The Talbot in Lewisham

Went for a Sunday roast and had the pork belly porchetta which was delicious. Great local pub! Will definitely be returning!

A very handsome pub, rather fancy, with gorgeous food (Head Chef has worked for a rockstar band you will know and some illustrious guests are regulars here) and a pretty garden which is also well heated. Some might accuse The Talbot of being bourgeois and unacceptably dear - and it's true, the drinks prices are eye-watering. I dream of the crispy roast potatoes though, and the lovely desserts, so this is a special treat every now and then.

Went here for a family Friday lunch and was not disappointed. The food was good and the service friendly. I will go again.

I had only been to the Talbot for a (very nice) glass of wine, but recently we went for a family dinner and were absolutely delighted by the food they serve. We honestly didn't have a single dish that wasn't great. Among us, we had the chicken supreme, ox cheek, and the pork main, the beet+greens salad and chocolate delice + apple crumble for desserts. Choc delice was definitely the winner for us😂 Good size portions, the service was friendly and food came in good time, considering it was a Friday eve. Will definitely go again!

The roast was amazing. It’s rare to find a roast actually worth the price point. The beef was unbelievably tender and the duck was excellent.

What a pub, what a team! Artur, who served us was incredible and we felt really welcome. He was very friendly and chatty and made sure the drink was flowing and the food kept on coming (very swiftly!). The food is really amazing, and the menu rotates depending on which day you visit so it’s always a pleasant surprise. Looking forward to our next visit!

The Talbot is an excellent pub for both a casual drink and a proper, sit-down meal. Their downstairs bar and outside awning area are great for grabbing a drink at the end of the day, and the selection and quality of drinks are superb. The Talbot also has an upstairs formal dining room, which is wonderful for having lunch or dinner - food is consistently good, supported by friendly and attentive service. Their Sunday Roast is a particular highlight! I don't hesitate to recommend the Talbot to any friends locally and I will be back there throughout the year. They're dog-friendly too (except upstairs), which is a bonus.

Nice outdoor space, go on Saturday for a beer after the market.

Sunday roast food quality, very good. Service a little chaotic. Please most importantly, don't clear plates away until everyone has finished. We were entertaining friends and it was really quite embarrassing.

Great atmosphere. Really friendly staff and very accommodating. Our waitress went above and beyond to make my birthday special. Food is tasty and generous portions. Only criticism is that the potatoes were a bit over cooked.

Lovely pub, great atmosphere! Service as rally good when we arrived and lacked throughout the night with a long wait for food and even longer for dessert (apparently the kitchen had some issues?!). Small portions, if you’re hungry so the 9 of us had mixed feelings about value for money.

It was an amazing dining experience. The team really made us feel welcomed, and Angel really was hospitable. We were seated quickly. The back of the pub was reserved for dining in, and the pub had a great atmosphere. We got two three cost meals and drinks. I have been told to try it before by friends, and it definitely smashed all expectations and worth the price. I will definitely come back to try the Sunday roast!

Love The Talbot! We recently had a christmas party there and the vibe, food, and team were excellent. Knocked a star off for service as previous occasions in the past when it can be extra busy, the food and drinks can sometimes be a little slow, but if you are aware of that then it's all fine. Also a star off the food as the roast potatoes could be a little more well done for my liking, so will upgrade that to 5 stars should they go they go up a notch in future! Other than that, The Talbot is definitely one of the best places in the Brockley / Ladywell / Lewisham areas.

The Talbot is becoming one of my favourite pubs in London. We went on Christmas eve and had an amazing meal, everything was perfect. All the staff were extremely friendly, helpful and quick and the food and beers couldn't be faulted. It will definitely be one of our frequent Sunday lunch venues.

An absolutely lovely evening at the Talbot with 12 of us inc 3 kids. There’s a lovely table at the back big enough for all of us with a huge skylight which must be extra special in the day. Beautiful Christmas decorations and water already on the table it felt good star right away. Late arrivals, loudness and chaos from us and we were treated with patience and great service from Richard and colleagues. Food and drinks were delicious, and a good kids menu. After an understandable mix up with one order this was dealt with with exemplary customer service. Amazing festive tiramisu and espresso martinis for dessert. Thanks for making our evening with our friends and kids so memorable.

We came here on Christmas Day- a party of 8 including a two and five year old, and what a great decision! The food was amazing, really, really delicious. The crab ravioli starter was out of this world. The children were well catered for, the atmosphere was great. They hadn’t booked the tables in sittings so we were able to stay and have drinks- they were out of one of the drinks we wanted so went to the shop to get more. Honestly can’t fault the service. This is the first time I’ve booked to eat out on Christmas Day but I would do it again in a heartbeat. 10/10! Thank you to all the team for making our day so lovely.

In the late 1700s, The Talbot became an important coaching inn, providing rest and refreshments on a route to London. At around this time, the inn came into the ownership of the Oundle brewery of John Smith, whose firm retained it until 1962. Refurbished 2021/2022 to its former glory. Seasonal & varied menu with excellent quality of food and service. Superb outdoor area with plenty of seating plus heating lamps & blankets too. Dog-friendly 🐕 The staff are friendly and attentive. Definitely will return & thoroughly recommend it.

Had a fantastic Christmas Eve dinner at this place! The Confit Duck Leg and Sunday Roast Beef were absolutely delicious, providing a solid culinary experience. The toffee pudding was the perfect light and sweet touch to end the meal. Huge thanks to the incredible staff who worked late to serve us – their hospitality made the evening even more enjoyable. Can't wait to come back for another round!

Great drinks selection and super friendly staff

I didn't have food but the Brockley Brewery Autumn Amber Ale was lovely. Sat in the garden as it was quite warm.

The team went above and beyond to ensure our first visit was memorable. We thoroughly enjoyed the summer roast and wine selection. The pudding options are to die for 😍

Fantastic Bistro pub restaurant just tucked away from the main road coming out of Lewisham. Rustic aesthetic, with a modernity to it that feels warm. Sunday roast is pretty tasty here. The staff are also welcoming and friendly

We held my son's naming ceremony at the Talbot and secured a semi-secluded space on the ground floor that was absolutely perfect. Rich couldn't have been nicer and more accommodating about making sure we could have the experience we were after (even allowing us to start the event before the pub technically opened). On the day, we were extremely well looked after and everyone commented on how delicious the food was. Couldn't have been happier!!

I absolutely love The Talbot Pub! It's my favorite local spot. The manager, Rich, is fantastic; he always welcomes us with a smiley face. Thomas, the bartender, is the friendliest ever! The upstairs dining area is gorgeous, and it was the perfect setting for my baby shower in July. Plus, their food is incredibly yummy. It's a great spot with wonderful vibes!

Have been here 3 times in the last year and had an excellent experience every time. The prices may look a little high at first glance but they are honestly very reasonable for the high quality of food and service (without loss of quantity either!). The building has been given a fantastic make-over and it is a joy to be seated in any of the various different areas within, or indeed without in the garden area. In particular, the steak night menu on Wednesdays is strongly recommended!

I return back to eat great fries, i was served "normal" size fries, paid more than the triple cut and to have some salt i had to call several time someone.

We visit The Talbot fairly regularly and it’s always good, but the food this time was exceptional - the pork bun and the chicken and ham pie in particular. Good choice of beers too.

Fantastic service and atmosphere,was having Sunday roast but it was disappointing in comparison with the one we had in January. That was the best roast I ever had. Because of lack of consistency I will not return, massive shame.

We live in Brockley and think this is hands down the best pub in the area - the food is high restaurant quality, great selection of drinks, and the best service - we love to so much that we held our wedding here this year!! We weren’t disappointed

This place is superb. Service, ambience, decor, food all impeccable. I had the rabbit which was absolutely delicious - only wish there'd been a bit more on the plate as I ate every last morsel as it was all cooked to perfection!

The service was slightly slow but to be expected as it was very busy, and rightly so. Food was excellent and the staff were very friendly and welcoming and handled the rush very well. A lovely afternoon all round, can't wait to come back.

Such a lovely place for a Sunday roast! The atmosphere is lively and full of locals but still laid back and very chill. We booked to sit outside the day before but next time we’ll book further in advance so we can sit under the covered area which looked cosier and had pretty lights. Service was warm and smiley, though slightly slower towards the end as they got much busier which was totally understandable. (You probably do need to book in advance for a Sunday roast to avoid disappointment!) As for the food we came mainly for the Sunday roast but wanted to try the pigs head croquettes which sounded interesting - the outside had a crispy light breading and the filling was porky, fatty, slightly gelatinous, melt in your mouth and went really well with the chilli jam. They also kindly gave us some sourdough with whipped butter to try, and this was also really good! The butter was light and creamy and had flakes of sea salt in it and the bread was soft and crusty. Onto the main event, we had the beef roast and the cured pork chop - the beef was tender and seasoned nicely however I wish it was a bit pinker, and the pork chop was massive but a little too salty. The roast potatoes were crispy and we liked all of the other vegetables too which were all cooked well. One of the best yorkies we’ve tried as well, light and crispy but still fluffy. Gravy was good but wished there was a bit more! Nice to come here if you want to treat yourself to an elevated pub lunch or Sunday roast. Expect around £35 pp.

Excellent food here, always changing menu and decent beers, drinks and wine. It’s always busy here and I’ve never been disappointed with the food - the Mexican tacos this summer were amazing and the most authentic I’ve had in this country. Lovely spacious outside area and they also host parties and events here too.

I went for Sunday lunch with a friend. Staff very friendly and helpful. Despite being fully booked the staff managed to move us to a better table. Had the roast chicken. Generous portion and delicious. I wish the bird was a bit more crispy and the chef had used the juices of the bird to make the gravy, instead of using the “bisto” option. The Yorkshire pudding was huge. Overall, a very good dining experience with reasonable prices and always happy to comeback

Incredible meal at the Talbot with my family from Sydney - the best of their trip to London. We especially loved the whipped cods roe and chicken skin and bayonne ham. Gorgeous wine too. Kids were very happy with their meals and ice cream. Friendly staff and relaxed vibe. Loved it!

Delicious food and great service - highly recommend!

Most people come to chat with friends as I did. So why make this almost impossible with loud heavy beat music drumming through the otherwise nice surroundings? Left after one drink because couldn’t take any more.

Slightly over priced but a good atmosphere

We popped in for a quick drink and needed up staying a few hours, having seen the menu. Everything about our lunch there was great. The staff were lovely & attentive and the food was perfectly cooked & beautifully presented. They have a decent selection of the usual good keg beer and the cask ale was well kept & perfectly cellared.

I really like their take on a Sunday roasts with either Patatas bravas or potato salad - made for a lighter lunch. Beef was cooked perfectly. The starters (whipped cod's row in particular) were really good - dessert - sticky toffee pudding was *chefs kiss* 🤌

The Talbot is an unusual combination of a town inn and a traditional village pub, serving the very mixed, attractive and interesting Brockley conservation area. With its airy interior and good sizes outdoor areas (protected from the rain by generous canopies) and its fascinating clientele, it is an excellent venue for a drink with friends or a slap-up meal and all stations in between. The staff are friendly, courteous and efficient and the food good with generous helpings - there is no feeling of being rushed. Highly recommended for those lucky enough to leave in the neighbour and a good excursion for those further afield.

A dry, over cooked, under seasoned tasteless piece of steak with a garnish barely evolved since the 80’s. Good triple cooked chips -too many to balance the disappointingly small piece of meat. Good service though, shame about the dinner. Worth the £28? I don’t think so.

We visited The Talbot with friends for tacos and cocktails on a Friday night and had a fantastic time. The food was delicious and the special accompanying cocktails equally so. The outdoor space beneath the canopy is great, particularly with the summer we’re having. We’ve enjoyed many dinners and quizzes at the Talbot, and now we have another reason to return again soon.

The Talbot is such a great pub. The food is excellent and the staff have the balance between being friendly and professional just right. We haven’t been for a while as we don’t live locally but it was nice to see the same friendly faces serving the food… plus a new friendly face! We ordered from the Taco menu and the main menu both were fantastic. Would definitely recommend the frozen margarita!

Love this place! We visit regularly as it is one of the nicest pubs in the area and has a beautiful ibiza vibes covered front garden. The addition of the taqueria and tequila bar on Fri/Sat is absolutely fab and is a really buzzy spot for some weekend food and drinks with friends. Never had a bad meal here, there is a great selection of yummy cocktails and the staff are really brilliant and friendly :)

The food at The Talbot is excellent - I was surprised at how good it was. It’s absolutely worth the extra couple of pounds over normal pub food prices, The Talbot serves very high quality restaurant food. Can’t wait to come back and can’t recommend it highly enough.
