Too few waiters means service is always a struggle - it's the same every time we go. Forever looking round to catch eyes and nobody seems in a hurry to sort things out. Not the fault of the staff. I had a mid week supper here and was pretty disappointed. The flat iron steak was stringy, peppercorn sauce was thin and watery and the overall experience was pretty beige. Service was also poor; we waited 10 minutes for a glass of water and menu, and another 40 for our food. They simply didn't have enough staff working and our experience was compromised because of this. It's such a shame as this place could be wonderful, and exactly what Forest Hill needs, but as it stands, The Perry Vale is pretty far off the mark.

Well, have eaten here a few times and it's been pretty average stuff every time. Have no idea how people manage to rate it so highly. It's not like anything is complicated, and it's not like it's bursting with flavour, and it will set you back £15-20 for a main. With a few courses and a few drinks you'll be down about £90 and wonder why.Half price steak night is worth it, but once again if you'd paid full price for steak and chips (where the steak tastes a bit of the gas grill) then you'll be wondering why you bothered.

To start at the beginning, the cocktails are really good value and happy hour on a Friday night always helps. The atmosphere in the restaurant is always lovely, either being a nice environment for great conversation early in the evening or later the kind of buzz that you expect from a good neighborhood restaurant. To the food... When it first opened, the Perry Vale menu was full of interesting, seasonal dishes, carefully thought out to appeal to, perhaps, the more "foodie" types in the Forest Hill area. Recently however, the offering has been a little diluted. There is little choice if you're someone who wants to eat something a little different to every other "Gastro Pub" in the area. Don't get me wrong, the food is fantastic, it's well prepared and does exactly what it says on the tin, but the Perry Vale's point of difference has disappeared. There is an air of appealing to absolutely everyone about the new menu. I had the rabbit and bacon pie and could not have been happier with my choice, I am glad that they are now offering a single portion of this as I was disappointed when I was told last time that it was only for 2. My girlfriend had the chicken burger; she was a little disappointed that it wasn't a chicken breast but instead was chicken mince, but this is down to personal preference. I finished with the cherry, chocolate and almond tart which was amazing but really the only option that stuck out of the menu for me. The service is always friendly and warm at the Perry Vale and I would encourage those who book at 8pm on a Friday evening not to get frustrated when your order isn't taken within 2 minutes of sitting down. A lovely place to go and eat and spend time with friends.

I visited the Perry Vale this week. Nice meal overall but was a bit surprised by the very bony piece of baked trout that I had. The fish tasted lovely, the artichoke with it was lovely, but the bones were numerous and a bit off putting, which was a shame. I mentioned it to the waitress (adding that the food was nice) and she was apologetic. The cherry and almond dessert was absolutely delicious! Overall friendly and relaxed, but suggest that when serving fish more effort is made to remove the bones!

I don't want to make people avoid this cool little bar/restaurant as it's something the area needs in my opinion, but aside from the great welcome and cosy atmosphere it was very expensive considering its in a London suburb. It was also quiet which was a bit worrying as we went in mid evening and was hoping for a little bit of noise and chatter. We didn't try the food as again I felt it was really overpriced. I've seen been told that the menu had been revamped and is now more in line with the area so I hope to go back soon and check it out.

Service was subpar (for the price you're paying you would assume the waitress' would be more attentive). They messed up my drink for starters, not a huge deal but just showed she was not paying attention. My partners "hot mess" burger was named accordingly, it was a hot mess. My chicken burger was literally dark meat and fat placed between 2 buns and called a sandwich. Although the flavour was there and the bread was great, having to take pieces of fat out of my mouth between each bite was unappetizing (to say the least). especially when informed it was a white chicken breast.

I love this place. New menu from last time which looked pretty good. We dined on a Sunday. I'm not vegetarian but trying to cut down on meat. There was only one vegetarian option and it sounded great. So much so that 4 of the 6 people in our group ordered it. Unfortunately the main body of it (Various beans in a tomato sauce) was a bit bland and the deep fried artichoke on the side was very heavy. I did love the parmesan crisp it came with though. SO overall I wasn't so impressed but the 2 people who had the beef loved in. Our sides were also pretty great. Service was a bit crap. They accidentally spilled a couple of things on the table and we had to wait a very long time for extras like coffees after. But I don't blame them, they looked very overworked and under staffed. I'll definitely be back as I do really like the place but wasn't my favorite this visit.

Met up with some friends for dinner and initial impressions were of a nice hip place to eat. The ambience was good and the fact that they are children friendly was a big plus. There was no overwhelming loud music just a nice relaxed vibe to chat, catch-up and eat. The service was a little haphazard...we were offered drinks which we had not ordered, drink orders were delayed or only presented when asked for 2/3 times. This could be down to how busy they were but the main 'guy' kept cool and made sure everything was rectified with a smile. The food was excellent with the lamb shank and steak a favourite in our group. I had the chicken burger which was again excellent with a lovely soft, fresh bun and a homemade burger relish. The desserts were also heavenly especially the blueberry cheesecake. I would have definitely given this place a 5 star but due to the service I think a 4 is warranted. I had the plaice served with caper buree noisette and brown shrimps, along with a side of fries. The plaice was extremely well prepared - fresh and tender. The lamb looked good and there were a few more casual options on the menu as well, such as, a steak burger. The dessert were also a treat, with the amaretti and honeycomb cheesecake being our personal highlight. The service was great and the wine prices not too high. We were taken that much by the starters ... maybe a touch too complicated. The peaches in the "grilled peaches, goats cheese, baby gem, pistachios, truffle dressing" were a touch hard. The artichoke in the "confit duck & artichoke terrine" was out of place. Only our view though. We would return. Loved the staff.

Right, feed back. Chips Luke warm, and not crispy are they ever! Popped in here one night after work - fairly busy, attentive and friendly staff, great food and huge choice of wine and cocktails.Steak fantastic and desserts whilst small on choice were yummy.£50 a head for 2 courses, bottle of wine and a cocktail each which I though was great value considering the quality of food and friendliness of the place.

After a mediocre meal in East Dulwich the previous day (overpriced food and awful service) The Perry Vale was the perfect tonic. Great food, attentive service and a great atmosphere. Looking forward to the next visit!

visiting our daughter in Forest Hill ,we were invited to meet her boyfriends parents and have a meal out. Both the meal and the company were fantastic !! A good choice of starters and mains was available and Gluten free as well. Staff were attentive and very helpful and the whole experience was most enjoyable. Good value for the money.

We went on Tuesday night to celebrate a friend's success. We ordered champagne which was served promptly and professionally. We each had three courses which came out in great time & were absolutely delicious. Throughout the meal, our glasses were never empty & the wait staff were extremely attentive, friendly and knowledgable. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a great, fresh place to eat in Forest Hill!

Hands down one of the most enjoyable restaurant experiences I have ever had. The food is excellent and our waiter a breath of fresh air. Very charming, knowledgeable and genuine. This local opposite Forest Hill train station is simply a unique jewel in the area. I have walked by so many times and never popped in. I am so pleased to have finally been and seen what the hype is about. Highly recommended.PS: one of the most delicious Pavlovas I have ever had !!!

I'm afraid I don't recognise the last reviewer's experience. We had a wonderful unhurried afternoon at The Perryvale made all the more enjoyable by the friendly and efficient service. Beautiful roast chicken with a great bottle of wine from a really good wine list, we felt well looked after and had a truly relaxed lunch. The Perryvale is a great restaurant with a lovely buzzy atmosphere (especially having kicked off with a killer Tom Collins) - we will be back!

Wednesday 50% steak night. Can't argue with that. The steak is from William Rose and is perfectly cooked. Happy days.

This restaurant is held in high regard locally so it was with much anticipation that we visited. On a Wednesday there is a special steak night and on this occasion we arrived to find the restaurant not too busy. Staff were attentive when taking the order and things got off to a good start. When the starters arrived - the dishes all met or exceeded expectations. The scotch egg being the highlight of the starters. But then things started to go downhill. Two of the party of four received their main course early - a shared dish - whilst the other two diners were left waiting. However not long after being served that dish, it became apparent that our table had been given someone else's order (thus explaining why only two of four of us had been served). The erroneous dish was taken away.Things went from bad to worse on the second attempt. This time, due to carelessness or clumsiness or both, the waiter tipped a tray of fries over the table and one of the party. Accidents happen and perhaps they were new on the job but by this stage, it was starting to take the edge off the night. The steaks themselves were very good - once the kitchen eventually gets the order right, they output good food, and you would hope that the problems encountered so far, were just a blip. But no. At the end of the meal, when the bill was presented, the waitress came, took the payments (which we'd split a number of ways). But then not long after, came back to the table claiming that more funds were due. Indeed she was adamant this was the case. This was annoying as that was not so and one of the more arithmetically astute in our party had to take the waitress aside and show her that in fact there was no issue. We didn't hang around for desserts or coffee or anything like that - enough was enough. By the end of the meal, it was clear that the staff were innumerate, haplessly incompetent and generally disorganised.Good food - but never again.

We have been to this restaurant 3 times now and it is really delightful. Lively, good service and very good food, all at a reasonable price. The menu has interesting combinations of flavours and it is all cooked well. The desserts are particularly good, so it is worth leaving enough space to enjoy these. It is an ideal London restaurant - good, varied menu, relaxed seating, and about 10 metres from the railway station. The denizens of Dalston would find it worth the trip to Forest Hill.

We had dinner on a Saturday evening. It was good for a leisurely dinner with friends. A great atmosphere for chatting. The staff didn't hurry us. They were also very friendly. The food was good. The scotch egg and squid starters were particularly good. The steak main course was the stand out of the mains we had. They have special deals on some week nights - which we will try.The bar is stocked with a good selection of gins. Several are produced locally in London.

They were very accommodating and the 50% off steak is a perfect deal. Where else are you going to get QUALITY steak and fries for less than £10? Good beer selection and attentive staff. Will I go again? Been twice in less than a month!

I Was invited to go - it was dirty inside and they cheated us on the size of the chips portioned with the fish was undercooked ! Staff dishevelled kept going to an upstairs area not for customers with good looking food - yet they charge £10-£15 for a few chips and the fish are sourced from the market stalls of lewisham or next door fishmonger (?) if you want to eat in a horrible dirty café with undercooked fish and chips sitting in groundnut oil go here …….theft in a deprived area 💯

Buen café, pero es a mediados de enero y la puerta está abierta y la calefacción está apagada. Se sentó en abrigos y se fue para ir a un lugar más cálido. También la música era un poco ruidosa para tener una conversación.

Restaurant dirty and run down. Food terrible, pie undercooked underneath and over ooked on top. Pastry like leather, meat scarce and tasteless. Gravy bland and watery.
