The Tankerville Arms Eglingham in Northumberland

We arranged to have a meal after a long hike so we were super hungry! This menu did not disappoint!!! The food was spot on. Cooked perfectly, tasted delicious and the portions were generous. The staff were knowledgeable and friendly and the pub was nice and warm. Would absolutely return. What was most impressive is that they catered for gluten free with a separate, but equally as impressive menu.

A truly wonderful place from which to explore the delights of Northumberland. George, Mary, and the team could not be more welcoming or helpful. The accommodation was beautiful with lots of nice touches befitting of a high calibre place to stay. Plenty of fresh, clean linen, tasteful decor, and lots of accompaniments made our suite a pleasure to stay in. Breakfast was great, dinner was delicious, and the bar frequented by locals, giving it an atmosphere and vibe. All meals used high-quality local ingredients and were presented really nicely. We could not give this establishment high enough praise, you will not be disappointed. Highly recommended 👌

Called in on the off-chance for late-midday and read the menu. Looks superb with several fish dishes as well as lamb shank, Angus beef burger and lots more. Starters pheasant and cognac pate, Dumfries smoked salmon crumpet calamari etc.

Really lovely Sunday lunch. A lady called Ellen waited on and she was so lovely, very professional, friendly and attentive. Food was first class. Lovely setting, and atmosphere Great was to spend a winters Sunday afternoon. Only thing for improvement is the website. No Sunday lunch menu on it. The layout of the online menu with a watermark behind the text makes it very hard to read.

Just returned from Tankerville Arms Eglingham today after a two night break for my husbands birthday and what a place, fantastic, we arrived a little later than we expected due to the wet weather, but we were greeted with a lovely warm welcome from the lady behind the bar who showed us to our room, the suite we were in was fantastic, very clean and spacious and the bed was very large and very comfortable, we had the option to have dinner in the restaurant or the bar ( we chose bar ) as we were seated next to the fire and again fantastic service and fantastic food and we also received a free bottle of red wine with our meal which was very good too, the following morning we headed down for breakfast and again we were made to feel very welcome by the staff and the owners ( breakfast was amazing ) beautifully presented and plenty on the plate and also plenty of coffee and tea. We headed out for the day and on return we ate in the restaurant for evening meal and again the food and service were fantastic and nothing was too much trouble, the lady brought a cake and candle out for my husband for his birthday which was a lovely surprise (thank you so much) although we were both full and could not eat anything else the lady offered to put the cake in a box to take with us again thank you so much. We enjoyed the rest of our evening in the bar, the following morning we headed down for breakfast and again beautiful food and great service from all the wonderful staff we have met on our short stay, which went by too quickly, but we will return, this place is a little gem with such attentive staff and the quality of the food and service is amazing, thank you all so much for a wonderful break and we hope you all have a happy Christmas and a very happy new year and will hopefully see you very soon. xxx

. . . just what we wanted, a quiet Sunday lunch in warm, welcoming surroundings. Lovely staff, delicious beef and chicken supreme with nothing being too much trouble. We enjoyed a bottle of Malbec with our meals and feel that we received good value for money . . . been before and will do so again!

We stayed here for 3 nights, DBB. A very welcoming place, cosy warm bedroom. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. the breakfasts were well cooked and nicely presented. The dinner menu was adequate and the specials board was change daily. You had the choice of eating in the cosy bar or the restaurant. Sadly it was too early in the season for the fantastic log fire to be lit. We must return in the colder weather!

A relatively standard pub menu. Nice restaurant ambience. The peasant pate starter was good, as was the sea bass. The lamb shank was well cooked and presented but could have done with some herbs, seasoning, and cooking in red wine to produce a richer flavour. But it is a very enjoyable place to eat.

We booked an overnight stay and checked that we would have a table in the restaurant for the evening. They said they always reserve a table just in case as the Eglingham is pretty much in the middle of nowhere. The room was spotless and had everything you would expect. The only downside was that the room did not have an en-suite but instead a private bathroom across the landing. It wasn’t a problem for us, but if it would be for you then ensure you book an en-suite room. We had a pre-dinner drink in the bar and enjoyed seeing the locals meeting and chatting with their dogs, it’s a real social place in the village. We were taken to our table and skipped the starter as we fancied a pud instead. We both had the lamb shank which was exceptional, followed by the cheesecake, again clearly homemade and delicious. Both food and drinks are reasonably priced. Breakfast was typical full English, but Craster kippers were on offer. We started with fruit and yogurt, which was really fresh and then muesli. All in all we really enjoyed the weekend. The one thing that really stood out for us was the service and attention to detail from one particular member of staff who looked after us throughout our stay, we were made to feel like a valued customer and not just another guest. We’ll done Tankerville Arm.

Lovely pub, country casual with a bit of modern decor too. A little bit in the sticks but don’t let that put you off. I had sea bass with pink champagne sauce, crayfish and dauphinois potatoes. Superb, crispy skin added a nice bit of caramelisation. Perfectly cooked fish and the warmth of the potatoes. My wife had chicken supreme which was equally nice. Rich chocolate torte with honey and whiskey ice cream which was just fabulous. Nice local amber ale too and good coffee. Very reasonably priced. I got the impression from talking to others that the good offer round here is very good. I would definitely come again if I was in the area again, memorable.

Just one of the best country pubs I've ever visited. Real fire. Great local ales. Warm and friendly staff. Ended up going twice in the same week to enjoy the ham hock again. The sea bass was just perfectly cooked with an incredible sauce - we were told there'd be a riot if it was ever taken off the menu, and you can see why. Ordered the chicken with stilton sauce and mash on the second night which was also pretty special. Both nights I had the chocolate torte with local ice cream - wow! Just wow! Diet starts tomorrow.

Convenient stopping point while touring sensational local attractions, including Cragside House, Bamburgh Castle, Alnwick Castle, Etc. Lovely traditional decor (antique maps prints, photos) that gets harder to find these days. Proprietor is a gent. Very comfortable. Excellent breakfast.

My husband and I visited today for a Sunday roast after reading the excellent reviews. We are staying for a few days near Chatton. The Sunday roast was excellent both the pork and the beef. Good sized portions and beautifully cooked. And good value for money. We also had the trifle and sticky toffee pudding. My only small criticism with the trifle is I prefer set custard rather than runny custard but that is my personnal choice. The staff were friendly, efficient and dealt with requests promptly.

Our first visit to this pub. Encouraged to visit by the Trip advisor reviews, it did not disappoint. Worth going off the beaten track. A characterful, authentic pub, with friendly polite and efficient staff. We had a very high quality Sunday lunch in very comfortable surroundings and very efficient service. The Sunday menu is fixed at 2 or 3 courses and is good value. We will certainly visit again

We had not been here for sometime but after reading recent reviews decided to give it another try and we were really glad that we did. The restaurant was very busy when we arrived so we were glad that we had booked. Service was friendly and efficient and the place was very comfortable and overall nicely appointed. Lots of optins on the menu and all of the food was lovley when it arrived with good presentation and generous portions. We tried half a dozen different dishes at each cource and all were relly good. We will certainly be back and can recommend.

Stayed at this beautiful country pub for 2 nights. We stayed in the French room which was quite large and very comfortable with views of the rear garden. We had a delicious evening meal in the restaurant on the day we arrived, and breakfast each morning which was awesome. Very large portions at both breakfast and evening meals and both delicious. Would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The pub gets very busy in the evenings, but you hear very little when up in the rooms. Really enjoyed our stay.

Revisited this fab hostelry which offers fantastic food with lovely staff and mine hosts George and Mary can't do enough for you. Rooms are beautifully decorated and we love the suite which is slightly bigger and covers all our needs. On top of this the establishment is also dog friendly.... Perfect. Stayed 7 nights in this lovely country pub and were impressed by the High standards and the Quality of the food at Breakfast and at dinner. The location is great for touring the area and very quiet in the countryside. We found ourselves talking to the local farmers in the pub and couldn't have had a more authentic experience on our first visit to the county of Northumberland. I think we quite fell in love with it all.

Obviously well loved by locals. Set in attractive village, friendly staff and locals.DOG FRIENDLY, for meals in the bar. Amazingly good food, seems consistently high quality. Attractive frontage too. Try the Sea Bass with champagne sauce, wonderful.
