Super tasty food - we went for a Sunday roast. Service kind of fell off a cliff halfway through I.e after our food was served we had to ask multiple times for our table to be cleared, we then had to ask for a dessert menu, we had to ask twice for more water, and ask twice for an extra wine glass. That aside, excellent bloody Marys , good beer selection and we’ll probably be back.

This pub has the best service and food! I have been to it a few times so I recommended my boss to do our Christmas drinks and food there! We had a lot of lovely small dishes and drinks, had lovely time until I passed out 😵 I have to praise the waiter who looked after our table and staffs who work on the night when I collapsed acted really quick to assist my boss and colleagues on first aid on me! I was really ill due to drink while having a heavy flu! Thank you all so much for taking care of me! I apologise for the drama and 😔 mess I caused! I have recovered fully now and thank you! we are truely grateful! 🙏 I hope you all have a lovely busy Christmas 🎄 🥹❤️‍🔥🙏

Been here before and had a great experience, I took my Mother and Father today. It was OK. You forgot the Yorkshire puddings. We asked for some extra gravy. That was £1 extra on top of a £150 bill..... oh, and the fire alarm went off for 2 minutes to make the occasion extra special. I'm very unlikely to visit again...

Booked The Talbot for a group Xmas meal with a bunch of friends I meet up with once a year from around the UK. It did not disappoint! The food was exceptional, we were provided with a great private space which was perfect given the number of young kids in attendance and the staff were attentive & alive to all our needs & those of the little ones. As South London locals, we'll certainly be back!

Not been here for few years as to be honest heard it was a bit over priced after refurbishment. What a mistake. Came here for Sunday roast and couldn't fault anything. Lovely table for two in the dining room. Really pleasant service, our waitress Nina was great. Had a couple of glasses of delicious English sparkling wine and baked cheese starter with lovely pickles and potatoes and then the beef and veggie options for the roasts. Actually one little thing wrong, the table was slightly wobbly. But Richard who is I think manager tried to sort it and said they are all hand made and getting guy back to fix them. Its the little touches like this that help make it so nice. 100% we will be coming back. Really highly recommended.

Having just experienced a masterclass in bad service, I was moved to write a first-ever restaurant review. My wife and I walked in mid-afternoon without a booking on the off-chance there'd be an available table. After checking, the maitre d confirmed no tables inside - fair enough - but that we could eat outside unless we wanted to wait until 6pm to eat. Outside we went and sat in a heated booth with a reserved sign. The server then told us we would need to move but couldn't confirm what time the booth booking was due, and all the other reserved signs were just there to help manage walk-ins. Odd way to handle it, but no problem - we moved to a non-booth table and the server kindly moved a patio heater for us, took our order for a roast each and placed our cutlery on the table. He then returned to tell us that in fact there was no food available. As in, no honouring of our order, no starters available, no food at all. On questioning he said it was because they needed to 'protect advance bookings'. No answer to what would've happened had we waited until the 6pm table; seemingly no solution for walk-ins whatsoever. So we ordered a cold sausage roll bar snack. And then the cherry on the service cake - the poor server was sent out by his maitre d to collect our cutlery. No attempt by the maitre d to apologise, make any attempt to explain, comp the cold sausage rolls or offer us a round of drinks. If we'd been told at the beginning there was no food available, we would've understood and left without spending money on a round of drinks (and the cold sausage rolls). It will take quite something to convince us to return. To the owners of The Talbot - you've done a lovely job on the renovation, your food looks great, and you've created a great vibe. But your customers are your lifeblood and your people are your key strength and you seem to have forgotten both those essential points.

A good all-round pub, albeit with a strange approach to service. Tasteful décor, a thirst-quenching range of beer (including the quintessential Harvey's Best), and accomplished cookery. The staff like to impose a rule rather than accommodate your straightforward request (e.g. "You can't order at the bar" Then taking ages to serve your table). I suspect this comes from the management. It understandably attracts families during the day, so isn't the best option for a quiet lunch for two, although we found upstairs to be generally less chaotic.

I have been to The Talbot many times and have always found it great, but yesterday was terrible. We waited over an hour for two roasts. We then ordered a coffee and a tea. It took 45 mins for the coffee to arrive and it was stone cold. After another wait of about 20 mins they brought me a hot coffee. The tea never arrived despite 3 different members of staff apparently going to find out where it was. The food is good, but not great. The service is pretty dire.

Went yesterday with family as someone recommended this place. Booked a table but were waiting at the entrance for about 5 minutes before somebody even spoke to us. Then had to wait another 5-10 minutes before we got our table. They didn't have beers we ordered and only had beef roast left at 5 pm. The roast didn't come with all the usual ingredience and half way through our food we got Yorkshire pudding after we asked for some.. At the end I asked to remove service charge but the waiter didn't even ask why or if something was wrong with our experience. The food was not worth 24 pounds and based on yesterday's experience I'd not come back again. Edit: just seen some photos here of people's roasts and ours was probably half the size haha, for 24 pounds

**Updated review 21/10/24** My family and I enjoyed a Birthday lunch in The Talbot's upstairs restaurant. We had the area to ourselves (which worked nicely due to the company of an active 1 year old!) and enjoyed great food and drink, accompanied by brilliant and proactive service from Cal. In all, Cal's service and attentiveness made the lunch what it was - a superb meal out, celebrating with friends and family. **Original review** The Talbot is an excellent pub for both a casual drink and a proper, sit-down meal. Their downstairs bar and outside awning area are great for grabbing a drink at the end of the day, and the selection and quality of drinks are superb. The Talbot also has an upstairs formal dining room, which is wonderful for having lunch or dinner - food is consistently good, supported by friendly and attentive service. Their Sunday Roast is a particular highlight! I don't hesitate to recommend the Talbot to any friends locally and I will be back there throughout the year. They're dog-friendly too (except upstairs), which is a bonus.

It’s just not a pub. I don’t know what it is. I don’t think they do. It’s not really a vibe inside, so you’ve got to sit outside, so that’s only good in the summer. They won’t take food orders at the bar, forcing you into a sort of restaurant situation even with the ‘pop-up’ Mexican street food that was there (for which, our server didn’t really know what the menu was about or who of us had ordered what). My point on which is that you’re then going to be expected to pay service charge when you don’t want ‘service’. The beers are good. The wine is good. The Mexican food was good. Its just when some one says “meet me at the pub” and it the Talbot, I’d rather not.

NOT DOG FRIENDLY. You walk in to an empty pud and you are greeted by an aggressive dog that charges you dragging a chair that’s crashed to the floor behind it. The owner of the dog who was staff asked his dog in a concerned way why it had done that. Good job the dog with me didn’t react. No concern for me or my dog or half an apology. And if I thought for one moment that the grin on the member staff face was anything other than embarrassment I would have moped the floor with the pair of them. Did point that I work with aggressive dogs so not to phased. You best cross the street if you’ve got that one with you is my best advice. I won’t be so forgiving next time.

A very nice pub, especially for such an urban area. Staff are excellent & food is good.

We visited as a family. Great service and delicious Sunday roast with all the trimmings.

The pub is nice but you can’t have food outside. And the menu is excessively bougie (squab pigeon?! John Dory?!) I’d come back but only if I’d had dinner before and I didn’t mind paying a tenner for a glass of wine. Lovely concept for gentrifiers x

Very good all round restoration of a pub, food outstanding. Not clear about the drinking only side of things... We ate. With really good outside space

Rubbish. Full of posh, sycophantic middle class snobs. The staff are rude and full of themselves.

This is one of SE London's best roasts. Bloody busy. Nice friendly service.

Fantastic pub! Absolutely amazing food, the staff are super friendly and the drinks are 10/10. I'd visit every day if my bank balance allowed!

Great quality and seasonal food! Lovely atmosphere and very attentive staff. Had been meaning to go for food after going for drinks, definitely worth the trip. On the more expensive side but worth it.

food was just about warm. Fish was not the quality I would expect from a takeaway.

I don’t review very often, on Google or anywhere. But I’ve had one of the best fish and chips (haddock with a side of saveloy, mushy peas and tartar sauce… but of course) and it was bloody brilliant. I tend to avoid ordering fish and chips because I love the meal so much but often it’s a let down… I’m quite particular! But hands down one of the best I’ve had in a very long time. Loved it. Feeling very full and very satisfied. Thanks, keep up the good work. In the infamous words of The Terminator, I’ll be back.

Buen café, pero es a mediados de enero y la puerta está abierta y la calefacción está apagada. Se sentó en abrigos y se fue para ir a un lugar más cálido. También la música era un poco ruidosa para tener una conversación.

Restaurant dirty and run down. Food terrible, pie undercooked underneath and over ooked on top. Pastry like leather, meat scarce and tasteless. Gravy bland and watery.
