Went our for lunch with my husband and daughter, the first meal out since the end of lockdown. Hand sanitiser was provided at the front door, and we felt welcomed and very comfortable. The pub has tastefully been refurbed , with a lovely colour palette. There is a limited menu, but each of us had the pizza, ( it was 12” ). We placed our order by text and did not have to wait long for the food to arrive. The food was lovely. Service was great and in accordance with social distancing guidelines

We arrived very late on Friday evening after travelling down for a week's holiday. We were told that the kitchen was closed, it was 8.40pm, but then the chef kindly came out to tell us he would reopen the kitchen especially for us. We were starving so very grateful, the food was great simple pub food . My mum had the roast chicken, brother had Gammon, Egg and chips, sister-in-law had chicken tikka and everyone was happy with their food. I had the mushroom stroganoff which was ok, a little bit bland but for £32.99 for four meals we were more than happy. The willingness to reopen the kitchen really impressed us, a lovely friendly bunch.

Why do employers let staff have their phones on them when working? Are you all thick ? Staff are employed in pubs on an hourly rate . 60 mins work = usually min. Rate , let's say £8 if they're over 21 . They use their phone 15 mins out of every hour answering texts etc and so they're employer is paying them £10 for doing 45 mins work . Work out the maths !! This is typical of the appalling way pubs are run today About time it was sorted - ban phones when working Chris

We paid for our meal through Groupon £8.99 for carvery and a pudding for 2 people - a real bargain. We sort of expected a village pub but this was actually part of Exmouth - parking was very difficult. It really is a local with 5 dart boards and 2 pool tables - lots of swearing from the regulars and a strange smell. The staff were all very nice and helpful but we just didn't fancy the carvery - the meat and potatoes were ok but the vegetables were not that great. The puddings were reasonable - all served with ice cream or pouring cream. I suppose you get what you pay for at the end of the day - but although this was a real bargain - it is not a bargain if you don't eat it

Lovely sun trap of a garden, friendly staff and fantastic food, especially the carvery and the rotisserie chicken. Despite there being so many great eateries in the area, this is really a hidden gem, don't know how they can be making a profit at the prices they charge.

Had a meal on Mothers day and the meat was very thick just one big slice. My son had the roast beef and it looked more like a steak. Tasted fine but not everyone likes their meat in great big lumps, maybe a decent carving knife would help. Also the prices have gone up quite a lot not cheap and cheerful anymore. Would think twice about going again as the menu hasn't changed to reflect the prices.

One of our local pubs that we have had some good meals in the past, but they have gone downhill. Last time we went we had undercooked chicken served, but as they recently refurbished we had heard that all had improved, so we went for a treat on Mother's Day. Firstly the price was not as advertised & quite a bit dearer. Went to get our carvery which is served in a very small corner & the meat is not displayed. It is wrapped in foil & they then slice off what you want. First serving to a relative was of some undercooked, bloody pork, so this was returned & bad customer service as told it was cooked thoroughly, but the proof could clearly be seen, So I decided to try the beef instead & helped myself in a very crowded corner to the potatoes & veg. Also no shelf to put plate down & awkward holding a heavy plate & dodging other people being served. It was all a disaster! Beef couldn't even get a knife through it, parsnips didn't look roasted at all & raw inside, roast spuds had thick chewy skins on them & all other veg not cooked enough. No taste to any of it, so left it all. Complained, but got no feed back! Another thing, is that the new wooden tables we sat at were so rough, it kept catching my clothes & pretty dangerous for Children too.

We visited for a carvery lunch on the strength of a Groupon voucher. What a pleasant surprise it was. To be fair, from the outside,it isnt inspiring but open the door and you are greeted with a long bar with lots of draught beer pumps along side cider and lager and three seating areas; the bar; the carvery and the restaurant, The bar lady was lovely and cheerful. We grabbed a beer each and were shown to a spacious table close to the carvery. There was turkey and/or gammon, stuffing, yorkshires and eight vegetables including broccoli and cauliflower cheese, roasted parsnips, sprouts, green beans, swede, carrots and sweetcorn alongside beautiful crisp roast potatoes and piping hot gravy. There were four desserts to choose from and I had cheesecake with ice cream and my husband had Black forest gateaux and ice cream. My cheesecake was just amazing - caramel topped and delicious. The gateaux was also moist and delicious. Great value for money.

I booked a table using a Groupon voucher which entitled us to a two course meal for 2 people. The pub is on a main road opposite a school and as there is only on-street parking available, finding a place to park can take some time. The main attraction for us was that the pub was advertised as a carvery. In fact from their website I was looking forward to a good meal. However, a glance at the very small and dried out specimens for what I presumed were gammon, turkey and beef, although the girl behind the bar thought one was pork, persuaded us that we would be better off with the usual bar menu. . Unfortunately, this proved not better. You can't mess up ham, eggs and chips said my companion! I opted for the scampi with a starter of garlic bread. All the food was served on cold plates which cooled the food rapidly. The scampi was bites rather than wholetailed which I expected from the price. The fried egg had been cooked a dirty pan the ham was inedible - dry, cold and fatty. I waited in vain for the garlic bread. We gave up and left not willing to assault our taste buds on dessert.

Booked a table here this weekend, 7 of us in total (all family). Table was nice and clean and laid out ready for us. There's a nice family atmosphere in the pub. A little noisy but the rugby was on so it can be excused. The little play area out the back is lovely and perfect for the 2 children who were with us. I must add that the garden and play area were well kept.4 of us had the carvery (gammon, Turkey, pork) which was lovely, all piping hot and not overcooked or dry like some can be! A child's sausage and chips - exactly as you expect sausage and chips to be. The chicken wrap looked really good!Decent prices and friendly staff. There was a little mix up with the puddings (cream instead of ice cream, and cream instead of custard) but that was quickly rectified when we spoke to the waitress. All in all I would definitely return and recommend to friends.

This is a rather scruffy looking pub with bench tables that are somewhat the worse for wear. Hwever there is a pleasant view of the garden from the small restaurant area and the food is surprisingly good for the low prices. Toilets are clean and the barmaid managed to balance running the bar and serving food without an excessive wait for anyone. You order your food at the bar. My tseak and ale pie had a loose pastry top over the steak, ale and mushroom. One piec of steal too cgewy to be eaten, more gristle than meat but in a good sized portion one piece can be forgiven, especially when the pastry is light. Served with chunky chips and peas. My companions cheese and broccoli bake was said to be tasty but was served with only the potato that had topped the bake and garlic bread. It looked more like a starter than a mian course but was priced at the same amount as my more generous meal. The carvery vegetables looked reasonable and a vegetarian might be well advised to order the carvery and just skip the meat. I'm afraid my companion also drew the short straw on dessert for while mine was pleasant the apple cake seemed to contain very little apple. A generous portion, moist enough and not over sweetened but lacking flavour - and apple. Good selection of beer, short wine list.If you are looking for an nexpensive but tasty lunch this is a good choice.

My husband and I had a Groupon voucher for this restaurant. The staff are very friendly and the meal was ok. Typical pub menu, very reasonable, but not special. The atmosphere was good as there was a lot going on darts and snooker wise. The pub itself is very tired and could do with a make over. Not sure that we would go back.

This pub is a little way out of Exmouth town but is easily accessable by Stagecoach buses from both Exmouth town centre and Exeter. The pub has a good selection of mostly local real ales as well as a great value daily carvery and a full menu of mouthwatering pub food. Very family friendly, it has a pleasant garden at the rear that is reached by a bridge across a small river - the garden also includes some small animals, rabbits etc for children to pet and play with. From the outside it looks like an unprepossessing end of terrace town pub so all of this is a real surprise. It appears to be popular with locals and even on our visit on a weekday lunchtime it soon filled up with locals and by 1:30pm the carvery was all eaten up! The only disappointment for me was that as soon as the barman wasn't serving people he was checking his mobile phone. Whilst this is not a major issue I just felt it looked a bit unprofessional. Overall this is a nice pub and restaurant and is worth going out of your way to visit.

Loved it. Super friendly staff and amazing for children. Beer garden has rabbits in it! And a play area with slide and old rides for children. Food is quite good and very cheap - only the coffee was disappointing. They also have a baby changing area.

I pop in from time to time and today (Sunday) I thought I'd have a roast. Good value for money and two meats to choose from. The pub has been through many hands since living here but it has to be said that Josh and his team of staff have certainly given a new fresh look to the place and a great beer Garden also. Happy days

Welcoming pub with good selection of real ales, when first looking at the menu the prices seem to good to be true - but the food was home made as promised and very tasty. Portions are not large but still great value. Nice beer garden at the rear with children's play area - but there is also a section for over 18's only, what a great idea!!

Although the Country House is only a stones throw from our house we had not been there much because it has had a difficult few years with a succession of licencees . Josh and his family team have totally and tastefully refurbished and turned the pub around . We have tried the carvery which was excellent and went for an anniversary pint and a meal from the a la carte menu tonight .The atmosphere is great and the food really nice and great value . There is a large beer garden with a brook running through it which is a nice place to be in the good weather .

"One of the nicer places we've dined at for a while- location is a bit out of the way but each of the dishes was full of flavour, and for the standard was good value for money"

Great venue for lunch, always busy, good food at reasonable prices. Until today, prices have risen, the place was half empty, the food still good but not exceptional so why the price hike? My breaded plaice with chips, peas and tartare sauce was £16.99! It was nice enough, not outstanding and available elsewhere in Sidmouth for a lot less. If they want more profit and less customers I think this approach will work, we will think twice before returning as there are many other places to eat locally that offer better value for similar food.
