The Crown Inn in Harrogate

Popped in for a pint while waiting for a takeaway. We were in Pateley Bridge for a couple of days (a lovely place to visit), and although we were only in the pub for half an hour, it was clearly a nice place. Reasonable range of beers as long as you don't want anything beyond the standard fair, although they did have a few bottles as well. Worth a visit.

Right in the centre of the high street, this is a lovely pub that's dog friendly. We didn't eat here but the food looked amazing!

Call in today for lunch and a few drinks and I must say the baguettes with salad were delicious the bill came to £40 for 2 meals, 2 pints and 2 gin and tonic great service and value and very nice staff 🥳

Friendly professional staff and service

We stayed over valentines day and extra day, this is obviously a family enterprise, attentive service, really great food, top quality locally sourced and bought. We had a great stay, rooms clean and warm ( it was snowing outside so inside warmth was important.) Breakfast was really good and wholesome. Would not hesitate to book here again.

Spent an entire afternoon in the Crown a couple of weeks ago. Me and the Mrs were spending the weekend in the shepherds huts nearby. This is the best pub to visit in Pateley bridge if you’re a tourist and it’s definitely the most welcoming pub in the area. We did wonder into another pub that we had to sign into and the entire time we were sat with our drink, we felt everyone’s eyes on us. We quickly finished our drinks and went back to the Crown. The Landlady is great and her son works in the kitchen. That guy can cook a pheasant 👌🏼. Thanks guys for a great afternoon.

Been to the Crown Inn for food and we were not disappointed, it was delicious ☺️ service was excellent too, not long wait time. The young lady waitress took a very good care of us and made sure we were okay with everything, she was really nice ♥️ it was very pleasant and tasty dinner/lunch we had! Thank you 😊

Room was spacious but there was a terrible smell in the toilet when we arrived. We couldn't get breakfast until 9am but it was no good as we had to start work at 8am.

Popped in for a drink, nice and warm bar space gets crowded but ok. Prices seem higher than most of the local pubs

Nice little pub, good food, good service

I recently visited, and unfortunately, my experience was incredibly disappointing. I discovered plastic in my food, which raised serious concerns about the hygiene and food safety standards of the establishment. While the staff offered an apology, I was shocked that I was still charged the full price for the contaminated dish. This level of service and lack of accountability is unacceptable. Food safety should be a top priority for any restaurant, and this experience has completely shaken my trust in their practices. I cannot recommend dining here and would urge others to be cautious.

I went into this “establishment” on Sunday the 19th of January 2025 ordered 1 pint with my friend and we started playing darts and after about half an hour the land lady told the bar staff not to serve me any more alcohol (I’m 19 with id) we carried on playing darts and she continued to walk over to us and told us to leave just because she didn’t want us there, very very rude woman

Super fast service for a group of 7 people. Food service was quick and the quality and quantity made it great value

Stayed three nights to visit Pateley Bridge, Nidderdale Llamas, breweries in Masham. A great stay! Rooms clean and comfy, staff friendly and very helpful, good beers, excellent breakfasts and evening meals, well cooked and of generous Yorkshire proportions. We plan to stay here and eat here again the next time we go llama trekking. In short, highly recommended!

A lovely pub on the High Street with a good range of ales and wines. We all had fish and chips after a long walk and were not disappointed by the large portion size and quality of food. The service was attentive without being overbearing. Worth booking at a weekend.

If you enjoy a passive aggressive rude landlady who prefers their guests to be wet and cold, this place is a must visit.. Drying your clothing items near the fire will result in them being thrown in your face. Do yourself a favour and go to the Royal Oak where the same round will be half the price!

Wonderfully friendly staff. The room was perfect and the food brilliant. The steak pie was bigger than my head. Great value all round. Perfect spot to start the loop to Birnham Rocks

Great watering hole stop off from or to The Lakes and North Yorkshire Dales. Bar well stocked and great draught choices. Poor mobile signal and sadly In house free WiFi didn't work so dropped a star and had to go elsewhere to use internet for bookings and travel arrangements etc.

Great place, food and beer is outstanding

Average lunch. Waitress was friendly but forgot some drinks and it took a long time to get served at the bar. Drinks were on the expensive side, over £6 for a pint of cask and £8 for a small wine. Food was okay, steak pie was a little stale and raw on the bottom, kids meal was great. High chairs and kids toys readily available. Deserts were good. Overall, arguably overpriced for the quality.

Shocking customer service. Very rude staff and very contradicting from signs to staffs opinions. Won't be returning! Also a horrible dark hole, no atmosphere at all.

Didn’t actually stay in a room on this occasion but have done so in the past and definitely would again. Just went in for a meal with family and friends this time. As always the food, service and atmosphere were all FANTASTIC !!!

Just pub grub. Not very exciting. No imagination for the sea bass. No sauce, just bland. Thai sea cake flavourless. We can make better meals at home.

Only came for lunch. Called last Sunday with family. Had the Carvery and the chef was brilliant allowing me to have a taste of. All the meats. We were on a table closed to the pass. Which was a mistake. Too crowded.Food in general good. But too small a plate, so several items fell on the floor. Staff first class, perhaps a better table and less meat, wud have been best

The Sunday carvery is excellent, a good choice of food all cooked to perfection. The evening meals are also top class. The staff are friendly, tentative and hard working. I would highly recommend.

What a nice pub that is dog friendly. We had drinks and lunch. The bar lady was very pleasant and bought our drinks over very quickly. We ordered. Sandwiches prawn mayo on brown bread served with side salad and coleslaw. Hubby had bacon and Brie on a warm baguette with salad and coleslaw. We ordered a portion of chips. There was plenty of filling in the sandwiches and the chips were thick and crispy. The whole meal was very good and served by pleasant staff. We will return this was our first visit

Not a good experience for us, it took us a good while to get served with drinks and food. when the food did come it was very poor Quality. Steak ale pie was uneatable with Frozen chips, and quite expensive. The staff were rude it was if we were in their way. Please take my advice and avoid at all cost, go to the fish and chip shop across the road, You will get better quality food and service.

We only called in for a drink whilst visiting the area. The prices for a couple of beers were extortionate. We were asked to leave at around 10pm as they said "Diners are our business, and we have to be up at 9 for breakfasts". We asked if there was anywhere else in the area we could get a drink after 10pm. They mentioned the pub up the road, but were very derogatory about the clientèle there. It was actually great there and we wished we'd have gone there first!

Nice locals pub in the middle of Pateley Bridge. Service friendly enough and good choice of drinks. Didn’t order food, but what we saw others eating looked to be good hearty pub food.

This review is for the restaurant only and I really do not understand where the positive mentions come from. The service is truly good and the waitress was ever so nice, but the food is really mediocre. We had the burgers and they were a real disappointment. If something is badly cooked you can send the course out and ask for something else, but this… The bread obviously came from a plastic bag at Tescos and the meat probably from the same place. It was sturdy and tasted just about nothing. The portion is big but the satisfaction is not. For a £16 burger I would expect so much more.

My family and I went for dinner on a Saturday evening and although the pub was very busy we were served our drinks and food in good time. The Steak and Ale Pie is lovely with a huge portion, the gravey to go with it is fantastic. I would highly recommend this pub.

Situated on the High Street in Pately Bridge, this friendly traditional pub offers an excellent Carvery-style Sunday lunch from 12.00 - 3.00pm. Delicious, home-cooked food, comprising a choice of 3 roasts cooked to perfection and a great selection of about 9 veg, including less predictable offerings such as creamed leeks and red cabbage. The walls of the dining area are lined with dozens of Neil Simone prints, as well as another talented artist. It's worth going just to see those! As with many small businesses who suffer crippling charges imposed by the huge banking corps, cash is preferred if you can, so knowing that in advance will help you support them. Go. Eat. You won't regret it! You can always take a stroll along the beautiful river to walk it off!

Terrible customer service. Landlady was extremely rude and curt when a simple request was rejected as out of hand. No apologies, no basic courtesy or eye contact. 2 other staff members seemed fine but wow, couldn't believe the response I got to a very polite enquiry! Shockingly poor!

Staff were very polite & professional dressed very smart greeted us with a smile. The food was fantastic I ordered steak and ale pie with seasonal vegetables with a choice of chips or mash, I can honestly say it was the best steak pie I've ever had full of meat with lashings of gravy and enough vegetables to feed 4 if us. Our table ordered ravioli, seabass houlimi cheese 🧀 everyone on my table loved the food and the service we will definitely be coming to try there Sunday roast. For the price we paid we was shocked as it was so good. Would definitely reccomend anyone going to pately Bridge to book a table here for top quality dining out.

My friend and I stayed on Saturday 27 April and what a lovely place this is. Great atmosphere, very friendly staff and the rooms were lovely and extremely comfortable. We had a meal in the restaurant, being booked in at very short notice even though they were very busy. We both had steak which was delicious and perfectly cooked. It had a lovely mix of local people and tourists and is obviously very popular. What a great find we will be back. Thank you for a lovely stay, it just wasn't long enough.

Remember the 1981 movie "an American werewolf in London"? Well this pub needs to be renamed the Slaughtered Lamb! Enter at your own risk and be warned if you do you will understand where I am coming from.

Across the courtyard from our holiday cottage , we had a few drinks. The staff were very welcoming, and the locals in the bar were very pleasant. It's a really nice atmosphere.

‘Land lady’ is so rude it’s ridiculous. Made our whole family feel really uncomfortable. After leaving we were told by multiple locals that she is very well known for being rude & unfriendly. Visited the Royal Oak afterwards which was much more friendly and pleasant.

Accidentally smashed a lamp which had wires roaming all about the place and was RUDELY told to leave. We offered to pay for the damages but was not accepted. Was extremely rude and was not polite at all. Will not be returning.

On Saturday the 11th November we had a lovely meal. The service was excellent as was the food. All the staff looked after us well and we will definitely be going again.

Booked last minute for a group of 9 for Sunday lunch. Bit wary after some of the reviews but the service was brilliant and the food was delicious and plentiful. Wanted to try a dessert but didn't get past my main. Will have to order in reverse next time! Would definitely recommend and we will return next time we're in the area.

Some of the best food at reasonable prices we have ever tasted. Steak pie and the lasagna was amazing. Home cooked chips were great.

Went for Sunday lunch, roasties veg gravy Yorkshire pudding great !! But the Beef!! Don’t bother it’s straight out of a packet or just extremely overcooked and thin. I suggest the Crown omits the beef if it comes like that every week. My friend had the Moroccan Lamb, I really didn’t understand why lamb wasn’t on the Sunday lunch list of meats?? Just increase the price and serve a fabulous Sunday lunch.

I visited with a friend for lunch. The food was good, with suitable portion sizes and a fair price for the quality and quantity. The staff were friendly and attentive. We both said we would be back the next time we visit Pateley

Lovely lunch, large portions, reasonable prices, pleasant staff. Four of us plus our little dog enjoyed our stop over. Would definitely recommend if you are looking for a nice place for lunch in Pateley Bridge.

If your in the area I would highly recommend the food here . Lovely friendly staff,service very quick if not a bit too quick between courses. Food portion size is not for the faint hearted,probably the best lasagne I've ever had 😋

Good and bad elements... Good - excellent food, huge portions. Bad - two members of staffs' attitude. They were rude, and incredibly unwelcoming, even groaning at us asking questions about the food. I got the impression they simply did not like customers (unless you are a friend). This is such a shame because the building, location and food make it a great pub. Shame about the staff. I'm really glad I wasn't staying there!

This is the first pub I have ever got up and left having not finished my drink. I have never experienced such a rude member of staff, let alone Landlady. I am actually gobsmacked at the attitude and lack of customer service. I am not sure if she doesn’t like visitors, children or is just plain rude but she’s certainly in the wrong business. Do not visit if you want a warm welcome.

Been coming to the crown for several years under the old owners and now with the present owners. Never had a bad meal. Matt and Lynn go above and beyond for their customers. Nothing is too much trouble. They work so hard as do all their staff. The menu choice is good and they also have a specials board. Not the cheapest place to eat but portion size and food quality makes it worth it along with the pleasant staff. They make such a fuss our little girl and she loves going there.

I can’t recommend this place enough. Me and my partner came for a quick lunch here, not knowing the area. The young brunette waitress, was amazing very kind and attentive running the restaurant. The food is the best I’ve ever had. A good steak pie with a gravy, large portions. Chef needs a pay rise

The service was incredibly slow and we had to ask for sugar for the coffees. The food order was mistaken and the veg was raw. It wasn't cheap either. We won't be returning

A very friendly atmosphere with excellent service. I stayed one night to attend the Nidderdale Show & appreciated the quick check in etc. The food is amazing, I had the steak pie which had very tasty gravy & melt in the mouth pastry. Lovely large portion of veg/home made chips & the best onion rings I have ever eaten. All together an excellent & no hassle stay which is top of my list when staying away for business.

Monday night, post VV busy Pateley show weekend. Malaysian curry flavours exactly what you’d expect, spicy but warming coconut flavors, a nice variation to the traditional pub grub. (If you haven’t had Matts steak and Ale pie, you’ve missed a reet treat) CHECK OUT THE SPECIALS!! Great mix of local and seasonal meals. Game season is here. Super experienced pub run by people who care, can’t be faulted. Thanks guys

We had a lovely lunch here today. Good choice of dishes. We chose from the specials menu . The food was delicious and well presented . The fruit crumble and custard was really good! The waitress was very pleasant and helpful. Would recommend a visit.

Real shame, only went in for a beer after a lovely walk nearby. Got served at the bar by a lovely blonde haired barmaid, the other younger dark haired barmaid was a more frosty, we had our dog and she didn't make us feel welcome, we had another drink and was served by the frosty barmaid !! If you want to work in a tourist pub then at least try and be nice or get a different job. Will not be going again, we were going to go for an evening meal, we'll spend our money at a different more welcoming pub.

We were a group of 12. Staff were very accommodating, nothing was too much trouble, friendly with a very good service. Food was good and plenty of it. Thank you.

The bar staff do not treat tourists the same as the locals, their main aim is to overcharge using very sly tactics. On entering the establishment, we ordered two beers and two halves of lager. On receiving the news that it was £16.60, it was questioned why it was so expensive, around £5.50 a pint. The bar staff checked and replied that they had "accidentally" pressed pints of lager in error. The correct price was charged but someone who works in the establishment on a regular basis would know roughly what the correct price would be. Needless to say, we will not visit this place again.

One of the best B&Bs I've stayed at, nice rooms, great food and really nice genuine staff. I would recommend to anyone and would definitely go back.

Had a lovely Sunday lunch here today. We were a party of ten plus two dogs, after an initial mix up regarding seating, we enjoyed lovely food and service. The Sunday roasts were plentiful and the vegetables were perfectly cooked and included at least five...

Very disappointing from the moment we walked in I had booked a table for 5 to include a dog but this hadn’t been noted but a young Man soon got us a table in the dog area of the restaurant to be then abruptly told...

The bar manager serving us was very rude. We asked to order some chips (after they told us they were doing food) to get told they're doing a Sunday menu only. A different member of staff offered to put some chips on in the kitchen...
