An amazing Sunday lunch at this lovely local pub. Visited with friends and 3 of us chose the roast beef. It is the best beef I've eaten. My friend, who is a vegetarian, had the Sunday roast but substituted the meat for cauliflower cheese...which she loved. I would highly recommend this lovely place for a warm and friendly Sunday lunch.

We haven't been for a few years, had a light lunch which was seriously delicious and prompt to table, right price and hospitality was friendly and efficient. Totally will be back again after having a conversation with the new owner and hearing how they both chef and personally invest in turning this pub into something fantastic. Yes the furniture etc could be updated but it all costs and they need to get on their feet to do it. People like this need more support and for all they're giving back, I'm sure they'll get it. We will be back and will be recommending to all and everyone. Great job!

Pub supposed to open at 12. No-one in the pub and waited for service, then manager appeared and surprised we were inside, telling us the door was only ajar for him. We were told he will be with us in a moment and waited again to order food. Finally told we won't be able to order food yet as the fryers were not switched on. Rude and arrogant.

Appalling staff and even worse owner! A guy tries to order some food at the bar and the barman has no idea who's next. The guy tell him he's next, staff member argues with him then refuses to do serve him or do anything. Manager appears, sides with staff. Great but staff member is in the wrong! THEN the manager berates the guy refusing to serve him and telling him to leave. I felt awkward enough, you should be apologising to him! And before you say the guy was out of line, no, he wasn't you and your staff were. And maybe tell your staff to wipe the bar top once in a while! I won't ever be returning!

I don't usually feel the need to write many reviews; however, I feel compelled to do so on this occasion. As a group of friends, we have been to the Talbot in Kempsey many times and enjoyed great evenings, having a drink or two and enjoying the food on a few occasions. When the Manager changed some months ago, we were looking forward to it as the previous management team just didn’t cut it. The drinks service is good now that the bar team has settled, and new staff members are in place, some of whom worked there some time ago. It was good to see some organization back and not poorly poured drinks with staff in panic mode. A few weeks back, we dropped in around 7:20 pm and asked if we could still eat. We were told that the kitchen closed at 8:00 pm, so there was no hurry. We ordered our drinks and sat at the table looking at the menu. We were then approached by what I can describe as a panic stricken chef, who I now know is the Manager, Martin. He explained that we needed to order soon as he wanted to close the kitchen since he had had a busy day. That may have been the case, but when we arrived, there were no more than ten customers in the pub. Had it not been for our drinks, I would have walked out. The food did arrive and was okay. There was nothing to write home about, but we weren’t expecting a gourmet dinner. This week, Wednesday, May 15th, I phoned and spoke to a very helpful team member and booked a table for 7:45 pm for four people, having been told that the kitchen closed at 8:00 pm. We were on the way to the Talbot at Kempsey when I received a phone call to ask if I was a member of the curry club; I said no, but I had booked a table, and we were nearly there. After a few seconds, I was told that the Manager wanted to speak to me; he gave his name as Martin. He then told me he had closed the kitchen at 7:30 pm and couldn’t serve us. I asked why the booking had been taken, and he did not respond. I said we would go somewhere else that wants our business, and we did and enjoyed the drink and food. I am sorry to say that this will be the last time I attempt to eat at the Talbot. On two occasions, we have been made to feel like a nuisance and that we are not welcome. If that is how the pub is going to be run, then there will be more changes coming up. Hospitality is about good food and drink served with a smile. The bar staff can manage it, but the Manager needs to be trained.

Four, could of been more. Upon entry I was greeted by two barrels set in the wall Hob goblin and bank's amber upon arrival at the bar I was informed they had no ales at all but about 5 different types of lager. I purposely drove out of my way just to have an ale in this nice country pub so I was somewhat disappointed. We sat in the bar area which only had a handful of people in it but the music was too loud to be able to talk across the table. On the subject of loud music, no thought is given to people with a hearing disability which is aggravated by loud noises, I do have a problem which is another reason I didn't stay long. If you can't talk across a table without leaning forward the music is to loud. I was happy to see it's very dog friendly even little treats for them by the door plus a nice ode to dogs on the wall. For that we be back.

Simple tasty, pub classics at reasonable prices all served with a smile. Nice atmosphere, great to see the dining area steadily fill up as we were there. I met my old friend now living at the Lawns residential home (just up the road) for lunch at the Talbot on the recommendation of the staff at the unit . who are regular customers . I'm also disabled so car parking was perfect , A member of the care team walked down with my friend who was in his electric wheelchair .. This small moment of independence , a trip out for lunch at the pub is such boost to my old mate who , after a stroke Is dependent on the carers .. when we arrived we were treated by the landlord with the perfect balance of consideration and courtesy, offering us tables on the flat level with ample space entirely suited to our limited mobility. asking about hand pull beers, he recommended the Hobgoblin, Ruby, which , in the midlands i had never seen on pump before. A good pint and well kept. Recommended but the regulars we went for the fish and chips .Fresh fish, really thin crispy batter cooked to perfection (by the landlords wife he swears,) that would not shame the gastropub sector was just what was required. Perfect lunch for a man with only one working arm, I cut it up kirk has a fork, , end of problem ...

After having a lovely roast at the kings head we sat in their garden having a drink. Really unprofessionally the manager came over from the star inn and asked us to join them because ‘the drinks are cheaper’ Maybe but the live music is awful and your pub is empty - we now know why. So rude. Really unprofessional and an awful attitude to have towards another local business Absolutely no business coming from our large group who would have happily spent money behind the bar.

We always eat at the Grovewood when we stay at the spa as, besides being so convenient, it is such a lovely experience. We have been several times over the last few years, but this was a particularly nice meal. We also had breakfast here the next morning. I apologise that I can't remember the staff's names but they were all really lovely, one was very funny, and they really made our stay.
