Very disappointing roast, had the pork, no crackling as stated, 2 soggy potatoes, no Yorkshire pud. Overcooked veg. Came out quickly so must of been sat around all day, was 5.30pm on a Sunday granted. The desert had obviously been cut in half to satisfy numbers, no discount. A real shame as this used to have a great reputation for food.

Went for Sunday lunch with some friends. Great food, especially the beef brisket roast. Very tender meat with a good selection of vegetables, the home made horse radish sauce was very tasty. Great location and views. Dog friendly. Reasonable sized carpark and off the main road so very little traffic noise. Staff were friendly and helpful and the meals came out quite quickly despite it being very busy. Reasonably priced and a good selection of meal choices, although maybe a few more vegetarian options would be nice. Will definitely be coming again.

Stayed on Saturday night just gone and the room was nice and large and very relaxing. The man serving breakfast in the morning however with black curly hair had no idea what was going on. My order wasn't passed to the kitchen until 30 minutes later when he actually asked me what I wanted to order! There were other things as well and overall breakfast was a complete mess. The party on Saturday night was very good though and top local ales behind the bar.

Incredibly awful. Hard to understand how they could be so bad at everything. Surroundings and ambience - terrible. Sticky tables. Food overpriced and absolutely dreadful. Hard to understand how somewhere that used to be so good, can become so bad. Possibly the worst lunch we've had at a pub - ever! In fact my husband barely ate any of his. The lowest star I can give is one - so I guess that goes to the staff who seemed cheerfully unaware of just how bad everything was; they must have a good sense of humour.

An overnight stay was dreadful. The toilet in the en suite didn't flush properly and we reported this on arrival, we were told 'it is very old building so we must make allowances and press the lever three or four times'. It never did work properly however many times we pressed the lever. The shower didn't work at all the following morning and when we reported that we were told "oh dear, well we'll make up for it with a good breakfast'. We were already paying for breakfast! Dreadful customer service. Oh, and the food is nothing special either.

Having been previously and the food was good, booked with friends for lunch. Initially the bar staff were friendly and welcoming, however on leaving this was not quite the case. The food was poor to say the least. The quiche was soggy, the chips looked like they had been fried in old fat , the coffee was luke warm, an when this was mentioned it was reheated in the micowave. The holygog was swamped in some sauce with a spoonful of custard and was like soggy pastry - not pleasant. The only saving grace was the cheese cake. On paying for the meal the same bar staff who seved us at the beginning, asked how the meal was, and when we said it was disappointing and the chips were not nice she replied "no-one else has ever complained abouut the chips" She was then very off and leaving the establishment she was heard to shout through to to the kitchen "table 11 didnt like their meal" It was said in a very sarcastic way and we made our mind up never to go there again. We are not picky or demanding customers, and wouldn't have complained had we not been asked how we found the meal, there was no apology or concern that we hadn't enjoyed our meal - if you don't want to know if the customers enjoyed your meal then don't ask. I was very disappointed as all their blurp sells their beautiful food all local etc. etc. This certainly was not the case that day. I was not going to write a review but for the fact the same friends and I went for another meal at a local pub yesterday, and the food and the service couldnt have been more different. See review regarding The Oak at Staplow.

Came for a breakfast on a sunny Sunday morning as the outdoor seating area has always looked nice. Alarm bells started ringing immediately when I realised we were the only people at the pub. We ordered 2 full English breakfasts, 2 glasses of orange juice and a pot of coffee. Breakfasts came out within 5 minutes despite expecting them to of been cooked fresh. To my surprise the £18 full English breakfast consisted of 1 small chipolata sausage, 1 peice of tough reheated streaky bacon, 1 mushroom, 1 tomato, a dry tiny peice of black pudding, a fried egg and 4 small Slices of overcooked deep fried potato (clearly deep fried with dirty oil). This was also stone cold as was the plate it was served on. The drinks arrived after the food, the £3.75 (each!) glasses of orange juice were poor quality cheap carton juice from concentrate and the coffee was bitter and cold. The waiter also said "sorry one orange juice has got less in it, I spilled some of it while walking to the table" with no top up or fresh one offered. Then to top it off before he walked away he said for us to bring our own plates and cutlery back into the bar when we were finished (which I obviously didn't do) The only positive was the member of staff I spoke to after this debacle, he was extremely apologetic and judging by his manorisms was used to dealing with complaints, we had some money knocked off but I still feel totally robbed. Honestly one of the worst breakfasts I've ever had and shocking service from most of the staff. I would rather go for Location is nice, but that is literally all that is carrying this pub. Don't waste your time or money.

Oh dear what has happened! It used to be reliably excellent ( the homemade raised pie was a star) Today, as that pie was nowhere to be seen( despite being mentioned on the reverse side of the menu) I hopefully ordered a chicken and leek pie which arrived with a gelatinous goo( gravy?) covering it and under the unappealing chips. Disappointed.

Stayed here for 1 night after visiting recently for dinner. From the minute you walk in you feel welcome, we were warmly greeted and shown to our room which was warm and inviting with wonky floors and a door that was about 6 inches shorter than my husband. although the decor is dated its immaculately clean. the bed was comfortable, with plenty of clean towels in the bathroom. In the room there was tea and coffee as you would expect but also homemade biscuits and a fruit alcoholic drink thingy. we were told we could eat anywhere we choose and from either the restaurant or bar menu, so we choose a table next to a lovely open fire to keep up lovely and warm, as the downstairs has a few drafts and was a little cold in places. we ate from a mixture of both menus and everything was super especially the beef and pheasant burger with blue cheese in a homemade bun, it was huge. My husband enjoyed the beer brewed on site which was one of the reasons to stay. the locals all greeted is warmly and chatted to us in an easy and friendly manner. we slept really well and enjoyed the breakfast the next morning despite it being a little chaotic due to someone on the staff cutting their head open. we also enjoyed the farmers market that is held there. My only recommendation would be maybe have a basket of blankets that people could pick up just to protect them from the drafts, one of my legs was cold even though we where near the fire and a blanket over it would of made all the difference. If you want to stay in a formulaic hotel don't stay here if you want good food and beer a warm welcome and something different this is the place for you. thank you for a lovely evening away from the rat race.

Great recommendation sent us to this hotel and restaurant for lunch. Log fire - dog friendly - and warm welcome all help to make for a pleasant experience. The menu is not extensive, but for that I'm guessing everything is cooked fresh in the kitchen. Certainly the Aga roasted shoulder of pork was excellent. Full of taste and tender, but crucially still really juicy. Our meals were very well priced and good value for money. #tayloredbyus

Lovely pub but definitely overpriced. Stopped off for cosy breakfast but the menu only had meat options. The full English was £10 which we though was a bit pricey but it had a few additions that were not the usual. My hubby was hungry and it was my treat so he went for that. We asked if there was a veggie or fish option but the waitress said there wasn't any veg sausages. I asked if they could do poached eggs on toast with hollandaise and smoked salmon, which she said they could. She also asked if we would like toast, which I said yes, thinking it would be included on the plate or as part of the cost of the dish. We had a pot of tea for 2, coffee for 1 and that was it. The breakfast came and although mine and my daughters was nice, it wasn't anything special. The toast came separately in a basket with butter, jam and marmalade, which was a welcome addition. My husband's breakfast wasn't anything special either to look at, if anything a bit overcooked in places. We ate the food and my husband had another coffee before we asked for the bill. I was surprised to find that mine and my daughters breakfast (1 poached egg, a couple of spoons of hollandaise' some salmon and 1.5 slices of toast each, a knob of butter and jam) Cost £13 each. All in all the bill came to £47 for 3 people to have breakfast! I gave the waitress a couple of pounds tip because it wasn't her fault but I did feel a bit annoyed by it all. If it had been fabulous I wouldn't have minded as much. Also, beware the jam! It was Damson and still had stones. I nearly broke a tooth! Won't be going there again.

We were very disappointed with our visit to this pub. Its furniture and decor is very basic and the menu gives only limited choices and not very interesting dishes. It also looks tired. Although the staff were friendly and the portions were huge, none of the dishes were very good and we were pestered with flies at times.I imagine this establishment lacks appropriate good management. To highlight this, although we paid by card, we were not allowed to keep the details of what we had ordered, or given a proper till receipt. All the waitress was able to do was hand right a receipt on a scrap of paper, as shown in the photo I have included in this review. .

We waited and the staff were very understanding and did not insist on our ordering. However, when it became clear our friends would not be turing up we ordered. I had the ploughman's lunch and it was delicious. It had local cheeses and wonderful pickles including a pickled egg, which I love. The bread was home made and tasty. There are three beers and all three are brewed behind the pub. They are This, That and T'other. I had a pint of This, which was wonderfully fulsome with a good hop flavour. It was the ideal place for seven old friends to start their reunion.

We have been to the talbot once before and had an enjoyable meal in the garden. Really looking forward to visiting again, we drove a long way. We had booked a table for 3 - the bar took us through and seated us. As we were shown into the dining room one of the wait staff pushed passed me very abruptly with no apology. It turned out we were not the family the table was reserved for - not our fault but we could hear lots off complaining and moaning about it as if we had lied. After quite a long wait the starter arrived. Scallops and blackpudding. The black pudding was good and the scallops ok but very opaque and not caramalised in any way. We then waited 30 minutes for the main. I had the roast beef. When it arrived the cabbage was overcooked and burnt to bitterness, the vegetables were just off raw and undercooked. The roast potatoes were dried out and hard with no basting and certainly no fat anywhere near them. I wish the same could be said for the roast beef, which was 50% fat. I am not precious about fat but this hadn't been crispened in any way and of the few slices I got, 3 were pure fat. Whenwe complained the waitress took it away, reluctantly and only when we forced the issue. She returned shortly after with a similar cut and said that it turned out to be a very fatty joint and they all had the same amount of fat. My husband ordered the venison stew. It was dry and tough and he left most of it. My daughter's sausages and chips were fine and she was happy. Puddings were good except the vanilla ice cream. I don't know how to describe it, but it was ice only with no flavour and no hint of cream or milk. I can only presume it was the first serve of the icecream maker with the water used for the last rinse cycle. We were beyond complaining and just wanted to go. At no point were the waitresses friendly- for 40 minutes we had no one ask if we wanted more drinks. My husband tired to call a waitress over she just looked at him and walked off into the kitchen. We ended up going to the bar ourselves. We won't be back. What a shame as it had so much promise.

Passing by on Sunday after the Hill Climb and not knowing the area looking for a meal and wished we never came across this place. There were 6 of us and we had two chicken & leak pies which was cold with some sort of thick sauce poured over the top which could not define pastry was burnt on the top and soggy on the bottom and the new potatoes were disgusting, more like old ones served cold and uncooked. My husband had chips with his which were cold and greasy. There were two meals of sausage and chips, sausages were 2 small chippalatas barely cooked with again cold greasy chips and an over cooked fried egg. There was also two lasagne ordered which was bearable. I asked for my potatoes to be changed which then came hot new potatoes swimming in butter with a little piece of mint. We are not people who make a fuss and took the brunt of a bill for £72. It would of been nice to have been asked if everything was ok. surely the waitress could see what was left on the plates that there must have been something not right! The meals were advertised as being pricey as there were foraged produce and good quality foods used but as a retired chef, I could certainly teach them a thing or two. A good day out spoilt by this very expensive meal which was a total waste of money. Thank goodness it’s not our local.

They are in the Good Pub Guide for very good reason - well worth a visit, and if you are from outside the area why not stay a few nights! Service is very friendly and welcoming. Also dog and children friendly -a great family pub!

I booked the Talbot for a group of seven ladies. 3 coeliacs (gluten free) 1 severe nut allergy and 1 of the coeliacs is on a low Fodmap diet. That seemed to frighten a number of places I enquired at. However, the Talbot were able to accommodate us all, and we had a brillient meal with them. First class food and just lovely staff.

I have visited and stayed at The Talbot on many occasions and have never been disappointed. This latest visit over the Bank Holiday remains well up to standard.

Just called by on an afternoon drive out and were pleasantly surprised to find this lovely old inn. We just wanted a drink so we tried the Drinking Chocolate - excellent and a half pint of Wassail, a warm spicy cider - a must if you ejoy that type of drink. Food menu looks enticing so will be calling by again sometime.

First impressions were fantastic, a beautiful old pub, with great outside space. Sadly, the interior felt a little neglected and sad, more village hall than country pub. Beer was good, however the food was disappointing. Tempted by the on-site bakery we opted for ploughman’s and a sausage sandwich. Ploughman’s looked lovely, ham and cheese tasty, however the bread dry and lacking in flavour, and chutneys watery and flavourless. The sausage sandwich was no better, again very dry bread, undercooked onions and lacking in sausage. Staff pleasant although obviously not interested in any feedback regarding the food hence the review. The lasting impression was of the filthy fish tank on the bar, we overheard a customer commenting on this, and was asked whether he was offering to clean it - we won’t be back.

Enjoyed a nice tasty lunch of homemade vegetable quiche and lasagna in this quirky pub/ hotel. It was quiet when we visited as it was 2pm on a Wednesday so did not get a true sense of the place, although there were two members of staff (we believe ) sitting nearby having lunch and reading Harry Potter aloud to each other which was a little disconcerting !

Stayed at the Talbot in November 2018. It`s a real old fashioned country pub with a great atmosphere. The room we stayed in was big and very well furnished, also very clean.

A nicely nestled Inn serving interesting food which is a delight. Too many pubs have to stick to 'pub favourites' to cater for uninspired diners. Were ably greeted by a friendly strawberry blonde 'bar person' who hailed from a Croation Isle. Good beer; This, That and The Other.

Good beer from their own brewery , I’m a ‘t’other’ fan! Good food and friendly service - loved the roaring fire and the relaxed atmosphere. Next to the river Teme, this pub is a great option for lunch after a good walk or dinner anytime!

Expensive meal; simply not worth it. Chaotic organisation. Food not hot enough. As previous reviewers have said - promises much; delivers little.

We booked only a couple of days in advance as it seemed to be the only option to get a large table locally at short notice - never a good sign that there is so much availability and indeed it was nowhere near full on what should have been a busy night

We stayed over for one night as we were walking the Worcestershire Way. We had a great stay. The room was basic but very comfortable and we had everything we needed for an excellent overnight stay. Every member of staff we met was friendly and efficient and we enjoyed a hearty meal in the evening. Hubby had the homemade lasagne and I had the chicken pie which came with a variety of fresh vegetables grown in the garden. Breakfast the following morning was also good with a variety of fresh berries and plums and cereals on offer as well as a great cooked breakfast. Thanks to all of the team.

We called here for dinner and initially went to the bar. On looking at the menus, we quickly decided to order from the bar menu because the restaurant looked to be very pricy. The food arrived without too much delay, and was excellent, well-cooked and tasty. The service was efficient and friendly. The ambience, however, lacked something so, for some unexplainable reason, we didn't fully enjoy our meal.

Large country pub just off the A44 and by the River Teme with extensive grounds and car parking. Brews its own ales, though only one (Blonde) to my taste. Very good service, albeit not on a particularly busy lunchtime and food perfectly pleasant, but quote pricey for the area. I'd intended to have a cooked lunch until I saw the prices. Instead I settled for a sandwich which was fine, but just that, two rounds of bread with a filling, plus an unwanted portion of coleslaw for £5. No crisps or chips to add value and justify the price. I'd return for a drink, but not for food.

Their online - admittedly sample menu - sounds fantastic with rare treats such as pike quenelles, rabbit and pork terrine, pressed spleen, jugged deer, 72 hour sous vide blade of beef, pork cassoulet etc. A real tempter. The reality is that it is a very ordinary pub menu with dinner offering just three starters - celery soup, mackerel fillet and onion tart and three mains, cod, beef stroganoff and, a 70' throwback, mixed grill.

The Pub is cosy and inviting in its appearance. The menu was limited but interesting choice except it was very over priced in my opinion . The drinks were expensive to . The staff were friendly and helpful . I doubt I would eat there by choice again . You could get some of the same for less elsewhere. We did not stay the night we just ate here it was a gathering of a Worcestershire Group

The pub itself is quaint and cosy and inviting on a winter evening. There is an interesting menu choice offering some variety. It is overpriced and made an expensive night out. There drinks were expensive also.

Lovely old pub serving home brewed traditional beers and fayre. The menu was fairly extensive and you could choose from the bar menu or restaurant. For a Saturday night it wasn't overly busy, and had a lovely atmosphere, the staff were friendly, efficient, and timed there appearances well, at last somewhere with enough confidence in there food not to send someone out to ask "is everything alright?" All six of us enjoyed a hearty meal with mains varying from £14 - £25, and agreed we'd go back again.

This restaurant had come highly recommended and a look at the menu online had our taste buds well and truly tempted. With delights such as pigs head, pressed spleen and jugged deer listed, we were looking forward to trying something new. One of our party is more conservative in their eating habits and we were reassured over the phone that we could order from the bar menu as well as the one in the restaurant.

We had lunch whilst touring around the Herefs/Worcs border. Good pub fare, nice wine according to the boss, home brewed beer, This, That and T'other. I had T'other which was the lowest abv, perfect for lunch. TheTalbot is a lovely large traditional pub situated in a beautiful part of the world, not far from Shelsley Walsh and close the the river Teme in the Teme valley. looking forward to going there again!

Pretty setting although not quite on the river. Pleasant staff, local ales, clean loos, lots of tables. However, some grubby old seats in bar and the food prices are surprisingly high. The fish and chips (£16) were soaked in oil, accompanied by less than tender peas. A pity because the fish itself tasted sweet and fresh and the chips were made from real potatoes, but almost inedible because of the oil.

We stumbled across the Friday night live music by accident a couple of weeks ago, a trio of local artists were performing the most beautiful acoustic music - the place was packed with a wonderful atmosphere! We returned tonight to see Tyler Massey, what a fantastic talent: acoustic, Americana, folk, very good. It's great to see this place alive with music! Good food, great beers - the music will be great in the summer

Called on our way to local national trust house, fairly empty on this sunday morning and went to bar to order 2 small breakfasts, quite pricy at £6 each plus coffee but ingredients were ok, sausage very good but bacon a bit streaky for my liking and very dark in colour.
