer service and deserves to learn the trade from competent people other than the supervisor and manager! Won’t be back as no need

Have stayed here previously and whilst the hotel is tired the food had been good. Sadly not on this occasion however. Called in for lunch and can only think that the chef must have left the building as whilst my starter (Cullen skink)was tasty it was gloopy. My dining partners starter however resembled something else the cheese was so ally conjeelled it resembled a jellyfish which had been dried up and dumped on a pile of sand for weeks. The main courses were just as bad I had fish and chips which arrived as fish and French fries my partners main macaroni cheese was clearly from a packet and did little to impress. We ate as we were hungry but really didn’t enjoy. Then we went to pay. The staff were nowhere to be found I called out a couple of times to no avail as the were too busy chatting. Although we had been seen by the receptionist still no one attended. This hotel is clearly run by staff with little supervision/ training for a larger organisation which is sad as it could be really good. Sad to say I won’t be returning and will choose more wisely next time and probably going to the chippy next time I’m in Kinross

We came last minute to the restaurant and quite latish. They welcomed us with open arms, accommodated all our strange requests, and were able to accommodate the vegans, veggies and meat eaters in the group. The ambience in the place was nice along with the decor, the approach and attitude of the people serving was fabulous. Prices were really good, food selection great and gave us a lovely meal and a superb evening. If you're visiting Kirkcaldy, come and eat here, you won't be disappointed.

We were recommended to go to Jock's Bar for the fish and chips and the fact that they have taken precautions to protect diners from Covid 19. I'll admit, the fish was good but as for the rest- pretty awful! They do have a one-way system in place and hand gel at the door, but we did see customers entering without masks. Our table was small, which meant that when we leaned over to eat we were not within the recommended safe distance. They didn't take contact details for our friends, which I thought was now a requirement. This was the first time we've been in the restaurant since it was refurbished. It had all of the atmosphere and style of a cheap motorway cafe. All in all, it was very disappointing and although we live locally, we will not be returning again.Avoid!

Good food and service. Can recommend the steak pie and the grilled haddock with lemon butter. Also the creme brûlée was delicious. The only negative was I felt the macaroni was a bit bland.

Had a 2 night stay at the hotel so had a few drinks in here and although nice and clean it seems to lack a bit of atmosphere. The table spacing may have added to that but it felt too clinical as we tend to like a more traditional bar.

Food was a total let down during our afternoon visit. The hotel and local brewery are running a partnership of drinks and food on the green outside. Had been for a few drinks recently and it’s a really good venture so on this on this occasion we also decided to have some food. I have eaten in the hotel a few times and it was always enjoyable but was shocked at the food served today. We had assumed at the prices charged that the burgers (£9.95) and hot dogs (£8.95) would have included sides. This would certainly have been the case if we had been eating inside. When I complained to the server about this he confirmed that sides were extra! So for a burger and chips the total cost would have been £11.90!?!The burger/hot dogs we received is something that would have been served from a van but at a fraction of the price. We would not have ordered if we had known this and would have eaten else where locally. There are so many great places to eat in Kinross. They are charging premium prices for budget food. The takeaway food in no way represented the quality or value normally served inside their venue. Shameful rip off.

Stopped in today for an afternoon drink. No draught beer at all, all off due to cleaning? Asked for a bottle of the local brewery beer (literally across the road) and a fresh orange and lemonade to be told there was no fresh orange! Then to be charged £6 for a 330ml bottle of beer and a draught lemonade with orange cordial!! Checked on the brewery website and the bottle of beer from them was £2.29. Daylight robbery... staff were unapologetic and their communication skills were questionable. Would not recommend at all.

Ordered the macaroni and garlic bread with a side of chips. The macaroni was stone cold when served to me and the garlic bread was definitely from frozen. I sent the macaroni back. It was evidently just heated up in the microwave and served to me again, it was absolutely tasteless. A chicken burger was also ordered and was very disappointed. The chicken was dry and stringy. The chips may have well been called frozen fries instead of french fries! Nice staff.

We came as a party to enjoy some lunch and a few drinks in the joint venture between Loch Leven Brewery and the Green Hotel. The drinks and service were fine from the Brewery side, however, the food/service from the Green Hotel was absolutely abysmal. The majority of the food was cold, however half of the orders came with only half the food in cardboard boxes. The Steak pies came without potatoes which we had to ask for (and are still waiting on!) The macaroni was cold. One of the childrens Steak Pies (had no potatoes) so we complained and the second time it came with no pastry. The childrens ice cream never arrived. The sauted potatoes were disgusting, swimming in grease. It was an absolute shambles from start to finish. And it wasn't cheap. £10 for a chicken burger which came with nothing else and I mean nothing else. Apparently the kitchen also can't do chips?! What kitchen can't do them. Well actually it appears the Green Hotel can't do a lot of food.We asked to speak to the Manager who apparently wasn't around the person we did speak to was reluctant to refund for anything (even though) she accepted all of the complaints we had. After 20 minutes of reiterating all of the issues she eventually refunded us for the ice-cream (which never arrived, the sautéed potatoes which never arrived and the children's steak pie) but nothing else, there was no gesture of goodwill. Her apology was also half hearted. We definitely do not recommend eating here, especially when there are so many other local alternatives which are so good e.g. The Muirs, The Kirklands, The Courthouse, The Thistle.

Knew for some time they had refurbished Jocks Bar so last night thought I'd have a pint prior to the Champions League. Ordered a Guinness and saw the specialsboard and Mac N Cheese jumped out and at a great price of just over £10. Suitably ordered and awaited its arrival, very tasty indeed with a good sized side salad and 2 big pieces of garlic bread. All in all very tasty and I'd certainly go back for food, only thing I was disappointed with was the price of my Guinness was more like that of an Edinburgh pub £4.90 is a lot for a rural location. Certainly worth visit however.

Website gives this place more chara ter than it has.. Its pretty run down on the verge of care home but its saving grace by a mile was the food and the new development of basil bar and the breakfast resteraunt made it worth while.. The room was huge and had just enough to it apart from being next to the plant room which made it sound like an elevator all night.. So much potential. but 3 stars is being a bit too many If it wasn't for the food

Back to Backstage for another concert. On this occasion we decided to dine at in house Jocks Bar. Old fashioned dim interior with military memorabilia adorning the walls. Not recommended for romantic trysts. Food is very good. We had a selection of Mixed slider burgers, Steak pie and a veggie burger with wedge fries. Quality was fine. We rounded off with 3 coffees. Bill for 3 was £66. I've paid less for a similar style meal but we are talking hotel prices.A convenient choice on a cold night avoiding traipsing about looking for other options.

The bar was very quiet on the evening of our visit as I think a function was taken place in Basil's restaurant within the Green Hotel. The menu was OK but seemed to be aimed at people liking special burgers. I decided on haddock and chips which was very good but the supposedly "mushy peas" served with it were really garden peas that had been squashed. I failed to understand the significance of the so-called "signature chips" on the menu. They were basically french fries and in no way were they different to other french fries.Annoyingly the apparently sophisticated coffee machine on the bar was extremely noisy when in use and drowned out any chance of conversation.

My partner and I decided to come into The Green Hotel for some lunch, as we were visiting Kinross to see Loch Leven. We were welcomed by a friendly receptionist who pointed us in the direction of Jocks Bar for some food. Upon arrival, we were met by a welcoming waiter who showed us to the sunlit table by the window. The waiter came over with some menus and immediately starting talking to us about our day. He explained the best way to look around Loch Leven and what was available in Kinross. He told us his name was Dan and continued to explain the soup and fish specials, as well as what was currently available and most popular on the menu. We ordered the salmon Caesar salad and salmon fishcake starter, which was delightful. This was followed by the fish and chips main, which came in a huge portion! Though we were quite full after this, we were convinced by Dan to order some desserts. We ordered a mixture of ice cream flavours and asked if we could get chocolate sauce. He kindly checked with the kitchen before returning shortly with the best looking ice creams I have seen. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meal and to say we will be coming back soon is an understatement! On our way out we admired all the Black Watch memorabilia on the walls, which apparently the Hotel has a close link with. Though the weather wasn’t perfect for a day out, the great meal set us up for the day and I hope the bosses of the Hotel acknowledge just how good their members of staff are. Thanks again Dan!

menu was restricted due to local event. Had steak and ale pie that was rather under-whelming! No starters or desserts on said menu. Hotel guests should be made aware of this at least at check in.

Booked a table at Jocks Bar for an early evening family meal. The bar was already busy but we where greeted by a very friendly barman who showed us to our table. The drinks order was taken, he made sure he built a rapport with our 6 year old grandson and one year old granddaughter. The service was attentive but in no way overbearing. The kids food arrived first which was a nice touch, our food arrived a little later which meant Mum and Dad could enjoy their meal as the wee one was already contented with what she had eaten and was just happy nibbling by herself. The food itself was good hearty pub food the portion sizes are very generous, so much so everyone was too full and couldn't manage dessert. Overall a pleasant meal, all the staff are helpful and friendly, which makes it a welcoming atmosphere.

Had a meal here with 20 other friends and the staff coped admirably. The food was good, hot and did not take that long considering the size of the order.I would not say there is a massive choice and some of it standard faire but what I had was good

We visited here for a coffee and to dry after our walk around the Heritage trail, when we got a little wet. They served nice coffee, and had good music playing. The staff were very friendly.

On arrival place was not to busy so easy to get a seat, ordered drinks at bar but server told us to sit and she would bring drinks and menu, Menu is quite limited but we both opted for the Maccar on which had a choice of add-ons, I picked mine with cray fish and salad my partner choose bacon, and chips, food was ok but added flat bread would have been more appropriate with curry, for dessert we chose the cheese board , very disapointing, 2 small bits of brie and 2 small bits of cheddar , no crackers available as the had run out so had to make do with oat cakes, not worth the £8.00, waiter was good but the service was slow so overall everything was just acceptable

To cut a long story short the length of time from taking our order to getting our meal was one hour!! Our waitress was lovely and took our order quickly enough but it simply went downhill after that. We had been told there was a big party coming at 7:30 which is why we booked our table for 7:00 thinking that would be enough time for us to get our main course before the big party arrived. When our food did arrive the waitress was very apologetic explaining she had been too busy in the restaurant to deal with our order. Unfortunately no one updated us while we were waiting. When our dinner did come both of our meals were, to say the least, not very pleasant. I had fish and chips which was verging on being burnt. My daughter had steak which she said tasted disgusting but by then we were so hungry we would have eaten anything! My daughter asked me not to complain as the waitress looked stressed enough and at the end of the day it wasn't her fault. Hindsight being a great thing we should have complained.Would we go back? Definitely not!

We were staying in this establishment's sister hotel, The Windlestrae and thought we would have a meal here instead............Big mistake! When booking we were told there was a big party coming into the restaurant at 7:30 so we booked a table in the bar for 7:00. We arrived on time, were greeted by a lovely friendly waitress who took our order by 7:15, this is when things went downhill. We did not receive our food until 8:15!! No one came to explain why there was a delay although our waitress did apologise profusely explaining she has been stuck in the dining room because of a big party. I ordered fish and chips, my daughter steak. My fish was verging on burnt and my daughter's steak was (she said) disgusting. I was going to complain at the time but my daughter did not want to upset the waitress because she looked stressed enough as it was. The receptionist who booked us in was also lovely, friendly and efficient so I can only assume the problem is with the kitchen who, I can only assume is not the most organised!

Arrived at Jocks Bar sat down as per instruction from waitress where she came back and asked if we had booked which we hadn't. Told the chef couldn't take 3 of us they weren't even busy. They advertised that served all day but couldn't get food at 6pm very dissatisfied :(

We enjoyed two excellent dinners at the Terrace Restaurant. A special mention for our young server Harry who provided excellent and friendly service he was open he was a recent start but his desire to be the best he could be shone through and he had a very positive personality which made the whole experience very enjoyable. Management take note he is a keeper!

We had an enjoyable lunch at the Bein Inn. My partner said his burger was good, his purple coleslaw looked appealing and I have to say his chips (something neither of us is fond of) were probably the best we've had. I ordered a chicken fajita, which was the most unusual I've ever had: *everything*, including the rice (either pilau or basmati, not long grain as I'd expect), wrapped up in one big dod with three sauces on the side. It tasted fine and was filling, but looked tragi-comical. The young waitress warned us they had no avocados, but on questioning thought they may have guacamole; however it was substituted with some kind of chutney, which was ok if unconventional. On the plus side, it all seemed to have actually been cooked rather than banged into a microwave, which we appreciated. The service was good and friendly, and our food arrived in a timely manner, noting that we arrived at the beginning of Friday lunchtime when it was quiet. We're not in a hurry to go back, as the menu was limited and a bit overpriced, at least for my weird offering at £17. There seemed to be some renovation work going on in the entrance area, all good, but didn't add to the ambience. We'd originally looked into this for a Sunday lunch, which seems popular with others, would possibly try it for that in future.

Avoid at all costs, I asked for a carrot cake to be heated( I have done this numerous times before) first guy said we can’t (I think he was training- so no problem) other guy said yes let me take it for you. The coffee took 5 to 10 minutes so carrot cake was cold, I asked for a re-heat and was refused after spending £18 plus for 2 coffees and 2 cakes. He said the chef recommended it cold - I can’t eat cold cake as it’s too dry and I have no saliva due to cancer treatment - do I feel like explaining this, no. I was here to collect a winter coat, I treat myself to something every year, never will I frequent House of bruer again, extreme reaction ? - No. I said to coffee guy I’ll speak to manager he replied “good luck then sir” I’m fuming.

I would give two stars for the food and one star for table etiquette. We were unimpressed when we sat down to a table setting of basic low-quality, stamped-out flatware with sharp edges. Three of us ordered meat (duck, pork and beef), the other fish. No alternative, appropriate knives were brought to suit the food, nor was the cutlery replaced after the starter. There were splotches of dried food debris on the underside of all the placemats, which apparently never gets wiped off when they are stacked. The food itself was okay, but portions were on the small side and overpriced for what it was, e.g. two slices of duck breast, 1" slice of sea bass, very little vegetable to accompany. The chicken liver parfait starter was good but came with only three small slices of toasted baguette and bread was £6 extra. There was an abundance of wait staff operating on high-speed settings. We had trouble understanding what kept so many staff on the run (literally) given the restaurant was not full and could have been disruptive were it a romantic dinner for two. We just watched the show. Overall, a four-star restaurant should pay more attention to detail, quality and cleanliness, if it wants to have a four-star reputation.

Restaurant was closed. Alternative provision was a coffee van near the car park. The barrister seemed to be operating at half-speed. Perhaps the cold had got to him.
