What an absolute shambles.. I booked a table for 7:30 for me and my family .. When we got to the restaurant they couldn’t seat us and all the staff members I spoke to was not interested in speaking to me .. after standing in the middle of the restaurant for 30 mins we had to leave .. would strongly recommend not visiting Taste of China .. After moving to the area we were hoping that this would be a regular place to visit .. will not be going back again

Takeout. Food great and I've tried few takeouts in the area and this is the best by far. I won't go anywhere else. Satay chicken on skewers is gorgeous

Good food, but not worth the hour and a half they took to deliver our order. Called after an hour and was told it would be ten more minutes; it took another thirty before it arrived. No apology or compensation.

Food was amazing but delivery took 1hour 15 so far still waiting again food 5 stars but service and delivery earned this review 1 star

An excellent place for a succulent Chinese meal! Great service, even though it was a very busy Friday evening. We had the Peking duck as a main, and it was amazing. Highly recommended 👌

They make the best and the freshest Chinese in the town. If me and my husband fancy Chinese dinner we always either go there or get a take away! Whenever we go by or come to eat in - there are always loads of people eating there which is also a great indicator that the food is delicious! Thank you Taste of China Team! Where to start. Anyone reading the reviews about this Cesspit of a takeaway, be warned steer clear. Can’t really call it food that was delivered to us!! The whole order was tasteless cold. to name a few things wrong The Sweet and Sour Hong Kong chicken was tough like rubber. The rice was cold stuck together. The whole order was disgusting. We have both been throwing up in the night. Taste of China whoever prepared/ served this takeaway up this is not over by a long way.

Another very good evening at the Taste of China. Great atmosphere, fantastic food and drinks coupled with great service as always. We will definitely be returning again soon

Shocking answer your phones!!!! 45 minutes late nobody answered we tried calling over 100 times to get hold of you to find out where it was assumed you must be closed then it arrived as the other takeaway turned up refused it at the door will not be returning

Order was well over an hour late, even more so that if received a message saying “enjoy your food” but it didn’t arrive till about 45 minutes after this. Also I tried to ring the restaurant 56 times and noone answered the phone. I’m not very happy with this service at all. I’m not usually one for leaving reviews at all let alone negative ones but I’m appalled by the service and quality of food that I’ve recieved and I would like at least a 50% refund for at least the complete inconvenience of it

Set lunch menu is amazing value, food is delicious and the service is lovely, we come often as we always enjoy everything, it’s a great place to go with friends.

When with friends for a cheeky lunchtime get together. Wow..... just £8.90 for a 3 course menu which was fabulous. Just what we needed.... food was great as always 👍

After waiting over 1.5 hours for our food. It came cold. Lemon chicken was dry, chips were burnt and oily. Chilli chicken was disgusting. Such a shame as this was usually our go to but will find another.

I think the chef has changed at this particular chinese . used this for a few years but my last few orders have not been nice

Updated to include evening meal. Firstly the lunch special is amazing and always busy (just do it) I've now also had three evening meals and it's always very busy and the food is very good.

Usually love the food here but due to being unable to find my address, my chow mein felt like it was reheated and the rest of the food was lukewarm.

Old school Chinese restaurant that's served most authentic anglochinese dishes that immortalised in taste bud. Cheapest three course lunch with massive potions. Always busy but food magically appear before you can burp to make more room for delish yummy Chinese. Highly recommended either lunch or dinner.

Worst crispy duck I have ever had and I have had this in China, Singapore, USA, Canada, Holland and UK. Dried out, no crispy skin, terrible! I asked for it on the bone and they called me to say there is no bone? They get it delivered already shredded. Unbelievable. Completely spoilt the meal. Do not ever order this from Taste of China!

A tasty Chinese with some good vegetarian options and very reasonably priced. The vegetarian platter is good to share and the tofu dishes are quite nice.

My family have been using this restaurant for years. However, myself, I’ve only ever thought it pretty standard… But the last two trips, including tonight have been appalling to the maximum… Some might say, I should not have returned After the last appalling trip, but they had a big birthday party, extremely loud, extremely vulgar language and quite upsetting As I had my young children with me, quite disgusting, but no stop of this really bad behaviour and language was asked to be eased up from this crowd from any of the staff, albeit children are sitting on the next table!!… so put i it to one side for that reason That maybe this was out of their hands to a point! However, tonight, all of the food was cold, literally stone cold!! we had spare ribs that were literally so burnt onto the bones. It was practically snapping off!.. so I refused for my young children to eat too much of it, as it was literally like shards of glass. Horrendous . We then had half a peking aromatic duck… Stone cold again, the pancakes were all stuck together simply ripping apart in Strips... The duck was so burnt and dry. We found countless snapped and shredded bones inside of our meat after having been “prepared”!! at the table… So my kids, who, like the cucumber with the duck, which is supposed to be supplied to your taste, I guess?!.. came as such a small small portion. It was literally embarrassing!.. possibly 6 tiniest little strands of cucumber and the same with spring onion😳 about 10pence worth in total!.. so I asked the waitress if my children could have a few more strands of cucumber… So reluctantly, tutting and huffing, she brought us some more, so it carries on .. all of the soft drinks were completely flat , in old glasses, no tablecloth, paper menus thrown at us, And staff could not wait for everyone to leave, To the point where they were clearing the tables when we were still eating off of our plates!!, they were clearing our food and plates from underneath us…. It was absolutely terrible… but they Allowed us in to sit at a table at 7:45 this evening, so not late!!! I didn’t want to make a fuss, just simply decided that never again Would I return to this place in Cosham .. it’s so dirty, the carpet is filthy, the whole place needs renovating to the maximum for the last 10 years I should think!! So not wanting to upset my family, I simply decided would not ever return again! and I will just pay the bill and leave… UNTIL…. Upon receiving my bill, we had also been charged £3 EXTRA for the measly, little bit of cucumber that I requested for my son with the duck As the plate they had brought to accompany the duck was empty to begin with!!! We visited on 07/11/2023 and had the Menu B for 2 people. The starters arrived quickly and were hot, except for the spring rolls which were still cold inside. These were taken back and 2 more hot ones given to us. The ribs were OK and the prawn toasts were great. The duck? Very hot and tasty, but there were too few veggies and not enough sauce. The main course: The prawns were cooked well but had little taste. The crispy beef was chewy but OK. The chicken & veggies was slathered in tasteless sauce. The rice was OK, the rice being correctly cooked, the pork tasty but the prawns tasteless. And all of this for about £60, including tap water and a Diet Coke. We had heard this place was good and also popular with the Chinese community, something that I had always considered a good thing, but we won’t be returning unless something dramatic happens to the quality of the food.

First order from this restaurant and it was great. Generous size portions and quantities of veggies/meat for the value. Will definitely order again. Pleased to find a good Chinese.

Went here on a Thursday night unexpectedly as we'd had a bit of car trouble and needed to eat. Really really pleasantly surprised. Decor is a bit naff but the food was excellent, we had chicken satay, ribs cooked in paper (never had that before), a whole steamed sea bass, pork with aubergine and egg fried rice and it was all very well cooked with generous portions. Spent £50 between the two of us and we were pretty stuffed. Check out the seafood and Chinese menus for some more traditional dishes (saw one of the reviewers here was eating chips lmao)

As someone who recently moved to the UK, this is by far the best chinese food i've had in this country 🥹

First time here and not disappointed. The restaurant was full all the time we were there but the service was still very good. The food was very nice and fresh, all the dishes we had were great, the portions and value was very good. Would recommend a visit. Already booked to go back.

Very busy restaurant on a Monday evening, we had to wait for a table but it worth it since the food was really good. Highly recommend the crispy roast pork, it was one of the best I’ve tasted! Also really good service as the server was very friendly when he welcome us to our table.

This used to be a lovely place to eat. We arrived on a busy Saturday evening - no we hadn’t booked- which seemed to be a complete disaster to the older guy who seated us, and walked away shaking his head in disbelief. If he didn’t want us to stay he only had to say! Food was ok, nothing great and seaweed portion tiny. Was extremely busy but the younger members of staff were doing their best to serve everyone and were very friendly. Was surprised to be ordering from a paper take away menu at table. We won’t be back.

We have been going to Taste of China in cosham Portsmouth for many years and can throughly recommend the food as it is one of the best Chinese restaurants in Portsmouth. The only thing now that is letting them down is the way it is now being ran by the staff as they seem to have an attitude of first come first serve as the last 2 times we have been there we have booked tables for 7.30 and they are not ready for us and the restaurant is full up with no booked table for us we then have had to wait half an hour for a table to be free along with other groups of people who have also booked. This is not good enough and not a very good way of running a business as eventually they will lose customers as people will not go back. This is a shame but needs to be addressed.

Placed an order over the phone for delivery, it was a cumbersome process but just about managed. Food was ok, sweet and sour sauce was too sour, too much vinegar for my taste. I've had better chicken balls more batter needed and not as crispy as I would have liked. What put me totally off was the wait. 2 hours and 6 minutes for the food to arrive! Not acceptable in my opinion especially when realistic expectations were not given nor met. (We were told it would be an hour). I appreciate it was busy and was a Saturday evening but I would not use this takeaway again as service not up to scratch and food was not out of this world to counter it.

Great food as always ,crispy roast pork is sooo good ,but service wasn't great ,waited over 30 minutes for a drink and order to be taken ..they forgot our prawn crackers...was hard to catch their eye for more drinks ,it was busy for a Tuesday evening and I understand that ,but did feel the service wasn't good ..so unfortunately won't be rushing back there.

Had the lunchtime menu. Lots of choices for starters and mains, only 2 choices for desserts, but for the price they are charging, that is not a problem. The food is delicious and the price for 3 courses is fantastic. It is frequented by Chinese people, that is a great sign that the food is great. Thoroughly recommend it

Food is absolutely amazing, the best in the area. If the staff smiled and were a bit friendly the place would be faultless. The lady is nice but all the men are very grumpy, they certainly don't make you feel welcome or grateful you are a regular customer. Such a shame. We only still go because the food is delicious

The food was absolutely disgusting, the Thai curry was not a Thai curry at all, the crispy seaweed was soggy, the ribs where just pure gristle! Absolutely disgusting for £54!!!!!!

Great food, amazing atmosphere, a real great night out for the family. We regularly come here as a family of 6/10 and have an amazing time every time. Drinks a little expensive but doesn't take away from the review. Great sit in Chinese meal.

The Good: Amazing food. Friendly & attentive staff. Good value. Lots of Chinese customers (which is always a good sign). The Bad: Our table was by entrance. Lots of people queuing for their takeaway by entrance meant door always opening (letting draft in) & our table crowded by people waiting. It was a very busy time (7pm Saturday) & it took a while for staff to get to us - however, they did great under the circumstances. Plates are really small (like a side plate). We had a rowdy group of drunk men next to us. No fault of the restaurant but killed the atmosphere for us. Verdict: We would definitely come again but would specify to have table away from entrance. The small plates were a blessing in disguise, as they allowed for lots of courses on table.

We ordered and received confirmation at 17.30 with estimated delivery of 18.20 -18.40 we had quests with children and with value of order £124 expected delivery on time. Called taste of china at 19.20 to chase and was told they hadn’t even printed of order and delivery would now be an extra 20-30 mins , finally got order at 19.55 not 18.25 as web site and by this time everyone was past being hungry and a lot of the order ended being binned. This is not what we expect.

Hidden gem need to book ahead as it's popular and a small place. Really great value and taste good too. Service is fast

Excellent food but service dreadful

Very nice Chinese food, great furnishing inside, and friendly staff. Served us some cold chicken feet (free) as starter, a pleasant surprise, and also fruit at the end. Scallops were nice, roast duck was authentic. The pricing was no doubt a bargain.

Food was bland. Noodles was just boiled and tasteless. Chips wasn’t seasoned and was overcooked and soggy. Ribs was dry with little meat. The curry sauce had exploded over everything, paid for large chicken balls only got 5. I normally always order from here so I’m extra gutted.

Authentic Chinese, lovely staff and set meal is amazing value. Vegetarian options pretty good. Duck is highly rated by my meat eating Chinese partner and cheap for the vast portion. Cash tipping only.

We've ordered from her many times, the food is usually excellent. All was great today except for the seaweed, it had a strange hard/crunchy texture - not like usual seaweed and not like their usual seaweed - otherwise everything was great.

Chinese Chinatown quality at good prices. We have dined here for almost a decade now and has stood well for good cooked food and exceptional value. We always do a walk in but peak hours do get very busy so reservations is vital. We have the traditional 4 dish meal plus rice and the food is top notch for a traditional Chinese cuisune to compare with the Chinese Chinatown quality but not paying London prices. Definetely a regular haunt for Southn West Chinese dining.
