Staying in the local area we decided to meet up with other family members for an evening meal and catch-up. Knowing this pub does food from Wednesday through to Sunday lunchtime decided this would be a good place to visit. We booked and arrived just on opening time and was met with a very welcoming greeting by the bar person. Once we placed our order, in a very short space of time the starter course arrived, and on completion of this and table cleared, again the main meals arrived well presented and hot. The pricing was well within most budgets and with the specials board there is a good variety to choose from concidering the size of the village. Definitely on future visits this is a place on the list for food.

This is a lovely pub with great food and a lovely choice in food. From a menu where you can have a two course meal for six pounds to a more extensive menu and also basket meals there is something for everyone plus a gluten free menu. The owner is lovely and whenever we visit from Yorkshire she always makes us feel very welcome. We are aware they want to retire to the East Coast so make sure you get in there before they eventually leave

Staff were nice one minute and rude the next. Food was acceptable for the price but the staff were cold and strange.. only nice to locals and had a bad attitude. They seemed annoyed that we were ordering at 2pm telling us they close at 3. If you don’t like working with people then find another job!!

If you want to experience a proper Village Pub that won't break the Bank, then visit the Talaton Inn at the center of Talaton Village in rural East Devon. It was a quick and easy 6 mile drive over from Honiton. Our Lunch visit enjoyed a Real Fire in the hearth, good very reasonably priced Pub Food and Drinks, a Warm and Friendly atmosphere, and a very Welcoming Landlady, despite it being our first visit. The Talaton Inn is at the heart of the Village and is very easy to find, it's opposite the Talaton Community Shop. It was a wet day so the good sized and Surfaced Car-Park was appreciated. An amazing value Two-course Set Lunch was available for £6, and is clearly popular with the older customers. Our Mains of Lasagna and Filled Yorkshire Pudding were served hot and very tasty. Our Apple Pie Deserts cost only £4.95 each for generous portions. Despite a ROBOTS Club Lunch Function also taking place, the Service was brisk and attentive. The Draught Stowford Press Cider was excellent, just as well as there wasn't a Draught Bitter available on the day we visited. As Devon Village Life goes Talaton is very fortunate as it possesses a Church, a Shop, a good Pub and a Parish Hall. Note the Inn is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. The pub also has a large Skittle Alley/Function Room The prices here are so reasonable that regular visits are possible. We enjoyed our inexpensive Lunch so much that we intend to book for their Christmas Menu in December, which offers three amazing value Courses for £16.50.

The person answering the phone was rude, unhelpful and was enough to put us going there ever!! He referred to me as “mate” and said he had loads of cancellations for today, despite this he continued to say we would have to sit separately and at the bar!! With 4 children, this was not even an acceptable suggestion! With an attitude like his, I am surprised anyone goes there!

After reading mixed reviews, as it's local to us, thought that we would give this a try. It was well worth it! lovely menu with wide range of very reasonably priced food. Attentive land lady who gave us space to make our minds up and immediately spotted when we were ready to order. Would highly recommend the chicken caesar salad for us salad freaks! Also the hunter's chicken looked great too. Definitely coming back again!

Wow, what an unnecessary welcome by the landlady. We were in the village to attend a function at the nearby village hall. It was a lovely sunny evening, and what could be nicer, a cool drink before we head to the hall. There were six of us, all gasping for refreshment. We parked (one vehicle I hasten to add) and off we bimble into this attractive 15th Century establishment. We were meant by 'Have you booked', this command was barked, we were taken aback, as a few of the party were already surveying the real ales. 'No we haven't booked, do you have to? We are just wanting a drink or two!' 'Where are you going?' 'Well, we are off to enjoy an evening in the village hall, but before we go, we'd like a round of drinks, is that OK?' 'But you've parked in our car park!' Can I point out at this stage, that the car park is huge!! Plus there is a sign, which states, For patrons only. So six fully grown adults of maturing years are indeed patrons, and we are wanting to be served drinks. Now we did get served drinks, in fact we had two rounds of drinks. However, the whinging and the grumbling was unnecessary. Notably, as on more than one occasion, we were told, 'it's Friday, and we get busy'. The time was now after 7pm, and indeed the place was filling up, but, the car park was not. We all understand that, yes it's mighty frustrating that folk park in the car park, and stroll off, not stepping over the threshold of said establishment, however, we were spending money in the public house! We weren't the only ones that this lady was rude to, in fact she was heard to say 'but you aren't local?' 'No, we are not, we live in the next village!' Now, shall we excuse this lady, after all it had been a hot day? In my opinion no, we should not. Had she said, 'would you mind moving your vehicle before you head off for your evening' , than fair enough, but this was not the case. Hardly a great start to a lovely summer's evening, not a great advert for this lovely Inn, with its charming beams and delicious aromas of freshly prepared meals. Will any of us return? Well, to be honest, I am not sure, the key word, I have always used, is hospitality, not hostility.

A lovely local pub that comes with a big warm welcome, shame the food didn't come through so well. Chips seemed to have spent a very long time swimming in oil and the peas somewhat lacking colour and taste. Seemed a real shame, I know pubs have experienced difficult times and please take note, the choice on the menu was amazing, service was excellent but please look at the food and this would be amazing.

Quiet pub in pretty Devon village. Plenty of parking and they have a real fire in the winter although away from the fire or when it's not lit it can be a bit chilly in there - sit by the heater! There's a restaurant and a separate traditional bar area frequented by locals and they have skittles too. Plenty of parking. Welcoming staff. Nice selection of wines & beers. Lots of choices on the menu and they have a talented chef, Jan, although I'm told he's not always the one on cooking duty. I've eaten here several times and find that the food is either excellent or OK, depending on who is cooking, and the prices are very reasonable. If you hit a good day and get a very good lunch for £5 you won't be complaining! The inn comes into its own on the theme nights. The last one was Polish food and it was very, very good. We've had Spanish and Indian which were also top class, and Italian and Mexican which were almost as good. And all for £10 for three courses!

Visited today with three friends. We eat out every Wednesday and like to try different places. Could not believe that anyone offers two course for £5. What a bargain!!Today the choice was between steak and kidney pudding with new potatoes and veg or stilton and broccoli quiche with salad and new potatoes. We picked different options but everything was brilliant value for money. The sweet was a choice between chocolate gateau and fruit cake with custard or cream. I was awkward and asked for ice cream but this was supplied willingly. Soft drinks were reasonable at 50p each and coffee (delicious) was £1.60. We were all delighted and will be returning. Local pubs like this deserve local support and we will be recommending them. A la carte menu too was varied and very reasonably priced. It was also great to hear about the landlady's dogs who have won prizes in local agility/show classes.. Keep up the good work.!!

Came here with an organised Lunch Club. When we saw the prices on the specials board we expected small portions and average food, how wrong we were. For £5 per head (yes you read it right) we had a main and pudding. Most chose a steak pie which was excellent and not small at all. Everyone said how delicious it was to the staff when we left. Puddings were nice. Apart from buying drinks not sure how they do it for that amount. If I lived in the village it would not be cost affective to cook at home! I see by the other reviews they are not complementary, I can only go on my experience. They do need to sort out the main heating of the Pub, but it was warm enough with the appliances they put out.

sadly our experience of this pub was not good. The food was really sub standard. I wish someone had warned me how bad it was. The vegetarian choice was appalling. Stuffed pepper provencale...it was not. I got a bowl of new potatoes swimming in disgusting gravy with a red pepper stuffed with what tasted like the worst packet stuffing I had ever eaten. The seasonal veg was frozen cabbage and cauliflower and even these were overcooked. Really .Nearly £50 for 4 of us to eat . We were all disappointed. I just hope they had a temporary chef and this wasn't a reflection of what they provide because I can't imagine people returning. It was so dated. There was no offer of refund when my husband said it was 'not good'. If I had been offered an alternative I wouldn't have taken it as it was bad all round.

It was also a busy night with a skittle game going on. They managed to put together several tables for us and took our drinks order without any delay. The food came out piping hot, portions were of a good size and reasonably priced. Burger and chips was just over £6 , lasagna just over £8 and the steak was £10 upwards. Puddings were about £3-£4 with yummy sticky toffee pudding on the menu. The service was excellent and the waitress/ bar lady was very friendly. Hopefully the locals weren't too disgusted with our rather loud behavior but the staff didn't seem to mind us. If I am passing by in the future, I will definitely stop in again.

The menu showed a 2 course meal as £10 and 3 courses for £12.50. Given the experience of other pubs we thought this would probably be cut down portions, but no, they were full size portions, all home cooked, and piping hot.Absolutely no complaints about the food or the service. Will definitely stop in again one evening. Only small bit of constructive criticism would be to have some low level background music perhaps, particularly on such quiet evenings just to add a little atmosphere.

Great venue for lunch, always busy, good food at reasonable prices. Until today, prices have risen, the place was half empty, the food still good but not exceptional so why the price hike? My breaded plaice with chips, peas and tartare sauce was £16.99! It was nice enough, not outstanding and available elsewhere in Sidmouth for a lot less. If they want more profit and less customers I think this approach will work, we will think twice before returning as there are many other places to eat locally that offer better value for similar food.
