Good service an food, good value for money, can’t fault any of this, but what’s with the outside seating area. Clearly had been swept into piles of fagbuts etc an then just left?! Why not pick it up? Looked awful, that said food was good.

We visited today for Sunday lunch. The pub is under new management and everyone was very friendly and keen to please. The roast beef was cooked pink, just how we like it. All the vegetables were cooked just right and were delicious. Although this was a generous helping and we were quite full, I managed to squeeze in a delicious apple crumble and custard. The crumble was tasty and crunchy and there was plenty of apple. As the weather was cool for the time of year, there was a welcoming fire in the pub. For a warmer day, there is a large sun terrace overlooking the river.

While visiting my parents in Upton Upon Severn from Australia we had a family get together Lunch Time meal at The Kings Head in celebrating my parents Blue Sapphire 65th wedding anniversary on Wednesday 30/03/22 & dad's 92nd birthday the same day. Excellent friendly service from the staff with excellent menu choice, food well cooked & good presentation, menu prices were very reasonable & we all managed to share the special anniversary cake made elsewhere. Queen Elizabeth didn't forget the occasion with her special card. A big thankyou to the Staff at The Kings Head.

We had stopped by here late one sunny, March afternoon to have a quick tipple. I tried the draft Tattler cloudy cider which was great. It was a bit too chilly to sit outside and marvel the river so we went indoors and parked ourselves at a large round table. Service was at the bar as it common in British pubs. We may have stayed for food but it was only late afternoon and we weren't that hungry. I paid a short visit to the restrooms before laving. All good. Oh, and I can confirm good access to those using a wheelchair.

Called in for a spot of lunch whilst visiting the Sunshine Festival, we were told that the food would take 45 minutes which we were prepared to wait. When the food was eventually served it wasn't quite what we were expecting, advertised as sausages and chips in a basket the portions were more suited for a child, 1 sausage and a handful of chips in a plastic basket for £8.95!! We made a complaint at the bar and the manager was supposed to come and see us but this did not materialise, so we left learning from our mistake. Staffing issues appeared apparent (apart from the young girl serving at the tables and on the front line for customer service) but surely arrangements should have been made prior to a 3 day music festival on your doorstep.

Popped in for lunch today as the pub looked lovely. The service was ok - not spectacular but fine (hence the 2/5 rating - would have been 1/5 if it wasn’t for the service), however the food was a real disappointment. We ordered the curry and the burger and after quite a long wait, they appeared. The curry tasted like a standard cheap curry form the jar, nowhere near what we expected from a restaurant. The burger bun was burnt, the bacon was hardly cooked, there was no cheese (even though it was advertised on the menu) and the burger meat was poor quality. We even found a small piece of metal scouting pad on the bacon! The food is absolutely not worth the money you pay!We won’t be hurrying back here.

Husband and I were in the area for a walk last Sunday, decided to stop and have a drink and sandwich somewhere, this pub looked promising. I was pretty desperate to spend a penny first so found the facitllities. While in there I heard another person enter, on coming out of my cubicle and washing my hands I notice said person hasn’t bothered to close their door to. Doesn’t bother me but it’s a public place so slightly odd. Small bathroom so only one sink, I’ve just finished washing my hands and I’m using the drier when this woman appears and leaves the bathroom imeadiately without washing her hands! There was room at the sink so no excuse. Absolutely disgusting I thought, some people. The most shocking thing about this story is when I went back to the bar to meet my husband the woman was the barmaid!! Needless to say we left immediately! I was honestly mortified by the hygiene standards of the staff. What a disappointment.

There were 12 of us including my 4 year old granddaughter , I am a chef and have been for nearly 40 yeers , therefore ( staff of the kings head) I understand the pressure we had put you and the chef under by walking in as a large party without booking BUT you know and I know that you should be ashamed of yourselves for serving food!!! Man in front of me had trouble getting a large glass of red wine as the opened bottles had barely enough for a large glass. Eventually he got one, but it was his third choice! I fared no better with a bottle of dry white. Chardonnay? No they didn't have one. Sauvignon Blanc? No they didn't have one. Pinot Grigio? Yes the young man disappeared into the back came out with two plates of food, disappeared again and eventually came back with an unchilled bottle of Pinot Grigio. We left without eating and we weren't the only ones. At least four people got fed up of waiting and walked out while I was at the bar. Ordered two ploughmans meals. When served the plate was over loaded with cheese, the salad appeared to have been made well in advance as it was limp and dry with no dressing on whatsoever. The granary bread was stale, and inedible. We made a complaint and asked for the bread to be replaced with fresh, which they supposedly did, but it was the same as previous. We asked for the meal to be replaced or our money back. They took the ploughman meals away but did not replace it with anything. They offered us 20% back off our meal and two drinks on the house. The chef who came to speak to us was condescending and kept calling us "my love". When I pointed out to him that I was not his love he then decided to introduce himself. The manager refused to come and see us and left the young member of staff having to deal with some very unhappy customers. When we spoke to a local person after the event they said they wouldn't use this place to eat in and the pub opposite was much better. Sadly because of our experiences it is highly unlikely we will visit Upton on Severn again in the same capacity as yesterday. The staff were rude, the place was unfriendly and the only thing it had going for it was it is by the river which on a sunny day would be very pleasant to,sit and while away an hour or two, drinking a glass of wine. Overall a terrible experience.

Very poor experience on a Saturday evening. With no meal arriving after an hour wait and an unapologetic manager, displaying no regard for customer service, we will not be returning to this pub. We did actually indeed receive our meals after we had been told that our order had been lost and the chef was refusing to cook it, they magically appeared and were quite pleasant. The manager then had the cheek to ask us to pay for the meal after she had given us a refund when we did not have our meals and stormed off when we told her we were not going to pay due to the terrible service. DO NOT GO TO THIS PUB IF YOU EXPECT QUALITY SERVICE.

Beautiful, cosy and well maintained decor inside. The girls serving us were pleasant, but there was an aire of "it's Tuesday night, so it will be quiet" vibe about the place. No kids menu, so we had to order my four year old a £10.95 sausage & mash dish, as the staff said that all dishes were portioned up already and they couldn't offer a smaller version. This gets me thinking whether their food is freshly prepared and made, or pre portioned in packages, but that is just pure speculation, so hard to say.For my meal I did order a pie, which is supplied by a company called PieMinister as advertised on the menu, so not home-made.The pie was quite nice, but the mashed potato tasted quite weak, like a just add water type of mash potato and the French beans were over cooked and tasteless. As you can imagine with my son, he ate just one of the three sausages and just a bit of the mash and a few peas. A lot of money to pay for a meal for a child.Highly unlikely to visit the village again as just passing through, but in what looked like quite a competitive village for business with 5 pubs all on the same corner, if I was to come again I would probably give one of the others a try.

Set just beside the river with outside seating overlooking the river. Over the years the Kings Head has been up and down. Four of us went at lunch and had great meals with excellent service. I don't know if they responded to a previous tripadvisor complaint, but the toilets were now very smart and spotlessly clean. As well as lots of standard pub fare there is a great pie menu. The portions are very large. The ingredients (e.g. home cooked ham) were top notch. The cooking was spot-on. Massive ham, egg, chips and mushy peas was just £8-50. There were ten meals ordered while we waited a few minutes to give our order, so we settled down for a long wait. Our meals appeared in just 20 mins - very impressive. Just one warning is that if you like desserts the sweets menu is very minimal.

Visited the King's Head on a lovely sunny day and sat outside for lunch. I have to say that, prior to this visit, the best ploughman's I have had was in a pub in Cornwall in the early 1980's. That was easily surpassed on this occasion. There was a selection of items to choose from and we chose cheddar cheese and a duck/orange pate. These came served with mixed leaves, tomatoes, cucumber, onions, chutney, half an apple, two of the largest pickled onions I have seen and slices of toasted ciabatta bread. It was poetry on a plate!! That might sound extreme but it took me over 30 years to find.!! Highly recommended. HAVE THE PLOUGHMANS!! You won't regret it!

A great Pie selection, we both had the Chicken & Tarragon - which was delicious with mash & gravy - best I've tasted in a long time.Great range of cask ales and wines to choose from as well. The site is also building its own brewery so need to re-visit when that opens.... Great pub, great food and great location..

Didn't get order right, staff didn't seem to know what they were doing. Food average, salad uninteresting but some pies were nice and chips were very nice.

Terrible! No atmosphere, no customer service, took 45 mins for food to arrive and got all the meals wrong! Never again!

Kings Head has just re-opened after a refurbishment and wow what a pleasant surprise. A fantastic pie menu to compliment the main menu and just had to try the Chicken & Tarragon wi creamy mash - and what a meal, one of the best I've ever tasted - my colleague thought the same. Great selection of real ales and wine, which we tried and they're planning to start their own brewery here shortly.Well worth a visit and surely has to be one of the best places to eat/drink in the area, I'll certainly be back!!

Recently visited as a party of 6 on a Saturday evening to sample the new pie menu. We had a very warm welcome by the manager (I presumed). Drinks sorted and order for mains taken. Then we waited. It took just under an hour from arrival to getting our mains. All except one enjoyed their pies (one had very hard, virtually uncuttable pastry). I had the Cajun chicken from the grill menu - huge plateful, lovely chips but the Cajun was very, very spicy so be warned. The reason for my hesitation is that the time to deliver our meals was poor. There were only two other tables in that evening. I also heard a conversation between one of these tables & the waitress regarding an incorrect bottle of wine served which resulted in the waitress swearing quite loudly on leaving the table - shocking behaviour.None of us fancied a dessert after the slow service & the above behaviour & to be honest we only left a very small tip which goes against our normal practice but reflects our overall experience. So, all in all, not convinced & not sure if we will bother again.

Whether sitting outside overlooking the River Severn, or sitting in the restaurant, I highly recommend eating here The Desperate Dan homemade burgers were absolutely delicious and very filling ( how anyone can eat a Very Desperate Dan Burger is beyond me - it must be enormous!)I can't wait to come back and try all the wonderful pies (see photo of the Pie Menu), salads and other meals in offer

Came into this beautiful pub next to the glorious river severn on Saturday afternoon and decided to challenge the 'desperate dan' burger. Great service, great food, friendly staff! I'll defiantly be returning to the kings head again soon for some top notch food

Popped in for a lunch and ordered the Mini Desperate Dan homemade quarter pounder.....the best burger I've had in years. The burger was cooked perfectly, the salad garnish was a meal in itself and the chips were home cooked and delish! I would highly recommend a visit. Friendly staff and we finished with a coffee sitting outside on the terrace overlooking the river. Can't wait to go again.

No white wine, flat coke, burnt/greasy tagliatelli. Beef gravy on cheese pie, ordered chips instead of mash but received mash. Not a good experience.

Good atmosphere and well cooked food. Service with a smile. Near the river so you can have a drink outside weather permitting

We found this place following an attending an event just outside town, the location is wonderful right on the banks of the river and ideal for an evening summers drink unsurprisingly it was busy outside however inside was deserted this didn't bother us as we were hungry and looking to eat anyway - although we were early (about 6pm) on first impressions the place seemed run by students and very relaxed, the team were friendly and approachable and although the menu at first looked limited the food was very good and served very quickly they even made us cheesy garlic bread that wasn't on the menu, over all a good find and we would visit again if were are in the area.

Had lunch today at riverside pub. Nice spot overlooking the river Severn and ate outside on the terrace. We had chile con carne and a burger meal. The meals were excellent and good value and the barman and waitress were friendly and helpful. A lovely meal on a sunny day, perfect.
