Came here on 27th April for a family lunch. Before entering my little one fell over hurting her knees, kirsty helped with first aid and made my little one feel better ❤️ Food was lovely and great prices too. Thank you so much.

I visited on Wednesday 24th April. When I entered, no one was around, I didnt know what to do, I did not know what the process was. So I found myself a seat, waiters were walking passed me not asking if I was okay. I had to go up to them to ask what do I have to do. But after this, the waiter made sure I was looked after. The food was amazing, very high quality and the price was very reasonable, I had the carvery and the meat was very tasty. I then had a chocolate fudge cake for dessert and once again, it was really tasty. Overall, a very nice positive experience.

While staying in Whitley Bay we fancied a carvery and came across the Astley Arms at Seaton Sluice (5 mins up the road). On arrival we received a very warm welcome from the lady behind the bar and were seated at a large table in the front bar along with our 2 dogs. We purchased some drinks from the bar and at the same time paid for some tickets for the carvery. We were advised that they had run out of gammon (7pm) and beef and that only turkey was left, but this didnt bother us. We then went up for our food and were given generous slices of turkey carved off the bone along with 2 large yorkshire puddings. There was a great selection of vegetables including peas, 2 types of carrots, green beans, cauliflower cheese, mash, cheesy and tomato mash, onions in gravy, stuffing and roast potato. None of the vegetables were 'sloppy' in my opinion. There were also 2 pots of gravy on the side along with apple, horseradish, cranberry and one other sauce. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the service we received was excellent. Better still we got a 25% discount off our food as my daughter had signed up to the Stonehouse App prior to our visit which I think brought the food bill total to around £25 for 4 people. Thank you to the Astley Arms for such a warm welcome and great food at an amazing price. Sorry no photos we were so hungry we ate everything!

Went for lunch here as my partner fancied the carvery. I myself had seen a photo of this delicious looking burger from the reviews so decided to get one. The burger I got was not the same as the one I had seen. 2 skinny tasteless patties that looked like they'd been stolen out of a rustler burger undercooked bacon with a cheese slice on top and undercooked chips. Took one bite and told the waitress to take it away. The service was good though the refund was sorted straight away as I had declined a replacement meal

Went for an unlimited breakfast bought X2 asked about the breakfast pizza and was told it was being made asked again to be told they had to wait for delivery for ingredients and that she will ask but it should be ready.. we sat waiting over an hour to again be told it won't be long! We waiting over 2 hours awaiting thos breakfast pizza and to have nothing. There wasn't much choice and the hash browns had been over cooked to a heard crumble. Under cooked soggy bacon. Just an overall unpleased and over priced at 19.00 when they ran out off coffee and everyone had to wait or attempt to find staff to get one from the bar.

We came here for breakfast a few weeks ago. I absolutely love the waffles and normally love an astley arms breakfast. However we arrived well before the end of breakfast and us and others were waiting for food for ages. When we got to the counter there was only fried bread, a couple of eggs, some overdone bacon, and tomatoes. We had to ask for sausages, eggs, beans, and waffles. The chef brought things out slowly. Then 30 mins later came out and said the steamer wasn't working so no beans... my mam suggested microwaving them. So then we got beans. Don't understand why the chefs don't pop out every so often to check levels of what's left, and put food in when they're getting low. Such a shame as its on our doorstep.

A long drive from Wallsend for a carvery to find that they only had a small slither of gammon left. Bearing in mind that The Astley Arms built their business on carvery meals it makes me feel sad to think that the current manager doesn't place the correct value on the carvery being functional. It felt a bit like you might feel if you visited pizza hut and they had little or no pizzas on that day.... Or McDonald's and they had no burgers.... I mean, c'mon... what's going on! Does a potential customer need to call ahead to ask if the carvery is fully operational? That is.... Do they have meat? The pub/restaurant looks run down and desperately in need of a refresh..... With few customers and unenthusiastic staff. C'mon Astley..... Catch up!

The worst most disgusting service we ever experienced and had, food less than average and cooked with the same skills….none!!!!! Service and customer care non existent …..sent 75 of food back and one one, no one of the staff had the decency or the courage to come and apology or have the face to stand there and be accountable…..they all talked amongst each others probably making fun of us…. Dissatisfaction is a word for The Astley Arms. The best part of our visit was the service, that was excellent by the female at the bar and a lad doing the delivery of meals. The meals were abysmal the starter was battered mushrooms which were grease balls. These were not whole they were quarter cut and battered. We opted for the carvery, the meat was excellent and well cut and presented. From there it went further downhill, vegetables were cold and looked from a packet. The premises need a good revamp, wallpaper coming off walls, water stains on the ceilings. The furnishings some seats had cracked coverings. If you use the car park opposite, the sign says free for patrons of the establishment. But inside there are monitor's where you have to enter your registration otherwise a fine will be issued.

Have read some very mixed reviews about this place so wanted to try for ourselves. Pub was quite quiet when we arrived, so we easily found a seat and had a look at the menu. Although it was very clean it was a bit shabby in places however looks as if it’s been getting a bit of a face lift. There’s a good range of veggie options available and we choose a ‘chicken’ and beyond ‘beef’ burger along with some drinks. Everything arrived quickly and piping hot and was most importantly, really tasty! Staff were friendly and helpful when asked about further bookings and Xmas, bringing dogs etc, checking the availability for us. Will definitely visit again! PS parking is across the road and you can get it free when you go in and use the screen at the bar!

Disgusting attitude from all staff as soon as we entered , glaring and miserable, told the lady we had a table booked for 11 people and she glared and muttered something under her breath and stormed off , came back and said to find our own tables , which were separated from each other , paid for meals , 2 of our party got their carvery after queuing for 15 minutes for peas?? Then the rest of the party were told there was no carvery for another 30 mins (bear in mind the other 2 were eating theirs) Then told there was no chips left for the kids. Only meat available was Turkey which we weren’t told about whilst paying, nor chips!! Not all our party like Turkey , the staff were rude and unhelpful glaring and arguing with us. On leaving the restaurant after we asked for a refund ., walking past the kitchen had a strong smell of marijuana and there was a member of staff I’m presuming it was the manager as she was dressed in black standing in the entrance door of the restaurant smoking a cigarette blowing it in our faces .We booked a family meal for New Year’s Day , some had travelled miles. Only 3 out of the 11 of us had a meal , the rest had to sit and wait for them to finish before we went elsewhere for a meal, Never will we be going back nor will we recommend. Your staff need retrained and I’ll be surprised if you get new customers returning, this spoilt our new year’s celebrations, Disgusting!!!!

Booked a family festive lunch for today. We arrived a few minutes before our booking time 12.00 and stood at the bar waiting to be greeted and shown to our table. We were completely ignored until I said we had a reservation. The reply was "we are still setting up and aren't ready yet! Just sit anywhere....." We found a table in the shabby restaurant area which could do with a deep clean and waited to be served. There was no festive menu on the table so I asked a man, possibly the manager who just pointed and said they are on the tables! I found one on the next table. Then I asked if anyone was serving and he said quite abruptly you order at the bar! So off to the bar we went to place our order, the young lady behind the bar was so miserable and uninterested we almost walked out but decided we might struggle to get a table anywhere else at such short notice so gave our order and hoped for the best. After a very long wait the starters arrived, loaded yorkies- 2 tiny soggy yorkshire puddings sparsely filled with some sort of dry tasteless meat smothered in plastic cheese. For the main course we had chosen the festive traditional carvery. The "chef" carved a choice of turkey gammon or ham in wafer thin slices and you helped yourself to vegetables and gravy. There was a bowl of sausages (just plain small sausages not even pigs in blankets) but we were not allowed to have one as we hadn't paid the £2 supplement to upgrade our meal to include a sausage! The veg was abysmal, the tiniest sprouts you have ever seen, red cabbage boiled to death, tasteless mashed turnip, tasteless carrots, the cheapest quality frozen peas, tasteless cauliflower cheese, bland sloppy mashed potatoes and the only redeeming feature, half decent roast potatoes. The gravy was congealed lukewarm brown liquid. Everything was barely lukewarm very bland with no flavour and very unappealing. When we got back to the table our plates from our starters had still not been cleared. After the very disappointing meal so far we waited for our deserts- nothing arrived so after a while hubby went off in search of someone to ask. Eventually the deserts arrived but the server didn't clear either the starter or the main course plates and just squeezed the desert plates around the mess. We couldn't believe it and the whole lunch had just descended into a complete farce. We had to clear them ourselves onto another table. The deserts were every bit as bad as the rest of the meal and they were all cold. We didnt waste our time complaining due to the indifferent attitude of the staff. I visited the ladies on the way out and although they were shabby they were clean, however its a bit disconcerting when your feet stick to the floor! This used to be a lovely restaurant but has gone way downhill recently and is in dire need of a refurb and a change of staff to people who actually take pride in their work and can at least be pleasant to paying customers.

Food was luke warm, dried up black pudding & dread to think how long the bacon & sausages had been there A member of staff asked what my problem was!!! Told her the lack of food was my problem! Chef standing in bar area chatting to another member of staff instead of sorting food, staff just didn’t care, tables dirty, wooden seating areas dusty, plenty of staff on duty & hardly any customers so no excuses! Not to mention the place being freezing as boiler was off so not able to wash hands in hot water after toilet visit! Recently we have visited twice in the past 2 weeks for breakfast, first time as a family of 4 and today my son and myself. Both times the bar staff attitudes were rotten, we are inconveniencing them by asking for any form of service, clearly the wrong job because customer service is non existent. The food is standard eat what you can, not bad, Plenty choice. Please don't ask for tomato sauce because you won't get it, it's rationed on one per person, I'd of actually paid for it so it doesnt spoil anyone's breakfast but no you cannot buy it, it's given by the attituded bar staff. The kitchen staff seem to be the fun, you can hear singing and laughter, just what the pub atmosphere should be like, maybe the front of house staff should spend an hour in the kitchen to lighten up! We won't try a third time, and won't return!

The carvery was lovely today and apart from the roast meats there was lovely mash, roasties and an amazing six rainbow veg all nicely cooked and carved by a lovely young man. Best presentation of veg here ever. The staff on the bar not so great

This place has had some harsh reviews lately but we've been coming here for a long time for both breakfast and evening meals and I can honestly say the staff have always made us feel very welcome from the manager to Katie who works behind the bar to Lucy the chef and all our meals have been spot on I can't complain at all and fantastic value for money shell and Ashley

All our starters, drinks and desserts were fab. Two of us had carvery and the beef was beautiful. The veg was a little dry but a quick mix sorted that! One of our party had a burger which cost around £11. He was extremely disappointed in the actual burgers as they were cheap processed meat which he said was horrible. I tasted them and agreed. At that cost, I would have expected a lot better quality. Beefeater burgers cost approximately £2 more and they are amazing as they are so meaty and definitely not processed. The burger really let you down. We explained to the server that it wasn’t eaten because it tasted cheap n nasty, but got no response! We still paid in full for it, but definitely disappointed. Since it was our first visit here, it could well be our last unfortunately.

Very disappointed with attitude of staff member, we had booked for 3pm looking forward to a late lunch after a lovely walk on the beach. We were told it was first come first served basis on a Sunday which was not clear on booking info, a family who had not booked took a table after an embarrassing confrontation. The staff member was not helpful or apologetic we were just told we had to wait, what is the point of making a booking. We had planned our day, which was ruined and had travelled quite a distance. Would not go back, perhaps training should be given on how to deal with customers professionally

Regularly go to the Astley for Sunday lunch asked today to move to a different table because of the heat of the sun to be told all tables were booked in a most aggressive manner by person who sat us easily recognisable by his unironed shirt I could see at least 10 empty tables. Told to close the blinds but there were none only filthy curtains connected by a few rings full of dust and spiders webs when I moved them not what I would have expected ! Fab food but whole place needs to be cleaned and staff need training and a non-iron uniform.
