Just been to The Nelson for a few drinks with family. We all really enjoyed Brads homemade burgers. It was a bit of a wait because it was very busy & Brad was kept busy barbecuing, nice to see it! Only reason not a 5 could have done with 2 chefs! Enjoyed it there all the same!

A welcoming atmosphere with very friendly owners. Drinks and crisps available and also very tasty fresh baguettes. Regular fun evening events arranged. Nice that there are games such as pool table, darts and a skittle alley. Friendly local pub with three real ales normally available, all kept at the proper temperature, not ice-cold as in so many pubs which concentrate on lager. Two varieties of cider that and two of lager are also offered. The usual range of pub games are available and the place is clearly popular with locals. Bar snacks, but no main meals (as of July 2018), though the new owners say they have plans to expand into food. HIghly recommended as a country pub excursion.

Have always enjoyed a visit to the Nelson when visiting my friend in Suckley such a shame to find that there is now no food served at all it used to be a regular eating place with so many lunch clubs etc visiting. We visited here when we were staying close by. We went on a Saturday night, we phoned ahead as we wanted to check that we could bring our dog and they said we could if we ate in the bar. When we arrived it was empty. Three of us had the steak pie and it was really good, apparently they get them from a local butcher, they were full with meat. Another of our group had the steak and he thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff were all very friendly and as we had the bar to ourselves we played pool and Jenga. A few people turned up and went in the lounge it is a lovely pub with good pub grub and friendly staff and it is a shame for them that it wasn't busier. Maybe it gets busier in the summer.

its been a few years since my last review here but the ownership has since changed but it remains as good under the new management as before. ..luckily the new owner hasn't made any sweeping changes so the quality of food and service remains as before which is high and consistent. The fish and chips may sound expensive but that piece of loin of cod, boneless would probably cost as much to buy fresh as cooked here...and served up. A few minor changes to the menu make it a little more friendly for younger eaters, burgers and cajun chicken burgers but it fully deserves its reputation as a family friendly eating and drinking hole. Children welcome but no play area but free wifi...

Not an Inn you may come across as it is tucked away just a few miles off the Worcester to Hereford road. Well worth the detour to visit and enjoy their real ales and their excellent food. We came across this place whilst driving back through the country lanes and just happened to look up and see the pub sign. We visited it last night to meet up and found a warm welcome in a place that boasts good food and beer, plenty of space in a really homely feeling environment and also two skittles alleys and a pool table. So something for everyone. The ales were excellent and when the food arrived it was beautifully presented and divine to eat. The home cooked chips are a real speciality and well worth choosing from their varied menu. Preserving a part of England's heritage extremely well. The Nelson continues to provide good quality solid fare - sometimes with a little twist and some nice finished touches - at great prices served up with an attentive smile. The wine is terrific value and Jim always has a really good selection of local and interesting beers on tap. Your food can vary from a traditional pie or fish and chips to the Thai stir fry I had - with lashings of king prawns and fresh vegetables. Good choice of indulgent desserts. the portions generally are "generous" to say the least so go there hungry !! Can't fault it really for a community country pub - from the drinks to the snacks and the larger meals.

We revisited this hidden gem on a gloomy bank holiday for Sunday lunch. The food and service was exemplary and my partner was delighted with the range of real ales on offer. The chef had cooked the roast beef to perfection (and cut it thickly), the roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings were delicious and a great variety of vegetables were served at the ideal texture for me (i.e. not soft or rock hard!). I don't know what he does to his gravy but it is superb. There is a very enticing range of desserts which we have sampled on previous visits but on this occasion we indulged in some of the luxurious ice creams available - scrumptious! I am afraid that the outcome from out visit was that we returned the next day for more delights ! A rainy bank holiday Monday dawned and we enjoyed the Chilli and the chicken melts followed by.....more ice cream! The staff are welcoming and unobtrusively attentive and happy to accommodate your wishes. The service we received was faultless and we will undoubtedly be drawn back to this haven in days to come.

We have been to the Nelson many times over the years and have enjoyed the generous nosh and booze. But only now am I moved to put in a review. Were delighted to get a few hours off and head up on Valentine's Night for a set menu which looked pretty appetising and great value. and that's what it's all about. The relatively new chef had put together a really tasty home cooked menu - all served up with veg and crushed new potatoes. It was great value since it included a bottle of wine - and not just the bog std house wine but a choice. The portion sizes have always been generous but it felt like the focus on Saturday night was very much the quality of the food. Service from Jim is as friendly as ever - and the staff are all eager to ensure that everyone enjoys their night at the Nelson. Well done all.

The Nelson is our closest pub and being the parents of young children we don't "escape" very often. It was a treat to go out for a meal and a few drinks recently. We quickly established that the staff were all new and after enquiring we found out that the pub had been recently taken over. The staff were excellent; extremely friendly, courteous and helpful making the atmosphere most pleasant. We ordered our food and sat back and relaxed. When the food arrived, I was extremely disappointed as being a Vegetarian there is always a limited choice but I don't mind that. The problem was that the food was awful; the lasagna was literally green slop and inedible. To be fair, the staff responded really well and took the meal off the bill. I would really like to return but I would like the chef to be aware that serving food of that standard is not acceptable. The menu needs to be a bit more exciting for veggies too. I hope that this is addressed as I do wish to return and I hope that the new owners succeed in their venture.

His tiramasui is out of this world and should be tried! the waiting staff are extremely well turned out and polite always helpful and attentive.Jim is a friendly humorous man and given the bravery that it must have taken to take on an established country pub such as the Nelson gives credence to the type of gentleman he is.You should visit this pub it has a great atmosphere friendly locals, plus a great pool table, (we have a pool league and would always welcome new players both guys and girls!!!) a great dart board and a fab duke box.... Come along and give it a go, I promise you will come again.Just a short note to the negative and quite frankly viscous review writers.... Having just visited someone nearby, I popped in the Nelson Inn intending just to have a quick snack before my drive home. Instead I chose something more substantial from the wide menu and I was very pleased I did!The pint of Worcestershire Way(?) ale I had was fine, but was far surpassed by my food choice - an excellent rump steak, served with a generous pot of peppercorn sauce, delicious crispy/fluffy chips and very pleasant onion rings. My visit was at the end of what seemed to have been a fairly quiet weekday lunchtime, so I can't comment on the atmosphere, although it is a perfectly comfortable country pub.Based on my experience, I would say the one or two teething problems referred to elsewhere have been resolved and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Nelson Inn - or to go back there if/when I'm in the area again.

I couldn't decide on which of the desserts I wanted so asked for "A Surprise", which indeed I did get; the Chef had plated up 3 different sweets as a taster plate. The ambience is lovely with nice stoned walls, wood and an old well in the restaurant room.We understood that the pub is under new ownership since few days, and this is noticeable from the service and the lack of professionalism of the staff, but they need probably just time to learn. The food instead was fantastic: a great steak perfectly cooked and seasoned, a delicious home made burger, and some surprising beef lasagna. The dessert was a tiramisu so delicious and tasty. The chef came to greet us and we discovered that is Italian ! What a surprise for a British pub....but at least all the food is homemade and not frozen as it is in many pubs. For sure we will call again at this hidden gem of the Worcestershire countryside.

Just eaten at the Nelson after new owners have taken over, quite excited as heard an Italian chef was cooking. Words fail me in describing the food we have just been given! However here goes!, Garlic mushrooms with fresh bread? 2 slices of home pride bread and a ramakim of garlic with mushrooms! (think it was £5.95) should of been 95p! Even that was too much!. Stay clear of the fresh burgers! Not good!! And the pork dish on offer, you must go and experience it as again words really do fail me! Spent just over £40, never in all my years has a meal been so Dissapointing! Shocking! As for the pub, no music, no atmosphere, no hope! Good luck new owners you're going to need it!

I visited this pub in spite of Trip Advisor's headlining the only, and oldest, negative review. In the UK country pubs are closing in droves - there is just not enough business. This pub was cosy and warm, welcoming, and with decent food at reasonable prices.I will go again soon; and so should you.

I have visited the Nelson on many occasions with friends and family and have never been disappointed the fish and steaks are especially good. We will be celebrating my Birthday next month as we have done for the past six years and I am sure we will have a fantastic evening as always.

I used to come here just before Christmas each year and it never disappointed. It is brilliantly located in the picturesque and quiet countryside to the north of Malvern.Although it is perhaps slightly smaller than other pubs I have been to, there is still considerable seating area in both the bar (which has a pool table) and restaurant area. A nice feature to check out when your inside the pub is being able to look down through a sealed glass window into an almost bottomless well that falls directly beneath the building. There is an excellent selection of food available which has always been cooked to a very good standard. The portion sizes that you recieve with each meal also makes it good value for money. A favourite of mine has been the Lamb steaks. The puddings are also worth trying if you have room afterwards. There has only been a small number of staff the times I have been there but their credit they have always provided friendly and efficient service. There is a good variety of beverages available including some real ales, lagers and soft drinks. Is well worth the drive to come and visit this pub.

we travel 8 miles to visit the nelson every week/2 weeks. The reason we do this is because the food is always consistent and good. They always have a variety of different real ales to sample and the staff are very welcoming and helpful

Enjoyed a lovely meal at this very pretty country pub. Food is very good quality and prices reasonable. Owner and staff very welcoming and this is definitely somewhere we will be returning too. Probably not a good idea on a bad winter day as road to get there very narrow and bendy but in the summer it's a beautiful drive.

Eaten here redularly - the food is always excellent and super value for money - the staff are always friendly and the service is spot on!The meat is all sourced from a local butcher, the eggs are free range from their own chickens (and they are some of the most delicious eggs I have ever tasted!), and there are usually homemade desserts on the menu too. They have regular sources of entertainment, including Quiz Nights, Skittles, Live Music, so look out for those too!Definitely well worth a drive, especially as it only takes 10 minutes from Malvern and 15 from Worcester!

I thought i would write this review because i had an absolutely lovely day out with the famliy, all the staff were very attentive and very polite. We had a young child who enjoyed the homemade kids lasagne. I always have a steak when i eat out and its very hard to find good quality meat with fresh produce, the 120z rump i had was around £12 and was worth every penny, was succulent and the pepper sauce was obviously done to order as it was creamy and delicous, with fresh vegetables and trimings, best steak i have had for a very long time! My wife had a poached cod in a mushroom and white wine sauce, this was also fantasic, the fish was fresh and prepaed beatifuly by the kitchen. the food was traditional and really enjoyable. I also enjoyed the selection of real ales they had i had a pale ale was perfect! definatley go again.

its a regular venue for Friday night fish and chips... which compared to the local chippy is expensive...but then its real fresh fish properly cooked and with good quality freshly cooked chips...different experience altogether.....decor beginning to look a bit tired like most British pubs these days but everything clean....bar service a bit erratic at times but the beer choice is good and well served and wine served nice and cold....watch out for occasional busy night...skittles or some such and a sudden influx of guests....get your order in good time....we eat in the "lounge bar" never ventured into the other bar which sounds a bit more robust!

We went to The Nelson Inn on a Thursday lunch time at 2pm, which as any rural landlord will probably tell you is 'end of session time'. we were however pleased to be greeted by a friendly chap and food was not a problem. He also kindly pointed out the specials board which saved us a bit on the bill. My wife ordered the Liver, bacon and onions and I opted for the home battered fish. The food arrived within a reasonable time and we were both very happy, our only criticism was the fine beans had not been trimmed and my batter was a little on the slim side as in not much on the fish, however it was not out of a freezer ! For dessert we both wanted the homemade cheesecake but alas they had sold out so we went with the chocolate fudge cake which was fine. All in all we had a pleasant meal in a good old fashioned pub, better than we expected and we will eat there again if we are in the area.

Good service, nice atmosphere. Great location - many good routes for cycling or circular walks around in the local area. Fantastic food, their "Combi Starter" is out of this world! They host a pub quiz on the 2nd Wednesday of each month and often have live music every now and then. The Nelson has a skittles alley which can be rented out for occasions.

Do not eat at The Nelson Inn, Suckley if you like underdone steak, inattentive staff, overpriced and meagre portions, and a condascending attitude from the landlord. Was asked how I wished my steak to be cooked and the landlord wrote it down! When it arrived it was not what I ordered so sent it back. Meanwhile I am sitting waiting whilst the rest of the family ate theirs. Meal returned with none of the sauce I had ordered originally and had to ask for more at the bar in light of the waitress being totally in her own world. Came to pay the bill and was asked was everything all right. I advised the landlord of the issues and was given a concession on the onion rings order! However, was still charged for the overpriced paltry amount of second sauce which I had to order as none arrived back with the re-cooked steak. Not a pleasant experience!
