The cafe had a nice atmosphere and pleasant staff. We had the afternoon tea included with an experience. It was a decent amount of food, but a bit of an odd assortment. The sweet items were lovely, with generous jam and cream for the scones. But the savoury options were pretty poor and a bit tasteless (vegetable spring roll, thin sandwiches of processed meat and loads of margarine, a cold cheese pastry).

Me and my mom went to the cafe and had afternoon tea. It was one of the best afternoon teas I have had, you get a lot of choice on the wooden platter. You can also help yourself to tea, coffee, squash and water. The afternoon tea tastes home made and you can tell a lot of care has gone into making it. I would recommend this afternoon tea. I would say it is also value for money. The staff at the cafe are all very welcoming and friendly.

I was a livery at the alpaca farm for nearly 3 years. In the last year I was there the livery price went up 3 times but the service and state of the livery yard went down. Stables and paddocks never maintained. Any requests made was met with rude nasty responses. I've had horses for 30 years on diy and have never had to put fence posts up or mend electric fence. I also found myself dealing with the club horses because of poor maintenance.

We found the afternoon tea very disappointing. The sandwiches were quite squashed, there where no sausage rolls, quiche, pork pie, just what looked like the leftovers of a party. We weren't told about tea being self service, so sat waiting for it. Had to get own cutlery and no serviettes. It was a birthday gift so it was difficult to know what to say to the person who gave it.

MORE AT Google

I'll start with the positive, the farm was a working farm in good working farm condition, the ladies at reception were friendly and the girl leading the experience group was knowledgeable and friendly. The not so good.... Booking this was a nightmare, Our experience was cancelled 2 hours before it was due to begin and no refund or discount for our booking (we were offered discount on a return second booking....but I'm not likely to spend more money with charnwood at this point) I understand the alpacas need to be kept safe and some weather may not be suitable, however having gotten my children excited about the experience, and taken time off work to do this, I feel we should have been compensated for the disruption which wasn't our fault. The receptionist never answers the phone if you need to call. During the walk the alpacas choose their own pace which we weren't aware of prior to being on the walk, which means you don't get to walk with your group. This meant my daughter didn't really enjoy her experience as she was on her own a lot. For this reason I don't think 10 years olds should be made to have their own alpaca. The whole ratio of adults to children is off. I did ask (before we arrived) if my daughter could walk with me and share my alpaca as an under 10 with two guide ropes, but was told this wasn't possible as then I'd need another adult for the ratios..(this wasn't possible for me)which makes no sense as this would have been more sensible than having her 12 foot behind me on her own! The experience was so over priced, and their should be a family ticket option. I didn't feel we got £100 worth of activity. This experience is sold as cute lovely animals who like to bond with people, when actually they are just big cute unfriendly sheep, who really don't like people at all. Id recommend for adults only, as it's not worth the cost of taking a family and children will be disappointed that the alpacas aren't that keen on being patted.

I myself had alpaca called karma it’s quite ironic how this happend He decided to not be so calm spat at one of the other alpacas. When I said that wasn’t very nice. He looked at me and spat at me. 😂🤮 We fell out at this point as alpacas pick up your tention. I think he knew he had annoyed me, so I had swapped for a different he was very calm and like to walk at the back. Staff were friendly and welcoming. A safety talk and explanation of what will happen is done to the group before you head out on the walk. Including a demo alpaca, with instructions on how to walk with them. Alpacas are very tame and friendly, like to be stroked. Bags of feed available at £1 each ( which the alpacas loved)! Wear sensible footwear as very muddy parts along the walk - dependent on weather, I’m sure in the summer it is lovely grass and not sludge. We would definitely recommend this experience to anyone.

What an experience! Firstly wasn't well signposted when we got into the carpark of where to go but got there. On the website it tells you there will be a safety brief and stresses you need to get there 30 mins in advance of your time but we weren't called to get our alpaca until bang on 10:30- which was fine as there were horses and donkeys to look at. Met up with our alpaca- was just me and an 8 year old. We had 2 ropes which was great as she really felt like she was walking the alpaca so that was good. Ground uneven and sometimes muddy but what's expected There was an electric part of the fence which wasn't well signposted warning you and my daughter got a little shock but she was fine. Did mention to staff. Our tour lady Taytum was so lovely! Really knowledgeable and welcomed questions on the alpacas. Can't wait to come back in the summer. Exceeded our expectations as Bronze made my first time meeting with an Alpaca a treasure. Hubby had Light As A Feather. All the Alpacas are such docile and beautiful beings, and we would not hesitate to return. The walk with the Alpacas takes over 1 hour and is at a leisurely pace with small up hill slopes, followed by down hill, and 2 stop-overs for pictures. There were no signs about buying food for the Alpacas when we checked into the office, and the lady on the desk didn't mention it either, so when half way into the walk we were told we can feed the Alpacas with food we've bought from the shop, we were somewhat disappointed. Our hungry Alpacas were therefore chomping on grass along the walk ways. This is also an equestrian centre so plenty of horses of all sorts (Shetland, Shire, etc) and cute donkeys to admire. Our guide was excellent and she made the walk informative and fun. Afternoon Tea after walking the Alpacas was also lovely albeit the instant coffee was not very nice. The selection on the platter was brilliant, tasty, fresh and the waitresses were very helpful. Squash, tea and instant coffee are bottomless. TIP: Wear hiking boots or other footwear as you will be walking through a working farm with plenty of mud, high grass and poo. TIP: Buy food for your Alpaca when you check in. TIP: The road into the venue is full of potholes and water, so skip the sports car and take an SUV or higher car instead. TIP: If you appreciate coffee buy the Barista at the pub side before you take your table.

Had a great time with the alpacas. Liv was amazing and tought us so much about these amazing creatures. The walk was short and easy so suitable for any age and fitness. We had plenty of time with the alpacas so make sure you buy food. £1 per bag. Now I bought this experience for my sister's birthday with a woucher voucher and this came with afternoon tea. Judging by other reviews I think we went when the normal chef /cook was off as it was just awful. Everything was stale and the sandwiches were nearly empty. Instant coffee was served. Yuk!!! I had to order a proper coffee from the bar at extra cost. I'm used to these teas being indulgent and fancy but this was just not the case and had to leave most of it. I'd would swere this and order off menu instead if you're wanting indulgence. But like I said, we may have just been unlucky. I'm not usually a fussy person but I felt disappointed. However I must stress... the alpaca walk was amazing and so much fun.

What a fab afternoon taking these cuties for a walk in the sunshine! Will was very informative and both myself and my husband learnt so much about alpacas. Lots of smiles all round! We will definitely recommend this to friends and family !🥰

Having checked opening times via website and Facebook I took my mum for lunch to find the cafe is no longer open on Fridays. The whole place was scruffy and unkempt, yard unswept and no staff to speak to.

Had an amazing time horse riding and feeding some alpacas, drove down from Liverpool, definitely worth the trip ! The guide we had for the horse riding was great if I remember correctly her name was Megan but I'd come back just for the service we received, the shop lady was also lovely, the friendly service really made the whole experience :) highly recommend visiting !

Came to do the Alpaca walk with my partner and it was one of the best things I’ve done. All the staff were super friendly, the chap who was our guide on the walk was amazing, told us so many facts about alpacas! The afternoon tea was very delicious too and a very selection of sweet and savory was given I enjoyed it so much I rebooked tickets to go again with my mother and sister 😁

Whilst I didn't personally do a "walk", my partner and my sister did.....and they loved it!! They walked the alpacas and are already saying they'd love to do it again!! The walk lasts 90 minutes in total. Part way around there's an opportunity to stop and feed the one you're walking....so try and remember to buy some feed when you arrive at the check in desk. A bag of feed is £1, and just adds to the experience.

Wonderful family friendly experience! Alpacas were docile and friendly with everyone, just don't show them you have treats or they'll swarm you. Highly recommend ages 3-4+, the walk is about 90 minutes and you'll need two hands on your alpacas lead at all times. So if your child decides they're done halfway through, like mine did, then you'll have hand the alpaca off to someone else. Staff were super helpful the entire time and would stop the group if anyone got behind. We booked with the afternoon tea afterwards. Food was absolutely wonderful.

Came today to do the Alpaca Walk and afternoon tea for my sons 12th birthday, what an amazing experience we all thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff are really informative and Really friendly, especially the young guy who did the walk sorry didn't get your name. You get a briefing before you start the walk, and you get to see the amazing Alpaca smile before you start. All the alpacas have lots of character, you get to feed them and bond with them. It was such a lovely experience!😁 And to top it off a nice spot of afternoon tea at the chilli Bean, Thank you so much for an amazing family experience. 🥰

What a wonderful afternoon we have had. Olivia our guide was absolutely fantastic, and what a lovely experience walking with the alpacas. I have to say, I’m sure mine kissed me at the end as an apology for making me run most of the way around. Thank you a great time

Hubby brought as a surprise, really enjoyed walking the alpacas and afternoon tea experience, really lovely place, Staff very friendly, my only one gripe is they shut the shop while people were still there, I wanted to purchase something and couldn't... The shop to me is the last place that should shut, but will still be booking to go back in the summer 😊😊

We call in for coffee and breakfast most weeks. Haven't tried lunch yet but it's such a welcoming place I'm sure we will. We always visit the animals first, then have a drink. The staff are delightful, so welcoming. It's a great place.

Lovely friendly animals. Good length of walk and the experience with the alpacas was enjoyable. You may not be able to walk near your family/friends as the alpacas choose where they want to walk in the herd. The alpacas must be well looked after as they are very friendly. Will did our tour, he was nice and gave some interesting facts and took pictures for people. You have to buy your own alpaca feed as this is not included in the 90min walk experience. The let down was the whole experience was the logistics/staff. We were told to arrive at least 30mins prior to our walk, to check in and attend the safety briefing. We arrived at 13:20 for our 14:00 walk. Our safety briefing did not commence until 14:05, the experience ended at 15:25 (80mins total). Normally, I would not be so pedantic, but, we had attended the previous week for a 13:30 walk. On that occasion, we arrived at 13:30. I had attempted to call ahead during our journey as traffic had meant that our hour long journey increased by an extra 20 mins but was not able to get through. On arrival which was 13:30, we could not find anyone, or any clear signage we walked through and saw a group, so we tagged on to the safety briefing at 13:32. We were then approached by Will, who advised us that as we were late we could not join the group and we would not get to have our alpaca experience. He used the word "unfortunately" in every sentence, which wasn't helpful, but, unfortunately became patronising and annoying. We asked if there was any chance we could have the first minute of the briefing recapping, or sign a waiver, or join a later your if there was space. He got a colleague, Frankie, to come and talk to us. We had about 15-20mins of discussion about the fact there insurance would be invalid because we missed the start of the safety briefing and that they have a zero tolerance on lateness and won't refund or rearrange, by then, the group left with the alpacas. I explained we had been emailed to rearrange our original time of 14:00 to 13:30 as they chose to cancel that tour, so we had arrived for 13:30. Again, we were just told if you don't check in between 15-30mins before your experience time, you are late and can't do the experience. Eventually, Frankie agreed to rearrange us to the following week. Which was inconvenient but we accepted it as a reasonable resolution, and to be fair, by this point if would have been difficult to enjoy staying at Charnwood Forest Alpacas due to how unreasonable and unhelpful the staff were. So, we were turned away and initially offered to reimbursement or rescheduling because we joined a safety briefing 2mins late, only to then attend the next week and the briefing started 5mins late! I even went back to the check in point just before 14:00 because I couldn't understand why ours hadn't begun. We had even mistakenly joined the 13:30 briefing as that was late too. We weren't able to join that because it wasn't our slot, even though there were spaces available. Then, during our tour, an extra person was allowed to join the group, just by chance, because someone else had cancelled. I think that the staff seriously need to get there policies lined up. Very hostile when we were 2mins late on the previous week, and then doing the complete opposite to everything they had told us and running late for us! Also, they cut the walk short by 10mins. Lovely alpacas and other animals too, but I would not go to this farm again and I would not recommend it either. I would go to J&J alpacas or somewhere else. This wasn't worth the drama.

Wouldn't go here. Totally unwilling to help out non locals or other local businesses. Was passing through and as had never been in the area before I was blindly looking for a breakfast with zero knowledge of where to go. Came across this cafe and popped in hoping to obtain a hot sandwich. It soon became apparent this wasn't an option aften being told abruptly that they stopped serving breakfasts (breakfast times advertised on the windows or door would be nice) . However the worst part was when we politely explained we wasn't local and did they know where we could find said sandwich locally (to what I guess is the owner). He processed to throw his hands out sideways and declare he had no knowledge or ability to help us out and of course another independent local buisness. Turns out he must have known there was a second cafe some 3 or 4 doors away on the opersite side of the High Street. So thankfully Cafe 66 managed to serve me instead. I won't ever try this place again if he is unwilling to push buisness to other cafes once he has stopped serving perticular menu items, especially when I believe it was clear I was not interested in anything else he was now serving. Hopefully he will read this and make appropriate changes to his attitude so others don't have the same experience. Edit (follow up to owners reply). Thank you for confirming all points I made in my review. I am baffled to see you continue your unpleasant nature though. You are correct as stated I wanted a breakfast sandwich and no I didn't want coffee or any of the what I would class as pub food offerings you was now selling. However I fail to remember you even attempting to sell me other options and yes you didn't even suggest I try over the road which was rather unfriendly to other local businesses as I stated in my initial review. You can report my review all you like, but by thinking you are guaranteed to hide my experience due to receiving a 1 star review is no guarantee and in fact you have confirmed I did attend you cafe and thus it is far from a fake or hateful smear. Furthermore all you are doing is showing your unwilling to hear fair opinions. I have gathered from other reviews you have only just taken over this buisness in recent months and thus all I can hope is this is a mistake due to a sharp learning curve for yourself
