Looking for somewhere for 5 adults and 5 big dogs after a beach walk we popped our noses in the door and asked if we could go in. We received a very warm welcome and shown to an area where we could spread out. We all had a hot drink and either a sandwich, scone or cake. The sandwiches were made with fresh ingredients and served with crisps, salad and homemade coleslaw, the scones were fresh and served warm and the carrot cake was delicious. The member of staff couldn’t have been welcoming and friendly. We went in by chance but will make a point of returning.

I had the pleasure of staying here following a Wedding at the near-by Sun Inn Warkworth. Staff were super friendly and helpful. My room was clean and all the little finishing thoughtful touches, dressing gown, tea and coffee making facilities. The communal shower/toilet wss a short distance along the corridor also clean and pleasant . My morning wss met with a friendly staff member who was super sorting my breakfast from quite an extensive menu , pancakes cooked fresh delicious, complimentary cereals and tea and toast went down a treat . Would definitely recommend and stay here again.

Disappointing second visit. Not impressed last time but thought to give a second chance. A fairly busy Friday evening. Stood at the bar directly opposite the barman and waited patiently. Seemed to actively serving those he knew by name while continued to wait patiently. What grinds my gears is that he was literally 3 feet opposite me but never acknowledged I was there. Not a "good evening" or "sorry be with you in a moment", nothing. After waiting at the bar 10 or 15 minutes we left and went elsewhere. Maybe the chap was new, maybe understaffed, who knows!

Popped in here for a light bite after a fabulous walk along the coast path near Warkworth. It's a very clean nice little Inn with a good selection of beers and lagers. Paul the barman was most helpful and super friendly. We decided to share a baguette between us as they were enormous, we had the ham and cheese combination and it was excellent - really proper ham and fab very tasty cheese. The price was excellent, we'd certainly return next time we're in Warkworth.

After a pleasant meal, served by very friendly staff, we enjoyed a thoroughly entertaining ‘buskers’ open mic night. There was a great range of music and styles which contributed to the pub’s welcoming atmosphere. The bar manager was excellent organising drinks, tables and the other staff. If you fancy catching the open mic it runs every second Wednesday of the month and there is apparently live music most weekends.

Been here many times for Sunday carvery, it’s great! Never had any problems till today . Had reservations for 5 called in by my good wife asking to be close to carvery because I am a bit disabled at the moment. Lady said fine as usual. On arrival the bar was busy, 1 person serving, we were 4th in queue. My wife said table for 5 to the barmaid we have reservations near the carvery as hubby is disabled, she immediately got aggressive & said no tables near carvery for over 4 people , she had taken the call & my wife was mistaken! This was in front or a crowd of people. Not professional at all I had witnessed my wife’s call & she definitely said 5 diners . In the end the barmaid relented & let us go upstairs next to the carvery, it was deserted, 2 people in? We had our carvery, it was lovely. Then a table of 10 came in. Thought it was no more than 4?. The end point is this barmaid (gingerish hair) needs to go on THE course. Customers are precious! Customer service imperative. End of post, will be back to the Hermatige soon. Thanks for reading, Colin x

Decided on the Hermitage Inn for Sunday lunch as it is local to us. Upon arrival given a very warm and genuine welcome by the Land Lady and staff and despite being very busy we were allocated a table straight away. I ordered a roast beef dinner and the wife a roast beef and gammon dinner. When they arrived we were both taken aback by the sheer size of them - they were huge, mine consisting of very generous slices of thickly carved roast beef accompanied by several (obviously home cooked) roast potatoes, a large home made yorkshire pudding, mashed potatoes, mashed swede, cabbage, peas, carrots and a generous amount of rich gravy served in a gravy boat. Everything was served piping hot and cooked to perfection and was absolutely delicious however try as we might we were both unable to empty our plates as the portions were just so generous. To summarise, if you want a great home cooked quality Sunday lunch served by welcoming and attentive staff, in pleasant surroundings and at a price that represents great value for money then the Hermitage Inn should be your first choice in Warkworth.

We visited 2 weeks ago & had a lovely Sunday carvery, some we were keen to go back ago. We sat upstairs, so we could play pool & watch the match & play pool My daughter opted for 2 starters, her garlic mushrooms, wasn’t what she expected, basically they looked like out of the £1 range from Iceland, she had more potato skins than me, I only had half a dozen. My partners prawn bruschetta was toasted half baguette, with prawns on, nothing like a bruschetta I ordered the sweet chilli chicken panini, I still haven’t tasted the chilli & im not sure if it was chicken in it, my partner had liver & onions,he said it tasted more like kidney but the gravy was lovely. Would go back for the carvery & that’s it Staff are friendly & always a good atmosphere

Two pubs serving food, one empty, one busy. Sadly this is the empty pub as we found out later in the week. The pie was swimming in gravy with 6/7 bits of steak. The potatoes were cold. My company is an experienced chef and they felt whoever was cooking wasn’t interested in what they were sending out. Poor presentation and probably upset they had to put their mobile down to cook for the 2 customers who were unfortunate enough to choose there to eat. The gammon was as dry as the atmosphere.

Rude arrogant Landlord: Saw the Hermitage Inn on maps and was passing, thought I would try. There was one person stood at the bar, still it took the Landlord some 30 seconds to acknowledge our presence, I enquired about food and ordered drinks, not the friendliest of a welcome. By the time I was to order food, a couple more punters had arrived, so I waited my turn; when my turn came the Landlord was facing away from me and uttered something which I didn't hear. I said 'sorry' to which the extremely abrupt reply was 'what will you have for food?', as I uttered the word 'Prawn', the Landlord said 'oh I serve these first' (locals), then had a chat about local cricket. I finished my drink and went across the road to the Masons!!

Holidaying in the area called in for lunch yesterday as had seen on line that my husband's favourite, vegetarian bangers and mash was on the menu. Underwhelmed by the welcome. I was not lying when I said there was only one menu on our board instead of 2 and it was not my fault that I was right. But the main issue was when the"bangers and mash" came there was no mash. When asked about the absence, the waitress suggested it was because mash may contain traces of butter? When I suggested to the bar person that bangers and mash should be removed under Trades Description if it didn't include mash I was told that he had once been served a roast dinner with no mash but sweet potato instead? Perhaps I should have been grateful that my jacket potato meal included a potato!! Although it was pretty tasteless. Today by contrast we went to The Masons Arms opposite. Warm welcome, delicious meal and we got all the food we ordered and paid for.

Only one bedside small shelf, and small lamp, no chairs, just a small wardrobe and draw unit. The tea making tray was ok. The bed felt like an old spring mattress, linen was ok. The shower room, and a non functioning openwindow, with a plant growing thro!..it was cold. We struggled to get warm water to run in the hand basin, the shower worked ok, but the the grouting was dark black around the base tray... A cheery welcome from Katie the bar person, our dog was also made welcome. Spik and span, good beer and cider selection and lovely staff. So glad we decided to give it another go. The Hermitage Inn is a traditional coaching inn. Upon entering from the main street the main bar is split into two distinct areas. to the right is a sociable bar area often frequented by some of the locals (a good sign) where lively banter is often the order of the day and where anyone and everyone is made welcome (they are a friendly lot in there), and to the left of the entrance door is a quieter area where those who come to dine or have a tea or coffee sometimes prefer. Beyond the bar and up a short flight of stairs is an intimate overflow restaurant area for when times are busy and beyond that a sizeable restarant/function area. - this place is like the Tardis! The food oferings are typical pub grub, not a vast menu but big enough to please most tastes and the food is very good, prepared and cooked fresh by a very capable and eager young chef. There is also a very popular carvery offered on Sunday lunch times (book to avoid disappointment as it is often extremely busy). Meal prices are somewhat less expensive than those offered by the immediate competition. As for drinks there are all the usual pub offerings and a number of real ales all perfectly kept and served, again at prices less than local competitors. Service from all of the (mostly mature) staff is always friendly and polite. Give the Hermitage a visit - its the best and most welcoming pub in Warkworth by far.

Visited Sunday lunchtime. We went in 'on spec', the gent behind the bar saw we were perusing the menus and nipped upstairs, returning soon after and said we could have a table upstairs if we were finished by 1.30pm. Good practise! We were sat in a room with nicely set out tables and a very friendly welcome from the staff. We wanted the carvery which was looking very appetising. You have a choice of large, medium or small, a great idea, I hate leaving food because I am too full to finish. We waited a very short time before we were guided to the wonderful carvery. The meats (beef, ham and turkey) were all looking moist and succulent. Between us we had all three meats and tasted as good as they looked. The vegetables and roasts were nicely cooked and delicious. we chose 'medium' but still had a plateful of meat. Lovely homemade gravy to accompany. No frozen boil in the bag food here!! Throughout the meal the staff were constantly attentive and engaging with the customers, it appears there a lot of regulars here, no surprise. The value for money was amazing. We will visit again.

First visit here but will be back and would recommend to others. Called in without booking but told no problem and shown upstairs to pleasant room. It was a Sunday so offered carvery or small basic menu. My partner and I opted for carvery, medium for me and large for him - actually the small plate would have been ample for me. I had the gammon and pork with Yorkshire, roast potatoes, mash and five other veg, stuffing balls l, crackling and a lovely jug of gravy each put on out table. My partner had the beef(2 slices) and pork but could have had 1 slice of all 3. All meats just melted in the mouth and veg was nicely cooked. Heard that it has recently had new owner and she is certainly going the right way to having a great business. Good luck, keep it up.

What a welcoming pub with incrediblly good food. We arrived on a rainy lunch time ready for a warm and some good food. We definitely got both of those, we also got a very friendly service, immediate attention, 15 min cooking time for three delicious and really well presented food, (my youngest Son who was with us is a chef). We were all very impressed, made to feel very welcome and the price was very reasonable and the portion sizes incredible. They also serve the biggest pots of tea I have ever seen which kept my wife and myself going throughout the meal. I am glad the Masons was full or we wouldn't have experienced this hidden gem ( it is literally opposite the Masons) that we happily discovered by accident. We came here because Masons was full, and were pleased to find several tables available. The beer was good and the barmaid was very friendly and helpful, however she was on her own and struggling to keep up with orders, this wasn't helped by the fact there were no full size wine bottles and she had to go to the cellar for the one type of red they had in stock. The meals were ok as regards quality but the steak had cooled off while waiting. The meals are very reasonably priced and would be ok if you were just having beer or single-serving wine with it, but the menu offered is almost identical to Masons so you wouldn't expect the Hermitage to be so quiet when their competitor was absolutely rammed. We were here as tourists, and wouldn't visit this pub again.

This bar has recently changed managers and chef so it is still finding its feet the brewery who owns it are imposing a lot of unnecessary and strange changes. We have been here for the Sunday Carvery twice recently and one evening meal and have not been disappointed. They have three sizes of meals, Small (£6.95), Medium (£10.95) and Large (£12.95) and is probably the cheapest in the area. 3 choices of meat and the veg is not overcooked mush. The steak pie in the evening was very tasty and the meat was very tender. I agree that the service could do with improving a little but the staff are friendly and attentive if a little bit rough around the edges. Hopefully things will smooth out soon. A good offering of well kept beers with 4 real ales on tap is also a plus but again the brewery is interfering so the range may change. Ignore the negative reviews and give this place a try.

Lovely old fashioned pub, superb location. We only popped in for half an hour so can't really comment on the food or service but we will be back!

Looking for somewhere for lunch. Popped in the Hermitage. The food was excellent. Good choice and well cooked. Reasonable prices and friendly staff. Dog friendly too. Would definitely return

Amazing place! We had part of our wedding reception there. The staff was amazing and even left a bottle of champagne for us in our room. They were exceptionally accommodating and helped make our special day memorable. The rooms were great, and some of our guests also stayed there. I would definitely recommend it.
