Enjoy a wide selection of ales and ciders from craft breweries. Great atmosphere and dog-friendly. You must try the Ale cake. Goes well with beer or the free coffee/tea.

Amazing local, better then the rest been to a few pubs in ashby but the tap has a more of a classy vibe. Lovely beer me and the partner love the beers they have on tap nice and cold and clean shiny glasses not like some of the bars around town. They also offer to buy beer and take away home with you we loved it. we will be returning again and we have heard all positive reviews about this place. Excellent customer service from the staff really cheerful and bubbly.

Not huge but this super little bar has everything you need. A really friendly atmosphere, helpful bar service and modern, contemporary yet rustic decor. Lots of choice of craft ales or perhaps a cheeky G & T. There is always a superb range of bar snacks available but last Wednesday night Mrs Patel`s street food was available from the rear of the pub. Pay separately and eat it at your seat. Absolutely delicious, fragrant, quite spicy but not blow your head off heat. Impressive and good value for money. Many thanks.

Popped in for the crafternoon tea, and seated by a most pleasant helpful staff member in the window ready for people watching. The tea contents were explained to us and allowed to choose any of the beers from the extensive selection. Sandwiches were superb and I enjoyed the pasteries locally sourced.Overall a most pleasant deviation for tea. Recommended.

Just moved into the area and a few people had mentioned we should try this place. Got to be honest the ales and drink selection is very good but the place needs to sort out the condensation so when you sit in the windows you can actually see out, must also mention that be careful if you sit near the left hand window as there is a huge crack running down the glass top to bottom. Clearly a popular place though as it was nicely busy but with it being a small snug place the noise is a bit like being in a box with no where for the sound to go.

I was brought here by mates for whom this is a regular haunt. So glad they did. Great beer, great atmosphere and the best pork pie I think has ever passed my lips. In a three day visit, I was fortunate enough to come here twice; a busy Friday evening before an Indian meal and Sunday late lunch time after working up a thirst in my mate’s allotment. It was on this second occasion, in payment for sweat and toil in the allotment, he treated me to the pie and a black pudding scotch egg. Tollgate Brewery Ashby Pale Ale - a beautiful real ale - the surroundings, the food and the company of my friends made for a great experience. One to be repeated on my next visit to my chums.

What a transformation from a dark and fusty tea room. This little place is bustling with a good clientele of 30- 70 something's. There's only one problem, it's so successful you can't move. Still, if space and quiet is your order, try one of the other pubs in Ashby.

So pleased that Ashby has The Tap! It is strictly over-18s and we see that as a bonus as all the other pubs in Ashby cater for families. The interior is really tastefully done with a log-burner and tables/benches which encourage conversation. There is no background music but there is free wi-fi. There is always a great range of drinks on offer and these rotate regularly so don’t be afraid to ask for a taster if you’re unsure what to order. The staff are friendly and really knowledgeable so can make suggestions to your taste. There is free tea, coffee and water available as well as dog biscuits for your furry friend. The snacks are excellent - the Stilton pork pie is a favourite of ours. The bar can get busy, but as it’s a small place you just need to keep an eye out for when it thins and go for it! Great atmosphere, great range of drinks and snacks, great prices. Perfect!

We tried to visit this venue with family and our 5 month old grand-daughter in a pushchair. Bizarrely, we weren't even allowed in because our grand-daughter was under 18 years of age, despite the fact that she is clearly a young baby and we have regularly visited various pubs etc in the region without any problems. This seems like a really over zealous interpretation of the licensing laws, since there is no way anybody would even think about serving our grand-daughter an alcoholic drink. Sadly, we won't be able to find out if the Trip Advisor high scores for The Tap at No.76 are justified because it is unlikely we will try to visit there again.

Great to have a place that is quite (although the volume of chat can rise at times) and serves a great selection of real ales and ciders plus some specialist brew lagers - this keeps the rougher element out at no Carling, etc. Prices are good on their own brews (Tollgate) and smaller glasses are available on the more specialist brews (1/3, 1/2 and 2/3 pints). Offerings change frequently. No food other that nuts, crisps, Scotch eggs, etc. Water is great at £1 per bottle. Wine is also available from £4 for 175mm - the malbec is about the best red.

Some beers are sold in 1/3 of a pint, 2/3 of a pint which is unusual others are sold in pints. For the ladies who don't drink beer wine is an alternative. Bottles of prosecco are available too as well as complimentary coffee. The customers are a mix of young and old and the atmosphere is wonderful. There's a large selection of beer and cider but no spirits only wine which there is a good variety of as well. The Tap is located in an old building full of beams and character. It is small inside so I think it would struggle to accommodate a large number of customers, however when we visited on a Sunday lunchtime there were only about a dozen so we had plenty of room. The interior is completely stripped back with only a basic bar, tables and seats - quite refreshing when compared to other more fussy pubs.

Jay and I decided to visit the Chip and Pin in Melbourne and on the way to do a little shopping in nearby Ashby de la Zouch. Ashby's a typical English market town in north Leicestershire. There are no major high street stores here just small independent shops. Great if you like visiting charity shops which all have good quality items at reasonable prices. It was whilst we were shopping that we noticed The Tap at No 76. We immediately made a beeline to check it out. It's modern in style unlike others that we have visited, very much wine bar but non the less a really nice place. Not only do they have a selection of 5 real ales straight from the barrel but also craft beers, wines and free coffee tea and water. They also serve great pork pies. It's only 10 minutes off the A 42 junction 13 and well worth a visit.

We waited in anticipation of this micro pub opening, Ashby has been a Real Ale desert for 30+ years to my knowledge, so full marks to Tollgate Brewery. A thoroughly pleasant place and it will no doubt be very successful. The cask ales on offer over the last 3 weeks have been good quality as you would righfully expect from a brewery tap, the atmosphere is right many of the micr-pub boxes are well and truely ticked. However! I thought my glasses had steamed up when I saw half a dozen Keg Ales on the blackboard. Keg ales (in other words, dead beer) are a no-no in the micro pub movement so this is a surprise. However, better to offer the starved folk of Ashby some Cask Ales that they can't get anywhere else in the town rather than none at all I suppose. I wish this venture every success despite this sin. Still, a very nice touch is the free tea and coffee, the staff are pleasant and the premises have been delightfully restored. The 'feel' is typically Ashby in many ways with a good mix of customers, well-humoured (no lager and shouting you see). This is definitely worth a visit by the Real Ale lover, but I won't be the only one to have a Keggy shock in the first 5 minutes. Look forward hopefully to more Real Ales (there are plenty around these days) to fill up the keg spaces.
