The outside looked really colourful and clean so decided to give it a try for lunch. Wish we hadn’t, the place is so dirty and scruffy. The food is so average and definitely not worth the price we paid. Others were complaining too so it’s not just us being fussy

We called and booked a table on our way back home to spilt our journey. We have been here before though only for drinks. We liked the pub, our table was reserved, the prices were very good. The staff very nice. We had Sunday lunch, the beef was far too raw for us, mine had a bit too much fat and gristle. My partner went at the far side of the bar to pay, which goes between 2 rooms, as we were ready to leave and could also see the lady calculating the bills, apparently the barman went quickly to the end of the bar, the lady apparently laughed and said he thought you were leaving without paying! Insulted by that and wont be going again.

What a fab pub! We were staying across the road at the The Crown Hotel, but wanted to watch the football. Beautiful baskets of flowers outside and inside decorated with hops. There were TV screens in enough places and they turned the volume up! I can’t recommend the roast dinner enough. Two courses for £17.50. Worth well over £25. The roasts came with 5 different veg including cauliflower cheese! A real treat. The best roast out that i’ve had in a long time.

Decided to pop in for lunch a lovely pub with nice outside area.We both ordered the prawns with chilli and sour dough bread as we fancied a change. Expecting them usually to come in a dish for you to dip your sour dough bread in we couldnt be further wrong ! They arrived on what look liked a piece of normal bread toasted ( a piece of toast) as you can see from pics.Asked the waitress what do you think that is to which she replies "Looks like toast sir" I told her it was just frozen bread toasted and she said she would have a word with chef to which she came back and said the chef said it was sour dough bread lol .I am no gordon ramsey but if the chef thought that was sour dough bread he is obviously blind or in the wrong occupation it was just frozen tastless bread toasted .Such a shame but £8 for a couple of prawns on a couple of pieces of toast is a total jpke and penny pinching comes to mind!!!

Food order got messed up which meant a very long wait between starter and mains, offered an took a free dessert but was a poor expression. Quirky set up whereby you pay for your meal and any drinks you have at the dining table separately. So, I paid for the meal and then had to queue at the bar (with everyone waiting for drinks) to pay for a drink I had an hour beforehand 🤷🏻♂️

We had booked here for Sunday lunch 4 adults , 1 vegetarian. The staff were not very attentive, didn’t show us to the table , then we had to ask for a menu. We asked for the vegetarian options, a vegetable tikka curry or Sunday dinner without the meat, no plant based alternatives. Don’t like curry so opted for the Sunday lunch it was a huge plate of veg, cauliflower cheese , carrots , roast pots, broccoli, parsnips and more, with gravy. It was delicious but would have been nicer with a meat alternative. The other dinners were lovely apparently too. I would visit again but hopefully they have a better vegetarian menu.

Had a great evening meal there a couple of nights ago. The prices were reasonable, the food was good and the waitress service was excellent. On a warm night it would have been lovely to eat outside and watch the world go by but it was a little cold so we ate in the small, snug dining room. Would return

We came upon this lovely place today by chance when we decided to meet our friends at a halfway point which turned out to be Boroughbridge. This pub is so warm and inviting and very friendly. We decided to have dinner and we all choose different meals and everything was delicious. We were so impressed we are arranging a return visit.

Really good value, traditional home cooked meals. Good service and nice beers. Pub has been recently refurbished and had a great, busy atmosphere. Not much on menu for veggies but otherwise excellent. Bar was busy and had a nice vibe. Definitely recommend

The pub has completely transformed from the former ‘shoe’s’ and continues to grow. The selection of beers and ales are exceptional The new decor has lifted this place it to a classy yet timeless bar seeped in history. The food has gone from strength to strength and a new team in the kitchen has only strengthened the offering of gastro pub vibes Absolutely the number one place to be for drinks!

Being local we visited the inn when it was The Three Horseshoes a few times, more of a drinking establishment it was just about ok then never busy and a bit dull. Now it has been transformed into an amazing place to visit, always buzzing with a brilliant vibe with good honest food all reasonably priced. Now the No 1 pub in the Town by a mile.

First and last visit on a cold day. Very disappointed with the quality and presentation of the food, a luke warm Sunday roast. The place was cold (no heating) on a freezing day.

Great new owners but some changes needed. A local discount card £10 worth every penny 🥳 Get the stools removed from the busy bar on a Friday tea time - need to order drinks 🤦♂️. Friendly staff and keep up the new standards. Maybe consider a real fire 🔥 for cosy atmosphere. A welcome addition to our lovely town!! We enjoyed our drinks. No food as yet but plenty looked to be eating.

I absolutely love the new look of this pub. The selection of drinks/ales/beers is just brilliant - second to none locally for choice! The staff are always top notch. I haven’t tried the food out yet but definitely will. I’m excited for where this pub is going. Definitely give it a go when you’re in town.

Stayed at the Crown ( soul less place, disinterested/rude reception staff) and wanted to find somewhere local for food and drink. We received a warm welcome at the Tap on the Tun, staff friendly, lovely warm atmosphere and great food. If you’re in the area make sure you visit this lovely pub.

Stumbled on this little eatery while visiting Knaresborough on a Sunday lunch time. We went in to get maybe a sandwich and thought it wasn’t going to be great to be honest but ended up having a cooked lunch and it was so good! The place was busy and you could tell they were locals as they were chatting across to each other. We looked at the menu and decided to have have a cooked meal. I ordered pie chips and peas and my husband a burger with chips salad and coleslaw and a pot of tea. You could actually get a 3 course Sunday lunch for £14.50! When mine came there were no peas but another bowl soon arrived full of fresh vegetables and a big jug of gravy. Food was really good the staff were lovely. The lady said that as she had been cooking Sunday lunches she gave me some of the veg. We were thoroughly impressed and wouldn’t hesitate to visit again. Great food and great value for money! Definitely worth trying!

Recently stayed for 3 nights whilst at a conference. All of the staff were incredibly welcoming and chatty, room (no.4) was clean, comfortable, spacious and homely. The Full Yorkshire Breakfast was the absolute star of the show, best I've had in years, and the location spot on for the town centre shops and bars and conference centre. Highly recommend staying here

Best afternoon tea about! Mama Doreen’s never disappoints, the food is beautiful as is the fizz! The staff are friendly, attentive and extremely patient (when customers are being outright rude and difficult). Big shout out to Elliot who was amazing, thank you for making my mums birthday so special! Can’t wait to come back soon xxx
