Another fantastic evening with fantastic food, service and atmosphere. Always a great experience, best Chinese for miles

The rudest restaurant I've ever been to, they served Chinese families that came in half hour after us, and had the cheack to tell us they never ordered starts but they ordered about 20 items, there was 10 of us. None of the dishes came out together, we should of sat on deferent tables, the staff are rude and obnoxious think they need to go on a hospitality course, absolutely disgusting

To my mind if they can't do the basics well then you should swerve and I'm definitely swerving this place from here on, used to be really good but I think it's changed hands , reduced their menu and gone for cheaper ingredients which has drastically affected the quality of their output. Unfortunately it's now also over priced as a result...most of the food left on the plate..you may have an entirely different experience, but once this bad is enough that I won't be back....there's far better to be had so save your money!!

Recomanded by friends and finally go for dinner tonight. To myself it is similar to the meals I have had in Hong Kong, especially the roasted duck and bbq pork. Will definitely come again for the steamed chicken with ginger and spring onion.

Waited 40 minutes for my order, not a problem. What I served up when I got home was utterly bland and dry. The crispy chilli beef was horrendous. If I was paying Kam-Too prices I wouldn’t be complaining. Shame really… £30 down 👎🏻

Food is really good and authentic. The restaurant is always busy. They don’t need customers but customers like me need the good food and yet the owner and staff never compromise on their excellent service. A pleasure to have this nice restaurant in Cosham.

Really lovely food, reminds me of Chinese food from the 70s and 80s very tasty, good size portions, service was fine. The only thing was the lights were a bit bright

Looked busy so thought it would be good. Staff not welcoming (apart from the lady that works there who was friendly). Otherwise we felt like a nuisance. Food was so greasy and tasted horrible, like old oil was being used. Would not go there again.

Loved the food. One of the waiters provided a good service and ensured we were satisfied. Food is cheap and served in large portions, meaning it is enough to fill you up. However it is full during dinnertime so you might have to book in advance for a table.

As others have said, the food is very good, and the place (Tues evening) was full of Chinese, which is always a good sign. However there was absolutely no atmosphere, and none of the staff came across as welcoming at all. Such a shame when the food is good, albeit a bit pricy for Cosham. On paying the bill with a card, they said they only take cash for the tip part. In chain restaurants I can understand this, but this I thought was a family restaurant, and I didn't have any cash on me. The waiter's attitude to this was very negative, so they just took the food bill. Their loss. Not sure if I would return.

It was my first time visiting The Taste of China in Portsmouth, the food was incredible and the service was great. I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Portsmouth.

Great food. Literally the most authentic Chinese (Cantonese restaurant) in Portsmouth.

Decent Chinese food but hot and miss on freshness depending on the day you visit.

Disappointed. 1st Time back for a while still very busy .but service just as bad & orders mixed up . Food still of a good standard when it arrives . this restaurant just seems to have lost it edge now a ordinary resturant nothing special. Such a shame

Wow! What a fantastic night! Seven of us ate what we all felt was the most authentic Chinese meal we had experienced 😋 I would happily compare the food favourably to that I had the luck to eat in Hong Kong many years ago. Our friend recommended The Taste of China, him being a long standing customer 😀 How right he was - good atmosphere and excellent service, as well as a memorable meal 😀 Truly deserves its reputation 😌 Looking forward to the next visit 😀 😊

It is filthy .. so un inviting.. was once really nice but no longer has the ambience and the good has gone down hill .. such a shame

Terrible takeaway fried rice is bland just white rice and egg. No soya sauce, no seasonings, no onions or veg at all. Worst fried rice I've had and I've had a few.

What an absolute shambles.. I booked a table for 7:30 for me and my family .. When we got to the restaurant they couldn’t seat us and all the staff members I spoke to was not interested in speaking to me .. after standing in the middle of the restaurant for 30 mins we had to leave .. would strongly recommend not visiting Taste of China .. After moving to the area we were hoping that this would be a regular place to visit .. will not be going back again

Takeout. Food great and I've tried few takeouts in the area and this is the best by far. I won't go anywhere else. Satay chicken on skewers is gorgeous

Good food, but not worth the hour and a half they took to deliver our order. Called after an hour and was told it would be ten more minutes; it took another thirty before it arrived. No apology or compensation.

An excellent place for a succulent Chinese meal! Great service, even though it was a very busy Friday evening. We had the Peking duck as a main, and it was amazing. Highly recommended 👌

They make the best and the freshest Chinese in the town. If me and my husband fancy Chinese dinner we always either go there or get a take away! Whenever we go by or come to eat in - there are always loads of people eating there which is also a great indicator that the food is delicious! Thank you Taste of China Team! Where to start. Anyone reading the reviews about this Cesspit of a takeaway, be warned steer clear. Can’t really call it food that was delivered to us!! The whole order was tasteless cold. to name a few things wrong The Sweet and Sour Hong Kong chicken was tough like rubber. The rice was cold stuck together. The whole order was disgusting. We have both been throwing up in the night. Taste of China whoever prepared/ served this takeaway up this is not over by a long way.

Another very good evening at the Taste of China. Great atmosphere, fantastic food and drinks coupled with great service as always. We will definitely be returning again soon

Shocking answer your phones!!!! 45 minutes late nobody answered we tried calling over 100 times to get hold of you to find out where it was assumed you must be closed then it arrived as the other takeaway turned up refused it at the door will not be returning

Order was well over an hour late, even more so that if received a message saying “enjoy your food” but it didn’t arrive till about 45 minutes after this. Also I tried to ring the restaurant 56 times and noone answered the phone. I’m not very happy with this service at all. I’m not usually one for leaving reviews at all let alone negative ones but I’m appalled by the service and quality of food that I’ve recieved and I would like at least a 50% refund for at least the complete inconvenience of it

Set lunch menu is amazing value, food is delicious and the service is lovely, we come often as we always enjoy everything, it’s a great place to go with friends.

When with friends for a cheeky lunchtime get together. Wow..... just £8.90 for a 3 course menu which was fabulous. Just what we needed.... food was great as always 👍

After waiting over 1.5 hours for our food. It came cold. Lemon chicken was dry, chips were burnt and oily. Chilli chicken was disgusting. Such a shame as this was usually our go to but will find another.

I think the chef has changed at this particular chinese . used this for a few years but my last few orders have not been nice

Updated to include evening meal. Firstly the lunch special is amazing and always busy (just do it) I've now also had three evening meals and it's always very busy and the food is very good.

Usually love the food here but due to being unable to find my address, my chow mein felt like it was reheated and the rest of the food was lukewarm.

Old school Chinese restaurant that's served most authentic anglochinese dishes that immortalised in taste bud. Cheapest three course lunch with massive potions. Always busy but food magically appear before you can burp to make more room for delish yummy Chinese. Highly recommended either lunch or dinner.

Worst crispy duck I have ever had and I have had this in China, Singapore, USA, Canada, Holland and UK. Dried out, no crispy skin, terrible! I asked for it on the bone and they called me to say there is no bone? They get it delivered already shredded. Unbelievable. Completely spoilt the meal. Do not ever order this from Taste of China!

A tasty Chinese with some good vegetarian options and very reasonably priced. The vegetarian platter is good to share and the tofu dishes are quite nice.

My family have been using this restaurant for years. However, myself, I’ve only ever thought it pretty standard… But the last two trips, including tonight have been appalling to the maximum… Some might say, I should not have returned After the last appalling trip, but they had a big birthday party, extremely loud, extremely vulgar language and quite upsetting As I had my young children with me, quite disgusting, but no stop of this really bad behaviour and language was asked to be eased up from this crowd from any of the staff, albeit children are sitting on the next table!!… so put i it to one side for that reason That maybe this was out of their hands to a point! However, tonight, all of the food was cold, literally stone cold!! we had spare ribs that were literally so burnt onto the bones. It was practically snapping off!.. so I refused for my young children to eat too much of it, as it was literally like shards of glass. Horrendous . We then had half a peking aromatic duck… Stone cold again, the pancakes were all stuck together simply ripping apart in Strips... The duck was so burnt and dry. We found countless snapped and shredded bones inside of our meat after having been “prepared”!! at the table… So my kids, who, like the cucumber with the duck, which is supposed to be supplied to your taste, I guess?!.. came as such a small small portion. It was literally embarrassing!.. possibly 6 tiniest little strands of cucumber and the same with spring onion😳 about 10pence worth in total!.. so I asked the waitress if my children could have a few more strands of cucumber… So reluctantly, tutting and huffing, she brought us some more, so it carries on .. all of the soft drinks were completely flat , in old glasses, no tablecloth, paper menus thrown at us, And staff could not wait for everyone to leave, To the point where they were clearing the tables when we were still eating off of our plates!!, they were clearing our food and plates from underneath us…. It was absolutely terrible… but they Allowed us in to sit at a table at 7:45 this evening, so not late!!! I didn’t want to make a fuss, just simply decided that never again Would I return to this place in Cosham .. it’s so dirty, the carpet is filthy, the whole place needs renovating to the maximum for the last 10 years I should think!! So not wanting to upset my family, I simply decided would not ever return again! and I will just pay the bill and leave… UNTIL…. Upon receiving my bill, we had also been charged £3 EXTRA for the measly, little bit of cucumber that I requested for my son with the duck As the plate they had brought to accompany the duck was empty to begin with!!! SIMPLY AVOID THIS CHINESE RESTAURANT !!! “THE TASTE OF CHINA” COSHAM PORTSMOUTH

We visited on 07/11/2023 and had the Menu B for 2 people. The starters arrived quickly and were hot, except for the spring rolls which were still cold inside. These were taken back and 2 more hot ones given to us. The ribs were OK and the prawn toasts were great. The duck? Very hot and tasty, but there were too few veggies and not enough sauce. The main course: The prawns were cooked well but had little taste. The crispy beef was chewy but OK. The chicken & veggies was slathered in tasteless sauce. The rice was OK, the rice being correctly cooked, the pork tasty but the prawns tasteless. And all of this for about £60, including tap water and a Diet Coke. We had heard this place was good and also popular with the Chinese community, something that I had always considered a good thing, but we won’t be returning unless something dramatic happens to the quality of the food.

First order from this restaurant and it was great. Generous size portions and quantities of veggies/meat for the value. Will definitely order again. Pleased to find a good Chinese.

Went here on a Thursday night unexpectedly as we'd had a bit of car trouble and needed to eat. Really really pleasantly surprised. Decor is a bit naff but the food was excellent, we had chicken satay, ribs cooked in paper (never had that before), a whole steamed sea bass, pork with aubergine and egg fried rice and it was all very well cooked with generous portions. Spent £50 between the two of us and we were pretty stuffed. Check out the seafood and Chinese menus for some more traditional dishes (saw one of the reviewers here was eating chips lmao)

As someone who recently moved to the UK, this is by far the best chinese food i've had in this country 🥹

First time here and not disappointed. The restaurant was full all the time we were there but the service was still very good. The food was very nice and fresh, all the dishes we had were great, the portions and value was very good. Would recommend a visit. Already booked to go back.

Very busy restaurant on a Monday evening, we had to wait for a table but it worth it since the food was really good. Highly recommend the crispy roast pork, it was one of the best I’ve tasted! Also really good service as the server was very friendly when he welcome us to our table.

This used to be a lovely place to eat. We arrived on a busy Saturday evening - no we hadn’t booked- which seemed to be a complete disaster to the older guy who seated us, and walked away shaking his head in disbelief. If he didn’t want us to stay he only had to say! Food was ok, nothing great and seaweed portion tiny. Was extremely busy but the younger members of staff were doing their best to serve everyone and were very friendly. Was surprised to be ordering from a paper take away menu at table. We won’t be back.
