Brockley's Rock in Lewisham

I've only put 4 stars on service as it took nearly twice as long to get the food from what I was told (18 actual 10 minutes told) and it wasn't as busy as other times. The food is great, but by now you already know this. Overall still 5 stars.

Brockley's Rock is a local fish and chips takeaway. They also do other fried fish like calamari and whitebait. If you don't want fried fish you can get grilled fish. There's a takeaway menu of specials. When we went on a Thursday in mid- October the specials were hake, honey-glazed salmon & sweet potato fishcakes and Thai fishcakes. They have vegan and gluten free options! There's a whole vegan menu in fact, including a vegan fish steak. Alongside your fish, "fish" or other non-fish mains you can get various sides. These include the traditional mushy peas and a homemade tartare sauce. The tartar sauce was pretty cheap, much cheaper than the curry sauce in fact. Not sure how much you get though. We saw they had recently been named by a newspaper online as one of the best fish and chips in London. We decided to go and try it for ourselves. We ordered 2 cod, regular chips, a battered sausage and curry sauce. It cost £27. The flavour was nice. The fish is fresh and the batter on point. The chips ok, but were more on the soft side and no crunchy/crispy ones. The battered sausage was not bad, but a little dry inside. The curry sauce was thick and moreish. They have a system where the delivery drivers pick up outside through a window. You can order inside for takeaway or to eat in. They also do orders over the telephone. Ordered cod and chips for collection. Cod was very chewy and stale. Wasn’t fresh at all. Totally disappointed and a waste of my money, had only a little bit and threw the rest away very disappointing not sure what all the fuss is about. Chips were fresh but I could have got chips anywhere. A real shame, will not recommend wasting your time or money

It's not rocket science but it is HIGH quality fish and chips. B Rock is smashing it out of the net, every day. If you build it , they will come. Consistency is 10/10 True Legends in the fish game.

Just moved locally and after a day of shifting furniture decided a delivery was in order. Holy sh*t that was the best fish and chips I have ever had. Perfection. 🫡

Friends raved about this fish n chip shop to us on our trip to London from Australia! The fish was greasy,and the calamari was like rubber, chips were unpalatable! and the price exorbitant , We get far better fish chips and calamari locally in South Australia at fraction of the price.

We have only ever gotten takeaway but it is always fab. I always get the haddock which is lovely and I like the mushy peas here.

Purchased fish and chips recently following reading reviews. Disappointed that the chips do not match the quality of Belgium fries, good British style chips. This shop is supposed to be one of the best in London and probably is, I expected a Belgium friterie in Brockley. At least the shop has not been converted to a pizza joint. Will continue to use as this is probably as good as it gets in London. I

Hands down best fish and chips I’ve had in London. Grilled options and plenty of fish varieties on the menu, solid curry sauce too. Service is speedy despite always being busy. They’ve got the workflow down to a tee.

Best fish and chips in South London by far, as evidenced by the always long queue. But it's definitely worth the wait. The vegan fish steak is also very tasty, so there's something for everyone.

Delicious fish and potatoes. The portions are large, you can take one for two. It's a pity that there are no tables in the restaurant, only takeaway.

Easily the worst Chippy since I last visited this place about 12 years ago. Still awful, actually beyond that. Avoid. Batter over spiced with a weird blend of tumeric/cumin/paprika… calamari cut into spiral, result - big rubbery chunks of squid. Wtf is wrong with RINGS in a plain flour coating ffs????

i placed an order on uber for me and my mum, fried cod, battered sausage and a portion of chips. all separate. it arrives with the fish in the box with the chips. i don’t like fish hence why it was ordered as separate items. this is the second time it’s been sent like this. i don’t get if things are ordered separately why do you put them together.

I oderd take away and was so oily, so you can tell they were using an old oil. It was literly inedible. And was expensive. Price-quality ratio maybe for 5£. For that price l recommend fish and chips in london bridge street market. Little bit cheaper, but much more nicer.

I juat ran in to get a portion of chips was £4.95 for.a large which I think is a bit steep! The chips weren't even that great either, I've had much better from less talked about places. Only went here to see what the hype was and glad I didn't buy any fish!

Not really a fish and chips guy but this was one of the best I’ve had. Proper meaty haddock and not to heavy on the batter. Well done.

I have no issue with the food provision of Brockley Rock. However, I post this 1 star review of Brockley Rock due to its business support to the 2024 Blythe Hill Festival - an opportunist link without appearing to have done a single word to its organisers to ensure that an understood, park improvement will be delivered within a designated timescale. Really disappointing and you deserved to be 'fried' for this poor decision.

Busy atmosphere but very systematic. The hake is fresh and grilled to perfection. You can request any fish to be grilled. It's worth the wait. Portions are good and the quality is even better. It's not a hidden gem because everyone in Brockley is usually here on a Friday and the weekend! Most importantly service is really good

Chips are OK, don't know what all the hype is about? Also, the people who work there are bloody misrable, come on guys, make an effort! 🤦‍♂️

Food was good but wanted more sauce options or Ketchup or mayonnaise or garlic dip , there is no place to sit and eat so we took our food to the nearest park

Ordered: Fish & chips; salt & vinegar What I got: Fish. No chips, no salt, no vinegar. Absolutely gutted about this. Travelled hours to try this place after all the fantastic reviews. Don’t get me wrong; the fish was fantastic!! But that wasn’t what I ordered. I hope one day I’ll be back in London to try again. The people were lovely, the food is lovely… but what a shame. Waited 40mins for a takeaway order and was given cold grilled fish. It had clearly been cooked 30mins prior. Waiting due to a mistake is one thing but then to be handed out cold food...

Went in saturday around 15.00 hrs for plaice and chips returned to my car,the fish batter was soft not crispy,the fish was very watery textured and the chips were slimy and stuck together,have used brockley rock and this was the worst meal i,ve ever had in there ate half of it and threw the rest away.

Best fish and chips innthe area I sometimes travel here from Tower hamlets. The "best place" near where I live is called fish House and its so oily and overpriced.

Husband & son on way home from work decided to try Brockleys Rock this was a Sunday evening, he had heard great things about the food, ordered 3 pies large chips, the chips were dry & looked like they had been there all day, the pies left a film in your mouth, the whole lot went in the bin, can honestly say this was first & last visit

Food is overpriced and over rated, fish is nearly a tenna. Fish and chips in London are terrible, mostly owned by non English who know nothing about real fish and chips. Much better chips to be had on Kent coast and up North. Save your money. How is this comment racist? Only traditional chip show owners know how to cook real fish and chips?

Excellent. Fish and chips with midlander seal of approval. Found them on the off chance on a certain delivery service. Will try fresher to confirm if 5 star. Tartar sauce bit runny and rich for me but tastes good, peas could be thicker but again good, I'm reaching

We ordered from delivetoo Cod and Chips..the chips were brown, dry, and not freshly cooked, you know , the ones left at the back that no one wants . i wonder how they can serve chips like that and get away with it .. so disappointing on a Friday night 🌙 the fish was good ... brockley rock has such a good reputation. i wonder if they are very busy that their standards and customer satisfaction and value for money have dropped 🤔 this is the third time this has happened .

Overrated. They cook fish fresh to order which any decent chippy should. My haddock was paper thin and not worth the money

I ordered via Just Eat, but couldn’t add feedback as I placed the order as a ‘guest’. The size of the large chips is definitely overpriced for the amount you get. I also ordered spring rolls expecting them to be characteristically small and crispy. However these spring rolls were huge with a thick, soft, chewy batter with a wet vegetable type sauce as the filling which consisted of peas and sweetcorn.

Brockley Rock offers an amazing experience! Their take away services are fantastic, always serving fresh and delicious meals. The staff is friendly and provides speedy service. Highly recommend!

Tried this place for the first time today as sadly Fishy Business in Brockley, which was excellent, has shut down. The batter was soft, and the cod was kind of…chewy. Couldn’t eat it. The mushy peas were nice and the chips were ok, but the fish was really bad. Maybe we got unlucky as the other reviews seem really good. Unfortunately I doubt we’ll try it again.

I have been ordering from here for a few years now . Lately especially on a Friday they don’t seem to be aavailable for orders on Deliveroo or Just eats . I am having to schedule an order on Uber eats, which is slightly inconvenient because of the times available for scheduling. I very rarely find the food, mainly the chips not up to scratch. Sometimes they could be more generous with the large portion of chips and a couple of times in the past the chips could have been cooked a little longer and drained of the oil a bit more but they normally are perfect with crunch on the outside and soft fluffy chip on the inside and some scraps which is my fave . The fish is lovely and the batter crisp . The sausage In batter is very moreish. The calamari is wonderful and that sweet chilli ginger sauce is lush. The curry sauce is very nice . Overall I am a regular customer and will continue to be . They are not cheap but they are far less expensive than that new posh fish shop in ladywell which charge £4 for a sausage in batter !!!!

Yesterday I had a client from New York who specifically requested to drive all the way from Notting Hill to try the best fish and chips in London! After crossing London in rush hour traffic I had to also try for myself. The food was cooked fresh and was absolutely spot on with a generous portion served! Usually I add a little sprinkle of salt and vinegar but this was already done quite satisfactorily. The service received from Eliza and Kyri certainly made my guests experience a most pleasant and memorable one! Very friendly and accommodating. Keep up the good work, many thanks again!

Got cod and chips last night and it's not the first time but the fish was flat no meat didn't fill me up it's was like a £6.50 fish and chips absolutely rubbish and for £13/£14 was well unimpressed won't be going back here fish and chips is fish and chip and if I'm paying £14 I want a piece of fish that's meaty and something that's going to fill me up if it wasn't so late and about to close when I got there would took it bk

Every Friday I use this fish and chip shop… it’s so busy like Clapham Junction Station. I usually get it delivered! Today I was nearby and decided to pick it up myself! It was not too busy about 5.30pm… within 10 minutes I got my order of kids fish and chips twice! Great I thought until I served it! It appeared to be more batter than fish and the edge of the potato… so very crispy! No potatoes or fat chips! Very disappointing today! Usually they get it right! Maybe they put on a better impression for those of us who usually have it delivered? 😢

Whenever I feel like Fish and Chips, I always go to Brockley Rock! I order the same, every time! Rock Small Chips (which are never small, by the way). And 2 not 1 Mushy Peas The Fish is very pleasing, light and Fresh, hmmm, I feel like some right now... The Chips are truly always Fresh and light with a few crackling bits (u know what I mean). Finally, The Mushy Peas, its got great colour texture, and flavour, and I always get 2, because it taste great with my Rock and Chips. Now if that doesn't get your taste buds going, try another great dish only at the one and only, BROCKLEY ROCK. THANK YOU ALWAYS FOR LOOKING AFTER ME @ BROCKLEY ROCK.

Food is always a pleasure to have, but unfortunately service is lacking. Warning to anyone who is ordering online for "collection" - they won't start making your food until you arrive so you're paying just eat/deliveroo/Uber eats for the privilege of standing there. No apologies either. Has happened a few times now and really disappointing.

Fish and chips here are absolutely spot on. You can see why they keep winning awards, bit pricey though.

Really good take away. Kids fish and chips portion is a very good. Down side is you need to pay for sauces compared to other take aways that are free. 35p per sauce.

Fantastic Fish and Chips! The is a lovely place to have your Fish and Chips. The Cod is crispy with very little oil and a thin batter. The curry sauce is absolutely ground breaking and highly recommended. Chips are soft but have a great bite to them. Service was great, please try them with onion vinegar! Strongly recommended- worth the drive.

I ordered from Uber eats. I had high hopes with it being so highly rated and recommended. I am so disappointed. The cod was over cooked it was chewie and dry. The chips were really bland and the mushy peas are the worst I have ever had. It’s not cheap either! Save your money and go somewhere else.

I’ve been coming here for around 5-6 years now, but this will be the last. The batter on cod was of such poor quality, the sort you’d find in a Chinese takeaway (if they should happen to serve it). It was very oily and dark brown in colour the same goes for the battered sausage, yuck. I don’t know if new owners have taken over, but what they serve does not deserve the premium prices. I’ve honestly had better cod buying the frozen variety from Sainsbury’s.

I came across them by chance through not wanting to go back out again after a busy day at work. I have never visited this establishment in person BUT all I can say is that my order of haddock and chips arrived in pristine condition and as fresh as if I had ordered in house. They have a high rating and deservedly so and I also commend their staff politeness and customer service over the phone.... thank you Brockey's Rock. You have won me over and I would recommend you HIGHLY!... and yes I have ordered more times since 😍

Ordered and collected last night the 8.9.23. cod large chips chicken and mushrooms pie and mushy peas. I asked for the fish to be cooked for 1min extra. When I got home the fish was so over cooked that it has become chewy. The chips were soggy and very poor considering it costs nearly ££5.00. Will not ever buy food from them again. Way overpriced.

Wow! The grilled fish was amazing, moist, fresh and flavoursome. Staff were extremely pleasant considering how busy they are and food was piping hot and the chips were just delicious!!! Usual Friday , quitee busy, had haddock and cod this time, quality still excellent!

Great food, everything fresh and sources on display. Gluten free everything, including bespoke fryer to stop contamination. Brilliant, not the cheapest but the best.

Had heard a lot about Brockley’s Rock and it didn’t disappoint! I had always wanted to try a battered sausage but as a lifelong veggie had never been able to - these guys truly offer something that I’ve not seen at any other chippy. Vegan fish was great (10/10 batter), homemade tartare was banging too, large chips was plenty for three and fish was perfect. Can’t recommend enough!

I had cod and chips takeaway tonight and it was nothing special. They never put tarta sauce in the bag which I paid for. I drove 5 miles which was a waste of time. I would not be going back there again.

Brockley’s Rock is definitely our favourite fish and chip shop in London. Delivery is always super easy and quick and the times we’ve had any kind of issue, they’ve always sorted really quickly over the phone. I usually get the vegan fish steaks (one is enough if you’re getting chips!) and my partner really rates the normal fish too. Would definitely recommend :)

Oh boy! I’m from the Midlands where there’s a chippy on every corner! When I moved to London I was gutted at the lack of chippys. Where am I gonna fulfill my chippy craving now I asked myself? 8 years later I discovered brockley rock. And was immediately in shock at how good the chips were. It really is the rock of the chippy industry in south east London! Hahahah rock .. get it? Would NEVER eat from here again food hadn’t even been heated up saveloys we’re stone cold. Fish and chips cooked in dirty oil . When complained was told there’s nothing they can do. Complete waist of money.

Fish n chips supper no longer a cheap option. Brockley Rock to be fair is a little pricey but serves lovely food I often buy the calamari which is wonderful.

Chips are great. Though you pay bougie gentrified London prices for them! The veggie / vegan stuff is OK but it's not exactly on par with their fishy stuff and having tried it all I now opt out and just get chips (caveat: haven't tried the halloumi salad). Having said that it's nice to find a chippy that caters for non fish eaters. My fish eating friends say the calamari is some of the best they've eaten anywhere in the world so it must be pretty darn good.

Finally got round to visiting and trying out this place. Service was good, both on the phone and on site, waiting time was spent watching the queue grow behind me. It's quite a smooth operation. On eating , the chips were fab. Overall enjoyable, and not oiley. Will have to make a 2nd trip for sure.

I telephone ordered my fish & chips and upon visiting Brickleys Rock found the staff friendly,helpful abd accurate in completing my order, via phone to their IT system and double checking at arrival recorded on paper.fish and chips cooked freshly, chips tasty,fish enjoyable and tastes as described on the online menu.Great qaulity and staff team.

Great food, friendly staff, huge portions! It's no wonder BR always has a queue outside, order by phone first for a slick, swift service with a smile. Home made tartare sauce is fantastic too!
