Brief drop in for a quick lunch of eggs royale, which is served with a soft boiled rather than poached eggs (fair enough with only a small kitchen). Eggs were hard boiled. Soft boiling an egg isn’t tricky. Salmon could also have been better. But service was good and prices reasonable for this part of town.

This place was exactly what I was looking for on a rainy Saturday morning whilst killing time between meeting friends. Lovely smiley welcome from the guy behind the till and a relaxed, non pretentious attitude all round. You don’t feel like you’re gonna walk out of there having paid £25 for a flat white and a deconstructed avocado on toast combo. Never tried a Turkish Breakfast before (I went for the veggie option) but soooo good, it’s more of a lunch really with salads, halloumi and hummus but the garlic bread/toast is banging.I’m almost tempted to get the same thing again and enjoy it all over again. Keep up the good work Birdie Num Nums and never change (old school wipe clean table cloths and all) x

Delicious and different breakfast options. My companion had shakshuka, a favourite dish, and pronounced it excellent. I chose the avocado butter option and asked for smoked salmon on the side, but they had run out of smoked salmon and their delivery hadn't arrived (we did come in first thing on Monday morning). The very helpful woman behind the counter helped me figure out an alternative, which was two salads (the sweet potato one and the tomato/basil one) with avocado and a delicious soft-boiled egg that had been preserved in soy and vinegars. She put some beetroot hummus on for me too, and it was one of the most unusual and one of the most delicious breakfasts I've eaten. The peppermint tea was very good too, I was pleased to see it was Fairtrade. Slight downsides: it was cold with the door open (in February!) and the music was a bit loud, so I found us a seat away from the speaker and then we could talk. I had a piece of gluten-free carrot cake to take away which was scrumptiousl. Lovely staff, very nice atmosphere, terrific food choices. The prices were reasonable too. I'd happily eat here again.

I'm hoping this review will be constructive; I really should have mentioned something at the time, but the staff were so sweet that I found myself not wanting to upset them. So the positives were: staff very friendly, good range of options for different dietary needs on the menu. However, the negatives were unfortunately very off-putting. Firstly, it was absolutely freezing in there! My friends and I all had to keep our coats on. Secondly, and this is worse, the food I ordered was practically inedible. I had a vegan falafel wrap. The falafel was very dry and then lettuce, cabbage etc was very wilted and sour tasting. Either it had been doused in vinegar or was actually off. I left half of it untouched and in fact had a tummy ache later, which may have been related to the food. Overall the experience felt like a waste of money, and I don't think I'd go back there again. I was very disappointed, because I'd heard good things!

There was a very good range of teas, coffee, and smoothies - my daughter said that her spinach smoothie was excellent. I probably wouldn't have thought of going here had it not been for the recent publicity, so although the controversial review by another Trip Advisor member a couple of weeks ago was truly ridiculous, it may have had the opposite effect to what he had intended and ended up giving some well deserved publicity to this charming little café. I chose poached eggs with avocado salsa (because I'm a posh breakfast type) Bevvy of choice? Got to be tea, in a pot.Missus had granola (each to their own) and a smoothie which was minty enough to wake the dead. All in all, this stunning breakfast set me up not just for a normal day, but a day in London. Battling traffic, Pearly kings and Queens, and those guys with big black hats.I will be here again to eat like this. Awaiting a re-stock of lemon-grass teabags.... ;)

Popped in today after the whole uproar of Lemmongrass Teagate, and the unfair review that the venue received after a customer had a drama lama and called the police as he was served the wrong tea.I managed to infiltrate the venue, I think I got away without them noticing I am a Senior Trip Advisor bloke, and highly respected journalist, upon sitting down I could hear a cacophony of police sirens "here we go" I thought, "someone got a sausage when they wanted bacon", but no it was all right, someone down the road had just been robbed. Nothing to worry about, the food and beverage constabulary weren't going to interrupt my breakfast wrestling some poor waitress to the ground and taking her away to do 3-5 years hard labour. The venue is very nice, it is decorated in an eclectic style, the staff were very friendly and we loved the music, in fact several times I had to stop eating because I was singing along (sorry to everyone else there who could hear me). There is free WiFi and the code is easy to accessWe ordered two breakfast, I decided to go off piste and ask for my 2 eggs to be changed for bacon, which they were happy to do, and to drink we had a black coffee and Turkish yea (because, really the only people who drink Lemongrass Tea are Muppets), this came with some cucumber water. Now I am really skeptical about water with bits of veg in it, and I did turn my nose up at it initially. However as I'd been working the day before, I was obviously hungover, so I tried it. TripAdvisor I drank the whole jug...Breakfast arrived quickly and the waitress was able to provision us with the extra things we asked for. The food was lovely, it was clearly good quality ingredients and it arrived well presented, it was tasty. We both had the breakfast (you can see the photo of the menu for a list). And the tomato that it came with is literally all we have both talked about all day. Twelve hours later and I am still waxing lyrical about it...Used the loos, they were in good order and kept tidy, not really much you can say about a loo is there?Once we'd finished I had a chat with the owner, who was lovely, while I ate some of the free sample cake they have by the till (the cake I had, was carrot cake and it tasted AMAZING). I actually ate quite a lot of the free cake but it was nice, and I think I got away with it.The whole negative review from an unhappy customer could massively affect a small business like this, but I was happy to see that it doesn't seem to be, the cafe was vibrant and busy and the food was tasty and amazing value, a whole breakfast for £7.50, you can't do much better than that in London. Don't let the opinion of one moron put you off visiting, if you go here and you didn't enjoy it then I would be amazingly surprised...tl;Dr good food, nice venue. Clean loo and WiFi is free.Seriously, what was in that tomato??

The thing about flavoured tea, is it all tastes the same. It's just slightly funny tasting boiled water with mildly different smells. Which is fine, if that's what you like. So if they don't have the flavour you want, they'll give you something more or less the exact same and it won't matter at all. But at the end of the day, tea is tea wherever you go. Don't come here for the tea.Come here because far too often obnoxious, awful, vile, entitled customers get away with being rude and demanding to waiting staff. They see no difference between "server" and "servant" and delight in making themselves feel more important in their pathetic little lives by being abusive towards people who often have no option but to take it for fear of losing their job (or, it seems, being reported to police!). So when an establishment stands up and does not allow it, placing reason, decency and the wellbeing of staff over the couple of pounds worth of business from one of these awful people, that establishment deserves to be celebrated and supported! So go! Buy tea! You have my unending respect, Birdie Num Nums. TAKE ALL MY MONEY!

Well, first of all, I'd just like to say that I am not a Senior Poster on TA, and in my lowly position as a 'once in a while' poster, I don't have high up connections and I'm not very important, unlike Mr Lemongrass and Ginger, who is clearly very well connected. But next time I am there and I'm feeling a bit peckish, I'll definitely be stopping by.I'll try not to call the police because there is no sugar in the sugar shakers....mainly because I'm not some jumped up little imbecile with an unjustified sense of entitlement, and that I've got better things to do with my day than whining about simple mistakes.Though, if there's not enough milk in my tea next time.....I might just write a strongly worded letter to my MP.I do hope Mr Latturdo doesn't ever come back, because that really would bring down the tone of the joint. All in all, a nice little caff, with very nice staff.

I pop in here often and it's a fabulous little place with incredibly friendly people. I've not reviewed it before but was so appalled by the way bullying Roberto treated you that I had to correct that. Keep up the good work and don't be intimidated by spoilt little boys who cry to Mama if they don't get their way immediately.

Lemon instead of lemongrass. Well there is a limit. Don't you realise that some people are so full of their own self importance that this type of thing can push them over the edge. And then to not massage their super ego is the icing on the cake ( I'm sure you serve delicious cakes ). I have never been to your establishment but I do love a cup of tea so next time I'm in the area I will make a point of visiting you and congratulate you on pricking the over inflated ego of a self important tea connoisseur . Gives us gentle tea drinkers a bad name. Keep up the good work.

I've not actually visited this cafe but reading about what happened with that guy who complained about getting the wrong teabag, well, I felt obliged to come and stick up for this hardworking small business by giving it five stars. I will certainly visit when next in Lewisham... And will be proudly ordering a lemon and ginger tea.

I have been to Birdie Nums Nums a few times now and I think it's fantastic. Great atmosphere, cheerful, friendly staff and delicious teas and cakes. When I read about the prat who caused a scene because he got the wrong tea bag (so much so that when asked to leave after he refused a refund and was rude to the staff he called THE POLICE) I was amazed at the stupidity of some people. Birdie Num Nums is brilliant and if you are in the area, do yourself a favour and check out this original and vibrant South London venue.

I like London as much as I like "senior contributors on TripAdvisor" and recruitment managers - but in Birdie Num Nums' case I might just pack up the bike and ride down for a cup of tea. When people who work out at gyms (like Roberto Lattarulo) aren't going to be there, I know I'll love it. I hope the media coverage packs your place out, Sevjan :)

Well I paid a visit to this pleasant cafe in July. I ordered the lemongrass & ginger tea. I was most upset to be served ginger & lemongrass tea which wasn't on the menu. The waitress did apologise & said that for no extra charge she would throw in some free boiling water, which made my day. Altogether a lovely experience.

Where else might one pop in for a coffee and yummy snack to watch an entire soap opera evolve thanks to one idiotic entitled customer who called the police when his tea order wasn't fulfilled perfectly? Why, Birdie Num Nums is just that place.Fantastic, caring customer service, lovely food and drinks, but the lack of lemongrass (yes darling they are NOT the same, didn't you even think to look carefully?) was enough to boil that guy's blood to the temperature of the very water used to concoct their delicious teas.Personally I returned home and created a special 'used teabag' shrine to commemorate the event and to offer gratitude to the effete whining tea-bagger himself.

I've actually got a Good Trip advisor profile, but would never 'boast' my status.Unlike Roberto, I have genuinely travelled globally and would NEVER post such a negative review over such a trivial thing. We stopped by this cafe and had an excellent experience. The guy who called the police over a tea bag should eat a slice of humble pie and be made to pay the cost of calling the police. The police is very busy and I don't want my tax money to fund his or anyone's tea bag obsession.

For me, as lovely as the staff are, it's not a great restaurant. It's very outdated, and it needs a massive revamp and a massive clean. It could be a wonderful place to get food, but it needs a proper in-depth. Makeover, clean new menu end more customer Focused.Unfortunately the restaurant is stuck in the 80s at the moment I do hope this restaurant gets a proper revamp before it's too late and we lose a great place in the community

Having just experienced a masterclass in bad service, I was moved to write a first-ever restaurant review. My wife and I walked in mid-afternoon without a booking on the off-chance there'd be an available table. After checking, the maitre d confirmed no tables inside - fair enough - but that we could eat outside unless we wanted to wait until 6pm to eat. Outside we went and sat in a heated booth with a reserved sign. The server then told us we would need to move but couldn't confirm what time the booth booking was due, and all the other reserved signs were just there to help manage walk-ins. Odd way to handle it, but no problem - we moved to a non-booth table and the server kindly moved a patio heater for us, took our order for a roast each and placed our cutlery on the table. He then returned to tell us that in fact there was no food available. As in, no honouring of our order, no starters available, no food at all. On questioning he said it was because they needed to 'protect advance bookings'. No answer to what would've happened had we waited until the 6pm table; seemingly no solution for walk-ins whatsoever. So we ordered a cold sausage roll bar snack. And then the cherry on the service cake - the poor server was sent out by his maitre d to collect our cutlery. No attempt by the maitre d to apologise, make any attempt to explain, comp the cold sausage rolls or offer us a round of drinks. If we'd been told at the beginning there was no food available, we would've understood and left without spending money on a round of drinks (and the cold sausage rolls). It will take quite something to convince us to return. To the owners of The Talbot - you've done a lovely job on the renovation, your food looks great, and you've created a great vibe. But your customers are your lifeblood and your people are your key strength and you seem to have forgotten both those essential points.
