My friend and I recently travelled to Ashby de la Zouch. We found the Anel Inn close to where we were staying. After a delicious lunch they let us leave our car and go walking in the local area. On our return they chatted to us about our walk and made us feel very welcome. We stayed for our evening meal - again delicious. Very friendly staff, would definitely visit again if we are in the area.

Decided to give this place a try due to reading good reviews on trip advisor. Sorry to say that the Sunday carvery was very average. The veg selection was the smallest selection I've ever seen on a carvery. Peas, carrots and green beans. All of which were in our opinion straight out of a packet. Frozen carrots have a weird texture compared to freshly prepared ones and these were definitely frozen. I suspect the roast potatoes were as well as they were dry and flavourless. The most disappointing part of the meal was the watery gravy. Note to kitchen staff : Don't leave cartons of catering gravy in eyesight of customers. We saw them on the shelves behind the carvery and also saw the chef emptying one which had been reheated into the gravy pot. Drinks are mega expensive too. £4.80 for a 125ml glass of merlot and £3.80 for a pint of coca cola! Don't like leaving poor feedback but when a pub advertises Homemade food then it should be prepared freshly on the premises. For those wanting a really tasty Sunday carvery try The Cross Keys nearby. For a similar price there is no comparison.

We have been going to the Angel for several years, until Covid, and have had some wonderful food there. It's certainly changed. We walked in to be greeted by a barman who was playing on his phone and who continued to do so all the while we were there, not very welcoming really. We went there on a Wednesday night, which we didn't know was carvery night but saw the board and was looking forward to it only to be disappointed when we saw the 2 dried up joints on the serving counter. We then decided to order from the menu which we noticed was considerably smaller than last time we went. My partner and her daughter went for the bacon/cheese burger and i had the mixed grill. The burgers were described by those eating them as tasting like the old cheap ones you got years ago while the steak on my grill was cooked well and was tender but tasteless, the pork loin was very thin and so was as expected a little chewy and the gammon was like shoe leather. All in all not a good experience and can't see us going back unless we hear things have improved

What can I say we eat there while working away and the food was top notch big portions and very prompt. The beers was great and the owner Steven is a great guy and had us in bits with his jokes. Was made to feel right at home and like we had been there before. If and when we work in the area again it will be the first and only place I will go for food drinks and a good old laugh thanks Steven.

Just moved to the area and came here for Sunday lunch with my family, and had the best Roast dinner ever, The staff were friendly and quick to attend, the food was hot and tasty and it's very well priced, cant wait to go back. There was a good selection of meats and veggies, followed by a great dessert menu. The Guy Behind the bar was super helpful and gave us a warm friendly welcome. 10/10

We recently enjoyed an excellent Sunday Lunch at The Angel. A good selection of starters, soup and a few fish dishes. Fantastic carvery, excellent choice of meat, in most places you may get a choice of 2 or 3, here you get 5 or 6. Roast potatoes, mash potatoes, stuffing, Yorkshire pudding, cauliflower cheese, carrots, cabbage and maybe another but I can't remember! Followed by treacle pudding with custard. And all very reasonably priced. Went with friends for Sunday lunch, can't wait to try again for an evening meal.

This was the second time visiting The Angel and we enjoyed it just as much as our previous visit. We only waited 5 minutes for our table and were invited to the carvery within a few more minutes. I had pork and beef which was perfect as, I'm told were all the other choices. Armed with my meat, potatoes, crackling and Yorkshire pudding I turned to the vegetables which although a little overcooked were very tasty as was the gravy. All four of us enjoyed every mouthful and would definitely recommend The Angel for a good, well priced and very tasty Sunday lunch.

Went for a Sunday lunch ...not impressed ....soggy cabbage, mushy tasteless carrots and not sire whether it was swede or parsnips ...but it was turning a brown colour by the time I got to it! Roast potatoes were frozen, mashed potatoes were lumpy and the yorky pud was sagging!!! Sorry but you have got to improve big time before you get my custom again 🤐🤐🤐

Rather cramped restaurant area and gets quite stuffy with poor ventilation. Starter of overcooked fish gougons where I struggled to find the fish A main course of pork from the carvery where the meat was gristly and had a vague metallic taste to it. Maybe it was just me because the pub was very busy with a lot of Sunday lunchers.

Held a small gathering of 16 to celebrate my partners birthday. The Staff were amazing, polite, smiling and good at what they did. The management made us welcome and did everything possible to make the evening a success. The food was hot and everyone's arrived at the same time. All home made, served up with very good portions. Meals start from as little as £5, there is a specials board or an extensive menu to suit all. Love this cosy place.

Had booked a table as we expected the that the restaurant part of the inn to be busy - it wasn't. We were shown to a table that was next to others eating be had very little room between the tables which would have made it difficult to sit down so we moved to the other end where all the tables were empty. Service was good but we had selected dishes off the 'Daily Specials board' which apart from the chips (they do really need to change the oil) were not very hot. The vegetables were a bit too much ' al Dente' for my liking. Considering there were not many people eating and hence they were not under pressure the food should have been served 'piping hot'. Can't fault the service and the welcome but the meals were disappointing especially at the price.

Wouldn't go here. Totally unwilling to help out non locals or other local businesses. Was passing through and as had never been in the area before I was blindly looking for a breakfast with zero knowledge of where to go. Came across this cafe and popped in hoping to obtain a hot sandwich. It soon became apparent this wasn't an option aften being told abruptly that they stopped serving breakfasts (breakfast times advertised on the windows or door would be nice) . However the worst part was when we politely explained we wasn't local and did they know where we could find said sandwich locally (to what I guess is the owner). He processed to throw his hands out sideways and declare he had no knowledge or ability to help us out and of course another independent local buisness. Turns out he must have known there was a second cafe some 3 or 4 doors away on the opersite side of the High Street. So thankfully Cafe 66 managed to serve me instead. I won't ever try this place again if he is unwilling to push buisness to other cafes once he has stopped serving perticular menu items, especially when I believe it was clear I was not interested in anything else he was now serving. Hopefully he will read this and make appropriate changes to his attitude so others don't have the same experience. Edit (follow up to owners reply). Thank you for confirming all points I made in my review. I am baffled to see you continue your unpleasant nature though. You are correct as stated I wanted a breakfast sandwich and no I didn't want coffee or any of the what I would class as pub food offerings you was now selling. However I fail to remember you even attempting to sell me other options and yes you didn't even suggest I try over the road which was rather unfriendly to other local businesses as I stated in my initial review. You can report my review all you like, but by thinking you are guaranteed to hide my experience due to receiving a 1 star review is no guarantee and in fact you have confirmed I did attend you cafe and thus it is far from a fake or hateful smear. Furthermore all you are doing is showing your unwilling to hear fair opinions. I have gathered from other reviews you have only just taken over this buisness in recent months and thus all I can hope is this is a mistake due to a sharp learning curve for yourself

After reading the reviews here we must have called on a nightmare day...ordered soup, it arrived lukewarm and spilling over dish. Asked for it to be reheated, came back slightly warmer but with very greasy croutons, completely inedible. First time I've ever felt the need to up sticks and leave a cafe without paying.

Nice place with plenty of parking and friendly staff. Just avoid at the school run time as the car park gets rammed with parents collecting the kids so access is limited
